Jezebeth

Jezebeth is the Demon King whose attempt to reach the Akashic Records drives the regressions and the final war. The survivor of a purge against demonkind, he turns a search for the reason his race exists into a campaign of conquest, fragment collection, and revenge. His patience, courtesy, and genuine capacity for attachment coexist with planetary destruction and calculated coercion, making him both Ren Dover's ultimate opponent and a distorted reflection of Ren's own willingness to sacrifice others for an answer.

Biography

A hunted child and the first fragment

Jezebeth grows up while demons are hunted from world to world, remembering little stability beyond his parents and the small cube they hang around his neck. His species needs demonic energy to survive, yet other races call demons emotionless mistakes rather than beings struggling to live. When the Protectors destroy his people and leave him dying in space, the broken cube saves him from complete annihilation. The experience fixes three questions at the center of his life: why the world rejects him, what his life means, and who he is. (Chapter 500)

A planetary seed then strikes his body, inflicting overwhelming pain while filling him with information about the Akashic Records and a power he cannot yet explain. That encounter gives his survival a direction. Instead of accepting the Protectors' judgment, he decides that the Records must contain the answer to whether demons were an error and what purpose their existence serves. A future scene preserved in the Time Codex first identifies him by name as Kevin's white-haired enemy; later, from his throne, he destroys demon-converted planets and consumes their seeds to continue the ascent begun by that first fragment. The Records, Earth, and the regression game

Planetary seeds are fragments of the Records, and swallowing them gives Jezebeth access to thin white Akashic laws capable of harming the larger system. He searches selectively rather than destroying every world, targeting planets that conceal seeds and using the demon clans to convert their mana first. Earth remains unusually difficult to reach because its barrier protects Kevin Voss, the Records' chosen anchor. When Kevin establishes five linked portal points, Jezebeth detects the Akashic connection, interferes across the barrier, and scatters the travelers even though the effort injures him badly enough to require months of recovery. (Chapters 466, 499–500, 551, 560, 590)

His conflict with Kevin and Ren has repeated across regressions. Jezebeth knows that the Records are weakening and that Kevin's death or surrender would end their ability to reset the contest, so he tries to turn Ren's resentment against the anchor. He offers release through murder, calls Ren's present consciousness a replacement, and treats accumulated suffering as leverage. Yet his assurance is not absolute: Magnus's defeat surprises him, Ren's other self repeatedly disrupts his predictions, and the cost of reaching across protected space shows that even the Demon King cannot simply ignore every boundary the Records impose. Fragments, Protectors, and the end of restraint

Jezebeth continues consuming planetary seeds because they are both his main source of strength and the route toward the Records. When Kevin transfers his powers to Ren and disappears, Jezebeth recognizes that the old structure of their rivalry has changed. He regrets losing the adversary who understood his conflicting interest, then destroys another quiet world and swallows its seed. The absorption lengthens his hair, changes his eyes from crimson to purplish red, expands his body, and leaves him declaring himself complete before turning openly against the Protectors. (Chapters 628, 755)

His war on the Seven Seats is revenge organized over ages rather than a sudden outburst. Jezebeth explains that the seven demon clans were named as corresponding sins so demonkind would remember the seven Protectors' virtues and the massacre they committed. He kills the Protectors one after another, extracts golden law-orbs from their bodies, and keeps those orbs even though he cannot absorb them directly; their runes can still teach capable subordinates about the laws. Killing the last Seat removes the order that once hunted his race, but it does not answer his oldest question, so victory only clears his path toward a more final confrontation. The Third Cataclysm and the Seven Pillars

With the Protectors gone, Jezebeth launches the Third Cataclysm and deploys the Seven Pillars, a project refined across multiple regressions. The structures draw mana-bearing populations into seven pocket dimensions aligned with the demon clans' sins, starve ordinary beings of replenishing mana, and amplify the demons inside. Jezebeth uses the resulting battles as both a military engine and a coercive display, surrounding Ren with projections of friends and civilians trapped in hostile worlds while offering to spare them if Ren kills himself and yields Kevin's inherited power. (Chapters 793, 804–806)

The scheme reveals both his strategic patience and a personal blind spot. Jezebeth believes the Pillars let him control the choice because he has prepared their mechanics longer than Ren has understood the laws, and he adds the apparently captive Smallsnake to the pressure. In reality, Smallsnake's survival gives Ren an ally inside the system, while Ren's divided bodies destroy Pillar masters and absorb their power. Jezebeth grows visibly agitated as those carefully prepared anchors fail. His frustration exposes the motive beneath universal conquest: he wants the Records principally for an answer, not a throne, and cannot tolerate another apparent finish line moving beyond his reach. The last battle and a different beginning

Jezebeth meets the reunited Ren after the Pillars fall and initially dominates their final contest. His authority over demonic blood suppresses Ren's inherited demon powers, his law-runes fold space and form restraints, and he can withstand attacks that tear the earth apart. He nevertheless takes real damage from Ren's combined laws and relies on armor to survive one of the strongest compressive strikes. When he begins draining Ren's remaining law power, he believes the Records are finally visible and victory is complete; that concentration leaves his back exposed to Amanda Stern's single law-bearing arrow. (Chapters 843, 853–857)

The arrow creates the opening Ren planned around collective action. Ren drains Jezebeth's accumulated power, and the two, emptied of their cosmic advantages, continue with exhausted fists until Jezebeth can no longer rise. He dies thinking of the peaceful blue sky of his childhood and the quiet world he intended to inhabit once he had learned the truth. After Ren becomes Overseer, the main universe explicitly regards Jezebeth as dead, while the remade ending shows a child named Jezebeth living peacefully among friends. The text does not specify whether this child preserves the dead conqueror's consciousness, so the scene should not be treated as confirmed identity continuity or resurrection. Appearance and personality

Jezebeth is a pale, white-haired man with red eyes, usually seen in black armor or seated on a throne while his pressure distorts the space around him. After consuming the seed that makes him “complete,” his hair grows slightly, his muscles expand, an ethereal aura surrounds him, and his eyes take on a purplish-red shade. When he invokes the laws, white radiance and complex golden words or runes move around his body and hands. His late armor is strong enough to reduce damage from an attack that otherwise would have injured him more severely. (Chapters 466, 499, 560, 590, 601, 755, 759, 856)

He is controlled, patient, observant, and often theatrically courteous. Jezebeth drinks tea during negotiations, speaks softly while issuing lethal ultimatums, and measures plans across years and regressions. His calm is not emotional emptiness: he misses Kevin after his death, enjoys Smallsnake's disrespectful company, remembers his parents through the cube shards, and longs for quiet landscapes resembling his home. Those attachments coexist with cruelty. He savors the Protectors' fear, destroys inhabited or demon-held planets for fragments, and weaponizes other people's loved ones without hesitation. (Chapters 500, 590, 602–604, 628, 755–777, 804–806)

His deepest trait is obsessive refusal. Jezebeth accepts pain as fuel and regards persistence as proof that he is not a coward, but millions of years spent pursuing one answer leave him unable to imagine a life outside that pursuit. The composure he presents as superiority therefore breaks whenever the Records seem to retreat from him. He can understand an enemy's motives and even mourn them without abandoning atrocities that serve his objective. At defeat he is indignant but not surprised; having always recognized failure as possible, he meets death with pity for the answer and peace he almost reached rather than simple terror. Powers and abilities

Jezebeth stands at the top of the demon noble ladder as Demon King and gains an additional, separate power source from Akashic fragments. His later capabilities therefore combine demonic bloodline authority, physical and spatial power, and acquired law manipulation. The corpus never gives him a stable human-style letter rank; comparisons that even SSS-range power would be negligible are testimony about scale, not a formal Personal combat rank stage. (Chapters 466, 500, 580, 601, 714)

Demon King authority and bloodline suppression

As Demon King, Jezebeth exercises overwhelming pressure over demons below him and is treated as the sovereign above Prince and Princess rank. Lesser nobles prostrate under his aura, while a glance can immobilize or terrify opponents. His bloodline also lets him suppress demonic lineages: when Ren exposes the demon blood and transformations within his body, Jezebeth makes that blood boil, restricts the inherited powers, and explains that he can suppress nearly any bloodline. This authority is potent against demonic abilities but does not erase Ren's separately acquired Protector blood and Akashic laws. (Chapters 466, 499, 601–602, 714, 855)

His demonic power supports immense physical strength, speed, endurance, and destructive reach. Jezebeth crosses gaps before Protectors can react, stops their bodies with a word long enough to reposition them, survives world-shattering exchanges, and breaks Ren's body through repeated close combat. These demonstrations are not limitless. Protector attacks cut him, the final duel makes him bleed, his armor materially reduces injury, and once Amanda's arrow enables Ren to drain his stored energy, he is reduced to ordinary exhausted blows and can no longer heal or channel his former power. Planetary seeds and Akashic laws

The first Planetary Seed changes Jezebeth's life by giving him information about the Records and access to a strange new force. Each later seed is another Akashic fragment. He obtains them by destroying selected planets after demonic conversion, beckoning the bright core-like orb through a spatial fissure, and swallowing it. Absorption increases his power and gradually restores knowledge, while the white threads he calls Akashic laws are explicitly the only force he knows that can harm the Records. The process is painful and cumulative rather than an effortless spell. (Chapters 466, 499–500, 551, 628, 755)

Law mastery lets Jezebeth bend or fold space, create fissures across interplanetary distances, form barriers and chains, project giant hands or fingers, immobilize targets, and drain law power from another bearer. It also allows him to sense Kevin or Ren when their connection to the Records is exposed. Range and access remain conditional: Earth's protection prevents him from directly taking Kevin, breaking the five Akashic portal links injures him for months, and targets hidden without a detectable mana or aura trace can escape his immediate perception. In the final battle, Ren's law control can injure him and Amanda's law-influencing arrow bypasses the victory he had nearly secured. (Chapters 551, 560, 590, 755, 804–806, 843, 855–857)

Seven Pillars and law-orbs

The Seven Pillars are a constructed application of Jezebeth's accumulated mastery rather than a natural demon trait. Each pillar creates a sealed pocket dimension associated with one sin, moves mana-bearing inhabitants into it, leaves the environment rich in demonic energy but poor in recoverable mana, and amplifies the corresponding demons. Jezebeth can observe the internal worlds through projections and expects their masters to act as anchors. The design is formidable but not self-sustaining: killing a Pillar master and absorbing its power destabilizes that world, after which the structure cracks and releases survivors. (Chapters 804–815)

The golden orbs extracted from dead Protectors hold law information, but Jezebeth explicitly cannot absorb them himself. He keeps them for seven suitable subordinates, reasoning that study of the surrounding runes could grant a limited understanding of the laws. This distinction matters: killing the Protectors removes cosmic opponents and supplies tools for the Pillar campaign, but it does not automatically make Jezebeth a Protector or Overseer. His authority remains acquired law mastery directed toward seizing the Records, and Ren reaches the Overseer office only after Jezebeth's death. (Chapters 766–777, 806, 858)

Strategic perception and coercion

Jezebeth reads power connections, recognizes patterns left by earlier regressions, and plans on a cosmic time scale. He identifies Ren's internal identity conflict, predicts that emotional pressure can make him act against Kevin, deploys Magnus to search candidate planets, and refines the Pillars across multiple loops. His favored method is controlled choice: threaten several valued lives, define surrender as the only merciful answer, and use calm language to make resistance seem irrational. (Chapters 590, 601–604, 628, 755, 804–806)

That intelligence is vulnerable to assumptions about isolation. Jezebeth understands individuals well but repeatedly expects his enemies to make solitary calculations like his own. He underestimates Smallsnake's double purpose inside the demon hierarchy, Ren's capacity to divide labor among bodies and allies, and Amanda's willingness to pay a catastrophic cost for one opening. Ren's final answer—“I don't work alone”—identifies the practical counter to Jezebeth's otherwise superior accumulation of personal power. (Chapters 755, 806, 814–819, 857)

• Ren Dover: Ren is Jezebeth's recurring opponent, intended victim, and psychological mirror. Jezebeth alternates between contempt for the current Ren and respect for the colder time-remnant consciousness, but both repeatedly disrupt his path to the Records. Their final duel opposes Jezebeth's solitary accumulation against Ren's dependence on allies. Ren kills him and becomes Overseer; the remade ending subsequently shows a peaceful child Jezebeth without confirming identity continuity. (Chapters 312, 601–604, 618, 628, 755, 804–819, 843–858)
• Kevin Voss: Kevin is the anchor chosen by the Records and the adversary whose regressions repeatedly undo Jezebeth's victories. Although their goals are incompatible, Jezebeth does not personally hate him and feels lonely when Kevin sacrifices himself. Kevin's transfer of power to Ren removes one rival but concentrates the final obstacle in a new bearer. (Chapters 312, 500–551, 590, 597–604, 618, 755, 854)
• Smallsnake: Jezebeth keeps Smallsnake after the compressor escape and comes to enjoy his blunt company while employing him as the demons' Strategist. He later uses Smallsnake's life as leverage against Ren, not realizing that the strategist's survival and placement also serve Ren's counterplan. (Chapters 601–604, 755, 766–770, 806, 818)
• Magnus: Magnus worships Jezebeth as an omniscient god and carries out his search for the scattered humans. His loyalty collapses when memory evidence shows the Demon King losing in another regression, and his resulting instability helps Ren's group defeat him. Jezebeth is surprised by the loss but correctly suspects interference by Ren's other self. (Chapters 560, 576, 590, 597–601)
• Waylan Roshfield: Waylan is one of the Seven Protectors who helped purge demonkind. Jezebeth's long campaign targets Waylan's order as both an obstacle and the object of revenge; Ren kills Waylan before Jezebeth's final assault on the remaining Seats. (Chapters 500, 755–777)
• Amanda Stern: Jezebeth largely treats Amanda as secondary to Ren, but her hidden position and single law-bearing arrow decide the final duel. The strike breaks his advantage long enough for Ren to drain the power accumulated over his journey. (Chapters 854–857)
