Mirror Jade Buckle
The Mirror Jade Buckle is a clear, moonlit jade treasure carried by Yu Muxian and later recovered by the Li Family. It is a detached mechanism of the Immortal Mirror, whose reintegration restores Lu Jiangxian's ability to traverse the great void. Its protection of Muxian and the family's efforts to obtain it make it central to their conflict.
History
Yu Muxian's concealed protection
Muxian finds the buckle as a child and credits it with helping him recognize people's nature and avoid becoming trapped in his family's struggles. As an Azure Pond cultivator, he keeps it close, repeatedly handling it or wearing it at his neck and waist. Its influence helps preserve his composure and comprehension under Tang Yuanwu's scrutiny. That protection has a cost: Yuanwu notices that ordinary divine influence does not work on him, and the resulting suspicion makes Muxian endure years of close surveillance and painful testing. Muxian tries to direct his master's interpretation toward a supposedly reincarnated cultivator while planning eventual independence through Purple Mansion attainment. (Chapters 353–355, 586, 597, and 604)
Lu recognizes the buckle's relation to the mirror, and the Li Family plans to obtain it without treating Muxian as an easy target. Yuanjiao's hostility toward him therefore includes more than the longstanding Li–Yu feud. During the final conflict, the buckle supports Muxian alongside his pills, but cannot prevent his death. Xuanfeng recovers it from beside the dead cultivator's wrist, where its white jade remains clean despite the surrounding blood. The acquisition is inseparable from Yuanjiao's fatal confrontation with Muxian. (Chapters 357, 588, 609, and 613)
Return to the mirror
Xuanfeng first finds no remarkable response when examining the recovered jade. He later presents it before the mirror in the ancestral shrine after checking that no Purple Mansion expert is nearby. It emits white light into the mirror, and Lu begins recovering the component's power. Its earlier failure to acknowledge a new master does not make it an ordinary ornament; the response depends on reunion with the artifact to which it belongs. (Chapters 616–617)
Over approximately half a month, the buckle dissolves into the mirror. Lu gains three additional talisman seeds and raises Supreme Yin Profound Light to Purple Mansion strength, but regards the restoration of great-void traversal as the more significant result. He understands the buckle as the mirror's original mechanism for that movement, extracted and condensed into jade before its recovery. It no longer remains a separate wearable treasure. (Chapter 619)
Abilities and properties
- Clear jade and moonlight: Its translucent, ice-like appearance conceals a power that can seem absent during ordinary inspection. Reunion with the mirror releases a stream of pure white light. (Chapters 353 and 616)
- Protection and comprehension: It calms Muxian and enhances his understanding, helping him endure hostile divine scrutiny. It is not invulnerability: his enemies ultimately kill him. (Chapters 604 and 609–613)
- Mirror restoration: Reintegration expands the mirror's talisman capacity, strengthens Supreme Yin Profound Light, and restores great-void traversal. These are powers of the repaired mirror, rather than functions of an independently retained buckle. (Chapters 617–619)
