Li Chejing

Li Chejing is the youngest of the four Li brothers, a gifted cultivator whose mirror-granted path takes him from a farming household to the Azure Pond Sect and the southern border. His family's safety remains the measure of his choices: he conceals the source of his rare lunar cultivation, brings home techniques and resources, and refuses an escape that would expose his kin to retaliation. The sect ultimately gives him to a great flood dragon as an ingredient for Chi Wei's pill, but his returned seed and sword inheritance outlast the life that produced them. (Chapters 3, 9, 20, 58, 87, 128–130, 199)

Biography

A gifted son leaves the family fields

The youngest Li brother grows up among a close family whose prospects still depend on farming and village ties. At nine, he is already well-read, quick to notice the Immortal Mirror's light, and trusted to memorize and transcribe the unfamiliar Reception Method. When the brothers practice it, his compatibility halo is the brightest, suggesting cultivation progress approaching that of someone with a natural spiritual orifice. That distinction makes him both the household's strongest early prospect and its most conspicuous recipient of the mirror's promise. (Chapters 3, 7–8)

Chejing approaches the reception as a solemn obligation, memorizing the method for two months before asking his father to let him try. The ritual gives him the Profound Pearl Talisman Seed, the Supreme Yin Breathing Meridian Nourishment Sutra, and the Golden Light Art. The seed's inheritance cannot be recited or written: when he tries, he loses the ability to speak the method. He nevertheless learns how to gather moonlight and form the Profound Scenery Chakra. The mirror multiplies the moonlight energy available to him, accelerating a process he had calculated would otherwise take years. (Chapters 9–11)

His first breakthrough also exposes a danger. Searching his brothers for spiritual orifices, Chejing finds none in them or himself; the seed lets them cultivate without natural orifices, and its mana conceals that absence from ordinary detection once the first chakra is complete. After their eldest brother Changhu is murdered, Chejing's grief gives way to an angry demand for justice, then to a sharper understanding of how vulnerable the household is. He urges the family not to reveal a seed before its recipient condenses the first chakra. When Si Yuanbai offers him a place at Qingsui Peak, Chejing accepts his father's signal, bids his parents and brothers farewell in tears, and leaves with both filial sorrow and the excitement of setting out with a sword. (Chapters 11, 16–20, 22)

Qingsui Peak and a hidden lunar inheritance

As Qingsui Peak's seventh disciple, Chejing receives sword instruction and the welcome of Xiao Yuansi and Yuan Tuan. He studies diligently, advances through the Embryonic Breathing chakras, and keeps worrying about the family he left behind. Yuansi offers to carry a letter home, and the family later sends Chejing three bottles of Snake Essence Pills in a reply. When Ning Wan travels to Lixia Prefecture to collect tributes, Chejing asks her to look after his family and entrusts her with four or five Spirit Stones he has saved, explaining that he has all he needs on the peak. (Chapters 22, 28, 38, 46)

Chejing learns the Profound Water Sword Technique and, despite being only at peak Embryonic Breathing, faces Deng Qiuzhi's higher-realm attack with a spirit net. The net briefly entangles Deng's golden pearl, but the effort sends blood from Chejing's mouth. He closes the gap and strikes with his sword; Deng's protective talisman prevents a fatal wound. Chejing recognizes that his control was imperfect, and Deng acknowledges the loss. Their early clash becomes the basis for a later bond. (Chapter 52)

At sixteen, close to Qi Cultivation, Chejing returns home because the family has found a rare white qi in a cave and summoned him to assess it. He recognizes it as Supreme Yin Moonlight, an exceptionally valuable resource fought over by stronger cultivators. He understands the threat as well as the opportunity: if the sect suspects that the Li family can produce it continuously, the family could be destroyed. Working with his father and brothers, he devises a plausible account that places the qi in an old cave, transfers ordinary Fire Baleful Qi into the family's bottle, and takes the true moonlight back with him. His caution protects a secret that even his family cannot yet defend by force. (Chapters 57–59)

Chejing's plan depends on his master, Si Yuanbai, and his fellow disciples. The Moon Lake Autumn Reflection Technique requires both Supreme Yin Moonlight and Golden Autumn In Lake spiritual qi. After Chejing reveals his possession of Supreme Yin Moonlight using the old-cave bottle account, Yuanbai and Yuan Tuan arrange access to the technique, and Yuanbai requests the sect's Golden Autumn In Lake for him. Chejing accepts the Profound Scenery Spiritual Oath that prevents him from revealing the method, and conceals the moonlight until he has made substantial progress. He then gives the family what he can share: the Spiritual Talisman Method, a legacy with twelve Embryonic Breathing and three Qi Cultivation talismans, and a cheaper practice method using diluted ink on cloth rather than wasting costly paper. He also records a one-move sword technique, Celestial Moon Slash, and uses spells and supplements to help his aging father. His homecoming therefore turns his talent into a durable family inheritance, even as his own cultivation must remain secret. (Chapters 39, 58–62)

After returning to the sect, he masters Moon Lake Autumn Reflection and uses its lunar sword qi. He negotiates with Xiao Yuansi to obtain two cultivation techniques and a qi-gathering method for his family, trading for them with an Essence Gathering Pill for the Xiao clan. The bargain reflects the balance Chejing has learned to strike: he cultivates at a sect that can offer rare knowledge, but he treats that knowledge as a means to strengthen the family rather than as a reason to leave it behind. (Chapter 76)

Yi Mountain and refusal to surrender dignity

The sect sends Chejing and Yuansi to reinforce its southern defenses. Years of fighting beast tides at Yi Mountain City make Chejing known as a formidable “little sword immortal,” but the battlefield teaches him to read the purpose behind the assignment. He and Deng Qiuzhi discover that the pills supplied to them have lasting effects suited to Human Pill refinement, and that the sect's arrangement is meant to feed them to the southern demon king. Deng's family has been coerced for generations into a related secret technique; both men understand that flight could bring reprisals on their families. Chejing chooses to remain, reasoning that their families need time to endure and gather strength even when they cannot challenge the sect directly. What began as rivalry has become trust grounded in shared danger. (Chapters 52, 76, 87)

Chejing suppresses the liquefaction of his six chakras while the sect repeatedly pressures him to establish a foundation. After years on the southern assignment, he enters a three-year seclusion and forms the Lake Moon Autumn Dao foundation during its first year; he devotes the remaining years to recording his experiences and talisman techniques. When another Essence Gathering Pill is offered, he sends it home instead of treating it as a safeguard for himself. He also gives Yuansi the alchemy inheritance and an archery technique he obtained for Li Xuanfeng, whose skill with bow and arrow resembles his father's, along with drawn talismans, about one hundred Spirit Stones, and a request to look after the family. Chejing's preparations are a deliberate answer to his sentence: he cannot break the sect's hold, so he tries to leave his relatives tools and a protector. (Chapters 98, 127)

Before departing on the final mission, Chejing asks that his sword be returned if he dies. He then faces Chi Zhiyun in a public duel. His Celestial Moon Slash overwhelms Zhiyun's sword qi and fire spells, and his sword intent pierces the opponent's crimson barrier and talisman shields. Chejing stops the strike just short of Zhiyun's face and calls the fight a spar. He explains to Yuansi that killing Zhiyun would expose the Li family to retaliation; he trusts that Zhiyun, proud but honorable, will not take revenge for a fair defeat. This is not a refusal to fight, but a measured use of strength to protect his family while preserving his own dignity. (Chapters 127–128)

The mission carries Chejing farther south, where the great flood dragon confirms that his Lake Moon Autumn foundation makes him a suitable ingredient. It immobilizes him and casts him into the furnace with Deng. Chejing cannot escape, and his last thoughts return to his dead father, his imprisoned mentor, his absent family, and the future of Qingsui Peak. He dies in the furnace; Chi Wei later confirms that the refined pill was delivered to him. The sect's exploitation turns Chejing's cultivation into the very resource he had feared it would become, while the inheritance he prepared is already on its way home. (Chapters 128–129, 199)

A sword inheritance beyond its creator

After Chejing's death, his talisman seed returns to the Immortal Mirror with his cultivation and memories. Lu Jiangxian preserves Chejing's Sword Dao experience as a separate pale green legacy; this keeps what Chejing learned, not Chejing himself, and establishes neither an independent consciousness nor a resurrection. In chapter 308, the mirror's keeper attributes Chi Wei's failed Golden Core breakthrough to the cultivation he expected but did not harvest from Chejing. Much later, in chapter 1605, Lu considers the ordinary recognition threshold: a successor needs exceptional talent or must approach Sword Intent through Sword Essence. He then forcibly places the experience into Li Jiangchun's seed before it accepts him and keeps the legacy suppressed while Jiangchun learns until he earns its recognition. The extraordinary transfer does not mean Chejing is alive or that Jiangchun initially met the ordinary requirement. (Chapters 130, 308, 1605)

His physical Qingche Sword takes a separate path. Chejing nurtures it until it becomes a Foundation Establishment dharma artifact bearing his Celestial Moon Sword Intent, and asks Yuansi to return it to the family. Li Yuanjiao later uses its stored intent in a strike against Yu Muxian; that strike exhausts the intent, leaving no trace for a second use, while the physical sword remains. Chejing's recorded sword experience endures separately in the mirror legacy described above. (Chapters 127, 167, 610, 1605)

Appearance and personality

Chejing is described as handsome from childhood, with clear intelligence and an eager, energetic manner. He grows into a composed young man whose white robes and sword give him the appearance of an immortal, while his demeanor carries the maturity of years at war. His courtesy toward elders and the care with which he handles family resources coexist with the confidence to challenge stronger cultivators when he judges the risk acceptable. (Chapters 7, 20, 52, 87, 1608)

His defining commitments are to cultivation, family, and the people who treat him fairly. He is curious enough to study unfamiliar qi and sword techniques, but he is also an astute reader of sect politics. The more he learns about the motives of powerful institutions, the more carefully he protects his family. He can act boldly without mistaking victory for safety: against Chi Zhiyun, he demonstrates superiority but deliberately prevents a fatal wound that would invite harm to his relatives. (Chapters 22, 58, 87, 128)

Abilities and cultivation

Chejing's cultivation combines the mirror's talisman seed, a lunar path, and swordsmanship developed at Qingsui Peak. His personal attainment ends at early Foundation Establishment with a Lake Moon Autumn Dao foundation. His returned seed and Qingche Sword preserve different parts of his legacy: neither establishes that he continued living or acting after death. (Chapters 9, 127–130)

Profound Pearl Talisman Seed and lunar cultivation

The Profound Pearl Talisman Seed lets Chejing cultivate despite lacking a natural spiritual orifice. It carries the Supreme Yin Breathing Meridian Nourishment Sutra and Golden Light Art, and it hides the absence of an orifice from detection once he condenses the Profound Scenery Chakra. The Sutra's initial practice gathers moonlight at the brow and returns the transformed qi to the Qihai; eighty-one wisps form the first chakra. When Chejing's spiritual power mingles with the mirror's halo, the mirror increases the moonlight energy available to him by more than tenfold. He can explain the method to his family only in general terms because the seed prevents him from speaking or writing its outline. (Chapters 8–11)

Chejing progresses through the Embryonic Breathing chakras and then cultivates with the Moon Lake Autumn Reflection Technique, which he learns under a Profound Scenery Spiritual Oath. The method requires two distinct spiritual qi: Supreme Yin Moonlight and Golden Autumn In Lake, with Yuanbai arranging the latter through the sect. Chejing masters the method, reaches the ninth heavenly layer of Qi Cultivation, and breaks through to Foundation Establishment; dates for intermediate layers are unknown. Forming his Dao foundation converts the six chakras into Lake Moon Autumn; Chejing describes its green-white qi and crystal-clear, versatile true essence. His foundation is exactly what makes him valuable to Chi Wei's plan, and it does not protect him from a Purple Mansion cultivator or the great flood dragon. (Chapters 38–39, 62, 76, 98, 127–128)

Profound Water Sword Technique and Celestial Moon Sword Intent

Xiao Yuansi gives Chejing the Profound Water Sword Technique as a beginner's sword art. Chejing explains that its stages proceed through Sword Aura, Sword Qi, Sword Essence, and Sword Intent, while noting that the Profound Water technique is relatively easy to learn. He demonstrates a gray aura following his blade, then releases sword qi from it to pierce a distant tree. Against Deng Qiuzhi, he briefly entangles the golden pearl in a spirit net, suffers backlash that draws blood, then closes the distance and strikes with his sword. The net delays the artifact but does not turn it against Deng; a talisman shield stops the potentially fatal blow. The encounter shows both the technique's tactical reach and the danger of using it before he has full control. (Chapters 28, 52, 61)

Chejing develops Celestial Moon Slash from the image of a crescent-shaped white aura. He records the single-move technique for the Li family and teaches its principles alongside his own sword practice. With the lunar qi of Moon Lake Autumn Reflection behind it, the slash grows into a full-moon-sized arc capable of breaking Chi Zhiyun's sword qi and cutting through his fire spells. Chejing's Celestial Moon Sword Intent is more refined still: it pierces Zhiyun's crimson barrier and golden talisman shields, yet he directs it past Zhiyun's face without cutting him. A later description groups Chejing among sword-essence cultivators, but no separate transition or regression is shown to explain that label; his demonstrated use of Sword Intent remains clear. (Chapters 62, 76, 127–128, 921)

The Qingche Sword enhances this practice as an equipment-derived legacy, not an innate extension of Chejing's body. He nurtures it with his sword intent until the blade advances to Foundation Establishment grade and accumulates a pure Celestial Moon Sword Intent. He eventually entrusts it to Yuansi for return to the family. The green sword later formed from Chejing's returned seed is a separate mirror legacy, not the same physical weapon. (Chapters 127, 167, 130)

Talisman craft and practical arts

Chejing studies the sect's Six Stems Talisman Art but cannot reveal it because of his oath. His master also gives him a rogue cultivator's Spiritual Talisman Method, which he is free to share: it includes twelve Embryonic Breathing talismans and three Qi Cultivation talismans. He teaches his brothers to use a drop of spirit ink diluted in water on cloth for practice; a correctly drawn rune burns the cloth, while a failed attempt can be washed away. The method reduces their cost of learning, but it does not prove mastery of every talisman in the manuals. Chejing later records the techniques and sends the family the talismans he drew. (Chapters 59–62, 98, 127)

His remaining arts support travel, study, and care for others. He uses Wind Riding to reach the family village, forms a spirit net to delay an artifact, shapes lunar essences into water, and uses spells and supplements to improve his father's condition. These arts give him practical versatility beyond swordsmanship; his sword intent remains his clearest combat specialty. The Golden Light Art is included in his initial inheritance, but no signature use of it by Chejing is shown. (Chapters 9, 19, 52, 57, 62, 98)

Relationships

  • Li Mutian, Li Changhu, Li Tongya, and Li Xiangping: His father and elder brothers share both the mirror's secret and the family's early cultivation. Chejing looks to Mutian's judgment when he leaves for Qingsui Peak, grieves Changhu's death, and repeatedly returns or sends resources to his surviving family. His sword and cultivation manuals become part of the inheritance he leaves to Tongya and the next generation. (Chapters 11, 16, 20, 57–62, 98)
  • Li Xuanfeng: Chejing remembers that his nephew uses a bow like his father and obtains an archery inheritance for Xuanfeng and his descendants. (Chapter 98)
  • Si Yuanbai: His master recruits him into Qingsui Peak and gives him access to cultivation and sword instruction. Yuanbai helps keep the Supreme Yin Moonlight hidden from the sect, accepts Chejing's old-cave account, and secures the Moon Lake Autumn Reflection Technique, earning Chejing's enduring gratitude. (Chapters 20, 22, 62)
  • Xiao Yuansi: His senior brother protects and teaches him at Qingsui Peak, offers to carry a letter home, later carries the family's reply containing Snake Essence Pills, and becomes the custodian of Chejing's final bequests. Chejing entrusts him with the family's future and with returning Qingche to his relatives. (Chapters 22, 28, 38, 98, 127–128, 167)
  • Yuan Tuan: His senior sister carries news between Qingsui Peak and the family and accompanies his return to Moongaze Lake. When she asks about his father, he conceals that his visit has another purpose. (Chapters 46, 57, 62)
  • Deng Qiuzhi: Their first encounter is a confrontation in which Chejing's sword nearly defeats a stronger cultivator, but a talisman shield prevents a fatal injury. Repeated fighting at Yi Mountain turns the rivals into close comrades, and both ultimately face the sect's plan to use them as pill ingredients. (Chapters 52, 87–88)
  • Chi Zhiyun and Chi Wei: Chejing respects Zhiyun's talent and defeats him in a controlled public spar, refusing to risk his family's safety by killing him. Chi Wei's scheme has a different purpose: it turns Chejing's rare Lake Moon Autumn foundation into an ingredient for a Golden Core pill, making Chejing one of the sect's most valuable and most endangered disciples. (Chapters 98, 127–128, 199)
  • Lu Jiangxian and the Immortal Mirror: The mirror grants Chejing a seed and cultivation path, but a direct personal relationship with its concealed consciousness is not established. After his death, the mirror receives his seed and preserves his experience without restoring his life. (Chapters 9, 130)

Items

Mirror and seed

The Li family's Immortal Mirror provides the setting for Chejing's first cultivation, though it is a family-held relic rather than his personal possession. His Profound Pearl Talisman Seed gives him access to cultivation and links his progress to the mirror. After his death, the seed returns with his experience, while Chejing himself remains dead. (Chapters 3, 9, 130)

Qingche Sword

Chejing cultivates the Qingche Sword until it becomes a Foundation Establishment dharma artifact carrying Celestial Moon Sword Intent. He entrusts it to Xiao Yuansi for return to the Li family. Li Yuanjiao later exhausts the stored intent in his strike against Yu Muxian; the physical blade remains a family weapon and heirloom. (Chapters 127, 167, 610)
