Ke’er — Skyfire Avenue

Ke’er is an attendant at Zeus’ Jewelry Store, one of the women collectively known as Zeus’ Amazons, and a technologically modified Adept rescued by Lan Jue from the Northern Alliance. Her cheerful work at the store conceals a childhood in which Northern researchers replaced much of her body and used a power gem as an artificial Core. Biography

A home at Zeus’ Jewelry Store

Ke’er first appears as the short-haired attendant who welcomes customers to Zeus’ Jewelry Store and opens its private VIP room. Around familiar visitors she is playful rather than ceremonious: she pouts when left alone, talks freely with Xiuxiu, and is visibly excited by the possibility that Lan Jue will teach at the National Eastern University. She also notices changes in his mood. When he disappears on business, she worries that he is unhappy and wants to follow even when no combat role has been assigned to her. The store is therefore more than employment; it is the ordinary home through which she stays connected to the man who rescued her. (Chapters 1, 17, 24, and 36)

The attendants are also Zeus’ Amazons, a name that joins domestic loyalty to a concealed combat identity. Ke’er’s vivacious behavior does not mean that Lan Jue considers her ready for every danger. When he evaluates the Amazons after returning from his Shattered Starfields injuries, before the Taihua trip, he says that her Discipline has exceptional explosive physical force and favors distance, but that she has avoided fully cultivating it because of her history. Ke’er cries at the criticism and then commits to working harder, saying that she wants enough strength to protect him. Ke’er’s early combat training exposes both her power and its deficiencies. Ke’er survived after receiving an S-ranked power gem as an artificial Core and precision military equipment replacing roughly a third of her body. The role suits her Talent’s long-range force and the mechanical integration of her body, but it also answers Lan Jue’s early criticism: instead of releasing power in isolation, she coordinates her output through a platform and crew.
