Mika

Mika is one of the four women who staff Zeus' Jewelry Store and serve as Lan Jue's trusted Amazons. Red-haired, forceful, and fiercely protective, she is the strongest of the four in raw Discipline potential for much of the story. Her title, the Stygian Succubus, is not simply a combat name: it identifies her as the intended inheritor of the Dark Citadel's ruling power, a legacy she initially fears will destroy her personality. Lan Jue's protection gives her the freedom to refuse that inheritance until she can confront it on her own terms. Lan Jue treats her as family rather than property, and Mika answers that trust with uncompromising loyalty.

Her history is shaped by two related but distinct choices. As a young woman, she flees the Dark Citadel because she believes its demonic power corrupted her father and may do the same to her. Near the end of the war, after Satan dies, she voluntarily returns to preserve and reform the institution he built. The latter decision is not a reversal of everything she feared: she promises to keep the Citadel from descending into chaos and insists that accepting its burden must be her own work. The novel leaves her alive and carrying out that undertaking, but does not confirm that she has assumed Satan's title or reached Paragon level. (Chapters 34, 80–91, 264–265, 804–810, 881)

Biography

A guarded life on Skyfire Avenue

Mika is first seen as the red-haired saleswoman at Zeus' Jewelry Store, where the elegant public showroom conceals a fortified underground base. She is already more than a shop attendant. When thieves target a Mundus crystal, she answers them with a crimson flame aura described in that scene as fire devoid of heat, making clear that the store's staff are combatants even before later uses establish Hellfire's destructive heat. She and the other Amazons also operate Zeus-1, dividing duties that would normally require a much larger crew. Mika handles ship controls and navigation and brings an aggressive confidence to pursuit and combat. These roles establish the pattern of her service: she can welcome a customer at the counter, defend the premises, or deploy off-world at Lan Jue's command. (Chapters 34, 57, 72–77)

The danger attached specifically to Mika becomes clear during the Moonfiend operation. The Pontiff's Castle forces do not merely want to defeat Lan Jue; they try to take her. Raphael recognizes her as the Stygian Succubus, while Michael identifies her as the woman destined to inherit the Dark Tower. Mika is willing to face Michael rather than let Lan Jue continue paying for her escape, but Lan Jue incapacitates her and fights in her place. The other Amazons help hold back the archangels until he defeats Michael and carries Mika away. The rescue defines their bond without making her passive: her first impulse is to bear the cost herself, while his refusal affirms that she has the right to remain free. (Chapters 80–91)

Back on Skyfire Avenue, that protectiveness flows both ways. Mika joins the others in monitoring Lan Jue's trainees, hurries toward Taihua when she believes he may be in danger, and treats knowledge of his whereabouts as a family responsibility. Her statement that she might bury herself with him if he died is extreme, but consistent with the Amazons' shared history of being given refuge and a home. She is neither an employee with ordinary professional distance nor an indiscriminate follower: her loyalty rests on the life Lan Jue helped her reclaim. (Chapters 112–153)

Learning to contain Hellfire rather than deny it

Lan Jue regards Mika as the Amazon with the greatest capacity, but also the one facing the gravest internal danger. Her Hellfire is linked to the blood and power of the Prince of Devils. If it spirals out of control, he believes it could erase the kindhearted Mika he knows. Simply repressing it is not a permanent solution, so her training is designed to release and cultivate it under control. In exercises she surrounds herself with red and gold flame, moves with explosive speed, and shapes fire into orbs, a lotus, a wall or column, and a great burning hand. Cutting blade effects in the same training come from Xiuxiu's Asura Blade transformation, not Mika's Hellfire. The governing limit remains that Mika must command the inherited power instead of allowing it to command her. (Chapters 112–128)

By the Northern Army training period, Mika and Lin Guoguo have reached ninth level, and Mika is described as the strongest Amazon. Her development as a mecha pilot began late because the Dark Citadel had concentrated on preparing her for succession, yet she has become a Sovereign-class pilot. That leaves a deliberate imbalance in her skills: she possesses exceptional Adept potential and powerful close-range offense, but is less accomplished in mecha than Xiuxiu, whose god-ranked piloting began in childhood. Mika's strength is therefore substantial without being universal, and the threat of losing herself prevents Hellfire from functioning as consequence-free power. (Chapter 270)

Confronting Satan and the unresolved family past

Mika's account of the Dark Citadel complicates the simple idea that she fled an evil father. She remembers Satan as originally fair, merciful, and peace-loving, a man who sought mastery over darkness so that his daughters would not have to grow up under it. The demonic blood instead drove him mad, and he killed Mika's mother. Mika's sister Mina escaped, promising to bring their father back, but later returned dead with signs of Satan's power. Believing Satan had killed both mother and sister, Mika fled because she feared the same inheritance would make her into him. She did not seek to abandon discipline; she sought a way to control what she regarded as a curse. (Chapter 264)

When Satan comes to reclaim her, Mika finally makes that history explicit. He admits killing his wife during his madness and says the shock awakened him, after which he spent twenty years mastering the power. He apologizes, but denies killing Mina. The confrontation does not determine who killed Mina, and Mika's earlier belief is therefore not converted into a proven accusation or a resolved mystery. Satan ultimately respects her decision to stay with Lan Jue and asks Lan Jue to protect her. Mika's tears afterward show the force of the encounter, but the text does not present the conversation as erasing her mother's murder or fully reconciling father and daughter. (Chapters 264–265)

Her subsequent life remains with Lan Jue. She helps assess and train students, supports the household, and takes operational posts aboard Zeus-1 and on missions connected with the Star Alliance and the Shattered Starfields. In shipboard actions she is particularly valuable at the controls: under pressure from alien pursuit, she and Su Xiaosu keep Zeus-1 maneuvering and functioning. These duties are less spectacular than her Hellfire, but they demonstrate why Lan Jue relies on the Amazons as a complete field team rather than treating them as ceremonial guards. (Chapters 269–341, 620–626)

Alien war and a daughter's return to the Citadel

As the alien conflict expands, Mika continues to combine combat readiness with spacecraft work. She helps operate Zeus-1 during reconnaissance, rescues, and the wider counteroffensive, while remaining part of the close circle responsible for Lan Jue's safety. The war also brings her abandoned family history back into the present. When the fighting threatens Heaven's Light, Mika begins to raise Satan's danger, but Lan Jue interrupts and orders Zeus-1 to change course himself. Her concern is explicit even though the operational decision is his. Years of separation and hatred have not removed that concern; it is not the same as declaring his past forgiven, but evidence that their relationship remained emotionally unfinished. (Chapters 620–626, 757–758, 804)

Satan dies while protecting the human Paragons. His final arrangements acknowledge Mika's autonomy more clearly than his earlier attempt to reclaim her: if she chooses to take the Dark Citadel, the Terminator is to support her claim; if she refuses, the Hades bloodline may assume control. He leaves his demonic blade, Archfiend, to his last surviving daughter and asks that she be kept safe. Mika thus receives an opportunity and a burden rather than an inescapable command. His death ends any chance for further resolution between them and makes her response a decision about the living organization as much as about her father. (Chapter 806)

Mika chooses to leave Lan Jue's side and return to the Dark Citadel. She says that she will maintain and reestablish her father's life's work, but promises not to lose herself and to keep its darkness on a righteous course rather than allow it to become chaotic. She declines Lan Jue's offer of direct help because the task must be hers. This is the decisive difference between the succession prepared for her in childhood and the one she accepts as an adult: the first was imposed while her power was uncontrolled, whereas the second is chosen after years of cultivation and independent service. The narration treats Satan's death as a catalyst for her accepting this part of herself, but gives no later proof that all dangers in the inheritance have disappeared. (Chapter 810)

Successor, mourner, and survivor

Mika's departure does not end her connection to the Amazons. After Xiuxiu's death, she returns to mourn with the household and urges Lan Jue not to lose himself in grief. Her presence joins two strands of her identity: she now represents the Dark Citadel, yet she remains a member of the family built around Zeus' Jewelry Store. That continuity matters because leading the Citadel is not portrayed as a return to captivity or a rejection of Lan Jue. It is the new responsibility made possible by the freedom and self-control she developed while away. (Chapters 879–881)

Her last direct appearance places her with representatives of the Dark Citadel. She is alive and has returned after announcing her intent to rebuild or reorganize it following Satan's death. The novel does not show the reform completed, grant her a new formal title, or establish that she has become a Paragon. Her final status is consequently best understood as the acknowledged successor beginning that undertaking, with its outcome beyond the novel's ending. (Chapter 881)

Appearance and personality

Mika is marked visually by her red hair and by the red or red-gold fire that accompanies her Discipline. She is confident, direct, and more openly fierce than the soft-spoken Xiuxiu. On missions that confidence can become aggression, particularly when she is at Zeus-1's controls or believes the household is threatened. Her warmth is nevertheless as important as her ferocity. Lan Jue's fear is not that Mika is secretly cruel, but that uncontrolled demonic power could destroy the fundamentally kind person she has fought to remain. (Chapters 34, 57, 72–74, 113)

Loyalty is her dominant interpersonal trait, though it is not identical to obedience. She offers herself rather than let Lan Jue suffer for protecting her, worries intensely when he disappears, and later leaves his service when duty to the Dark Citadel demands an independent path. Her treatment of Satan is similarly resistant to a single label: she hates what he did, retains concern for him, grieves him, and accepts stewardship of his legacy without claiming his crimes were justified. These tensions make her final choice an exercise of judgment rather than submission. (Chapters 80–91, 152–153, 264–265, 804–810)

Hellfire and demonic inheritance

Mika's Discipline, Hellfire, produces crimson or red-gold energy that she can use as an aura, concentrated flame, or broad grasping force, with supported forms including orbs, a lotus, a wall or column, and a burning hand. It supplies speed and destructive force as well as heat, although its first aura manifestation is explicitly described as heatless. Her inherited demonic blood gives her unusually high potential, and Satan's plans identify her as capable of carrying the Dark Citadel's core power. Its central limitation is psychological and spiritual control: overuse or a loss of command risks changing who she is. Her cultivation therefore focuses as much on restraint and regulated release as on increasing output. (Chapters 57, 112–128)

Combat, piloting, and operations

Mika reaches ninth level and is the strongest Amazon in raw Adept terms during the training period. She is also a Sovereign-class mecha pilot despite starting later than her companions. Aboard Zeus-1 she can navigate, operate flight systems, and respond under pursuit, making her effective in deployments where a small crew must perform many jobs. The novel does not establish that she becomes a Paragon, and her mecha ranking remains below Xiuxiu's god-ranked standard. (Chapters 72–77, 270, 620–626)

• Lan Jue: Lan Jue protects Mika's freedom from both the Pontiff's Castle and the Dark Citadel, then helps her cultivate power without surrendering her identity. She regards him as boss and family, but her final departure demonstrates that their trust allows her to choose a separate duty.
• Satan: Mika's father murdered her mother while corrupted by demonic power and later tried to bring Mika home. He denies killing Mina, accepts Mika's refusal, and eventually leaves succession to her choice. Mika grieves him and preserves his institution without absolving the established violence in their history.
• Xiuxiu, Lin Guoguo, and Ke'er: The other Amazons are Mika's fellow attendants, ship crew, combat partners, and chosen family. Xiuxiu's death draws Mika back from the Citadel to mourn and support Lan Jue.
