Time Codex

The Time Codex is a small red book that links Ren Dover and Kevin Voss to possible events across regressions. It is an active temporal artifact rather than an ordinary written record.

History

The book in Ren's package

Ren finds the unmarked red book among possessions sent by his mother and initially dismisses it. He soon discovers that its pages describe events centered on Kevin with enough specificity to guide immediate decisions. Ren begins carrying it whenever Kevin is present, reading upcoming threats in dungeons and operations and treating it as his most important strategic advantage. The information is not infallible in the ordinary sense: intervention changes what follows, and its usefulness depends on interpreting a possible course of events rather than passively obeying a fixed script. Kevin's memories and altered death

A second manifestation appears in Kevin's room. Opening it triggers pain, visions and memories of experiences he has not personally lived, drawing him into the regressions hidden behind Ren's knowledge. The system later names it the Time Codex and orders Kevin to use it to alter Ren's predicted death. Kevin succeeds, forcing a breakthrough and changing the depicted outcome, while the book continues to disappear and reappear beyond normal storage rules. Ren and Kevin eventually acknowledge that both can perceive it and that it connects their otherwise incompatible knowledge. (Chapters 310–324, 341, 356–374, and 397–408)

Absorption into Kevin's plan

After the Cassaria crisis, Kevin can form the Codex directly over his palm and begins absorbing it. The displayed process reaches sixteen percent and later thirty-five percent, with an early absorption granting five percent synchronization. He still materializes and reads the thin red book afterward and temporarily slides it across Ren's desk, so absorption is progressive rather than an immediate destruction of the object. The local corpus does not show a completed percentage or a later independent custodian; its temporal knowledge instead becomes entangled with Kevin's synchronization and the power he prepares to transfer to Ren. Properties and functions

Conditional future record

The Codex displays detailed scenes involving Kevin and people around him. Ren uses those scenes for routes, enemy timing, dungeon hazards and conspiracies, but action taken from the information can change the result. It therefore records a temporal possibility informed by prior regression knowledge, not an unalterable prophecy. Its coverage is selective, and Ren repeatedly needs Kevin nearby or involved for the book to serve as a dependable “cheat.” (Chapters 52, 120–129, 164–180, 225–249, and 356–374)

Memory transmission and synchronization

Contact can flood Kevin with visions and memories tied to Ren and prior events, causing severe headaches, distraction or unconsciousness. Later absorption converts a measured portion of the Codex into synchronization progress. Kevin can also materialize it from his hand after the process begins, demonstrating that its physical form is not governed by ordinary dimensional storage. The exact material composition and the final state of complete absorption are not explained. (Chapters 310–324, 397–408, 617–618, and 634)

Limits and risks

The book cannot simply solve every conflict. Its information must be read and interpreted, can be rendered obsolete by changed choices, and exposes both users to manipulation embedded in the regression structure. Kevin's contact produces debilitating pain, while Ren's reliance can conceal the motives of the people who arranged the timeline. The Codex also disappears without either holder controlling when or where it will return. (Chapters 310–374, 397–408, and 594–595)

• Ren Dover: Initial physical custodian after receiving the package and the principal early reader. The corpus shows possession and use, but no conventional purchase or legal title. (Chapters 10–249, 322, 398–408, 437, and 460)
• Kevin Voss: Chosen temporal user, recipient of its memories, and later absorber. He can materialize the Codex, use it to change Ren's death, and lend or pass its physical form temporarily. (Chapters 310–374, 397–408, 617–618, 634, and 662)
• Amanda Stern: Brief temporary custodian during a Codex-induced sequence; she handles the book but neither owns it nor understands the relocation it causes. (Chapter 595)
