Seol Jihu

Seol Jihu is the protagonist of The Second Coming of Gluttony, the founder and first representative of Valhalla, and the Brightest Star chosen to oppose the Parasite Queen. He begins as a compulsive gambler who has ruined his relationships and sense of self, but a dying future self's regret gives him a second chance in Paradise. There he develops from a Level 1 Warrior into the first Level 9 Earthling, unites humanity with the Federation, and becomes Gula's Apostle. His story is defined as much by recovery and moral choice as by power: again and again, he must learn that protecting people requires building institutions and trusting companions, not merely sacrificing himself.

Biography

The Golden Stamp and a Second Chance

As a child, Seol possessed eyes that perceived choices and danger as colors, an ability someone close to him praised as beautiful. When the colors disappeared, his disciplined interest in gambling became an addiction. He exhausted his savings, accumulated debt, stole and lied to his family, and exploited Yoo Seonhwa, later revealed as Baek Haeju, even losing the apartment deposit that secured their life together. By the time she finally cut him off, his parents and siblings had also rejected him. The story's second chance begins when the feelings of a Seol who dies in a ruined future Paradise are sent backward: the present Seol cannot remember that life as fact, but its grief reaches him as an overpowering dream and gives weight to the possibility of changing course. (Chapters 1–2)

Kim Hannah, who has watched his decline while waiting for a final opportunity to recruit him, offers him entry into the Neutral Zone. Seol initially treats the invitation with the suspicion and self-interest of a gambler, but the Gold Stamp and a series of “Necessary Boxes” awaken his dormant perception as the Nine Eyes. Its first colors let him distinguish ordinary choices from escalating danger, while the golden command associated with his future self points him toward the choices that matter most. He resists Kim Hannah's preferred contract, joins Gula instead, and deliberately gives his full name—“Seol Jihu”—rather than the truncated “Seol” he had been using. The choice marks a first attempt to reclaim the person he had abandoned. (Chapters 5–19)

Seol enters Paradise as a Level 1 Warrior and refuses Sinyoung's protection, accepting the uncertainty of an independent path. During Carpe Diem's Forest of Denial expedition, the Nine Eyes directs him toward a corpse whose pendant others would have treated as loot. He returns it to its owner’s grave, chooses respect over profit, and discovers that recovering his self-respect matters more than maximizing a reward. When the expedition is trapped near Arden Valley, he then volunteers for the most dangerous part of Ian Denzel's plan, drawing most of a Parasite horde away from the fortress and trusting the others to finish the defense. The mission earns him the group's confidence, and he joins Carpe Diem not simply because it offers work, but because its members give him a place where courageous choices can begin replacing the habits that destroyed his life. (Chapters 23–32)

The Banquet and the Dissonant Wish

Paradise rewards Seol quickly, but his early growth exposes another form of compulsion. He advances as a mana-using spearman, trains under Jang Maldong and Agnes, and accepts punishing regimens with the same capacity for fixation that once sustained his gambling. This time the fixation produces skill, yet his mentors repeatedly warn that effort without judgment can still consume him. He learns to circulate mana, develops Flash Thunder and Mana Spear, and begins integrating the speed of the Festina Earring with his footwork. His immediate motive is to stop being the least capable member of Carpe Diem, but the deeper change is relational: he wants strength because people have begun to trust him, and being unable to answer that trust frightens him more than physical pain. (Chapters 33, 50, 55–59)

Inside the Banquet, Seol's role expands from promising fighter to leader. He works with Kazuki Ayase, Hao Win, and Seo Yuhui to keep divided participants alive, accepts responsibility for plans that cannot satisfy every faction, and continues making decisions after deaths and dissent erode his confidence. Rather than treating weaker entrants as disposable competitors, he tries to unite the majority and minority groups and creates opportunities for them to survive together. His decisions are imperfect and emotionally costly, but they establish the pattern that later defines Valhalla: Seol wins loyalty less through rank than through a visible willingness to share danger, listen to expertise, and stake himself on outcomes affecting people beyond his own team. (Chapters 60–70)

The Banquet's final trial makes him an executioner and shows him visions of crimes its candidates may commit. Seol kills those who have already crossed the moral line he recognizes, but refuses to execute an uncondemned man solely because the vision predicts that he may become a “Heaven-Slaughtering Star.” He argues that a foreseen effect is not immutable: change the causes surrounding a person, and the result can also change. The gods' Dissonant Wish had turned judgment into fatalism, and his refusal restores the trial's intended distinction between present responsibility and possible destiny. It also transforms the Nine Eyes, opening colors that concern choice, fate, and evolution. More importantly, Seol articulates the ethic behind his own second chance—people must answer for what they do, but a terrible future does not erase their capacity to choose differently. (Chapters 70–71)

Arden Valley and the Fortress War

After the Banquet, Seol recruits and trains while the Parasites identify him as the star capable of overturning their victory. Seo Yuhui exchanges the Flower of Soma for his holy proofs and two Divine Elixirs; its anti-evil lightning takes root in his dantian and gives his mana a property especially destructive to undead and Parasites. Jang Maldong's training forces him to harmonize power with a body that can withstand it. Flash Thunder can produce explosive speed and force by imbuing mana with lightning, while the Festina Earring and Flash Step multiply his acceleration, but none removes inertia or bodily limits. Seol enters the Arden campaign with extraordinary burst potential and equally extraordinary ways to injure himself. (Chapters 72–82)

When the Seven Armies attack Arden Valley, Seol fights as both a tactical spearhead and a symbol around whom soldiers rally. His anti-evil energy disrupts Parasite bodies and the Hydra's control, while the Nine Eyes helps him select narrow openings amid enemies beyond his rank. He reverses the normal flow of his movement techniques to change direction at impossible speed, chains Flash Thunder and Flash Step, and repeatedly accepts damage to reach decisive targets. These are not effortless victories: the reversals tear muscles and strain circuits, and stronger creatures can shatter his defensive artifacts. The campaign demonstrates the characteristic trade of his combat style—he converts endurance and injury into a moment when a precise thrust can matter. (Chapters 84–90)

Against Undying Diligence, Seol's Future Vision briefly lets him experience the technique of the Level 7 Highlander he might become. He uses Ethereal Shift and an inherited thrust to impale the Army Commander, then combines the lightning rooted in his mana with the Sacred Empress's holy water so the supposedly reviving enemy can be destroyed. The victory saves the fortress and earns him the title Haramark War Hero, but it leaves his body ruined and nearly kills him. Seo Yuhui and the Federation spend weeks restoring him. The consequence sharpens the contradiction at the center of his heroism: he has become strong enough to protect thousands, yet still treats his own survival as negotiable, forcing those who love him to pay the cost of bringing him back. (Chapters 91–95)

Inheritance, Loss, and the Pagoda of Dreams

Jang Maldong responds to Seol's near death by sending him back to Earth, where physical recovery cannot conceal the life he has avoided repairing. Seol has come to prefer Paradise partly because it rewards effort visibly, whereas family reconciliation offers no rank, clear enemy, or guaranteed result. Conversations with Phi Sora and the accumulated calls he has ignored force him to recognize that returning to Paradise too quickly would be another escape. He makes hesitant contact with home and begins confronting the gap between the celebrated war hero and the son, brother, and former partner who caused lasting harm. Progress is uneven, which keeps the recovery credible: courage in battle does not instantly confer the patience or humility needed on Earth. (Chapters 96–99)

His advancement to Level 5 Lance of Nemesis fuses Future Vision with the Nine Eyes into Future-Gauging Nine Eyes. The left-side warning colors remain, while blue, indigo, and violet reveal decisive choices, fate-pioneering opportunities, and the potential for stellar evolution. Gula explicitly warns him not to turn foresight into blind faith, because the future has already changed. His Nemesis class likewise encodes consequence: Misfortune-delivering Curse Spear distorts causality to burden a target but returns an equivalent price to the user, while Punishing Vengeance Spear answers damage already suffered. The class suits a man learning that neither foresight nor power exempts him from costs. (Chapter 100)

Seeking funds to turn Carpe Diem into an organization, Seol accepts Flone's offer of the Rothschear family's hidden inheritance and leads an expedition into the Pagoda of Dreams. He does so despite ominous warnings because wealth can give his companions an independent future and because the estate contains the sacred Spear of Purity. The expedition demands negotiation, discipline, and resistance to the Pagoda's dream-borne curse rather than brute force alone. Seol secures the inheritance, earns the spear spirit's conditional approval, and returns with the resources needed to build something larger than a mercenary team. His renewed training afterward develops Sword Qi and refines his existing skills, but the more important inheritance is responsibility: Flone has entrusted him with her family's legacy, and he chooses to spend it on a shared institution. (Chapters 104–124)

Eva, Valhalla, and a New Recruit

Seol moves Carpe Diem to Eva with an openly political plan. The city is weakened by a corrupt Royal Council and organizations that profit from the royal family's powerlessness; he intends to make it a fortress, restore cooperation with the Federation, and create a durable center of exchange. Kim Hannah tells him that strength alone cannot accomplish this and makes him study Eva's law and factions. When he encounters foreign-race captives being abused in an illegal slave operation, anger gives his lessons an immediate target. He gathers a small force, invokes the law instead of merely starting a private feud, breaks the cages with the Spear of Purity, and begins dismantling the coalition that has normalized the trade. (Chapters 124–127)

The campaign overturns Eva's entrenched organizations and removes councilors who treated the throne as a tool. Seol does not seize royal authority for himself; he makes Charlotte Aria and the royal family institutional partners, then transforms Carpe Diem into Valhalla. The new name formalizes a shift already underway: he is no longer only a fighter taking missions but the representative of an organization whose actions reshape a city. Kim Hannah handles administration and diplomacy while Seol supplies legitimacy, combat power, and a standard members can rally around. Their division of labor also exposes his limit as a founder—he can set a moral direction and make decisive interventions, but the organization survives because he delegates the patient work he is least suited to perform. (Chapters 128–134)

Seol then uses another Gold Stamp to invite Eun Yuri, a mage connected to the alternate future whose regret began his second chance. He supervises her unusual Neutral Zone with Phi Sora, gives her room to solve trials in her own way, and recruits her along with other promising entrants. The act closes an early circle: the opportunity Kim Hannah once offered him becomes something he deliberately extends to another person whose future can still change. At the same time, his tendency to disappear into training leaves Kim Hannah and Valhalla's officers carrying much of the organizational burden. His growth as a leader therefore does not erase his obsessive habits; it creates people and structures capable of correcting them. (Chapters 135–137)

The Spirit Realm and Tigol Fortress

When the Federation asks humanity to help restore the dead World Tree, Seol gives Seo Yuhui a recovery treasure he could have retained and commits Valhalla to the mission. He offers the seed and nutrient needed for rebirth, follows clues from Eun Yuri's inherited knowledge, and uses Gula's guidance to locate a path into the Spirit Realm. The expedition's aim is strategic—restoring the World Tree can constrain the Parasites—but Seol also treats the Federation's survival as worthy in itself. He assigns formations, relies on specialists to interpret the unfamiliar realm, and carries responsibility for the party rather than confusing leadership with solitary action. (Chapters 138–144)

The Spear of Purity and the anti-evil property of Seol's mana let him destroy will-o'-wisps and other corrupting forces threatening the seed. When Twisted Kindness intervenes, Little Chick reveals its phoenix form and the expedition's allies fight to buy the World Tree time to awaken. Seol duels enemies whose divinity exceeds mortal power, using Intuition to anticipate Ethereal Shift and combining aerial movement, formless technique, and the spear's independent protection. His contribution matters because it fits into a larger mechanism: the World Tree's restrictions, the Federation's forces, the expedition's specialists, and Little Chick's intervention all limit opponents no single Earthling could defeat. (Chapters 145–149)

At Tigol Fortress, Seol confronts Sung Shihyun, a gifted spearman who accepted the Parasites' power and embodies the path Seol might have taken if talent and resentment had replaced accountability. Seol survives their exchanges and helps force the Parasite Queen herself to retreat after she descends through the stolen Nest's divinity. Victory restores the Spirit Realm and turns the human-Federation relationship into a genuine alliance, though it leaves severe casualties, including Seo Yuhui's critical wounds. The campaign enlarges Seol's reputation from human war hero to Federation savior, but it also confirms that the conflict cannot be won by isolated expeditions; the societies he is trying to protect must change enough to fight together. (Chapters 149–153)

The Path of the Soul and Humanity's Reform

After Tigol, Seol's companions confront the way he repeatedly rushes from one crisis into the next. Kim Hannah names his attachment to Paradise as another addiction, and Jang Maldong forces a vacation on him. On Earth, Seol begins the less spectacular work of repair: calling his mother, choosing gifts, acknowledging the pain he caused, and approaching his family without demanding immediate forgiveness. The process teaches him that regret is not repayment and that good intentions cannot set the injured party's timetable. It also makes his protective motive less abstract. He is no longer seeking strength only because battle gives him purpose; he is trying to become someone who can remain present in both worlds. (Chapters 153–160)

Promoted to Level 7 Star Seeker, Seol enters the Path of the Soul and meets Black Seol Jihu, the alternate self whose experience has repeatedly reached him through Future Vision. Black Seol strips away artifacts and borrowed shortcuts, trains his body and technique through repeated death, and blinds him so that Intuition must become perception rather than a warning. Seol achieves Heart and Soul as One, Perfect Harmony, and Pinnacle-rank Intuition, making mana follow intent with far less delay. He continues alone for 2,508 subjective days and repeats the trials more than ten thousand times. Yet he refuses merely to copy Black Seol's Seamless Sublimity, choosing to develop a path that belongs to the life and relationships he actually has. (Chapters 161–165)

Completing the path gives him the Godslaying Authority and qualifies him for Gula's Executor trial: reforming humanity so it stops feeding the Parasites through corruption and betrayal. When collaborating organizations strike Valhalla, Seol has enough power to annihilate them, but uses investigation, contracts, selective force, and public accountability instead. He distinguishes leaders who knowingly sold people out from members who can still choose differently, allows compliant organizations a route back, and destroys or punishes those that persist. Working with Charlotte's Royal Oath and the Federation settlement, he turns Eva into the fortified center he had envisioned. This reform applies the Banquet lesson at a societal scale—change the causes that produce betrayal, while holding actual betrayers responsible. (Chapters 166–174)

The Imperial Oath Expedition

Humanity's reform enables an alliance and an Imperial Oath that can regulate the settings Earthlings have abused, but the Parasites create a diversion around the stele needed to complete it. Seol joins the expedition as its principal defender. The Nine Eyes warn him of extreme danger, and he nevertheless takes the Harmonia Magic Square as a last resort. When the party is divided and he realizes that the Queen's true target is him, he stays behind to draw the Army Commanders away from the stele and his companions. The decision is tactically rational—it preserves the oath and twenty lives—but also repeats his deepest flaw: he assumes the burden of dying without allowing those who love him an equal voice in the choice. (Chapters 174–180)

Seo Yuhui returns rather than accept the safety he tried to arrange for her. As the battle becomes impossible, Future Vision lets Black Seol take control and apply the accumulated experience of the ruined timeline. He deceives the Army Commanders, protects the stele, and uses the Harmonia Magic Square to answer the Queen's injected divinity with Absolute Evil. Reversing the reverse-flow neutralizes the opposed powers, but catastrophically distorts Seol's circuits. The feat demonstrates both the mechanism and limit of his inherited advantage: Black Seol can supply decisions and technique, but the present body must still pay for every force it channels. (Chapters 180–186)

Seol continues fighting for more than twelve days, long enough for all twenty companions and the Imperial Oath to reach safety. Exhausted, maimed, and hallucinating, he attempts one final ascent before dying. Flone retrieves his body, the Spear of Purity, and Little Chick's egg and drags them home. The victory changes Paradise even in his absence, because the oath and the alliances he built endure; his death does not erase the system created around him. On Earth, however, the loss of Paradise's memories leaves him physically and psychologically shattered. His companions must now answer his sacrifice with their own effort, proving that the trust he inspired can carry him when he is no longer capable of carrying anyone. (Chapters 186–189)

Return of the Star and the Final War

Teresa Hussey and Yun Seora secure two Royal Oaths for Seol's resurrection, and Roe Scheherazade's final change of heart supplies one of them. A Divine Wish then repairs the reversed circuits and removes the conflicting remnants inside him without erasing what his body learned from them. The traces of the Queen's divinity and Absolute Evil contribute to Divine Beginning, a quality of mana beyond ordinary mortality. Seol spends his accumulated contribution to advance through Level 8 to Level 9 Divine Spear, becomes Paradise's first Level 9 Earthling, and completes Gula's trial, receiving the Authorities of Gluttony and Servant as her Apostle. He immediately returns to the battlefield, fatally defeats First Army Commander Sung Shihyun, and destroys Third Army Commander Abhorrent Charity, reversing the despair created by his month-long absence. (Chapters 189–191)

Instead of charging directly into the final battle, Seol accepts a period of preparation. He uses captured divinities and Divine Wishes to accelerate his companions' advancement, reopens the Path of the Soul as a shared training ground, and teaches skills he once acquired alone. With Little Chick, he refines the Spear of Purity's arts and develops Trinity Harmony into a system that joins body, mana, mind, and weapon. This preparation shows a decisive change in how he understands power. The Brightest Star remains the coalition's strongest fighter, but he invests resources in making everyone around him stronger and gives the final army a foundation deeper than dependence on one hero. (Chapters 192–195)

In the final campaign, Valhalla, humanity, and the Federation operate as a single force. Seol uses his mobility and overwhelming anti-divine offense to break the Parasites' command structure, but companions and allied armies create the openings that carry him to the Queen. His highest spear art, Spear God, exceeds even Trinity Harmony and exacts a physical price, while Divine Beginning lets his attacks erode divinity. At the last confrontation, his thrust evolves and pierces the Queen; Sword Qi Wave Explosion completes the kill. The victory is credited to Seol without being his alone: the comrades who sacrifice themselves, the nations that hold their fronts, and the former rivals who choose cooperation make his decisive strike possible. (Chapters 195–200)

After Paradise

After the war, Seol refuses to treat victory as permission to keep every reward. He yields the defeated Queen's chief divinity to the Seven Sins and uses the resulting possibilities to restore people lost in the campaign. He then brokers the Half Century Treaty, setting rules for relations among humanity, the Federation, and Paradise's kingdoms and warning that anyone who recreates the Parasites' predation will be treated as the next common enemy. He pays personal debts, supports the younger Earthlings whose lives became entangled with his, and resigns as Valhalla's representative. Liberation Day is not named for him because he rejects the attempt to center the world's freedom on one man. (Chapters 201–205)

Seol opens a restaurant in Paradise with Seo Yuhui and Baek Haeju, whose Earth identity is Yoo Seonhwa, and continues repairing his relationships with his family. Peace does not make him solemn: later accounts emphasize his appetite, teasing, romantic confusion, and the childish streak that survived his transformation into a near-divine hero. These episodes also show the practical result of his journey. He can now move between ordinary life and Paradise without using either as an excuse to abandon the other, and his friendships persist after the military hierarchy that first brought them together has dissolved. (Chapters 204–238)

When a hostile otherworldly god later threatens Valhalla, Seol returns as an ally rather than reclaiming command. The Sura Demon Spear tests him by exposing the memories of his hardship, accepts him, and lends destructive power suited to the enemy; Seol combines it with the abilities he retained as Divine Spear to help end the crisis. Once Valhalla is safe, he seeks advice from the people who shaped him and returns to Earth to resume the plans the emergency interrupted. His latest state is therefore neither retirement nor endless war. He is alive, immensely powerful, and willing to answer genuine danger, but his life is no longer defined by the need to flee into the next battle. (Chapters 248–253)

Appearance and personality

Seol is a Korean man approximately 180.5 centimeters tall. At the beginning, addiction and stress have left him worn and poorly conditioned; years of Jang Maldong's training and repeated campaigns develop him into an exceptionally muscular, athletic spearman. His most distinctive feature is his eyes. They were remembered as containing seven rainbow-like colors in childhood, and the awakened Nine Eyes make their appearance change with the information or power he is using. At higher levels, observers describe them as mirror-clear, golden, or lit by an ominous color rather than as ordinary human eyes. (Chapters 2, 5, 123, 161, 195)

His defining positive traits are tenacity, reciprocity, and the ability to act when fear or uncertainty paralyzes others. He follows a Golden Rule—repaying grace and hostility in kind—and his best decisions combine compassion with personal responsibility. He will risk prestige to defend captives, refuse divine authority when its judgment is unjust, and give enemies or corrupt organizations a real opportunity to change before punishing what they actually choose. Leadership gradually makes him more observant of other people's strengths: he learns to rely on Kim Hannah's strategy, Jang Maldong's discipline, specialists' expertise, and the courage of comrades who refuse to remain behind him. (Chapters 28–32, 70–71, 126–134, 169–174)

The same intensity has destructive forms. Gambling addiction becomes an addiction to Paradise, then an obsession with training and self-sacrifice; he often treats his body as a resource that others will simply have to repair. He is short-tempered and fiercely competitive, can become terrifyingly ruthless toward deliberate predators, and sometimes acts before explaining himself. Even after maturing, he remains playful, gluttonous, prone to crude jokes, and strikingly childish in domestic situations. The contrast is intentional rather than a disappearance of growth: Seol becomes capable of “Clear Mirror, Still Water” and Heart and Soul as One without becoming a remote sage. His final maturity lies in regulating his impulses and returning to his relationships, not in losing the unruly personality that makes those relationships possible. (Chapters 50, 126, 157–166, 191–195, 204–253)

Abilities and class

Seol begins as a Level 1 Warrior, develops through mana-oriented spear classes, becomes the Level 5 Lance of Nemesis, and advances to Level 7 Star Seeker after the Arden, Pagoda, and Eva campaigns. His death and resurrection produce the final leap: he passes through Level 8 Saint to Level 9 Divine Spear, the first Earthling to reach that level. His role combines close-range spear mastery, explosive movement, ranged mana attacks, exceptional perception, anti-evil power, and divine Authorities. Its recurring limitation is the body and judgment of the user. His strongest techniques consume enormous mana, damage his circuits or flesh, or require precise timing; foresight can mislead if treated as destiny, and causal attacks can return their price to him. (Chapters 23, 100, 123, 161, 190, 195)

Future-Gauging Nine Eyes

The Nine Eyes originate in Seol's childhood color perception and awaken when the Necessary Boxes reconnect him to the feelings sent back by his future self. General Observation reads information, while the left-side colors grade danger from green through yellow and orange to red. The golden command conveys the future self's strongest directive. After the Banquet, the right-side colors concern active possibility: blue identifies a Choice of Destiny, indigo a Fate Pioneering opportunity, and violet Stellar Evolution. Future Vision originally lets him experience scenes or techniques from the failed future; once fused with the Nine Eyes, the overall ability becomes Future-Gauging Nine Eyes. (Chapters 2, 5, 24, 71, 91, 100)

The ability is a decision aid rather than omniscience. A danger color describes the situation Seol is observing, not a mandatory command, and circumstances can change after he reads it. Visions may arrive as dreams, symbolic fragments, or embodied experience whose meaning he must infer. Gula warns him that the future is no longer fixed and that relying on the eyes without reasoning can create a new failure. His most advanced use therefore combines them with Intuition and acquired judgment: he considers the warning, investigates its cause, and sometimes enters a red situation because he has identified what must be protected. (Chapters 24, 70–71, 100, 138–143, 174–180)

Spear technique and combat arts

Jang Maldong builds Seol's foundation through stance, thrust, strike, cut, footwork, and endurance training. Black Seol later strips away artifacts and forces those fundamentals toward Perfect Harmony, in which body, technique, and mind cease obstructing one another. By Level 9, the basic spear forms have reached extreme mastery, and Trinity Harmony encompasses One With Spear, Flying Spear, Formless Spear, Mind Spear, Limitlessness, and Thousand Stream Convergence. These arts let him control the spear at range, attack without an obvious material trajectory, compress many possibilities into one point, and transition between physical, mental, and mana-driven offense without delay. (Chapters 55–59, 80–93, 161–165, 190–195)

Sword Qi and Sword Qi Wave extend cutting force beyond the weapon; their reinforced and explosive forms detonate the energy after penetration. Mana Spear creates one or multiple ranged projectiles, while Mutilation releases a destructive storm of spear force. Ethereal Shift changes position on a deceptive rhythm, and Aerial Movement gives true high-speed flight after his Level 9 advancement. Spear God stands above Trinity Harmony as the Spear of Purity's seventh art. It allows a decisive, divinity-piercing attack at the cost of extreme physical strain, so even Seol's post-resurrection body coughs blood after using it. (Chapters 85–93, 122–123, 145–152, 190, 195–200)

Lightning, movement, and perception

The Flower of Soma roots sacred anti-evil lightning in Seol's dantian. Flash Thunder drives this lightning through attribute-less mana to multiply speed and striking power; Reinforced Circuit improves the paths that carry it, and Thousand Thunder develops the principle into a higher-order discharge. Festina and Flash Step can stack additional acceleration, while Grand Cosmic Shift redirects force and Hell Severing converts movement into a killing advance. The combination is especially effective against Parasites, undead, and hostile divinity because it attacks both the vessel and the corrupting power sustaining it. (Chapters 80–93, 145–152, 161, 179–190)

Acceleration does not cancel physics. Before his body and circuits mature, Seol cannot brake cleanly, reverse flow safely, or chain maximum output without tearing himself apart. Even later, repeated high-order skills drain mana quickly, and distorted circuits nearly make resurrection impossible. Intuition compensates for some risk by turning trained instinct into immediate perception. Black Seol's blind training raises it to the Pinnacle and teaches Seol to sense attacks without depending on sight; at its peak it interacts with the Nine Eyes and Perfect Harmony, shortening the interval between recognizing danger, choosing an answer, and making mana enact it. (Chapters 30, 80, 91–94, 161–165, 179–190)

Nemesis, Godslaying, and Gluttony

The Lance of Nemesis abilities translate injury and causality into counterattack. Misfortune-delivering Curse Spear forces adverse causality onto a target, but an equivalent misfortune can return to Seol, making reckless use potentially fatal. Punishing Vengeance Spear reflects or magnifies damage he has already received, becoming more formidable against an opponent that has hurt him severely. Berserk raises combat output through rage, while Righteous Heart stabilizes his purpose and resistance. Together these techniques reward his willingness to endure, but they also threaten to turn suffering into a strategy; his later mastery depends on choosing when the price is necessary rather than simply accepting every wound. (Chapters 100, 123, 161, 179–190, 250–251)

Godslaying is the Authority granted through the Path of the Soul and signifies both the capacity and divine trust to kill a godlike being. After completing Gula's Executor trial, Seol becomes her Apostle and receives Gluttony, which lets his power devour or erode hostile energy and divinity, and Servant, through which Flone becomes his fully realized spiritual subordinate. Resurrection also leaves his mana at Divine Beginning: the neutralization of the Queen's divinity and Absolute Evil expands its quality beyond the normal human scale. These powers interact decisively in the final war—anti-evil mana damages Parasite vessels, Gluttony consumes their higher energy, and Godslaying makes a mortal's spear a valid threat to the Queen herself. (Chapters 161–166, 186–190, 195–200)

Even at his latest appearance, Seol is not absolutely invulnerable. Comparable divine beings can endure his counters, unfamiliar laws can limit direct power, and the largest techniques remain costly. He wins the later otherworldly crisis by accepting the Sura Demon Spear's assistance, using allies, and applying old abilities to a new enemy rather than overpowering the problem by status alone. His latest state retains the Level 9 Divine Spear class, Future-Gauging Nine Eyes, Divine Beginning mana, the Authorities of Servant, Godslaying, and Gluttony, and the mature Trinity Harmony system. (Chapters 195, 248–253)

Relationships

  • Gula: Gula accepts the contract Seol chooses over Sinyoung, guides his advancement, and makes him the agent of humanity's reform. Their bond culminates when she names him her Apostle and Star of Gluttony. Seol respects her without surrendering moral judgment to the gods, a balance established by his refusal of the Dissonant Wish. (Chapters 19, 71, 100, 166–174, 190)
  • Kim Hannah: Kim Hannah gives Seol his route into Paradise and becomes his strategist, administrator, and closest institutional partner. She can manipulate and scold him, but she also recognizes his potential before he does; in return, he gives her the authority and resources to build Valhalla into a functioning power rather than a cult of personality. (Chapters 5–23, 124–137, 157–174, 203–253)
  • Jang Maldong: Jang Maldong is Seol's principal teacher and moral disciplinarian. He constructs Seol's physical foundation, refuses to indulge talent without effort, and confronts his addiction to danger. Seol's mature fighting system and willingness to train others both extend Jang's teaching. (Chapters 55–59, 80–93, 121–123, 153–165, 194)
  • Seo Yuhui: Seo Yuhui repeatedly heals Seol, trades him the source of his anti-evil lightning, and returns during the Imperial Oath battle despite his attempt to protect her by exclusion. Their affection develops into an intimate partnership, and she later joins him in running a Paradise restaurant. Their relationship most clearly exposes the human cost of his self-sacrifice. (Chapters 68–84, 91–95, 153–161, 180–190, 204–253)
  • Baek Haeju / Yoo Seonhwa: Seonhwa is Seol's childhood companion and former partner on Earth, while Baek Haeju is the Paradise identity under which she becomes his fellow elite spearman, teacher, and combat partner. He exploited her trust throughout his gambling addiction and cannot undo that harm through heroic deeds elsewhere. Their later relationship therefore joins apology and patience on Earth with martial partnership in Paradise, and she eventually becomes one of his closest domestic companions. (Chapters 2, 55–59, 96–99, 121–123, 157–160, 192–253)
  • Seol Wooseok and Seol Jinhee: Seol's siblings reject him after years of lies, theft, and abuse. Rebuilding contact with them and their parents becomes a measure of recovery distinct from his Paradise reputation. The later family scenes show real warmth returning without pretending the estrangement never happened. (Chapters 2, 96–99, 157–160, 192–238)
  • Teresa Hussey: Teresa first knows Seol as the unusual Earthling who helps defend Haramark and later becomes a trusted political and military ally. She supports his Eva strategy, secures a Royal Oath for his resurrection, and maintains openly romantic feelings for him. Their bond combines teasing intimacy with mutual confidence under existential pressure. (Chapters 30–33, 84–95, 124, 174–190, 204–253)
  • Flone: Flone entrusts Seol with the Rothschear inheritance and accompanies him as a spiritual companion. She retrieves his corpse after the Imperial Oath battle and later becomes the Servant linked to his Apostleship at full strength. Seol gives her loyalty, a place in Valhalla, and a future beyond the grievance that bound her to the Pagoda. (Chapters 28–29, 85–112, 138–190, 195–253)
  • Little Chick: Little Chick is the phoenix Arcus and the spirit associated with the Spear of Purity. It tests and criticizes Seol, protects the Spirit Realm expedition, encourages him at the edge of death, and trains him in the spear's highest arts. Their constant bickering conceals a bond between weapon, teacher, and chosen wielder. (Chapters 108–124, 138–154, 179–200, 248–253)
  • Black Seol Jihu: Black Seol is the accomplished self from the failed future whose regret makes the present story possible. He supplies techniques through Future Vision, takes control during the impossible Imperial Oath battle, and trains Seol in the Path of the Soul. Present Seol honors that inheritance without copying it completely, insisting that a changed life should produce its own answer. (Chapters 1, 71, 91, 161–165, 180–190, 223)
  • Eun Yuri: Eun Yuri carries knowledge associated with the alternate future and becomes the recipient of Seol's Gold Stamp. He acts as recruiter and mentor rather than savior, helping her enter Paradise while respecting her analytical independence. Her arrival symbolizes his decision to pass the second chance onward. (Chapters 135–143, 161–173, 194–253)
  • Parasite Queen: The Queen identifies Seol as the Brightest Star whose growth can overturn her victory and repeatedly reorganizes campaigns around killing or corrupting him. Their conflict becomes personal but remains ideological: she turns people and worlds into vessels, while he wins by creating alliances whose members choose to stand together. (Chapters 84–95, 145–152, 174–200)
  • Sung Shihyun: Sung Shihyun is Seol's martial foil, a brilliant Earthling spearman who accepts the Queen's divinity and treats power as vindication. Seol defeats him after resurrection and rejects his excuses, seeing in him the kind of self-serving path that a gifted but resentful Seol might have followed. (Chapters 149–152, 179–191)

Items

  • Festina Earring: A saintess's reward that binds to its first user. Mana activates a speed boost of roughly 1.5 times for about one minute; charges can be stacked, but acceleration and inertia still tax the wearer, and overuse or reversed application can destroy Seol's body. (Chapters 30, 80–93, 179)
  • Spear of Purity: Castitas's sacred spear, recovered through the Rothschear inheritance and inhabited by the spirit Arcus. It cuts supernatural corruption, channels holy and anti-evil power, develops increasing autonomy in defense of Seol, and contains seven arts culminating in Spear God. It remains his defining weapon through the final war and later crisis. (Chapters 105–124, 145–154, 179–200, 248–253)
  • Proof of Castitas: A holy proof recovered from the tomb during Seol's first Paradise expedition. It serves as evidence of Castitas's undissipated holiness and is later part of the exchange through which Seo Yuhui gives Seol the Flower of Soma. (Chapters 28–30, 82–84)
  • Proof of Devotion: A second ancient holy proof associated with Seol's early rewards. Like the Proof of Castitas, it is transferred to Seo Yuhui in the transaction that roots anti-evil lightning in his mana. (Chapters 33, 82–84)
  • Blessing of the Circum: A golden bracelet that produces three circular defenses against physical, magical, and divinatory or witchcraft attacks. It consumes mana, lasts up to ten seconds, and can be used three times daily without layering activations; sufficiently powerful attacks can break individual shields early. (Chapters 55, 85–88, 108, 179)
  • Ego Te Defendere: Vidalif's nearly invisible World Tree cape, which becomes self-repairing armor with broad physical, magical, status, and disguise protections. Its once-daily Blessing of the World Tree shifts Seol's body and soul into the Spirit Realm for one second, completely nullifying an otherwise lethal attack when timed correctly. (Chapters 154, 179)
  • Flone's Pendant: The pendant first leads Seol to honor the dead rather than loot them and becomes the focus of his bond with Flone. It connects him to the Rothschear legacy and later to the spirit who accompanies and serves him. (Chapters 28–29, 85–112, 190)
  • Divine Elixirs: Rare Neutral Zone rewards capable of permanently raising physical parameters. Seol trades two during the Flower of Soma exchange, saves others rather than spending them immediately, and uses the retained elixirs during final-war preparation when their gains best complement his transformed body. (Chapters 33, 82–84, 194)
  • Gold Stamp: The premium invitation with which Kim Hannah gives Seol access to the Neutral Zone and a private-property advantage there. After earning the means to purchase another, Seol uses a Gold Stamp to invite Eun Yuri, turning the instrument of his own second chance into one for someone else. (Chapters 5–23, 135–137, 186)
  • Harmonia Magic Square: A dangerous balancing artifact won from the Homunculus. It contains Absolute Evil and can mediate incompatible powers through reverse-flow; Seol uses it against the Queen's injected divinity during the Imperial Oath battle. The neutralization succeeds but catastrophically tangles his circuits, contributing to both his death and the Divine Beginning state formed after resurrection. (Chapters 135–136, 178–190)
  • Sura Demon Spear: A divine weapon created by the God of Destruction and saturated with blood and ruin. It probes Seol's memories before accepting him, can transform its form and absorb blood to amplify destructive attacks, and is temporarily wielded against the hostile otherworldly god. It supplements rather than replaces the Spear of Purity. (Chapters 251–253)
