Yu Muxian
Yu Muxian is an exceptionally capable artifact refiner whose detached demeanor conceals a long effort to withstand his master’s scrutiny and claim independence. His political choices help reshape Moongaze Lake, but his ambitions and powerful defenses cannot save him from a close-range killing in the grotto heaven. (Chapters 355, 604–610)
Biography
A protected child under Yuanwu’s scrutiny
As a child, Muxian found a jade buckle that helped him resist mental influence and improve his comprehension. His talent brought him under Tang Yuanwu’s personal attention, but Yuanwu noticed that his divine abilities could not affect the boy and kept him under close spiritual surveillance. Muxian learned to present himself as detached and wholly devoted to the Dao, while enduring years of painful cultivation and planning to reach the Purple Mansion Realm, establish a peak in his own name, and investigate the buckle’s origin. (Chapters 353–355, 604)
When Yuanwu Peak takes charge of Moongaze Lake, Muxian enforces tribute rules, gives the next sect disciple place to the Fei Family, and announces revised boundaries as a correction to the disorder caused by his junior disciples. Li Yuanjiao reads the decisions as a move that restores balance among the lake’s powers while creating a rift between the Li and Fei clans. (Chapter 355)
During the grotto-heaven battle, Muxian is forced into the open after years of secluded cultivation. Coordinated attacks break through his formations and artifacts; a cache of talismans keeps him alive through one near-fatal strike, but Li Yuanjiao uses a concealed approach to strike at close range. Muxian reaches for a life-saving talisman too late, and the sword intent kills him before he can use it or the pills in his pouch. (Chapters 605–610)
Appearance and personality
Muxian is slender and handsome, with an otherworldly air and a calm, detached manner. That appearance is partly cultivated: he relies on the jade buckle to steady his mind under Yuanwu’s pressure, rather than being untouched by it. (Chapters 353, 604, 609)
Abilities and cultivation
By the grotto-heaven conflict, Muxian has reached late Foundation Establishment. His spellwork is associated with the Molten Metal Cave Immortal Foundation: the Heavenly Golden Cymbal spell resonates with it. A separate perception technique lets him inspect an artifact’s qualities, though the cloud sea interferes with spiritual senses and perception, limiting long-range detection. (Chapters 605–606)
An accomplished refiner, Muxian prefers coordinated sets: he uses six golden shields and eight diamond-shaped artifacts together, along with the Binding Ring and the Heavenly Golden Cymbal spell. When Tu Longjian’s attacks disrupt his formation and destroy the cymbal, Muxian shifts defenses and uses the Binding Ring to pit astral gold against Merging Fire. Dozens of stored talismans and the jade buckle help him survive a later beam, but his artifacts are damaged and his final attacker closes inside his ability to react. (Chapters 606–609)
Relationships
- Tang Yuanwu: Muxian’s master and the source of his long period of scrutiny. Yuanwu’s inability to influence him makes Muxian’s jade buckle both protection and a cause of suspicion. (Chapter 604)
- Yu Mugao: Muxian’s elder brother, who is unsettled by Muxian’s detached manner and his changed position in the Yu family. (Chapters 353–355)
- Tang Shedu: His senior brother fights beside him in the grotto heaven, but cannot prevent Muxian’s death. (Chapters 605–610)
- Li Yuanjiao: Muxian first treats Yuanjiao with conspicuous courtesy while shaping sect policy around his family, but later dies to Yuanjiao’s concealed sword strike. (Chapters 355, 610)
Items
- Mirror Jade Buckle: Found by Muxian as a child, it strengthens his comprehension and helps him remain composed under Yuanwu’s spiritual pressure. After Muxian’s death, Li Xuanfeng recovers it from his robe. (Chapters 353–355, 604, 613)
- Cloudsunder: Muxian releases this short sword during the fight with Tu Longjian, interrupting the attack and forcing his opponent back. (Chapter 609)
