Leo Skyshard

Leo Skyshard is the central protagonist of Timeless Assassin, a memory-stripped assassin whose attempt to protect his family draws him into the Cult of Ascension's succession struggle. He rises from a Rodova cadet to Shadow Dragon, Cult Master, godslayer, and ultimately a candidate to become the Lord of the Void.

Biography

Lost memory and Rodova Academy

Leo awakens in a prison transport with no dependable memory of himself, armed only with a message naming him and claiming that he had been an elite assassin on Earth. Faced with an entrance trial where hesitation means death, he chooses the apparently weak Felix as a partner because cooperation offers a better chance of survival than competing alone. His body retains lethal instincts his mind cannot explain, allowing him to read attacks and fight with frightening precision, but the trial ends by forcing him to kill the companion he had protected. His inability to summon ordinary remorse becomes his first warning that the missing past has shaped him more deeply than simple amnesia. (Chapters 3–22)

At Rodova Military Academy, Leo initially wants control over his own life: he hides the extent of his memory loss, studies the universe's political order, and searches for the unknown patron who arranged his admission. Aptitude testing exposes exceptional reflexes and Monarch-level potential, making anonymity increasingly impossible. He nevertheless chooses to seek Muiyan Faye's help, judging that recovering useful knowledge is worth the risk of trusting her. Faye restores his combat memories and reveals that the erasure was voluntary, undertaken to pass Righteous Faction scrutiny and reach the Black Serpents. That answer gives him a direction, but it also ties his apparently independent choices to a mission he still does not fully understand. (Chapters 25–67)

Training turns Leo's uncertainty into discipline. He rebuilds his fighting style around recovered assassin techniques, the Complete Marrow Meditation Manual, and repeated practical combat, while Su Yang becomes both the rival who tests his limits and the friend capable of challenging his solitary habits. Genetic awakening increases Leo's physical efficiency and produces Monarch's Indifference, a passive state that suppresses emotional extremes and grants extraordinary focus at the cost of making him seem detached. He exploits that clarity to accelerate meditation and combat growth, yet his developing bonds with Su Yang, Mu Shen, and Faye show that the coldness is an imposed condition rather than the whole of his personality. The Interstellar Circuits transform Leo from a suspicious prodigy into a public figure. He repeatedly accepts dangerous matchups, studies opponents rather than relying on raw speed, and helps Rodova overturn long odds against stronger academies. After he defeats Darnell Nuna in the final, a Cult attack turns the arena into a massacre and leaves Darnell apparently captured after intervening on Leo's behalf. Leo uses the resulting debt of honor as a credible public reason to leave Rodova and join the Black Serpents, while privately continuing the infiltration Faye had recovered from his erased memories. His victories therefore win Rodova the championship but also complete the first stage of a plan designed to remove him from the academy. (Chapters 160–246)

Black Serpents and the Shadow Dragon

After joining the Black Serpents, Leo receives the rest of his memories and learns why his former self accepted erasure: the Cult held his family within its influence, and becoming its sole Dragon candidate was the surest way to spare Luke and Jacob from the same path. He accepts that the Righteous powers will hunt the Timeless Assassin's bloodline, but he resents being maneuvered through half-truths. Rather than abandon the Cult, which remains the only faction willing to protect his family, he recasts the relationship as an alliance of necessity and resolves to trust Faye and the elders only when their actions earn it. That guarded independence becomes a defining feature of his later leadership. (Chapters 250–270)

To earn unrestricted vault access, Leo enters a time-stilled world in search of Origin Metal. The expedition confirms his suspicion that institutional labels do not guarantee loyalty: Karl, a hidden Cult operative, treats him as an enemy, while the ancient Moltherak becomes an unlikely teacher after recognizing Leo's Mana Heart. Leo survives the world's hostile terrain, trains the Sevenfold Revelation Codex through lived emotional experience, and recovers two Origin Metal slabs from Zhanrok's domain. On returning, he gives the Black Serpents only one slab and secretly entrusts the other to Chaosbringer, choosing personal leverage over obedience to either organization after repeated betrayals have shown him the cost of surrendering all options. The Black Serpents vault becomes Leo's first decisive break with the faction he infiltrated. While officially selecting the Indestructible Necklace as his mission reward, he memorizes the Cult's sealed skill scroll and plants a portal frame for a later retrieval team, then escapes before Vice Guildmaster Antonio can close the trap around him. Jayden's team uses that breach to steal other treasure but cannot break the scroll's casing, and Jayden dies during the failed primary retrieval. Leo's preparations preserve the technique in his own memory and enable a large secondary theft, but they also expose him as the Cult operative and destroy any possibility of returning to the Serpents. The operation wins strategic value without recovering the physical scroll or restoring the freedom he originally sought. (Chapters 360–397)

Reunion with his family and Amanda gives Leo a personal life worth defending, while training under Charles begins converting his individual skill into command judgment. In the public contest with Aegon Veyr, Leo defeats the stronger Transcendent through layered tactics but refuses the Dragon title rather than let it consume his autonomy; Soron answers by naming him the unprecedented Shadow Dragon beside Veyr. Leo then turns rivalry into partnership, learns Cult techniques with his cousin, protects Dupravel through a politically useful false story of a binding contract, and accepts responsibility for planetary operations. His killing of the Twelfth Elder settles a deeply personal grievance, yet the emotional instability that follows reveals that power and revenge have costs he cannot simply suppress. (Chapters 389–586)

The Time-Stilled World and the Pit

As Shadow Dragon, Leo becomes responsible for both conquest and continuity. He learns Mana Disruption and Fade Step, seeks Charles's help when his soul begins to outgrow his Grandmaster body, completes the Sevenfold Revelation Codex, and survives a dangerous breakthrough to Transcendent. Military campaigns force him to make decisions whose consequences fall on soldiers and civilians rather than only himself, while Veyr's growing acceptance of the Dragon role gives Leo a partner rather than a ceremonial superior. Charles remains the model Leo studies most closely: strength matters, but a commander must understand delegation, logistics, morale, and the lives hidden beneath a battlefield plan. (Chapters 593–680)

Charles's death and the Righteous destruction of Cult worlds remove that safety net. Leo responds by organizing evacuation into the time-stilled world, moving his own family under the same emergency plan, and personally preserving Soron's relics before Ixtal can be overrun. The retreat humiliates him because it proves that intelligence cannot compensate for a complete lack of divine power, but he refuses to turn helplessness into denial. He saves what people and history he can, coordinates survival with Veyr, and carries the promise that the Cult will return. This is the point at which leadership stops being an appointment and becomes a burden he accepts even without Soron present to authorize every choice. (Chapters 700–750)

Decades of training inside the accelerated world give Leo the strength to answer that failure, but they also estrange him from the life he meant to protect. The Emperor's Suppression Manual requires domination under deliberate handicaps and later a vast accumulation of killing intent; as his aura grows, it becomes dangerous even to nearby civilians and eventually prevents him from safely holding Amanda or his children. The deaths of Jacob and Elena while he is consumed by training sharpen his fear of becoming another absent father. He nevertheless continues because Veyr has been captured and the Cult still lacks another warrior capable of leading a rescue, turning advancement into both an act of devotion and a source of isolation. (Chapters 750–840)

When Soron returns gravely weakened, Leo presents a rescue plan designed around Veyr's public execution at the Pit. He coordinates Soron's divine confrontation with the Cult Army's fourth-dimensional arrival, advances through the battlefield to free Veyr, and uses a Life-Essence-powered Temporal Shift to kill Raymond despite remaining mortal. The plan succeeds because Leo treats Soron's battle, the army's route, Veyr's survival, and the retreat as linked responsibilities rather than separate feats. Its cost is devastating: Soron spends his remaining life holding the enemy Gods in place and dies after passing the future of the Cult to the younger generation. Leo returns wounded, but accepts the title of Cult Master and turns mourning into a public commitment to avenge Soron and dismantle the order that hunted them. (Chapters 850–982)

Cult Master, godslayer, and the open future

Cult leadership initially exposes the split between Leo's public competence and his private neglect. He directs Ixtal's reconstruction and begins restructuring the shattered organization, but Amanda confronts him over his emotional distance from their young children and the ease with which duty still removes him from home. Leo promises to be present, only for Kaelith's destruction of Ixtal to demonstrate how fragile that promise remains while Gods can strike without consequence. The loss hardens his resolve, yet it also changes the purpose of his advancement: he must build power, institutions, and successors strong enough that his family and the Cult are not protected solely by his presence. (Chapters 980–1027)

Leo pursues that security through long-range preparation rather than immediate revenge. He studies the universal laws with the Timeless Assassin's projection, arranges the theft and collection of ingredients for Demi-God breakthrough potions, and tests Mauriss through a wager for Grudgekeeper rather than attacking a foe he cannot yet reliably defeat. After mastering the foundations of time, space, gravity, creation, and destruction, he takes the first potion and reaches Demi-God. He then distributes later potions through a Cult tournament, using scarce advancement resources to raise Veyr and other defenders instead of hoarding every advantage for House Skyshard. His new rank gives him divine essence, but he treats it as the foundation for an original combat system rather than an endpoint. (Chapters 1028–1097)

The resulting Boss's Execution combines Leo's understanding of the laws with his assassin's preference for controlled openings. He uses Veyr as a trusted partner to isolate Yu Kiro in the Fourth Dimension, probes the God's capabilities, and ends him once the necessary sequence is established. Against Kaelith, Leo coordinates Veyr, Leonardo, and the Skyshard brothers instead of seeking a solitary duel, then claims the Eternal Garden and its Moonshine Flowers after the God falls. These campaigns break the prestige of the old divine order while showing how Leo's leadership has changed: he still delivers the decisive strike, but only after building a team able to create, survive, and exploit the opening with him. Mauriss makes Leo's family the center of the final conflict by using Caleb as bait and preparing a planetary formation meant to drain and immobilize the Cult Master. Leo answers with years of contingency planning: he arrives with a deliberately selected force, keeps his secret ascension to Godhood concealed, and relies on Leonardo to satisfy the exact wording of Mauriss's coercive contract by severing Leo's legs. Leo then reverses the injury through the Law of Time, kills Mauriss, recovers the second Grudgekeeper blade, and pursues the fleeing Lu Han. Veyr and Dumpy jointly defeat Moltherak without Leo's help: Veyr distracts him and passes an Origin dagger to Dumpy for the fatal strike. Their victory proves that the Cult's survival no longer depends on Leo winning every battlefield himself and destroys the alliance that had sustained the old order. (Chapters 1178–1196)

Leo's final political choice is restraint. Convinced that a victorious empire without a common enemy would eventually fracture, he stages his own death and entrusts rival public factions to Caleb and Veyr, with private cooperation and the Shadows preserving balance beneath their apparent dispute. He then retires to the Eternal Garden and gives Amanda, his children, and later generations the time his earlier ambitions repeatedly denied them. Centuries of peace do not erase loss—Amanda, Luke, and Alia eventually die—but Leo preserves projection echoes of them in Skyshard Hall as memorials rather than pretending they are the originals. His retirement completes the lesson that protecting a future also requires stepping aside so others can live within it. (Chapters 1196–1199)

Five hundred years after the Final War, Leo decides that his descendants and the Cult no longer require his guardianship and considers resuming the pursuit of a realm beyond Godhood. Lady Destiny then reveals that his fulfilled obligations and long refusal to accumulate new karmic debts have left both his karma and future unbound. She offers him the possibility of becoming the Third Eternal, Lord of the Void, but Leo's first response is to ask whether the path is truly his choice. The question preserves the central change of his life: the amnesiac who once followed a destiny arranged by others ends with the right to decide what he will become next. (Chapter 1200)

Appearance and personality

Leo is introduced with gray eyes and a lean, well-toned build suited to speed rather than brute force. Genetic awakening makes him taller, lengthens his hair, adds compact muscle, and lightens while strengthening his bones, leaving his movements unusually fluid. Later ranks make his presence increasingly physical: his trained aura can shake structures, suppress armies, and become dangerous to ordinary people even when he does not intend harm. (Chapters 5, 38, 99–101, and 750–755)

He is observant, suspicious, intensely competitive, and habitually theatrical about his identity as “TheBoss.” The bravado is real, but it coexists with disciplined risk assessment: Leo routinely studies opponents, preserves escape routes, and distrusts organizations that demand loyalty without accountability. Monarch's Indifference temporarily makes his emotional restraint inhumanly pronounced, while later aura training forces him to confront emotions rather than erase them. His strongest loyalties are personal—family, mentors, and comrades—but his development lies in expanding that protective instinct into responsibility for an institution and finally learning that presence, restraint, and succession matter as much as victory. Abilities and power progression

Leo's combat identity combines inherited potential, a surgically altered body, formal ranked advancement, assassin techniques, aura cultivation, and later control over divine laws. These sources are distinct: his bloodline and genetic awakening provide traits such as Parallel Processing and the Mana Heart; manuals train his perception and aura; learned skills supply movement, stealth, and control; notable items provide protection or divine-killing capability; and his final manipulation of universal laws depends on Demi-God and God-level essence rather than ordinary mana alone.

Genetic awakening, Mana Heart, and ranked advancement

Rodova measures Leo as a Monarch-level genetic talent before his awakening regimen is complete. The controlled serum doses amplify his strength, speed, senses, and cognition, while the first awakening produces hypersensitive vision and Monarch's Indifference. The latter passively narrows his emotional range and maintains exceptional focus, making long meditation and rapid tactical calculation easier; its cost is emotional distance, and sustained practice of the Sevenfold Revelation Codex eventually weakens its suppressive effect. His final serum dose forms a Mana Heart, an organ unknown in humans that filters and compresses blood and mana. It increases the purity and output of his techniques, but its origin is tied to earlier experimentation and ancestral-dragon biology rather than a normal human awakening. The Complete Marrow Meditation Manual is Leo's first foundational cultivation method. By replacing ordinary cellular and marrow production with enhanced blood-cell generation, it improves stamina, mana circulation, and explosive movement without forcing him into a purely strength-based build. Completion gives him a stable platform for Grandmaster combat, while later manuals and breakthrough potions carry him through Transcendent, Monarch, and Demi-God. At Demi-God, divine essence becomes a natural part of his cells, allowing outputs that previously consumed limited Life Essence to become sustainable. His later, secretly completed God breakthrough grants God-level regeneration and fuller authority over the laws he had already studied. Assassin techniques and tactical integration

Faye restores Leo's erased knowledge of an offense-heavy assassin repertoire, including Vanish, Mirror World, Dark Blade, Thousand Phantom Slashes, and Absolute Vision. These skills do not function as isolated attacks in his hands: he uses illusions and erased presence to overload perception, binding techniques to restrict movement, and linear bursts such as Storm Flash Traverse to exploit a manufactured blind spot. His Circuit victory over Darnell demonstrates the underlying method—observe cadence and recovery, test defenses, then commit only after the opponent's rhythm is understood. The approach remains effective above his nominal tier, as shown when he layers Mirror World, Vanish, Astral Hook Bind, and Storm Flash Traverse to wound Veyr. Cult instruction expands that repertoire. Mana Disruption sends a precisely vibrated pulse through a roughly five-meter area, briefly preventing targets from gathering, circulating, or controlling mana; it can interrupt charged techniques and collapse mana barriers, but its effect lasts only seconds. Fade Step folds space during an apparent finishing lunge, removing Leo from conventional perception and placing him behind the target mid-strike. At Grandmaster, using it more than twice in rapid succession strains his nervous system and causes vertigo, nausea, or blurred vision. Sixth Sense is non-mana-dependent danger awareness trained to warn of attacks or poison even when sight, hearing, and mana perception are unavailable. Shapeshift provides infiltration rather than raw power, letting Leo reproduce another person's body and voice after extensive practice. (Chapters 480–504, 593, 680, and 965)

Sevenfold Revelation Codex and intent

The Sevenfold Revelation Codex is a blood-bound meditation manual that trains Leo to pool mana behind his eyes and perceive intent as color through observation of real emotional situations. It cannot be mastered in isolation or by repeating a fixed circulation diagram; comprehension comes from recognizing anger, dismay, joy, love, deceit, survival, and destiny in lived choices. This makes it both a perception system and the basis of his aura development. The training carries psychological risk because chasing a single emotion can distort his behavior, and the Codex itself warns that an enemy who understands the reason behind his survival intent may attack that anchor. Leo's progression moves from seeing colors to reading intent and then expressing his own aura deliberately. He completes the seven hues only after Soron exposes him to the golden intent of destiny and events supply the green intent to survive. Full mastery makes him only the second known practitioner to complete the Codex and satisfies his final requirement for the Transcendent breakthrough. Its greatest tactical value is not mind-reading: it reveals emotional direction and imminent purpose, which Leo must still interpret, and deceptive or complex actors can remain difficult. The Codex also works against Monarch's Indifference by forcing him to experience the emotional range that the passive trait suppresses. (Chapters 550, 586, 594, 602–620)

Emperor's Suppression and battlefield aura

The Emperor's Suppression Manual converts an assassin trained to hide his presence into a warrior able to impose it. Its first stage requires Aura Projection: Leo extends aura beyond his body, learns how emotion changes its behavior, and eventually exerts enough deliberate pressure to extinguish a distant flame. Later stages demand a million victories under handicaps that keep his odds at or below half, with any loss resetting the sequence. The training teaches his aura to express inevitability rather than simple aggression, but its growing pressure becomes difficult to contain and forces him into isolation to protect civilians and family. (Chapters 631–642, 716, 731–755)

The manual's final killing-intent requirement drives Leo through mass battlefield slaughter until he reaches two billion kills and qualifies for Monarch. At full scale his aura can paralyze or kill weaker opponents, crush morale, affect structures and weather, and let him function as an army without ordinary troops. These effects depend on relative strength and control: powerful enemies can resist, emotional instability can make the field dangerous to allies, and expanding it over great distances is exhausting during development. Leo completes the manual and retains the resulting aura, while refusing to treat its methods as harmless or to pass it casually to someone he cares about. (Chapters 755, 800–831)

Fourth-dimensional movement, universal laws, and Boss's Execution

Leo first learns fourth-dimensional travel from Moltherak, using mapped entry slopes and distance vectors to open stable tunnels across planetary distances. Temporal Shift is a separate technique memorized by Leo from the Cult's lost scroll while he is inside the Black Serpents vault: it accelerates the body toward half light-speed by compressing space and ordinarily requires divine essence to stabilize the user against inertia. Before reaching Demi-God, Leo substitutes the finite Life Essence granted by the Dragon's Mark, enabling a mortal use strong enough to surprise Raymond but causing severe backlash when combined with extended combat. These techniques provide speed and access; they do not by themselves grant the deeper temporal authority he later develops. (Chapters 389–397, 860–874, and 966–975)

Under the Timeless Assassin's projection, Leo studies time as a field with gradients and distortions in the Fourth Dimension, then develops linked understanding of space, gravity, creation, and destruction. Demi-God divine essence lets him interact with those laws rather than merely perceive them. His version of Seconds Walk splits a moment into competing outcomes and uses spatial control to choose his reappearance when the branches merge. Boss's Execution builds an assassination sequence around that divergence, chaining displacement, gravity, timed attacks, and an Origin dagger into an opening a God cannot conventionally react to. The technique requires exact alignment, substantial essence, a suitable opening, and a weapon capable of making the final wound; it is therefore prepared through probing and teamwork rather than used as a costless instant kill. By the final war, Leo can use Seconds Walk against Gods and, after secretly ascending, manipulate the Law of Time to restore his severed legs to an earlier state. This is God-level regeneration through temporal correction, not ordinary healing, and its reveal succeeds because Mauriss plans around Demi-God limits. Leo's latest demonstrated state is a retired God with mastery over fourth-dimensional travel and the core universal laws, qualified by Destiny to pursue the mantle of the Third Eternal. The corpus ends before explaining the mechanics, obligations, or powers of that prospective office, so whether he accepts it and how it would change his abilities remain unknown. Relationships

• Amanda: Leo's wife and the clearest measure of whether his victories protect a life worth living. She supports his campaigns but repeatedly challenges his absences, pushing him to become a present husband and father rather than another remote patriarch.
• Aegon Veyr: Leo's cousin, early rival, Dragon, and eventual co-architect of the Cult's future. Their partnership matures from competition into battlefield trust; Leo later selects Veyr as one of the two public successors capable of balancing House Skyshard.
• Soron: Cult Master, divine patron, and late mentor. Soron helps Leo complete the Sevenfold Revelation Codex, entrusts him with the Cult's future, and sacrifices himself at the Pit to make Leo's rescue plan possible.
• Charles: Leo's principal military and aura mentor. Charles teaches him to think as a commander rather than a solitary killer, and his death becomes both a lasting source of grief and a driving force behind Leo's aura training.
• Dumpy: Leo's adopted frog companion, who addresses him as “Lord Father.” Their comic affection develops into genuine mutual reliance, and Dumpy eventually becomes strong enough to share responsibility for threats Leo once would have faced alone.
• Su Yang: Leo's Rodova rival and friend. Their competition sharpens both men, while their continued respect survives their placement on opposing sides of the Cult–Righteous divide.
• Moltherak: An ancient dragon who teaches Leo about the Mana Heart and fourth-dimensional movement. Their relationship mixes mentorship, rivalry, and political tension; Moltherak later joins the enemy alliance and is killed by Veyr and Dumpy in the final war.
• Dupravel Nuna: Former enemy and Black Serpents guildmaster. Leo protects and exploits him as a strategic asset, publicly claiming a binding that gives Dupravel political cover while privately maintaining leverage over the dangerous Monarch.
• Caleb Skyshard: Leo's son and eventual leader of the House Skyshard faction. Protecting Caleb helps draw Leo into the final war, while entrusting him with succession proves Leo's willingness to let the next generation govern without his public dominance.
