Li Yuanxiu
The eldest son of Li Xuanxuan, Li Yuanxiu grew into a courteous and capable heir whose judgment helped steady the family during a dangerous period. He was killed after taking custody of a pearl that had been planted as a trap. (Chapters 104, 165–167, 203–211)
Biography
A quiet heir entrusted with family affairs
Yuanxiu was born to Xuanxuan and Madam Dou, and by twelve had shown both a spiritual orifice and early cultivation talent. As a teenager, he was already helping manage the family’s affairs and teaching younger relatives such as Li Yuanjiao the basics of swordsmanship. Xuanxuan worried that the family should entrust its future to his eldest son, but when the younger generation received the mirror seeds, Yuanxiu accepted that the selection had not favored him. He considered the threat posed by the Yu family and swore the Profound Scenery Spiritual Oath, then took on greater responsibility while his father cultivated. (Chapters 104, 164–167, 191)
A cautious strategist in the Mount Yue conflict
As an administrator, Yuanxiu paired strict accountability with caution. He confronted abuses by clan members and handled affairs in the newly established Eastern Mount Yue territory, while recognizing that rules held only when backed by strength. When the Yu family’s plans threatened the Li and An families, he proposed using Yu Mugao’s fears to turn the Yu family against An Jingming, and then managed the spy Ma Haiji as a channel for misleading information rather than killing him outright. (Chapters 182, 203–207)
The pearl that killed him
Before a guest left the Li family, a subordinate presented Yuanxiu with a “precious pearl.” He asked that it be sent to Li Tongya for inspection. The object was a Thunder Pearl: Yu Muyuan and Master Jiang set the trap to strike before the item reached Tongya, and its explosion killed Yuanxiu in his courtyard. His death left the family’s succession unsettled and deepened the Li family’s grievance against the Yu family. (Chapters 210–211, 216)
Appearance and personality
Yuanxiu is described as a handsome, gentle young man with a quiet manner and a polite smile. His calmness was not passivity: he accepted an unfavorable family decision without resentment, took responsibility for difficult administration, and preferred indirect strategy when a direct clash risked exposing his family. (Chapters 165–167, 203–206)
Abilities and cultivation
Yuanxiu had a spiritual orifice and entered the Embryonic Breathing Realm in childhood, reaching its second stage by the time of his death. He studied swordsmanship from a young age, memorized the Profound Water Sword Technique, and could produce sword aura as a teenager. (Chapters 164–165, 211)
Relationships
- Li Xuanxuan and Madam Dou: His parents. Xuanxuan prepared him for family leadership, while Yuanxiu’s death became one of his father’s lasting griefs. (Chapters 104, 165–167, 639)
- Li Yuanjiao: A younger relative whom Yuanxiu patiently instructed in swordsmanship. (Chapter 165)
- Li Qinghong: A younger member of the Li family who received one of the mirror seeds that Yuanxiu himself did not receive. (Chapters 166–167)
- Yu Mugao’s family: Political rivals of the Li family. Yuanxiu’s death, caused by a Thunder Pearl arranged by Yu Muyuan and Master Jiang, became part of the families’ grievance. (Chapters 207, 211, 639)
Items
The pearl Yuanxiu briefly held was not a personal treasure: he intended to send it to Tongya for examination, but it was actually a Thunder Pearl planted in the Yu family’s trap. Its explosion killed him before it could be delivered. (Chapters 210–211)
