Lan Jue

Lan Jue is the proprietor of Zeus' Jewelry Store, the former mercenary king Zeus, and a lightning Adept whose return to public life draws him from private grief into the defense of humanity. Behind his deliberately ordinary identities as a jeweler and etiquette professor, he is a God-ranked mecha pilot, a member of the Skyfire Council, the commander of Star Division, and ultimately the Paragon titled the Middle Heaven Great Emperor of the North Pole Star of Purple Subtlety.

Biography

Skyfire Avenue and the Shattered Starfields

Lan Jue begins the story in self-imposed retirement on Skyfire Avenue. Three years earlier, his beloved Hera apparently died when a planet was destroyed, and the loss emptied his former life of purpose. He abandoned his celebrated career as Zeus, one of the Four Divine Monarchs and a mercenary known for accepting missions that served vigilante justice, then settled among the Avenue's connoisseurs and craftspeople. His refined routines—jewelry, wine, food, tailored clothes, and old-world etiquette—give shape to a life he admits has become deliberately decadent and directionless. (Chapters 1–23)

A message claiming that Hera is alive ruptures that quiet. Lan Jue follows it to Zhou Qianlin's wedding, mistakes her extraordinary resemblance for proof that Hera survived, and carries her away as Zeus. When he realizes she is not the woman he lost, hope turns back into grief. Qianlin nevertheless binds him to a promise to act as her bodyguard, while the fallout brings him into her life at the National Eastern University. He accepts a position teaching etiquette, conceals his combat identity behind the mild persona of Professor Lan, and gradually finds satisfaction in showing students that dignity rests in conduct rather than wealth. (Chapters 6–45)

His retirement is never complete. As a Skyfire Council member he protects his employees and the Avenue, and as Zeus he investigates a remarkable ore and follows the trail into the Shattered Starfields. There the Pontiff's Citadel uses his concern for Mika to draw him into an ambush by four Archangels. Lan Jue chooses to protect Mika because she rejected the Dark Citadel's attempt to turn her into Satan's successor; he had taken her in, taught her to suppress that inherited darkness, and made her one of his household rather than a weapon. Against Michael he spends his brief Ascension as a feint, reveals a second lightning Discipline and superior speed only after the Angel commits to Adventus, and uses Thor and his companions' intervention to escape a battle meant to kill them. The victory saves the Amazons, but it leaves Lan Jue severely injured. (Chapters 57–97)

The crisis also forces a reckoning with his brother, Lan Qing. Lan Jue had carried guilt over Hera's death and distance from the brother who failed to reach her in time, while Lan Qing had carried the same failure as a private wound. Their first reunion is violent and guarded, yet Lan Qing's insistence that family gives him the right to help finally breaks through the resentment between them. Lan Jue explains Mika's history, refuses to abandon her, and later tells Lan Qing that he never blamed him for Hera. Their awkward shared cigarette and Lan Jue's pride in having an admiral for a brother restore a bond that becomes central to every later campaign. (Chapters 92–102)

Teaching, Taihua, and the NEU

Recovery returns Lan Jue to the small responsibilities that begin rebuilding him. He apologizes to his university class for his unexplained absence, resumes his lectures, and takes Jin Tao and Tang Xiao seriously when others see only a delinquent and an overweight failure. He is demanding because he believes improvement matters more than talent or status: he arranges brutal but purposeful training, protects his students from consequences they cannot manage, and measures success by whether they become better than they were. The same instinct governs his care for the Amazons and for Qianlin—sometimes overprotectively, but consistently as a responsibility he chose. (Chapters 103–133)

That sense of responsibility becomes decisive on Planet Taihua when violet creatures overrun a student excursion. Still not fully healed from the Archangel ambush, Lan Jue organizes the survivors, pilots Thor against enemies beyond the expedition's expectations, and drinks the dangerous Fantascia Genetica Decoction when ordinary reserves will not be enough. He knows neither whether the drug will destroy him nor what will remain after its effects fade. He uses its violent amplification to sustain Ascension, calls the weather and golden lightning against the largest creature, and continues long enough for others to live. The choice nearly kills him, but it marks the point where a man who had lived without hope accepts the duty of being a guardian of humanity. (Chapters 131–144)

Qianlin then risks her own Core to save him. Her white Discipline enters his damaged body, while the Doctor seals the decoction's remaining Paragon-level force into a Phylactery Stone tied to Lan Jue's life. Lan Jue awakens stronger, with the experience of temporarily touching protogenia and with the Silkworm-like healing power having improved his body, but he is unsettled by the increasingly familiar quality of Qianlin's abilities. Rather than treat the mystery as permission to call her Hera, he begins teaching her cultivation and trying to understand her as herself. (Chapters 145–168)

At the NEU he also returns to mecha combat under the deliberately anonymous name Lei Feng. He demonstrates God-ranked piloting without turning the exercise into self-promotion, exposes the students' weaknesses, and accepts responsibility for the ARC special class that follows. His lessons unite practical piloting, physical conditioning, Discipline control, and trust between teammates. When the Clairvoyant's final gathering brings the great Adept organizations to Skyfire, Lan Jue stands beside Mika as she refuses Satan's invitation to return to the Dark Citadel; Satan entrusts her safety to him, acknowledging that Lan Jue has become the family she chose. (Chapters 179–267)

DreamNet trials and a joined fate

Lan Jue converts the ARC class from a school program into a disciplined unit. In DreamNet he, Hua Li, and Chu Cheng face the Star Alliance's elite team while simultaneously testing how far their students have come. He does not rely on raw force alone: he reads the opposing formation, coordinates Thor with Triton and the others, and uses Thor's Hammer knowing that its electromagnetic disruption creates only a few decisive seconds. The match exposes the limits of even God-ranked teamwork, but it also demonstrates Lan Jue's defining strength as a field commander—he treats information, timing, and the distinct gifts of his companions as weapons equal to his lightning. (Chapters 268–291)

He carries that method into the ARC class's second phase and the confrontation with Lan Qing's soldiers. Lan Jue submits his trainees to pressures that once would have broken them, then gives them tactical problems instead of scripted victories. His goal is not merely to produce stronger Adepts; it is to make a group able to preserve one another under battlefield conditions. This is also why he trusts Wang Hongyuan despite the man's hidden history and why he keeps investing in Jin Tao and Tang Xiao after their early failures. Choices, in Lan Jue's view, matter more than origins. (Chapters 292–323)

The Clairvoyant's intervention then links Lan Jue and Qianlin more profoundly than either understands. After danger in the Barrows, a silver net constrains Lan Jue's Core so that he can access only about a third of his former power when apart from her. Contact restores and strengthens his Talent; a kiss allows Qianlin to dissolve into him, joining their Cores and raising their combined output to the peak of ninth level. Lan Jue does not pretend to understand the mechanism. He recognizes both the tactical potential and the loss of autonomy it creates, and he searches for a way to protect Qianlin while living with a bond neither of them chose in full knowledge. (Chapters 324–350)

Their intimacy grows inside that uncertainty. Qianlin's presence helps Lan Jue revisit Hera's death without mistaking grief for a complete account of the woman beside him, while Lan Jue's steadiness lets Qianlin reveal more of her fear and affection. In Reims and the Barrows, amid a dispute rooted in the old gods of wine, he supports the Wine Master without reducing the conflict to revenge. Aubert's remorse and surrender show him that pride can corrupt genuine devotion, reinforcing Lan Jue's own preference for mastery as service rather than domination. (Chapters 347–365)

Western infiltration and the Great Adept Tournament

Lan Jue's next journey begins with rescue rather than competition. When Su Xiaosu is caught between the Dark Citadel and the Pontiff's forces, he and Qianlin infiltrate Western strongholds, exploit his ability to travel through electrical systems, and recover her instead of accepting that her past makes her expendable. He offers her a place among the Amazons and later within Star Division. The rescue confirms a consistent principle in his loyalties: Mika, Xiaosu, and the others are not followers he owns, but people whose attempts to choose a different life he will defend. (Chapters 366–388)

At the Great Adept Tournament on Planet Luo, Lan Jue enters as Zeus while his cultivation is still constrained and rebuilt from a much lower rank. He accepts that apparent weakness because repeating the path gives him a purer foundation and finer control than simply restoring lost power. He also adopts Jun'er as his daughter in all but blood, giving the lonely child a father to cheer for and a promise of family beyond the arena. Winning is secondary: he repeatedly seeks pressure that will reveal weaknesses in his understanding, even dismissing easier routes to victory when a difficult exchange can teach him more. (Chapters 389–433)

His battles transform that understanding. Against the Wolf King he uses Jue Di's Taiji to redirect attacks that vastly exceed his reduced Discipline, making an opponent's strength undermine itself. Against later rivals he fuses Taiji with lightning's vacuum and explosive qualities, develops a Forest of Lightning, and learns to compress his Core and refine yang power until yin emerges at its extreme. The tournament therefore becomes the place where his father's martial teaching, his dual lightning Talent, and the lessons of re-cultivation begin to form one coherent path to Paragon. (Chapters 434–476)

Lan Jue reaches the final against Jun Yongye, not through an uncontested superiority but through control, endurance, and his willingness to learn in public. Their clash gives him a clearer glimpse of the Path and reveals the sword spirit whose later identity is bound to Captus. After the tournament, Hua Li uses the public stage to reveal Lan Jue's role in saving Taihua, overturning Zeus' image as merely a mercenary or spectacle. Lan Jue himself remains uncomfortable with the acclaim; what matters to him is that the disaster shown to the audience warns humanity about the violet threat. (Chapters 477–492)

The Banishing Blades and Star Division

The revelation of the Four Banishing Blades changes Lan Jue's private cultivation into a strategic obligation. He travels to Planet Ziluo and reunites with Jue Di, the teacher he calls father, and with Luo Xianni, whose maternal claim on him is as forceful as her power. Jue Di's lessons deepen his Taiji and sword foundations, but the family reunion also places Lan Jue between two legacies: the simple life he wants and the ancient weapons humanity may need. He accepts the responsibility without pretending that strength itself is his ambition. (Chapters 493–507)

Back on Skyfire Avenue he helps turn the Avenue's scattered specialists into Star Division. He returns to the role of demon drillmaster, sets common tactical standards, and makes the former ARC students part of a larger force rather than favored protégés. The dying Clairvoyant then gives him Hera's and Qianlin's recordings. Lan Jue learns that Hera was Zhou Jinyu, Qianlin's elder sister, and that her relationship with him began as an assignment but became genuine love. He also learns that Qianlin approached him under an engineered public identity to continue Hera's mission, only to fall in love and decide she could no longer deceive him. The truth does not erase his grief; it ends his confusion between the sisters. He consciously chooses Qianlin and promises to cherish the person she is. (Chapters 508–533)

Lan Jue's joining with Captus follows. A piece of thunder essence found on Lyr enters and reshapes his Core, filtering the ancient blade's destructive power so that the sword can join with his body and spirit without killing him. He endures the process because Captus and the other blades may be essential against the violet worlds, but he refuses the temptation to hurry into Paragon. Instead he works to become symbiotic with the sword, learns its focused flow through Jun Yongye, and supports Qianlin while she joins with Demortus. When offered the possibility that thunder essence might one day let him seek immortality, his first concern is whether Qianlin could share that life; he sees no value in endless years without her. (Chapters 536–557)

Star Division's first operations put that new strength into practice. Lan Jue scouts pirate territory, commands precise strikes, and insists on rescue and intelligence rather than indiscriminate destruction. The encounter with the Violet Princess costs the Division the Barber and exposes how far the alien elite stand above human Adepts. Lan Jue orders retreat rather than sacrifice everyone to pride, then returns to training with renewed urgency. Qianlin's recovery and Demortus joining allow them to begin the Harmonious Swords, while his practice with the Driver purifies his lightning further. His path toward Paragon is now inseparable from command: every advance is measured against whether he can bring his people home. (Chapters 558–635)

Alien war and the Northern front

When the Astral Phantom targets Lan Qing, Lan Jue helps defeat her but supports custody over execution after seeing her condition and recognizing her value as a Paragon. Jue Di proposes an oath as the alternative to death, Lan Jue approves the mercy, and Lan Qing imposes the permanent soul mark that turns the assassin into his protector. At the subsequent auction Lan Jue also manipulates the Western leaders' rivalry to keep them politically constrained, while Hua Li's public return as Poseidon gives the East a powerful ally. These maneuvers show Lan Jue becoming as comfortable with strategic leverage as direct combat. (Chapters 636–657)

The alien attack on Lyr transforms warning into open war. Lan Jue brings Skyfire's forces to the rescue, confronts the Violet Princess again, and supports Lan Qing's fleet rather than treating the campaign as a contest between brothers. On scouting and infiltration missions, he prioritizes intelligence about the alien hierarchy and their planet-scale movements. Moonfiend's destruction and the deaths around it make the cost unmistakable. When an operation fails, he accepts military judgment, but he also argues from the evidence his team paid to obtain and helps refine the next response. (Chapters 658–697)

By the time he reaches ninth level ninth rank, Lan Jue is both a Council leader and an operational commander. He supports restructuring Skyfire's command for wartime use and attends the Human Survival Conference to press for cooperation among alliances that still distrust one another. He proposes reconnaissance, shared intelligence, and concentration of the best Adepts instead of assuming bastion ships alone can solve the threat. When the Terminator doubts the destructive value of Adepts, Lan Jue accepts a controlled trial and combines his power with Qianlin's Harmonious Swords to prove that human cultivation can damage what conventional weapons cannot. (Chapters 698–721)

The conference is followed immediately by a personal crisis. When the Pharmacist flies toward the alien home worlds after sensing Li Ke through Ultus, Lan Jue takes Zeus-1 and pursues her alone. He cannot treat her as expendable, but he also understands that the sword remains in Monarch's hands and that recovering it will eventually be necessary to assemble the Banishing Strategy. The pursuit places him near the enemy's larger transformation and confirms that the aliens are not merely feeding: they are gathering the conditions to establish a realm capable of resisting the universe itself. Lan Jue enters the final phase of the war knowing humanity must recover the blade and interrupt that transformation, not merely win local battles. (Chapters 722–732)

Planet rescues and the human counteroffensive

Lan Jue opens the counteroffensive by challenging its haste. Political pressure on the North demands action, but he argues for another scouting mission because the aliens' passive posture looks like a trap. When the attack proceeds, he accepts command of the planetary force and deploys Star Division in mutually supporting teams. On the ground he uses broad lightning to destroy buried alien vessels and halt their poison, while relying on Lin Guoguo's finer psychic perception to locate survivors. His command style remains collaborative: he assigns tasks to the people best equipped for them rather than confusing leadership with doing everything himself. (Chapters 733–742)

The apparent victory becomes an ambush. Lan Jue confronts a progenitor, helps extract the ground forces, and recognizes that preserving the fleet matters more than holding poisoned territory. After the enemy's devastating trap, he supports a change of course and incorporates rescued Western forces rather than leaving them behind. He then volunteers for further reconnaissance, using small teams, deception, and rapid extraction to map the alien position. Repeated contact shows him that the home worlds think strategically and will trade bodies and territory for a larger evolutionary objective. (Chapters 743–770)

During the liberation of occupied planets, Lan Jue and Qianlin finally cross into Paragon together. Lan Jue's accumulated restraint, thunder essence, lightning cultivation, Captus, and Jue Di's teaching manifest as the dharma of the Middle Heaven Great Emperor of the North Pole Star of Purple Subtlety. His Boundless Starlight Domain contains the Palm of Five Lightnings and treats its enclosed space as a reality governed by his protogenia. Qianlin manifests Guanyin, the Queen of Heaven, whose stabilizing and restorative Domain complements his destructive one. The breakthrough makes them vastly stronger, but they still proceed as partners rather than treating their new ranks as invulnerability. (Chapters 771–799)

They use those joined Domains to save Heaven's Light. Lan Jue's All-Heaven Lightning destroys alien corruption, while Qianlin's power purifies survivors and restores their will. Against Monarch's avatar, Boundless Starlight cuts the creature off from its home worlds and constrains it inside Lan Jue's rules; the Harmonious Swords then combine Captus and Demortus with both Domains to destroy it and cleanse its vital crystal. Satan sacrifices himself during the same defense to buy the others time. Lan Jue cannot fully explain every interaction that makes the attack succeed, and he says so. What is clear is the consequence: a newly ascended pair can defeat a Nirvana-level representative, and the survivors' faith in Qianlin begins pushing both of them toward still higher—and potentially unstable—power. (Chapters 800–809)

The Banishing Strategy and the Immortal Realm

Lan Jue enters the final campaign balancing power with restraint. He and Qianlin deliberately stabilize their Domains instead of rushing through Nirvana, and he helps carry excess faith-energy that would otherwise destabilize her. He continues to command Star Division in smaller units and supports the defense of Angel because humanity promised its rescued Western population protection. His power is now essential, but he still listens to Lan Qing's strategic judgment, Jue Di's cultivation advice, and the particular capabilities of the other Paragons. (Chapters 810–836)

Lan Qing's most dangerous plan sends Lan Jue and Qianlin into the alien home worlds. Captured inside the enemy's forming immortal realm, they survive through Boundless Starlight, their dharmas, and their complete mutual trust. They recover Ultus and escape with the four Banishing Blades finally assembled, but the victory is shadowed by sacrifice: Xiuxiu gives her life protecting Jun'er, and later allies expend themselves to preserve the sword bearers. Lan Jue grieves openly, yet he does not let grief turn their sacrifices into an excuse for a reckless attack. He returns to the formation plan because ending the alien threat is the only consequence worthy of those losses. (Chapters 837–880)

Li Ke explains that the complete Banishing Strategy requires Lan Jue, Lan Qing, Qianlin, and the Pharmacist to join themselves to the four swords. Lan Jue accepts even though the formation may consume them. While the remaining Paragons and fleets die holding Monarch and the Violet Prince away, he guides Captus and the other blades, temporarily reaches the Infinite through faith and ancient lineage, and orders humanity's surviving forces to withdraw. The sword bearers complete the Strategy only because others—Jue Di, Luo Xianni, the Keeper, the Bookworm, the Gods of Wine, and countless soldiers—spend their lives to give them the necessary time. Lan Jue witnesses those deaths from inside the formation and carries their cost into the final strike. (Chapters 881–900)

The completed Strategy erases Monarch and the Violet Prince. Lan Jue then turns immediately from destruction to containment: he helps restrain the formation, destroys the alien soul-fragments without harming the human ones, and works with Qianlin to gather the remnants of fallen Paragons into the Compliance Rod. The victory leaves Europa transformed into an immortal realm. Although that realm could sustain further cultivation beyond the Infinite, Lan Jue rejects immortality as a personal goal; he wants an ordinary life with Qianlin, not endless advancement. He leaves its management to Jue Di and returns to Skyfire Avenue. (Chapters 900–903)

Three years later, Lan Jue is married to Qianlin and they have a young son, Lan Zhou. He also shares responsibility for Jun'er and Hua Li's son, Hua Yun. Rather than rule the Adept world his actions helped save, he again teaches etiquette at the NEU under the name Lei Feng and lives on the Avenue he chose as home. The ending does not restore the life he lost with Hera. It completes the change begun on Taihua: Lan Jue survives grief, accepts new love and family without denying the old, and uses immense power to make an ordinary future possible. (Chapter 903)

Appearance and personality

Lan Jue is introduced as a man in his twenties with short black hair, bright eyes, and a languid expression. At ease in his shop, he initially wears black clothes and a white vest, keeps some stubble, and lets his hair remain slightly untidy. These details never make him seem careless: his movements are smooth and graceful, the visible result of years of noble etiquette training. In his public role as Professor Lan he is normally meticulously groomed, favors tailored suits, waistcoats, ties, pocket squares, and restrained cologne, and carries the cultivated bearing that makes his lessons credible. (Chapters 1, 42–45, and 109–110)

His relaxed smile and love of wine, food, jewelry, and fine workmanship can make him appear idle. The impression conceals intense discipline. In danger he becomes cold, observant, and willing to endure extreme pain, but he rarely mistakes fury for a plan. His fights against Michael, tournament rivals, and the alien elite repeatedly turn on withholding information, testing an opponent's assumptions, and committing power only when it will change the result. He can be teasing, vain about good taste, and mischievous with friends, yet he is uncomfortable with empty status and public adulation. (Chapters 2–5, 82–91, 268–291, and 477–492)

Lan Jue's central moral trait is chosen responsibility. He protects Mika after learning the danger in her bloodline, accepts students whom others dismiss, treats the Amazons as family, and repeatedly risks himself to recover civilians and soldiers. That protectiveness has flaws: he can conceal danger, decide what burdens others should bear, or overwork himself rather than ask for help. Over time, command teaches him to trust other people's expertise and choices. His enduring private desire is not conquest or immortality but a quiet home, meaningful work, and a family he can keep safe. (Chapters 97, 131–151, 265–267, 557, 733–770, and 902–903)

Disciplines and abilities

Lan Jue's capabilities combine an innate dual lightning Talent, God-ranked mecha piloting, Jue Di's martial instruction, the reshaping influence of thunder essence and Captus, and the Paragon inheritance that later manifests through his dharma and Domain. Several effects are explicitly demonstrated before their underlying mechanism is explained; where the text leaves that mechanism incomplete, the distinction is preserved below.

Dual lightning Disciplines and Electromorphosis

Lan Jue possesses two complementary electrical Disciplines, described in the corpus as thunderbolt and lightning/electricity. Their distinction is not always expressed consistently, but Michael establishes that the second gives Lan Jue extreme speed beyond what an ordinary thunder Discipline could produce. Both are yang-aligned when contrasted with the Driver's taiyin lightning. Before Paragon, Lan Jue's dual Talent gives him exceptional explosive force but places heavy demands on his Core and control. He can project bolts, whips, wide-area storms, electromagnetic effects, and movement so fast it appears to tear or fold space; the corpus demonstrates the speed but does not provide a complete physical mechanism for it. (Chapters 58, 87, 158, and 435–436)

Electromorphosis turns his body into a crystalline electrical form and amplifies the Discipline. Early use sheds violent arcs and energy; after Taihua and further cultivation he can hold the transformation inside himself without wasting a visible trace. His electricity can enter machines, power or enhance a mecha, travel through conductive systems, sense electrical activity, and create vacuum-like attraction that he later incorporates into Taiji. The same affinity lets him absorb lightning-derived energy more safely after thunder essence becomes part of his Core. His chief early limitations are consumption, injury to the Core, and imperfect command: explosive output without control can harm him, his surroundings, or allies. (Chapters 87–90, 158–160, 214, 383, 435–436, and 599)

Ascension and Godly Decrees

Ascension is Lan Jue's pre-Paragon supreme form. It changes his hair, eyes, clothing, and aura to gold and briefly raises him to the boundary of Paragon, allowing him to touch protogenia and command natural forces on a scale unavailable to an ordinary ninth-level Adept. Through Godly Decrees he calls clouds and lightning, directs battlefield weather, and produces attacks strong enough to injure Archangels or fight a planet-scale creature. It is innate rather than item-generated. (Chapters 82–87, 141–144, and 159)

The form's defining limitation is duration and cost. Against the Archangels he can normally maintain it for roughly ten seconds, and its apparent expenditure is dangerous enough that Michael assumes Lan Jue will be helpless afterward. Lan Jue exploits that expectation by drawing on both Disciplines and treating Ascension as a feint. On Taihua, the Fantascia Genetica Decoction supplies enough uncontrolled force to prolong it, but only by placing his life and Core at risk; he uses the high energy requirement of Ascension to consume and direct the drug's effects until help arrives. The Phylactery Stone later stores the remaining force, leaving him with experience of protomorphic power but not permanent Paragon mastery. Once he truly becomes a Paragon, Ascension is superseded by his dharma and Domain. (Chapters 83–91 and 140–152)

Taiji, Core control, and re-cultivation

Jue Di teaches Lan Jue the Nine Strikes of Taiji and its broader principle of overcoming unyielding force with softness. Lan Jue forms black-and-white vortices, redirects momentum, alters an attack's center, and uses an opponent's strength to cast it away. It is primarily a method of control and transformation rather than a fixed energy blast. His mastery is strong enough to neutralize physically superior tournament opponents, defend with Captus against Demortus' Ten Thousand Swords, and later redirect the combined power of the Banishing Blades. (Chapters 384, 435–456, 476, 504, 595, and 878)

He progressively fuses Taiji with his lightning. Electricity's attraction reinforces the vortex, while Taiji tempers the destructive, restless nature of his yang Discipline. Practice with the Driver demonstrates that taiyang and taiyin lightning can be compressed into a much denser protogenic force, but their first attempt explodes because neither controls the interaction. Later, thunder essence and better control allow the energies to combine and be absorbed safely. In combat, Lan Jue can use the same principle to condense yang lightning until yin arises at its extreme, producing power beyond a simple sum of attacks. (Chapters 435–442, 456–481, and 599)

The silver bond with Qianlin initially reduces Lan Jue to roughly one-third power when they are apart, forcing him to re-cultivate rather than recover by shortcut. Repeating the ranks purifies his Discipline, strengthens his foundation, and gives him much finer knowledge of every stage. When Qianlin merges with him their linked Cores restore and amplify his power, but the bond is reciprocal: injury or nourishment to one affects the other. He treats their fusion as a shared condition, not a personal technique he fully owns, and its origin in the Clairvoyant's intervention remains only partly understood. Thor and God-ranked piloting

Lan Jue is a God-ranked pilot who can integrate his Discipline with Thor, his custom sapphire-blue mecha. His electrical Talent replenishes or enhances the machine, supports extreme acceleration, and lets him translate his personal speed and control into mechanical combat. Thor's ordinary arsenal includes close combat, energy attacks, flight, and a level of output capable of threatening battleships, but the mecha is not inexhaustible: sustained combat drains its core, damage still matters, and Lan Jue's own physical and Discipline condition limits what it can perform. (Chapters 16, 71–90, 131–144, and 179–214)

Thor's Hammer creates a devastating electrical strike and electromagnetic pulse. In DreamNet its disruption disables affected systems for about three seconds, a brief window that Lan Jue coordinates with teammates rather than treating as an automatic victory. Electro-Squall, Thor's Starfall creates seven large detonations in the pattern of the Big Dipper and can devastate a broad battlefield. Both signature moves demand high output and reveal enough of Thor's capabilities that Lan Jue reserves them for decisive moments. His piloting is also tactical: he reads movement patterns, uses feints and oscillation, and can train others because he understands why a maneuver works rather than only executing it by instinct. (Chapters 46–58, 88–91, 179–214, and 268–291)

Thunder essence, purebolt, and Captus

Lan Jue acquires thunder essence as an apparently inert living material from Lyr. Jun Yongye identifies it as the residue of life and protogenic understanding left when empyrean lightning elevates a creature. Lan Jue activates it with protogenic blood and allows it to enter the cracks in his Core. It rounds and reforms the Core, filters Captus' otherwise lethal destructive force, and gradually becomes part of his Discipline. This enables his joining with Captus and deepens his lightning toward a purer, protogenia-laced evolution called purebolt. (Chapters 484, 493–495, and 547–551)

The essence is not an instant grant of mastery. Absorption takes prolonged cultivation, and Jun Yongye estimates that even a Paragon Lan Jue will access only a fraction of Captus' complete power. Captus cuts or collapses reality rather than merely striking matter, channels focused-flow sword intent, and grows stronger as Lan Jue's comprehension and symbiosis improve. Taiji supplies its defensive and redirectional form; Jun Yongye supplies the blade's inherited sword knowledge. The sword's effects are item-derived even though Lan Jue eventually integrates them so closely with his lightning and Domain that they act together. Harmonious Swords

Harmonious Swords is a paired art performed by Lan Jue with Captus and Zhou Qianlin with Demortus. It requires coordination beyond simultaneous attacks: their intentions, spirits, Disciplines, sword methods, and eventually Domains align so that the two blades release a single rainbow force. Qianlin's Ten Thousand Swords supplies innumerable incisive paths, while Lan Jue's focused flow, Taiji control, Five Lightnings, and Captus provide direction and overwhelming force. Their linked Cores and emotional trust are not decorative; later uses explicitly deepen when they act with “two hearts beating as one.” (Chapters 493–495, 594–599, 713–721, 803–810, and 852–878)

The technique can kill opponents above either wielder's individual rank, sever an alien avatar from external support, attack both body and soul, and guide the interaction of all four Banishing Blades. It is also highly draining before their Paragon breakthroughs, and discord or incomplete control would undermine it. Lan Jue sometimes overlays it with Boundless Starlight, but doing so increases the cost. After both wielders reach Nirvana their fusion becomes more complete, and their Taiji sword form can neutralize force that the direct rainbow strike does not safely overpower. Its highest coordinated expression helps establish the Banishing Strategy, though that formation depends equally on the other two sword bearers and vast external sacrifice. Paragon dharma and Boundless Starlight

Lan Jue ascends as a Paragon during the planetary rescue campaign. His dharma is the Middle Heaven Great Emperor of the North Pole Star of Purple Subtlety, an ancient ruler associated with the stars and the Palm of Five Lightnings. The inheritance is enabled by his lightning Talent, thunder essence, Jue Di's teaching, Captus, disciplined restraint, and traces of ancient immortal power; Lan Jue does not create its full mechanism and initially understands only a fraction of what he has received. He begins at Reflection of Heaven and Earth, advances through Nirvana, and reaches the Infinite during the final Strategy. (Chapters 785–811 and 881–900)

Boundless Starlight creates a Domain in which stellar light feeds Lan Jue's enclosed reality and his protogenia governs its rules. It can suppress an intruder, cut it off from outside support, contain hostile energy or soul-fragments, and automatically call different forms of lightning against targets. Its Palm of Five Lightnings includes All-Heaven Lightning, primordial lightning, turquoise forms, and golden chaotic lightning, the strongest shown. The lightning is particularly effective against corrupt or alien vitality, but the Domain is destructive rather than restorative; Lan Jue relies on Qianlin when purification, healing, or protection from universal protogenia is required. (Chapters 787–810 and 888–901)

Qianlin's Queen of Heaven Domain stabilizes and expands Boundless Starlight, reduces its drain, and later shields Lan Jue from the life-consuming pressure of universal protogenia. Alone, Lan Jue can suppress a stronger alien avatar inside his Domain but does not consistently overpower it; Captus, the Harmonious Swords, or allies are needed against the highest ranks. By the end, his control has increased enough to burn away the alien soul-fragments while preserving nearby human spirit shards. His latest state is Infinite-level, but he chooses not to pursue cultivation in Europa's immortal realm and returns to ordinary life. (Chapters 808–811, 851–900, and 901–903)

• Zhou Qianlin: Lan Jue first mistakes Qianlin for Hera and becomes her reluctant bodyguard. Their enforced proximity, linked Cores, shared battles, and later truth about Hera turn suspicion into a relationship based on conscious choice. They marry after the war and have a son, Lan Zhou.
• Lan Qing: Lan Jue's elder brother is at once his old rival, strategic counterpart, and most dependable family bond. Their guilt over Hera estranges them, but reconciliation lets them fight as equals and bear Captus and Ultus together in the final Strategy.
• Jue Di: Jue Di is Lan Jue's teacher and adoptive father. He teaches him Taiji, disciplines his path to Paragon, and provides the model of immense power deliberately restrained.
• Luo Xianni: Luo Xianni claims Lan Jue as her son and supports him with both fierce affection and her unmatched transference abilities. Her sacrifice in the final battle devastates him, and he helps preserve her surviving spirit.
• Hua Li: Poseidon is Lan Jue's fellow Divine Monarch, closest friend, and repeated battlefield partner. Hua Li publicly defends his character and helps turn personal loyalty into an alliance between Poseidon Group and humanity's defense.
• Chu Cheng: Chu Cheng is another Divine Monarch and long-standing sparring partner. Their teasing rivalry rests on deep trust, and their complementary experience helps Lan Jue build teams rather than fight as an isolated prodigy.
• Xiuxiu: Xiuxiu is the senior Amazon, Thor's fellow God-ranked pilot, and one of the people who preserves Lan Jue's home while he is absent. Her final sacrifice protecting Jun'er leaves him with grief he can barely voice.
• Mika: Lan Jue helps Mika suppress Satan's bloodline and supports her decision to reject both the Dark Citadel's exploitation and the Pontiff's persecution. He later backs her choice to rebuild the Citadel on different terms.
• Lin Guoguo: Lin Guoguo serves as Lan Jue's psychic specialist and one of his Amazons. He trusts her perception where his own is too coarse, especially during survivor searches and reconnaissance.
• Ke'er: Ke'er is one of the Amazons and part of Lan Jue's chosen household. Her combat support and daily presence link his life as Zeus to the quieter home he protects.
• Su Xiaosu: Lan Jue rescues the former Moonfiend Empress from Western captivity and offers her a new place among the Amazons and as a Star Division commander, judging her by present choices rather than her pirate past.
• Pharmacist: The Pharmacist becomes Lan Jue's sworn elder sister, tournament companion, fellow commander, and one of the four Banishing Blade bearers. Their trust includes shared care for Jun'er and the recovery of Li Ke.
• Jun'er: Lan Jue accepts Jun'er as his daughter and gives her the family and ordinary childhood her isolation denied her. After the war, she remains one of the children under his care.
• Jin Tao: Lan Jue recognizes determination beneath Jin Tao's poor reputation and subjects him to dangerous but transformative training, helping him become a dependable Star Division fighter.
• Tang Xiao: Tang Xiao is Lan Jue's formal disciple and one of the clearest examples of his belief that persistence and judgment can matter more than an unimpressive beginning.
• Tan Lingyun: Tan Lingyun begins as a suspicious and combative colleague at the NEU. Lan Jue's hidden work as Lei Feng and drillmaster gradually earns her professional respect, even as their temperaments continue to clash.
• Wine Master: The Wine Master is Lan Jue's Council leader, fellow connoisseur, and strategic elder. Lan Jue repeatedly tests his patience, but trusts his judgment and fights to preserve the Avenue he represents.
