Li Yuanjiao

Li Yuanjiao is the biological son of Li Xuanxuan and Mu Yalu, but Li Chejing’s adoption places him in a different Li lineage from his half-brothers. The arrangement gives him a strong cultivation path without making him the automatic heir to family authority. He becomes the clan’s sword-bearing guardian, joins the Eastern Sea expansion, and finally kills Yu Muxian with the last trace of an ancestral sword intent—at the cost of his own life. (Chapters 135, 237, 414, 575, 610–613)

Biography

A concealed heir learns the family’s machinery

Yuanjiao grows up at the intersection of spiritual talent and family politics. His mother, Mu Yalu, comes from the shaman lineage of Mount Yue, and Xuanxuan values their children for the possibility of spiritual orifices. Yuanjiao has one, giving him a cultivation advantage over his father. At the same time, Xuanxuan and Tongya keep household authority and combat responsibility in other hands; Yuanjiao’s older half-brother Yuanping manages worldly affairs, and Yuanjiao is adopted by Li Chejing into the fourth lineage. This keeps the talented younger son from becoming an uncomplicated rival to the eldest branch. (Chapters 135, 166, 237–238, 414)

That restraint does not make Yuanjiao timid. His early fierceness appears in his wish to reclaim Shamoli’s throne and his anger at the Yu Family, though he knows his third-stage Embryonic Breathing cultivation cannot yet match his enemies. He receives sword instruction from Tongya and Xuanling, masters sword aura early, and studies the difficult River Crossing Torrential Step. His brother Yuanxiu initially welcomes him warmly, making Yuanxiu’s murder a personal loss as well as a threat to the clan. (Chapters 175, 216, 226, 228)

Marriage, swift cultivation and a dangerous inheritance

Yuanjiao’s marriage to Xiao Guiluan strengthens the Li–Xiao alliance, but Guiluan quickly becomes a partner in its own right. She manages family affairs while he cultivates and guards the clan. The arrangement matters as the family turns him into a martial successor: Tongya entrusts him with the Law of Celestial Moon and decades of sword notes, and Yuanjiao takes on the responsibility of using that inheritance for his descendants as well as himself. (Chapters 298–299, 319, 518)

A second obligation comes from the mirror. Yuanjiao receives the command to recover the Mirror Jade Buckle from Yu Muxian. He understands that this duty draws the family toward a dangerous opponent, but the buckle and the Yu feud become intertwined in his calculation. By this time, the losses of Yuanxiu and Tongya have cooled his earlier bloodthirstiness into a more guarded, strategic manner. (Chapters 297, 357)

The devil calamity and a new Foundation guardian

When devil cultivators threaten Moongaze Lake, the Li family must defend its territory without relying openly on every secret it possesses. Yuanjiao and his cousin Li Qinghong learn to fight as a unit: her thunder techniques open opportunities for his sharp sword attacks. During a soul search by Chi Buzi, the seed linking Yuanjiao to the mirror shields him from direct interference with his soul, fate and cultivation, but the protection is not general immunity to weapons or stronger opponents. (Chapters 403, 422, 428)

Yuanjiao’s defense also grows through cultivation. He acquires a captured manual of the Slaughter Jun Kui Light and preserves it as a family inheritance. After reaching Foundation Establishment, he first names his water-based foundation Boundless Ocean. He and Qinghong later discuss Jing Dragon King as its ancient name. Its water constructs and stronger mana help restore the clan’s defenses, but his recovery remains slower than Tongya’s, and the River One Qi Technique is less profound than the higher-grade inheritances used by major sect heirs. (Chapters 429–430, 448–449)

Allies, spirit beasts and contested expansion

Yuanjiao’s dealings with outsiders mix calculation with restraint. He spares the rogue cultivator Tu Longjian, earning a debt that later becomes important. With Kong Tingyun he helps bring down a Hooked Serpent; instead of treating the beast as a weapon alone, he uses the Six Dams Life Matching Unique Technique to bind its spirituality, restore its pearl and give its new life the name Li Wushao. The binding creates an obligation: the demon’s life is tied to Yuanjiao’s, and Wushao remains with the Li family only after Yuanjiao later frees his spirituality. (Chapters 452, 455, 468, 612, 618)

His strength is still vulnerable to gaps in technique and experience. Repeated wounds delay his cultivation, and Situ Mo’s superior methods expose the limits of his defenses. Yuanjiao also tries to preserve sword knowledge for the next generation: he keeps the last trace of Chejing’s stored sword intent inside Qingche, hoping a descendant might someday understand it. The Profound Patterned Bottle gives him spirit mist for concealment, but even that and his cloud plate cannot hide him from every stronger cultivator. (Chapters 473, 513, 518, 523)

An island base and the approach to Green Pine

The family’s move to the Eastern Sea gives Yuanjiao access to water veins and room to cultivate. He helps secure Zongquan Island, uses his connection to aquatic beings to survey its surroundings, and leaves much of its humane local administration to Kongheng and Zong Yan. After three years of seclusion, he reaches the middle stage of Foundation Establishment; his mana doubles and he can summon two water dragons. Yet he knows the progress does not erase the gap between his Grade Three technique and the greater inheritances of sect disciples. (Chapters 529–532, 575)

Returning to Xiao Guiluan, Yuanjiao explains why he believes the family cannot wait. If Yu Muxian reaches Purple Mansion first, the Li family may be destroyed, and Tongya may be able to defeat him without being able to kill him. The immediate clan conflict gives Yuanjiao a public reason to lead the expedition, but recovering the jade buckle is the more pressing private duty. Guiluan fears the danger; Yuanjiao accepts it as a deliberate, high-cost attempt to prevent a greater threat. (Chapters 588–589)

The last strike and the debt fulfilled

Inside the grotto heaven, Yuanjiao studies techniques carved into the Three Drums Wall and copies several methods he can understand. He does not comprehend the final golden script, later revealed as the True Insight Profound Method. With Yu Muxian protected by Tang Shedu and powerful artifacts, Yuanjiao coordinates a sequence of ambushes, calls in Tu Longjian’s debt, and spends the final Celestial Moon Sword Intent stored in Qingche. The point-blank strike kills Yu Muxian and fulfills the central objective, though Yuanjiao privately worries that Tongya would condemn the deception and dishonorable tactics that made it possible. (Chapters 601–603, 610)

The counterattack is fatal. Yu Muxian’s Cloudsunder pierces Yuanjiao’s chest and locks down his mana. Tang Shedu’s halberd then delivers the fatal blow. He cannot escape or be saved; while his life ebbs, Xuanfeng and Xiao Yongling try to sustain him. Yuanjiao uses his final moments to free Wushao’s spirituality, then dies as his Foundation disperses and his body dissolves into rain. Xuanfeng carries the remaining sword and jade bottle home; the seed’s feedback later gives Lu Jiangxian a view of the Three Drums Wall’s golden writing. Yuanjiao’s final plan succeeds in killing Yu Muxian and returning the jade buckle, but it does not spare the family his loss. (Chapters 611–613, 616, 618)

Appearance and personality

Yuanjiao is described as handsome, with straight black hair resembling Mu Yalu’s. Early appearances emphasize a fierce, forceful manner and an ability to think politically. Grief makes him more guarded, not less affectionate: he worries about his half-brothers’ interests, cherishes Guiluan’s partnership and repeatedly acts to preserve the lives and knowledge of his family. His final operation shows both the strengths and cost of that calculation; he accepts deception and his own death, yet remains troubled by the dishonor of the methods he uses. (Chapters 166, 175, 238, 357, 602, 612)

Abilities and cultivation

Yuanjiao’s spiritual orifice and the Profound Pearl Talisman Seed give him rapid early progress. The Profound Pearl Talisman Seeds bind a recipient’s cultivation, fate and soul to the mirror; they can resist a soul search like Buzi’s, but do not protect a body from a lethal Purple Mansion artifact. He receives white Flowing Qi Swallowing Spirit talisman qi at the peak of Embryonic Breathing. That is a blessing rather than a realm, and its remaining force continues through his early Qi cultivation. (Chapters 166, 289, 403)

His River One Qi Technique produces the water-focused Jing Dragon King Foundation. At the middle Foundation stage it doubles his mana and lets him summon two water dragons, giving him a stronger basis for water-vein control and aquatic communication. The advantage has limits: the technique is Grade Three, his recovery is slower than Tongya’s, and major sect heirs cultivate deeper methods. (Chapters 449, 532, 575)

Yuanjiao is a skilled swordsman, but distinctions between his own ability and inherited power matter. Tongya confirms his sword aura; later Yuanjiao personally demonstrates sword qi. Qingche’s stored Celestial Moon Sword Intent, however, belongs to the artifact and originates with Chejing. Yuanjiao releases its final trace in the strike against Yu Muxian; he does not attain personal Sword Intent mastery. His swordsmanship combines with River Crossing Torrential Step and defensive artifacts, but mana depletion and attacks from greater inheritances can still break through. (Chapters 228, 319, 410, 610–611)

He also studies the Six Dams Life Matching Unique Technique and preserves the Slaughter Jun Kui Light for his family. The Six Dams method binds a Hooked Serpent through a six-part ritual; it is costly and makes the creature’s life dependent on its master until the bond is released. Yuanjiao gives his son Xijun the physical copy of the Grade Four cold technique. Xijun later uses the light; Yuanjiao’s role is to pass on this difficult legacy. He also operates artifacts such as the Profound Patterned Bottle, whose concealment is useful but can be overcome by stronger detection and attacks. (Chapters 429–430, 455, 468, 512, 517)
