Phylactery Stone

The Phylactery Stone is an S-ranked power gem that becomes permanently embedded in Lan Jue’s palm. It does not directly strengthen his Discipline; instead, it stores an immense reserve of energy that he can replenish during cultivation and draw upon when his ordinary reserves are depleted.

History

Absorption during the Taihua aftermath

The stone first appears as a pendant used during emergency treatment after Taihua. While vast forces move through Lan Jue, the gem does not dim. It grows brighter, drinks in his energy, and buries itself almost completely in his palm. The violent power produced by the Fantascia Genetica is safely contained within it, and the stone becomes bound to his life force as though it had always been part of him. (Chapters 144–145, 152)

A reserve for prolonged combat

Lan Jue gradually learns to charge the stone by feeding it energy during daily meditation. The gem’s capacity is so large that he never manages to fill it completely. His first deliberate withdrawal restores him from exhaustion to nearly half strength in seconds, and later withdrawals let him continue fighting after spending most of his normal reserves. During the Great Adept Tournament, opponents misjudge his endurance because they do not know about the reserve embedded in his hand. (Chapters 215, 247, 426, 455)

Useful power with hard limits

The Phylactery Stone remains a reserve rather than a cure-all. It can drastically reinforce Lan Jue’s output and restore energy devoured by Captus, but it does not prevent physical or vital exhaustion from prolonged effort. It also cannot satisfy an effectively limitless demand, neutralize a poison destroying him at the cellular level, or replace the cultivation needed to command greater powers safely. Its last recorded use is another controlled withdrawal after a Binding Blade drains him, with the stone still embedded and still not full. (Chapters 334, 522–523, 579)

Abilities and properties

  • The S-ranked gem absorbs and stores a vast quantity of Lan Jue’s energy without visibly dimming or reaching capacity. (Chapters 145, 215)
  • It can return stored energy rapidly, restoring him to nearly half strength in roughly a dozen seconds during its first recorded withdrawal. (Chapter 215)
  • Because it is embedded in his palm and tied to his life force, the reserve is always available without separate equipment. (Chapters 145, 152)
  • It extends endurance but does not directly enhance his Discipline or eliminate the physical cost of exertion. (Chapters 154, 247)
  • It cannot overcome unlimited energy demand or cure destructive cellular poison. (Chapters 522–523)
