Jun’er

Jun’er is the daughter of the Pharmacist and Li Ke, and the adopted daughter of Lan Jue. Born blind after Occisus harmed her mother during pregnancy, she inherits the former Clairvoyant’s Eye of Tomorrow and becomes Skyfire Avenue’s young prognosticator. Her physical blindness persists through the end of the supplied corpus; references to what she “sees” later concern perception or prophecy rather than restored eyesight.

Biography

A sheltered child and an adopted father

Jun’er first appears as the Pharmacist’s small, sightless daughter, already comfortable enough with Lan Jue to let him take her hand. Her mother’s responsibilities and the danger of Occisus keep their lives tightly bounded by the Pharmacist’s shop. Lan Jue begins visiting and caring for Jun’er, and the Pharmacist later agrees to travel to the Great Adept Tournament only because his presence makes bringing her daughter possible. The arrangement gives Jun’er a father figure long before the reasons for her biological father’s absence are disclosed. (Chapters 253, 341, and 391)

At the tournament Lan Jue gives her a psychic-projection helmet. It translates the surrounding spectacle into sensations she can experience despite her blindness, opening a world that had previously extended little beyond the shop. Jun’er delights in the crowds, Poseidon’s performance, and Lan Jue’s victories while protecting his identity from the curious Terminator. The helmet is not a cure: prolonged use is dangerous, so the adults regulate it. Its importance is social and emotional, encouraging the Pharmacist to take Jun’er outside and letting the child build a life beyond isolation. (Chapters 391–397)

Inheriting the Eye of Tomorrow

The source of Jun’er’s blindness is Occisus, the Banishing Blade that afflicted the Pharmacist while she was pregnant. Her mother’s grief and incomplete control caused the weapon’s power to turn inward and affect the unborn child. The injury is therefore prenatal rather than a result of Jun’er’s later clairvoyant powers. A silver crystal eventually appears between her brows as a third eye, marking a different kind of sight rather than repairing her natural eyes. (Chapters 493 and 524)

Near the end of his life, the Clairvoyant passes the title Eye of Tomorrow, his inheritance, and stewardship of Skyfire Museum to Jun’er. He predicts that she will surpass him, but cannot foresee her personal future because she is his successor. Jun’er’s new office consequently comes with both promise and uncertainty: she receives a mature prophetic legacy while remaining a young child who must grow into it. (Chapters 525–527)

The young Clairvoyant in public service

Jun’er continues studying while still unable to see with her eyes. Her teacher explains that blindness may ultimately make her clairvoyant perception clearer, but the claim concerns future insight, not ordinary vision. During a vital-crystal appraisal she carries the Eye of Tomorrow into its internal space and enters first to demonstrate that passage is safe. An alien infiltrator later takes her hostage and steals crystals, showing that neither the astrum nor the Paragons nearby make her invulnerable when an enemy exploits distraction and proximity. By the next Skyfire Council meeting, Jun’er is recognized as the current Clairvoyant and is growing stronger. Avenue leaders intend that Lan Jue will eventually succeed the Wine Master as chairman and that Jun’er will assume the position when she is ready. The plan describes a future succession rather than present command: she already holds the prophetic title, but remains too young to direct the Avenue. (Chapters 700–701)

Warnings that preserve the allied fleet

Jun’er’s first attempt to forecast the large counteroffensive produces no clear result. She is inexperienced, the battle contains too many participants, and the alien home worlds are close to immortality; all three factors cloud the future. When the allied armada later approaches an apparent opportunity, Jue Di supports her with his power and asks her to look again. She perceives the violet planets departing, one world being altered from within, and destructive heat building inside it. The effort leaves her sweating and in pain, illustrating that stronger assistance can extend her reach but does not remove the physical burden. (Chapters 737 and 746–747)

Her warning exposes an alien trap before the human bastions close around the rigged planets. The fleet changes its response and avoids losses that might have shattered cooperation among the Alliances. Jun’er does not personally devise the resulting military plan; her contribution is the critical intelligence on which experienced commanders act. This is the clearest demonstration that her sight can alter events causally even when it remains partial and costly. (Chapters 747–748)

Two fathers and the final battle

Li Ke’s spirit reappears through Ultus near the war’s climax. Though Jun’er cannot see his spectral body normally, she senses his presence and later tells Lan Jue that she “saw another daddy” who was sad and would soon leave. The Pharmacist had asked Lan Jue to pretend to be Jun’er’s returning father when the child was younger, but that protective fiction became a genuine adoptive bond. Jun’er understands more than the adults say aloud and still embraces Lan Jue as her father after perceiving the truth. Li Ke is her biological father; Lan Jue remains her adopted father. Jun’er also contributes directly to the defense of Middle Heaven. Her prophecy and assessment guide Lan Qing’s Terminal Ray to a precise group of elite aliens, and during the later infiltration she creates a protective separation around the combatants so their Paragon-level exchange does not immediately tear the bastion apart. Both feats require help or have strict limits: Lan Qing supplies protection and operates the weapon, while Jun’er cannot maintain the shell for long against the aliens’ Domain. After Monarch’s defeat, the Pharmacist remains with Li Ke in the new immortal realm. Because Jun’er has not reached the Infinite and cannot yet enter, she is left in Lan Jue’s care, with her mother expected to visit. Three years later she is about ten, still described with dim eyes, walking Skyfire Avenue and confidently looking after two younger boys. The epilogue therefore leaves her alive, socially secure, and still blind, with both her clairvoyant vocation and her family continuing in altered forms. (Chapter 903)

Appearance and personality

Jun’er is introduced as a small, pretty child with lively but unfocused eyes. At the tournament her hair is covered by the projection helmet; later she wears a yellow summer dress and bears a silver crystal third eye between her eyebrows. The epilogue describes a roughly ten-year-old girl in a white dress, with her hair in a simple ponytail and dim eyes. No scene in the supplied corpus establishes the return of ordinary sight. She is affectionate, discreet, and unusually composed for her age. She cheers openly for Lan Jue yet refuses to reveal his identity, comforts her mother without demanding explanations, and responds to Li Ke’s appearance with perception rather than panic. Prophetic responsibility adds seriousness without eliminating her vulnerability. Jun’er volunteers information and acts decisively when lives are at stake, but fear, strain, and inexperience remain visible. Adults protect her because she is a child, not because her office is ceremonial; the same scenes show that her decisions can determine the survival of ships and Paragons. Disciplines and abilities

The Eye of Tomorrow

Jun’er inherits the Clairvoyant’s title, astrum, and prognosticating legacy. The Eye of Tomorrow allows her to appraise possibilities, perceive concealed developments, and guide action toward a predicted point. Her forecast of the planetary trap and her assistance aiming Terminal Ray are practical applications: one reveals a strategic future, while the other selects the instant and location at which an attack will matter most. (Chapters 525–527, 746–748, and 846)

Her foresight is neither constant nor infallible. Complexity, the number and strength of involved beings, her youth, and the near-immortal alien worlds can obscure the future. Deep observation produces pain and exhaustion, even when Jue Di reinforces her. The former Clairvoyant’s inability to see Jun’er’s own future also establishes a lineage-specific blind spot rather than proof that she has no destiny. (Chapters 527, 737, and 746–747)

Perception, appraisal, and protection

Blindness does not prevent Jun’er from perceiving spiritual presences. She reaches toward Li Ke’s apparition without ordinary vision and understands enough of the hidden family history to distinguish him from Lan Jue. In the Eye of Tomorrow’s appraisal space she can guide entrants, and aboard Middle Heaven she uses the astrum to separate a destructive battle from the ship. These feats show spatial and spiritual applications beyond prediction, but the protective field yields under sustained pressure and requires stronger Paragons to relocate the fight. The projection helmet is external assistive technology, not part of her Discipline. It gives her sensory access to events but becomes dangerous if worn too long. Likewise, Terminal Ray remains Lan Qing’s bastion weapon: Jun’er’s role is prophetic guidance while he protects her and executes the firing solution. (Chapters 391–395 and 846)

• Pharmacist: Jun’er’s mother, protector, and primary caregiver through the war. Their bond survives the Pharmacist’s grief-driven departure, and they reconcile when she returns.
