Seed of Limit

The Seed of Limit is a consumable seed that removes a person's natural rank cap without granting combat talent or immediate mastery.

History

The climb to Clayton Ridge

Knowing where the Seed should appear, Ren Dover climbs Clayton Ridge before the academy excursion that would have led the original protagonist to it. He finds the seed inside a pale-red fruit growing on a tree in a hidden cave. Ren regards it as the foundation of his chance to escape his body's limits, but understands that it cannot replace training or technique. (Chapters 3–4)

Consumption and its cost

Ren first eats the surrounding fruit, which immediately improves several physical statistics, and then swallows the ordinary-looking brown seed itself. The Seed's activation is delayed and excruciating: energy floods his body, he feels as though his bones and veins are shattering, and he loses consciousness. After waking, he confirms that the Seed did not directly raise his statistics; instead, it removed the bottleneck that would otherwise cap his future advancement. (Chapter 4)

Properties and functions

  • The Seed removes the consumer's rank or level cap and increases the scope for future training, allowing continued improvement without the former natural bottleneck. (Chapter 4)
  • It does not create talent, skill, or immediate combat competence. Ren explicitly distinguishes the Seed's limit-breaking effect from the statistic increase supplied by the fruit that contained it. (Chapter 4)
  • Activation causes overwhelming pain, loss of consciousness, and lingering stiffness severe enough that Ren must slowly recover control of his muscles. The corpus presents these effects for Ren but does not establish whether every consumer experiences the same severity. (Chapter 4)
  • The Seed is consumed once. No reusable object or transferable remnant remains afterward. (Chapter 4)
