Spear of Purity
The Spear of Purity is a sacred weapon bestowed on the Rothschear family by Castitas, the Goddess of Chastity. It houses the elemental spirit Arcus, later known as Little Chick, and becomes Seol Jihu's defining weapon after he recovers the Rothschear inheritance.
History
The Rothschear inheritance
The spear belonged to the Rothschear house, whose obligation to stand against outside enemies became inseparable from the weapon and its resident spirit. After the family's destruction, it remained within the inheritance hidden behind the Pagoda of Dreams. Flone guides Seol's expedition toward that legacy, but possession alone does not make him the spear's accepted wielder: when he first handles it, the weapon resists his movements and refuses to behave as an ordinary tool. Seol must prove the character and fighting spirit needed for a partnership rather than treating the inheritance as loot. (Chapters 104–112)
Arcus and the stages of awakening
Arcus gradually opens the spear's sealed stages as Seol's skill, commitment, and relationship with the spirit develop. During the Spirit Realm expedition, Little Chick reveals that the spear has been trying to communicate with Seol and uses phoenix feathers to advance its awakening. Each stage gives the weapon greater autonomy and access to more of its sacred power; by the Imperial Oath expedition it can move to protect Seol, return to his hand, and channel techniques that exceed the functions of an inert spear. Little Chick nevertheless criticizes Seol for depending on power he has not fully learned to hear or understand, making the weapon's development inseparable from the wielder's growth. (Chapters 145–153, 163)
Final war and later repair
The Spear of Purity carries Seol through the renewed war against the Parasites. Its sacred nature, Arcus's power, and Seol's anti-evil lightning interact against Army Commanders and the Parasite Queen, while its seventh art, Spear God, provides a divinity-piercing attack at severe physical cost. The weapon is later broken during an otherworldly crisis. Seol gathers its pieces and uses a Divine Wish to restore it; afterward it remains active and visibly willful in his Paradise restaurant, where it reacts to other sentient weapons rather than behaving like an ordinary possession. (Chapters 179–200, 248–253)
Abilities and properties
- The spear carries sacred, anti-evil power suited to destroying supernatural corruption and attacking Parasites or hostile divinity. Its effect combines with Seol's lightning-bearing mana and Godslaying Authority, but the corpus does not reduce that interaction to a single fixed damage rule. (Chapters 145–152, 179–200)
- Arcus can unlock successive stages of the weapon. Later stages increase its autonomy, responsiveness, and access to named spear arts; the seventh art is Spear God. Advancing a stage depends on the spirit-wielder relationship and cannot be purchased as an ordinary class ability. (Chapters 146, 153, 185, 195–200)
- The awakened spear can move independently to protect Seol, return to him after being released, and express preferences through motion and resonance. Arcus remains a character and partner, not property merely because the spirit inhabits the weapon. (Chapters 146, 152, 163, 179, 252)
- Spear God can pierce divinity, but using it places extreme strain on Seol even after his Level 9 advancement; the weapon's power therefore does not remove the wielder's bodily and mana limits. (Chapters 195–200)
