Demi-God Breakthrough Potion
The Demi-God Breakthrough Potion is a necessary but not sufficient catalyst for a qualified Monarch's ascent to Demi-God. Its three defining ingredients come from worlds controlled by divine rulers, making access to the formula a problem of political monopoly, dangerous procurement, exacting manufacture, and survival as much as alchemy.
History
Formula and divine monopoly
Charles explains that the potion requires water from Granada, soil from the Pit, and a Moonshine Flower petal from the Eternal Garden in addition to other rare materials. Mauriss, Helmuth, and Kaelith control those sources, allowing the old Gods to restrict the creation of new Demi-Gods and thereby prevent future rivals from reaching Godhood. Even a talented Monarch cannot bypass the potion, while an unqualified bloodline cannot use the potion to manufacture missing potential. (Chapter 678)
Aegon Veyr obtains the first two main ingredients under extreme pressure: Raymond gives him one five-petaled Moonshine Flower, with each petal sufficient for one dose, and Veyr later gathers death-saturated soil during the Pit battle. Leo Skyshard initially fails to steal Granada's water, then wins the right to collect it by defeating Mauriss in their contracted game at the cost of a finger wounded by Origin Metal. Their combined procurement breaks the resource monopoly, but the single flower limits the immediate run to five attempts if no brew fails. (Chapters 753, 963, 1037–1045, and 1060–1083)
Five-dose production run
Leo commissions Brahim and the Cult's Supreme Potion Masters to produce five vials. The first documented brew purifies Granada water under stabilized pressure, prepares it with powdered soulroot, voidmint essence, and dragon marrow suspension, separates a Moonshine Flower petal's outer luminance from its nectar core, and processes Pit soil into a suspension so its death density does not poison the formula. Additional catalysts, alternating reductions, reheating, and final filtration produce a dense golden-violet potion measured at more than 99.4 percent purity. (Chapter 1085)
The chapter explicitly completes the first vial and says four more are required; later scenes confirm at least two additional finished doses when Leo awards them at the tournament. The supplied evidence does not individually document the completion or fate of every intended vial, so the five-dose plan should not be read as a complete custody log. Unlike lower-tier breakthrough potions, however, finished Demi-God doses can remain stored for up to half a millennium without losing potency. (Chapters 1083, 1085, and 1094)
Ascension and tournament awards
Leo consumes the first completed dose on Moltherak's reinforced floating island, chosen because it can withstand Demi-God pressure and isolate a dangerous failure. The potion violently overloads his mana-bearing cells, forcing him to vent excess energy through repeated attacks while divine essence replaces mana as their sustaining force. He survives the transformation and becomes a Demi-God with a more stable constitution and the capacity to interact directly with spatial laws. (Chapters 1086–1088)
For two further doses, Leo follows Veyr's proposal to hold a tournament rather than assign every potion by family preference. Veyr, competing as Commander Sparrow, and Leonardo win the semifinal rewards and receive one vial each. Their acts of drinking are not narrated directly, but both are subsequently confirmed as Demi-Gods, supporting successful use without establishing that their internal transformations matched Leo's in every detail. (Chapters 1083–1084, 1092–1094, 1148, and 1150)
Abilities and properties
- The potion enables a qualified Monarch to attempt the transition to Demi-God by initiating the replacement of cellular mana dependence with divine essence. In Leo's observed breakthrough, it causes extreme internal pressure and mana-circuit overload before stabilizing his cells, increasing bodily durability and power output, and enabling direct interaction with universal laws. The corpus demonstrates this mechanism through Leo and does not claim every recipient experiences an identical sequence. (Chapters 1086–1088)
- Consumption does not guarantee survival or compensate for inadequate qualifications. A candidate needs suitable Divine-God ancestry as well as mastery of aura and intent; Charles states that roughly seventy percent of attempts are fatal and estimates that only one in one hundred thousand Monarchs succeeds. The potion is therefore a required catalyst, not a safe promotion or substitute for preparation. (Chapter 678)
- Each dose consumes Granada water, processed Pit soil, and one Moonshine Flower petal plus auxiliary herbs, catalysts, stabilizers, and reactive minerals. One flower supplies five petals, making it the immediate bottleneck even after Leo and Veyr obtain enough water and soil for many future brews. (Chapters 678, 753, 963, 1083, and 1085)
- Manufacturing is sensitive to contamination, pressure, temperature, sequencing, and the balance of life, death, and transcendental forces. The Moonshine component briefly makes the brew surge, while improperly prepared Pit soil would poison the potion's structure. A failed batch would consume materials whose divine sources are tightly controlled, so Brahim replaces tools, sterilizes the chamber, rejects imperfect components, and coordinates multiple Supreme Masters. (Chapter 1085)
- A completed potion can retain potency for as long as five hundred years, unlike Monarch- and Transcendent-tier breakthrough potions that are most effective when freshly brewed. This permits reserve storage and delayed awards, although the corpus does not separately trace every planned dose after production. (Chapter 1083)
Ownership and custody
| Holder or custodian | Relationship to the item |
|---|---|
| Cult Supreme Potion Masters | Temporary production custodians under Brahim; the first documented vial reaches over 99.4 percent purity. |
| Leo Skyshard | Controls the gathered ingredients, commissions the production run, consumes the first completed vial, and awards two later doses. |
| Aegon Veyr | Helps obtain the Moonshine Flower and Pit soil, wins a tournament dose as Commander Sparrow, and is later confirmed to have reached Demi-God. |
| Leonardo | Wins and receives the second tournament dose, then appears at Demi-God rank in later chapters. |
| Cult reserve | Intended custody for doses not immediately consumed or awarded; individual recipients and final disposition are not fully traced in the supplied evidence. |
