Nola's Protective Hairpin

Nola's Protective Hairpin is a gift from Ren Dover that combines an installed location tracker with an automated response to danger.

History

A brother's precaution

Ren gives the hairpin to Nola Dover and installs a small GPS tracker in it because he fears that someone may try to kidnap her. When she wanders away, he follows its position through an application on his phone. He later explains that the costly hairpin is also an automated artifact meant to activate whenever Nola is endangered, an additional precaution even while Amanda's security protects the family. (Chapters 239 and 467)

Properties and functions

  • A GPS device installed by Ren transmits Nola's location to an application on his phone. The tracker is a modification associated with the hairpin; the corpus does not state its range, power source, or resistance to interference. (Chapter 239)
  • The hairpin's artifact function activates automatically when Nola is in danger. No scene in the supplied corpus demonstrates the resulting barrier or other protective effect, so its exact defense, duration, and limits remain unknown. (Chapter 467)
  • Nola can wear it as an ordinary hair accessory, allowing both safeguards to remain with her without active operation on her part. (Chapters 239 and 467)
