Ren Dover

Ren Dover is the reincarnated author at the center of The Author's POV. Awakening inside the body of an obscure Lock Academy student, he initially tries to survive by exploiting his foreknowledge while leaving the story's intended hero, Kevin Voss, on course to defeat the Demon King. The people around him soon cease to feel like characters, however, and every intervention binds him more tightly to their lives. Ren consequently grows from a secretive low-ranked student into Caissa's founder, the architect of an interspecies alliance, Jezebeth's principal opponent, and finally the Overseer responsible for the universe's Records.

Biography

Lock Academy and the first deviations

Before becoming Ren, he is an unsuccessful author whose resentment of inherited talent comes from losing his parents, scholarship, health, and creative purpose despite sustained effort. Death places him in the sixteen-year-old body of Ren Dover, a G-ranked background student in his own unfinished novel. His first priority is neither heroism nor authorship but avoiding the world's fatal ending. He therefore takes the Seed of Limit, knowing it was meant to benefit Kevin, and accepts Grandmaster Keiki's punishing inheritance trial. These choices remove his rank cap and give him a path to technical strength, but they also make his survival depend on changing the very plot he intends to preserve. (Chapters 1–8)

At the Lock, Ren deliberately cultivates an image of mediocrity. He hides the five-star Keiki Style behind apparently incompetent repetitions, allows classmates and instructors to dismiss him, and uses his knowledge of Alfonse Thibaut's VR exercise to survive without attracting the protagonist group. The arrival of the Time Codex, initially titled The Luminescent Swordsman, makes his position more dangerous: it shows Kevin's perspective ten minutes ahead and permits mana-costly changes, but even a small edit can injure Kevin. Ren treats the Codex as both insurance and a warning that his supposedly fictional world has consequences he cannot perfectly predict. (Chapters 9–20)

His first independent operations establish the pattern behind Caissa. Ren recruits Smallsnake through the black market, invests using future market knowledge, equips himself with a Storage Bracelet, and raids Red Desolation for money and practical experience. When the black market is attacked, he helps its defenders and receives Drifting Steps as a reward, while Monarch's Indifference lets him suppress fear and moral hesitation. The skill makes otherwise impossible decisions executable, but it does not erase their aftermath: once deactivated, the pain and guilt return, revealing that Ren's most efficient combat state is also a threat to his humanity. That threat becomes concrete around Elijah Turner's after-party and the Hollberg massacre. Ren approaches Melissa Hall to secure affordable potions and later develops the Magic Cards concept with her, but his efforts to remain merely transactional fail when Elijah targets Amanda Stern. Ren intervenes, kills Elijah, and becomes Amanda's unidentified rescuer. At Hollberg, he again chooses intervention over distance: he fights beside Kevin, protects classmates, and uses Monarch's Indifference to kill. His calculated humiliation of Jin Horton is meant to force Jin to mature for the future war, yet the extremity of the method exposes how easily Ren can treat a person as a piece on his board. By the time he returns to his family and forms Caissa, he no longer believes that passively babysitting the novel's protagonists will be enough. (Chapters 40–160)

Immorra, public exposure, and Monolith captivity

Ren's preparation for Immorra joins personal advancement to organization building. He recruits Smallsnake, Ava Leafz, Ryan Polive, Leopold Ray, and other specialists because the coming conflict requires intelligence, logistics, taming, technology, and field leadership rather than a single strong swordsman. He also guides Kevin through the hidden dungeon where Kevin obtains Levisha Style, accepting that strengthening the intended hero remains essential even as Ren develops his own forces. Access to Manticore's accelerated training and Donna Longbern's psyon-control lessons raises his manuals to greater mastery, while his bargain with Angelica von Droix—aid in exchange for helping her reach Viscount—turns a dangerous captive demon into an indispensable, if distrustful, partner. (Chapters 107–164)

On Immorra, Ren uses Angelica's telepathy to communicate across species and allies himself with the orc commander Silug. He and Kevin sabotage the demon occupiers, free prisoners, and exploit Ren's knowledge of the planet's doomed future. Ren's motive is strategic—an orc legion could matter against the Demon King—but the operation also forces him to accept responsibility for people his original outline had consigned to destruction. Recruiting Silug and linking his growth to Angelica changes both the balance of the rebellion and Ren's relationship with her: their arrangement remains coercive in origin, yet repeated risks and fulfilled bargains give it a foundation beyond simple captivity. (Chapters 165–186)

Back in the human domain, concealment becomes unsustainable. Investigators expose Ren's E+ strength and limitless talent, influential families notice him, and the magic-card proposal makes public reputation commercially useful. He responds by controlling the disclosure rather than fleeing it: he bargains at banquets, uses Caissa's resources, and participates in the inter-academy tournament. His concern for Nola during the tournament shows the other side of that planning. The protective hairpin he gives her is both a shield and a tracker, allowing him to find her when she is endangered. Protecting family has become a genuine obligation, not merely a role inherited with Ren Dover's body. (Chapters 187–249)

The tournament crisis pushes Ren into a forced D-rank breakthrough, but his attempt to alter the coming disaster ends in abduction. At Facility 876, the Monolith strips him of ordinary control, suppresses his mana, tortures him, and turns accelerated training into another instrument of captivity. Ren survives by swallowing a bracelet before capture, reading his handlers, and waiting until their routines create an opening. His escape through stolen Monolith Rings demonstrates the same patience and manipulation he once used at school, now hardened by prolonged abuse. When he returns at D+ and then reaches C-, he is stronger but emotionally damaged; nevertheless, he reconnects with his family and Caissa and proceeds with the Henlour expedition instead of allowing captivity to define the limits of his world. Henlour, Issanor, and the interspecies tournament

In the dwarven domain, Ren's first major decision is to win Waylan Roshfield's attention through concern for Emma rather than disclose all his secrets. Waylan and Douglas become sponsors who protect Ren's contract with Angelica, while Ren's Caissa team proves itself defending a tower against demon waves. When engineer Jomnuk is kidnapped despite Ren's protection, Ren does not treat the failure as an isolated loss. He builds a counter-operation around the Mask of Dolos, assumes the duergar identity Karl Kallum, delays Inferno's beacon work, and coordinates portals, dwarven factions, and alliance forces. The plan helps end the war, but it also confirms that Ren's instinct under pressure is to accept personal risk while distributing only the information his allies need to perform their assigned roles. (Chapters 301–365)

Henlour's rewards advance both Ren and his group. He chooses Eyes of Chronos, trains toward B rank, and receives Malvil Ironhawk's sealed sword, whose successive releases will demand higher ranks. The journey to Issanor should reunite him with the people left behind at the Lock, but Aaron Rhinestone—one of his Monolith abusers—turns reunion into a trauma trigger. Ren nearly loses control on seeing him. Waylan and Douglas prevent an immediate killing, while Amanda and the others learn that Ren's coldness is not simple composure. He responds in character: instead of abandoning revenge, he turns Aaron's tracking chip and public position into tools for a later plan. (Chapters 366–402)

During the interspecies tournament, Ren couples technological and political leverage with direct combat. He tests Melissa's magic-card work, bargains with Han Yufei for the Martial Body manual, and uses Ryan's copied chip to track Aaron. Ren ultimately arranges Aaron's death through the tournament conflict and uses the 876 identity to make that death serve a wider bargain with Octavious. He then tells Kevin that their world follows a novel and admits that he has manipulated people to keep the future viable. The confession does not absolve those choices; it marks the point where Ren stops pretending that secrecy has protected Kevin from the moral cost of Ren's authorship. (Chapters 403–445)

Ren defeats Kevin in the tournament after revealing both his identity and the fourth Keiki movement, then uses Aaron's body and his own public value to negotiate freedom from the worst accusations. The victory is followed by an immediate personal cost. Breaking his mana contract with Angelica damages his soul, and only the Seed of Limit prevents the usual loss of rank; Natasha Stern's intervention keeps the rupture from killing him. Returning to Earth, Ren reunites with Nola and his parents beneath a sky altered by a vast mana increase. The boy who once tried to remain an anonymous extra now returns as a publicly consequential fighter whose private bargains affect the Union, the Monolith, and several races. (Chapters 424–466)

Return to the Lock and the demon-world campaigns

Ren's return to ordinary life is brief. He takes Nola to a concert and enters the Lock under cover, but his investigation of Professor Thomas becomes another Monolith trap and leads to the publication of Ren's identity. Donna, Monica Jeffrey, Douglas, and Octavious turn the resulting press conference into a controlled reckoning. Ren accepts that he cannot restore anonymity; instead, he uses the hearing to preserve his ability to act. At A- rank he opens the first seal on Malvil's sword and grasps the Keiki Style's fifth movement, Space Splitter. Its first use tears through his own body, teaching him that conceptual understanding is not the same as physical capacity and forcing him to throttle the technique until his rank catches up. (Chapters 467–504)

The frozen White Death dungeon makes the divided state of Ren's mind impossible to ignore. During an awakening/error episode, the other Ren takes control and employs Ren's techniques, cards, and pain tolerance with a severity the conscious Ren cannot fully govern. That consciousness is not a convenient combat mode: it has separate intent, hidden knowledge, and access to power Ren does not understand. Ren enters the demon arena as the White Reaper partly because he needs strength and leverage outside human institutions. There he climbs the Duke bracket, rescues Edward Stern, reaches A+ using SilverStar's resources, and cooperates uneasily with the other self to kill Duke Azenoch and escape with Edward and Liam. (Chapters 489–537)

The rescue enables a rare period of warmth. Edward reunites with Natasha and Amanda, and Ren's family welcomes them; Ren and Amanda finally acknowledge their attraction during a date. That intimacy does not cure his damaged soul or missing memories. Ren acquires Memory Manipulation and tests it on Kevin and Liam, discovering a tool that can inspect, alter, or restore minds only when the target's defenses are down and at enormous mana cost. He also begins Han Yufei's Body Hardening, reaching Bronze Body. These gains reflect Ren's recurring contradiction: he seeks power to protect relationships, but several of his most effective powers—memory alteration, emotional suppression, and the other self—can violate or hollow those same relationships. Jezebeth's interference with the next portal mission scatters Ren's linked groups across a demon world. Ren practices Body Hardening under battlefield conditions, regroups with Kevin and Jin, rescues Smallsnake and Liam, and combines Angelica's help with his fifth movement to kill a weakened Duke while the others target a Mana Compressor. Kevin's encounter with the Time Codex then reveals Ren's erased regressions: the other self is a time remnant formed from the accumulated suffering, calculations, and failed loops that Kevin's system forced Ren to endure. This revelation recasts Ren's numbness and compulsive planning as both personal choices and injuries inherited from versions of himself he cannot remember. (Chapters 558–600)

Jezebeth intercepts the escape and offers Ren survival if he kills Kevin. Ren refuses, and Smallsnake's apparent death during the retreat transforms the conflict from an abstract duty into personal hatred. Over the next two years he reaches S+ and places eighteenth in the hero ranking, yet considers the growth inadequate because Jezebeth's curse and the other self leave him only two years. His grief makes him harsher and less stable, but it also clarifies his aim: he will no longer fight merely because his unfinished novel says the Demon King must fall. He intends to kill both Jezebeth and the consciousness that treated Smallsnake's death as useful pressure. (Chapters 601–620)

Immorra's alliance and the Demon Domain

Ren returns to Immorra because it is defensible, politically independent, and already bound to him through Silug. He publicly provokes the orc leader, reveals his role in Silug's earlier rise, and wins submission while preparing a coalition of humans, orcs, elves, and dwarves. The alliance fortifies the city with Jomnuk and Randur's help and survives the first demon offensives. Ren then breaks through to SS- and fights Duke Suriol. Martial Body temporarily raises him to SS, while the incomplete sixth Keiki movement exceeds what his newly advanced body can safely control. Victory frees Silug's contract and secures the treasury, but it also convinces Ren that ordinary human advancement will not close the remaining gap with Jezebeth. (Chapters 621–660)

That conclusion drives his most dangerous self-modification. Against Angelica's warning, Ren begins incorporating demonic blood, hoping to bypass bloodline suppression and gain Demon Transformation. The process magnifies emotion, grows black scales and wings, destabilizes sanity, and temporarily drops him from SS- to S. He accepts those costs because Kevin's death, the other self's designs, and Jezebeth's superiority leave no safe path. On Melandoir, Ren, Amanda, Jin, and Melissa bargain with Duchess Priscilla, exploit conflict among the ruling houses, and obtain World Nectar. The Nectar stabilizes the hybrid body without undoing its nature; Ren emerges with a power source that can help against demons but remains vulnerable to stronger demonic bloodlines. (Chapters 661–722)

Kevin then completes his long synchronization and transfers his remaining power into Ren before dying. The loss sends Ren into a constructed world without demons, where he finds an apparently peaceful society governed through Protector coercion. He frees the condemned sword grandmasters, trains under them, and learns that Keiki, Gravar, and Levisha are related approaches to a deeper whole. Waylan is revealed as the Protector of Diligence, and Kevin's arrangement lets Ren assimilate inherited law access and break through to SSS-. Ren rejects Waylan's claim that the Protectors' imposed balance excuses their sacrifices; when their interests prove irreconcilable, the other self kills Waylan and takes the law-fragment. (Chapters 723–771)

Armed with new strength and a personal sword art combining the three grandmasters' principles, Ren shifts from defense to conquest. His coalition destroys mana compressors, captures demon cities, defeats Princes, and moves Immorra's armies through portals. Ren's goal is not territory for its own sake but a refuge capable of surviving the Third Cataclysm. He therefore proposes moving Earth's population to Immorra, accepts the political resentment this creates, and remains on Earth with selected forces when the migration begins. His leadership becomes openly utilitarian, yet unlike the Protectors' hidden order, it asks allied peoples to survive together and exposes Ren himself to the battle that makes the refuge necessary. (Chapters 772–800)

The Seven Pillars and the new Overseer

When the Seven Pillars descend, Ren and his other self divide their shared existence between two impossible tasks: one body confronts Jezebeth, while the Dark Servant projection enters the pillar worlds. Because Dark Servant is a mana body sustained by the other self, damage, expenditure, and death in the pillars directly burden the battle outside. Ren crosses Envy, Wrath, Sloth, Pride, Greed, Gluttony, and Lust, defeating their masters and absorbing their laws. The accumulated power grows faster than his body can accommodate, destabilizes the projection, and weakens the link to the consciousness holding Jezebeth back. (Chapters 804–825)

The trials attack more than his stamina. Ronald Dover's death breaks Ren's restraint because protecting his father was one of the responsibilities by which he had learned to accept the Dover family as his own. Other allies are trapped in separate pillar conflicts, while Smallsnake—believed dead—appears as Jezebeth's strategist. Ren continues absorbing laws despite bodily collapse because each fragment is required for the final confrontation. His secrecy prompts Emma to challenge the way he decides for everyone, a criticism the narrative has built since Hollberg: Ren's willingness to carry the burden himself repeatedly denies his allies the right to understand what they are risking. (Chapters 806–847)

After the pillars, Ren confronts the other self over the deaths, manipulations, and pressure that shaped him. The time remnant reveals that the order of losses and trials was deliberate preparation, but it is also the repository of Ren's discarded lives and suffering rather than an unrelated invader. Ren chooses neither to submit to it nor simply erase it. They exchange memories and merge, leaving one Ren who carries both the present self's attachments and the regressed self's experience. The fusion gives coherence to abilities and motives that had previously competed for the same body, while forcing Ren to accept responsibility for the plans made in his name. (Chapters 848–853)

In the last battle, Jezebeth suppresses Ren's demonic bloodline and renders familiar skills such as Eyes of Chronos, The One, Memory Manipulation, Dark Servant, and Monarch's Indifference ineffective. Ren answers with accumulated laws, the sixth movement, the fused self's experience, and the help of people he once tried to protect from the truth. Amanda's arrow creates the final opening, allowing Ren to reach the Akashic Records. He accepts the book and becomes Overseer, gaining the authority to restore lives and repair the universe rather than repeat the Protectors' coercive balance. (Chapters 854–858)

The epilogues frame that authority through ordinary relationships. Ren restores survivors including Smallsnake, offers Waylan a human life instead of compulsory Protector service, and participates in rebuilding. He and Amanda reunite and form a family; years later, he reads The Luminescent Swordsman to their children Eli and Lyla and promises the happiest ending. The scene does not erase the deaths and violations that led there. It establishes the choice Ren finally makes with power over the Records: to serve without reducing living people to predetermined roles in somebody else's story. (Chapters 859–862; Epilogues 1–4)

Appearance and personality

Ren begins in a sixteen-year-old human body whose black hair, ordinary public rank, and deliberately unimpressive conduct help him disappear among the Lock's first-years. He commonly ties back or cuts his hair and repeatedly uses hoods, masks, altered faces, and false identities when operating as Caeruleum, the White Reaper, or Karl Kallum. Captivity and later campaigns make his bearing more controlled and intimidating; by the final conflict, his renewed fused form is identified by black hair and blue eyes. (Chapters 1–10, 301–303, 376, 475, 854)

The demonic-blood adaptation creates the clearest physical transformation. Black veins and scales spread across his face and arms, horns begin to form, and later manifestations include wings. The form grants affinity with demonic energy and contracts, but its visual changes accompany emotional amplification and the danger of corruption. Hollow gray eyes, by contrast, signal Monarch's Indifference or the other self's control: the absence of visible emotion is a tactical condition, not Ren's natural temperament. Ren's baseline personality mixes caution, self-deprecating humor, stubborn discipline, and a manipulator's preference for asymmetric information. He often jokes with Smallsnake, Kevin, Amanda, and his family, yet withholds plans until allies can no longer change them. That habit begins as a survival method for a supposedly irrelevant extra and becomes a leadership flaw as his decisions affect armies and worlds. He is unusually willing to be hated if the result protects someone, but the same conviction lets him rationalize coercion, memory alteration, deception, and the sacrifice of another person's agency. (Chapters 21–43, 157–186, 403–423, 661–684)

His strongest emotional trait is protectiveness. Ren's attachment to Nola and the Dover parents turns an inherited family into his family; Amanda's trust gives him a future he wants rather than one he merely survives; Kevin and Smallsnake become friends whose deaths or apparent deaths dismantle his composure. Grief, guilt, affection, and anger repeatedly pierce his controlled facade, demonstrating why Monarch's Indifference is both useful and dangerous. Ren does not lack emotion—he fears that his methods and accumulated regressions will leave him unable to feel it. (Chapters 76–95, 239–254, 538–557, 601–609, 724–727, 798–811)

Powers and abilities

Mana, the Seed of Limit, and swordsmanship

Like other humans, Ren can view a status window that divides physical and mental attributes into the setting's letter ranks. The Seed of Limit permanently removes his body's talent cap and accelerates training, but it does not grant skill, understanding, or effortless power. Ren still needs martial manuals, instruction, resources, and prolonged practice. The altered constitution also helps him resist extreme substances and later prevents the ordinary rank loss caused by damage to a talent limiter when his mana contract breaks. It does not make him immune to backlash: forced breakthroughs, Space Splitter, demonic blood, and Akashic laws all injure him when his body cannot contain the result. (Chapters 3–4, 27, 85, 191–193, 446–464, 489–526)

His formal profession rises from Swordsmanship level 1 to level 5, improving his capacity to understand increasingly difficult sword concepts. Ren's fighting style emphasizes timing, prediction, acceleration, and exact commitment rather than exchanging equal blows. He combines psyon control learned from Donna, physical conditioning, the time perception of Eyes of Chronos, movement arts, and the sealed sword Malvil creates for him. The sword gathers mana more effectively as seals open at higher ranks, but its full power remains tied to Ren's capacity; it cannot safely substitute for the rank and bodily control required by his later movements. Keiki Style and the six movements

The five-star Keiki Style is founded on reproducing the same draw and slash without error. Its mastery ladder begins with enormous repetition: minor, greater, essence, and perfected mastery correspond to increasingly complete understanding rather than merely greater mana output. The first movement, Quick Flash, is a draw so fast that the target may not register the cut. The second, Horizon Splitting Slash, projects a larger cutting force. The third, Void Step, uses explosive movement to reposition, letting Ren translate sword-speed principles into traversal and evasion. (Chapters 5–8, 29, 52, 66, 159, 316, 431)

At essence mastery Ren gains the fourth movement, World Splitter, a strike capable of dividing an extended target or attack line. It is the movement he reveals against Kevin during the interspecies tournament. The fifth movement, Space Splitter, is conceptually beyond Grandmaster Keiki's attained legacy: Ren first grasps it after opening his sword's seal, but the attempt tears his body because his A-rank frame cannot support its spatial force. He learns to reduce the output and later uses the full principle against Duke-ranked enemies. Thus its limitation is not activation knowledge alone; effective use depends on rank, bodily reinforcement, weapon endurance, and accepting severe recoil. Ren first reaches for the sixth movement immediately after breaking through to SS-. The incomplete version helps defeat Suriol but is difficult to perceive and control, and later uses can make his body or mana projection transparent and unstable. After training under the three sword grandmasters and inheriting Kevin's law access, he incorporates Keiki's precision, Gravar's bodily power, and Levisha's principles into a personal art. The complete sixth movement becomes a law-level attack rather than a conventional slash, yet Jezebeth can still suppress or withstand it when Ren relies on it without the necessary opening. Ring of Vindication, Drifting Steps, and complementary arts

Ring of Vindication is a defensive sword art with three established levels: Ring of Aegis, Gravitational Ring, and Elemental Alternation. At early mastery Ren creates rings that intercept attacks; after reaching minor mastery he can keep them revolving under active control, and at greater mastery he unlocks gravitational pull. At essence mastery its stated ideal is a three-dimensional sphere protecting the user from every side. The art lacks the direct killing power of Keiki Style, but that is precisely why it complements Ren: it creates the fraction of time or altered trajectory needed for a decisive draw. Stronger attacks can break individual rings, and maintaining several defenses consumes attention and mana. (Chapters 53–54, 77–81, 120, 145–146, 225, 376)

Drifting Steps increases speed with each uninterrupted step until Ren stops, is injured, or exhausts his mana. Before minor mastery he cannot reliably attack without losing accumulated momentum. At greater and then essence mastery, he stores wind psyons beneath his feet and releases them in short Void-Step-like bursts, making the art useful in confined battles where a long running approach is impossible. Quick-slash Style gives him a simpler speed-focused draw, while Full-body Martial Arts lets him strike and redirect force with his entire body. Ren later studies the Gravar and Levisha traditions not as replacements for Keiki but as missing components in a unified sword art. (Chapters 32–34, 82, 100, 159, 279, 376, 449, 723–765)

Monarch's Indifference and The One

Monarch's Indifference erases Ren's active emotions and makes him calculate the most efficient option regardless of fear, guilt, affection, or pain. It is low-ranked as a skill but exceptionally compatible with a swordsman whose life depends on exact decisions. Ren uses it to kill when hesitation would be fatal, ignore an injured shoulder, and conduct psychologically brutal plans. Its cost is moral and psychological rather than a simple cooldown: decisions made without empathy remain his decisions after the emotions return, and repeated use blurs the boundary between Ren and the cold time remnant in his mind. By the final battle, Jezebeth can render the skill ineffective, proving it is not immunity to superior law or bloodline control. (Chapters 33–35, 64–72, 248–259, 648–650, 855)

The One projects the impression of a sovereign and instills fear in targets. It can affect opponents one rank above Ren, but its influence falls sharply when the gap exceeds two ranks. Ren often activates it for an instant rather than maintaining it, using the induced hesitation to create an opening for Eyes of Chronos or a sword movement. It is psychological pressure, not literal domination: determined or vastly stronger enemies can resist it, and Jezebeth ultimately ignores it. (Chapters 184–186, 376, 406, 425, 855)

Eyes of Chronos and Memory Manipulation

Eyes of Chronos makes Ren perceive the world in slow motion, with greater mana expenditure producing stronger deceleration. The ability does not stop time or automatically move his body faster; it gives him the perception needed to identify minute openings, follow high-speed movement, and choose an angle before deactivation. Sustained or maximal use hurts his eyes, taxes his mana, and can show him an attack his body is still too slow to evade. Against Protector- and Jezebeth-level speed, even the slowed image remains barely manageable or entirely beyond him. (Chapters 368–376, 406, 430–442, 499, 521–523, 779, 822–823)

Memory Manipulation is an S-rank skill that lets Ren inspect, alter, share, or suppress memories. It requires an unguarded, unconscious, or otherwise penetrable mind and consumes very large amounts of mana, so it is not a casual combat command. Ren first uses it while investigating damaged memories, later tests names to reveal erased associations, shares potion knowledge, and rewrites memories during political operations in the Demon Domain. Its breadth makes it one of his most ethically dangerous tools: it can restore what outside forces removed, but it can also manufacture consent or erase accountability. (Chapters 546–560, 662, 712, 733, 757, 771)

Martial Body and bodily reinforcement

Han Yufei's Martial Body manual has three branches: Body Hardening, Mind-Spirit Connection, and Martial Body. Body Hardening progresses through Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Diamond bodies, conditioning Ren to survive forces that his sword concepts and rank alone cannot bear. He reaches Bronze Body and approaches Silver during the demon-world campaigns. Mind-Spirit Connection coordinates thought and motion, while Martial Body temporarily raises effective power by one sub-rank through an extreme physical state. When used immediately after Ren reaches SS-, it forces him to SS against Suriol, but the swelling muscles, ruptured veins, and strain show that the increase is borrowed from his body's safety margin rather than a permanent rank. Demonic blood and Demon Transformation

Ren mixes demonic blood into his body because ordinary mana growth remains vulnerable to demon bloodline suppression. Successful adaptation lets him circulate demonic energy, form demon contracts, consume demonic resources, and manifest black scales, horns, and wings through Demon Transformation. It also magnifies emotions, threatens sanity, and initially regresses his formal rank from SS- to S while the incompatible systems stabilize. World Nectar calms the hybrid state, lets him retain its advantages, and supports his return to SS- by Chapter 721, but the path never makes him universally superior to demons: sufficiently pure bloodlines can still suppress him, and Jezebeth does so in their final confrontation. The other Ren, Dark Servant, and Akashic laws

The other Ren is a time remnant created from the suffering and experience of repeated erased regressions. He shares Ren's body and memories unevenly, can seize control, and initially has access to techniques and strength the conscious Ren cannot explain. His help is conditional and manipulative: he lends a temporary A-rank state, engineers losses to harden Ren, and pursues Jezebeth with a willingness to treat allies as pressure points. He is nevertheless part of Ren rather than an external possessor. Their final exchange of memories and fusion joins the remnant's experience to Ren's attachments, ending the competition for the body without erasing responsibility for either self's actions. (Chapters 397–408, 449–501, 511–600, 609, 804–853)

Dark Servant creates a body made entirely from mana with roughly half the user's skill and strength, lasting while it receives sufficient mana and carrying a five-day cooldown. Ren and the other self use it to divide the pillar campaign from the battle with Jezebeth. The projection can regenerate so long as the mana supply and link remain intact, but it is not consequence-free: its expenditure drains the other self, instability makes Ren's projected body flicker, and using the sixth movement nearly severs their connection. (Chapters 809, 813–815, 824–825)

Kevin's transferred power and the Protector conflict give Ren access to Akashic laws and raise him to SSS-. Each defeated pillar master adds another law, expanding his ability to contest Jezebeth while progressively tearing apart a body not designed to hold the fragments. These laws are neither ordinary skills nor another step on the human mana ladder; they are pieces of the authority underlying the world's status windows, mana, and causality. Touching the Records elevates Ren from law user to Overseer, granting universe-wide access and responsibility. His later restoration of lives is an application of that office, not evidence that his earlier combat abilities had no limits. (Chapters 370, 723–777, 804–858, Epilogues 1–4)

Relationships

• Amanda Stern: Ren first protects Amanda anonymously, later makes her a commercial and operational partner, and eventually trusts her with his vulnerability. Their relationship survives his secrecy and becomes a marriage after she helps create the final opening against Jezebeth.
• Kevin Voss: Ren initially regards Kevin as the protagonist he must preserve, then grows into his friend, rival, and designed counterpart. Kevin's system and regressions are responsible for much of Ren's hidden suffering, but Kevin ultimately transfers his power and life to give Ren a chance against the Records' enemies.
• Angelica von Droix: Their bond begins with defeat, leverage, and a mana contract. Repeated bargains, Immorra, and shared danger turn Angelica into a confidante who challenges Ren's most reckless choices, especially demonic-blood assimilation.
• Smallsnake: Smallsnake grows from a skeptical black-market agent into Ren's closest operational partner and friend. His apparent death personalizes Ren's war with Jezebeth; his restoration after Ren becomes Overseer is among the clearest uses of Ren's new authority.
• Nola Dover: Nola's affection helps Ren accept the Dover family as real. His protective hairpin and repeated efforts to reach her show that she is a dependent he loves rather than a narrative obligation.
• Samantha Dover and Ronald Dover: Ren initially feels like an impostor around the body's parents, but their warmth gradually makes them his mother and father. Ronald's death in the pillars breaks Ren's control because he experiences it as the loss of his own parent.
• Waylan Roshfield: Waylan mentors and sponsors Ren in the dwarven and elven domains, then is revealed as the Protector of Diligence. Their conflict is ideological as well as personal; after becoming Overseer, Ren offers him a human life rather than renewed compulsory service.
• Douglas: Douglas protects Ren's secrets, trains his group, and provides senior backing during the interspecies campaigns. Ren relies on him as one of the few adults capable of both understanding his risks and acting independently.
• Melissa Hall, Ryan Polive, and Ava Leafz: They form the technical core of Ren's plans: Melissa develops cards and potions, Ryan builds surveillance and systems, and Ava supplies reconnaissance through her beasts. Ren values their capabilities but repeatedly withholds the full stakes from them.
• Jin Horton: Ren initially treats Jin as a future asset and uses cruelty to force his growth. Jin becomes a genuine ally whose suspicion of Ren's secrecy remains justified even as they fight on the same side.
• Donna Longbern and Monica Jeffrey: Both become instructors and protectors after first underestimating or merely observing Ren. Their support helps him survive academy politics and public exposure, while their concern tracks the emotional deterioration hidden beneath his rank growth.
• The other Ren: The time remnant is a consciousness formed from Ren's erased regressions. He is mentor, manipulator, rival, and ultimately an inseparable part of Ren; their fusion makes the final Ren responsible for both sets of memories and choices.
• Jezebeth: Jezebeth is Ren's final antagonist and distorted mirror: both resist the Records' imposed order, but Jezebeth pursues freedom through consumption and domination. Ren rejects his deterministic claim that sacrifice makes their choices inevitable.
