Dumpy

Biography

Companion, disciple, and growing beast

Dumpy enters Leo Skyshard's life as an Ancient Swamp Frog hatched from an egg and raised in a government facility. During two years of separation he refuses every attempt to harvest his poison because he recognizes only Leo's authority, a decision that gets him turned into a combat animal. He nevertheless reaches the Transcendent tier and survives 304 arena fights undefeated. When they reunite, his request is not for release or reward but permission to resume his place on Leo's shoulder, establishing strength and dependence as equally important parts of their bond. (Chapters 253, 400)

His devotion immediately becomes protective action. When Charles abducts Leo, Dumpy detects the intrusion, pursues, expands from a small frog into a hill-sized combat form, and manages to cut the much stronger swordsman before Charles disables him with a precise touch-based technique. Charles later trains him because his loyalty makes him a uniquely dependable safeguard for Leo. Dumpy's early progress is explosive—early to middle Transcendent in a month—but his large forms are slower targets, his defensive posture has gaps, and technical opponents repeatedly expose the difference between natural talent and disciplined fighting. (Chapters 405–406, 436, 503, 629–630)

Charles's most important correction is that Dumpy has been imitating human swordsmanship instead of fighting as a swamp frog. After beating him despite a palm-sized feint and sudden expansion, Charles tells him to combine elastic size changes, leaps, body weight, and poison rather than treating his species as an embarrassment. Dumpy takes the lesson into the Time-Stilled World, where he becomes a quieter guardian after Charles's death, protects settlement teams from mutants, and develops a species-native style capable of killing high Transcendent beasts quickly. Grief thus converts his wish to impress Leo into a broader duty to preserve the people Leo cannot personally shield. (Chapters 689, 694–695, 718)

That duty extends to Leo's household. While traveling with Amanda, Caleb Skyshard, Mairon, and Su Pei, Dumpy places himself between the family and every uncertain encounter. He refuses to bow even to Soron, accepts no master besides “Lord Father,” and delivers Charles's last letter while remaining ready to fight for the children. The posture is not symbolic: it shows that Charles's final mission and death have made Dumpy an autonomous custodian of Leo's family, even when Leo is absent and the person before him is a God. (Chapters 694–695, 822–826)

By the battle at the Pit, Dumpy has reached Monarch rank and no longer needs Leo to direct every choice. He initially remains beside the unconscious Leo at the medical ship, prioritizing the person over the campaign; once told that Leo will survive, he grows to roughly 250 feet and breaks the outer formation. Acid rain, giant blades, and a meteor-like landing kill massed troops, while Mana Nullification prevents even Monarch formations from properly gathering or shaping mana. He then shrinks to conserve energy as the nullification field weakens, showing that his maturation lies as much in managing costs and timing as in spectacular growth. (Chapters 916–919)

Demi-God, godslayer, and Beast King

Dumpy does not use a potion to become a Demi-God. Once his body reaches the limit of its rank, his beast bloodline automatically begins a long natural evolution that absorbs ambient mana and divine essence into flesh, organs, circuits, and blood. The process feels like being roasted from within, permits no rest or retreat, and requires him to remain conscious through weeks of escalating pain; collapse could close the path or cause regression. His years of combat and protection supply the bodily record needed to survive, while his stated purpose remains the same: becoming strong enough to stand beside Leo. (Chapter 1116)

Success leaves consequences rather than a clean upgrade. Dumpy needs nearly two years to stabilize his new body and learn to restrain its corrosive aura, while Cult engineers require a decade in accelerated time to build a swamp-lined craft that will not dissolve around him. His base form is permanently forty-five feet tall, with acidic skin and heat that he cannot fully suppress; even Leo's Demi-God body burns nearby and experiences disrupted divine flow. Dumpy can expand toward 450 feet, but he can no longer become shoulder-sized. His growth therefore costs him the ordinary physical closeness that once defined his companionship. (Chapters 1141, 1146–1147)

The breakthrough also evolves his battlefield role. Divine Essence Disruption interferes with the stability of divine techniques rather than erasing divine essence outright, making him a support fighter who creates lethal openings for others. Against Kaelith, his presence corrodes divine constructs and his Ancient Swamp River floods an escape route with corrosive sludge. Kaelith could survive temporary contact, but his danger sense forces him to evade into Veyr's prepared attack. Dumpy helps produce the kill without taking sole credit for it, demonstrating the cooperative judgment that distinguishes the adult protector from the boastful arena fighter. (Chapters 1147, 1153–1159)

The final war tests that role against Moltherak. Alone, Dumpy is outmatched by the ancient dragon's experience, Origin-metal teeth, Dragonfire, and raw force. With Aegon Veyr, however, his bloodline becomes decisive: Divine Essence Disruption detonates Cosmic Destruction in Moltherak's hand, while Mana Nullification prevents follow-up spells and conceals Dumpy's presence. Veyr absorbs attention and secretly passes him an Origin dagger; Dumpy then approaches unseen, destroys Moltherak's organs from behind, and drives the blade through his heart. The fatal act is Dumpy's, but it succeeds because he and Veyr divide the dragon's superior strength between complementary tasks. (Chapters 1185–1189, 1195)

Moltherak uses his final breath to name Dumpy the next Beast King, and what begins as a battlefield declaration becomes a recognized institution. Intelligent beast races rally to Dumpy's authority, and he builds a comparatively small but fiercely independent dominion whose worlds operate with near-complete autonomy from the Cult. He raises later generations of beast warriors without abandoning House Skyshard or his bond with Leo. His end state is therefore neither pet nor merely divine weapon: he remains a living Demi-God and family protector while becoming the ruler through whom beast species secure their own political space. (Chapters 1195–1196, 1199)

Appearance and personality

Dumpy's original light-green body can range from a palm-sized shoulder perch to combat forms fifteen, twenty, 150, or about 250 feet tall. He has bulbous yellow eyes, suctioned feet, elastic limbs, a long tongue, and a flexible body suited to sudden compression and expansion. Demi-God evolution permanently changes him into a forty-five-foot muddy-brown frog with pulsing black patches, golden eyes, corrosive slime, and an unstable presence; he can enlarge toward 450 feet but can no longer shrink below that base form. (Chapters 400, 402, 405, 436, 503, 689, 916–919, 1146–1147)

His speech combines comic self-abasement with immense confidence: he calls himself a “lowly creature” while declaring Leo superior to almost anyone and challenging figures far above his rank. That devotion is selective rather than servile, because he refuses orders that conflict with Leo's authority and later makes independent protective decisions. Charles's death tempers his loudness with grief, patience, and responsibility. By Demi-God rank he can accurately describe himself as a support fighter, yet his core remains unchanged—proud of his species, emotionally direct, and unwavering toward his chosen family. (Chapters 400, 503, 694–695, 718, 823, 916, 1147)

Abilities and power progression

Ancient Swamp Frog bloodline and ranks

Dumpy is an innate member of the Ancient Swamp Frog species, a bloodline historically shaped to hunt and counter dragons. He is already Transcendent when he physically reunites with Leo, advances rapidly under Charles, and is confirmed as a Monarch by the Pit campaign. At the peak of that rank, his body initiates a natural Demi-God evolution without an alchemical shortcut. The transformation converts a mortal vessel toward divine essence through prolonged absorption and physiological change, but it can fail through unconsciousness, insufficient constitution, or lack of will. His latest confirmed rank remains Demi-God; the title Beast King is political and martial recognition, not evidence of a later God-rank breakthrough. (Chapters 106, 400, 503, 916–919, 1116, 1199)

Size shifting, body combat, and weapons

Before his Demi-God evolution, Dumpy can compress to palm size or expand to at least 250 feet, mixing the change with explosive leaps, elastic reaches, tongue feints, body slams, and twin-sword attacks. About fifteen feet is his efficient anti-human fighting size: larger forms gain mass and destructive reach but sacrifice agility, expose a larger target, and drain enormous energy. After the breakthrough, forty-five feet becomes his minimum and roughly 450 feet his upper combat form. His corrosive skin can melt ordinary steel and later even damages reinforced environments, but technical timing, precise suppression, and more experienced fighters can still outmaneuver him. (Chapters 405–406, 436, 503, 629–630, 689, 916–919, 1146–1147)

Acid, venom, and swamp techniques

Ancient Swamp Frog venom is mana-based: it attacks mana pathways, ruptures circulation, generates unbearable internal heat, and can progress to organ failure, so mundane chemical remedies are not reliable counters. Dumpy applies this heritage through acidic spit, corrosive skin, poisonous fumes, battlefield-scale acid rain, and the Demi-God technique Ancient Swamp River. The river can traverse dimensional layers and melt terrain, while his ordinary secretions eventually become hazardous enough to destroy transport metals and living surroundings. These powers do not guarantee a kill against a God—Kaelith could have endured temporary exposure—and indiscriminate corrosion makes allies, equipment, and travel difficult without distance or specialized containment. (Chapters 106, 436, 650–651, 917–919, 1146, 1158)

Mana Nullification and Divine Essence Disruption

Mana Nullification is an innate bloodline ability that suppresses the pooling, channeling, and shaping of ambient mana within Dumpy's range. At the Pit it collapses Monarch-grade formations, but sustained suppression weakens and encourages him to reduce his size before ranged magic returns. He can also use the effect with enough precision to conceal himself and an Origin weapon. Demi-God evolution adds Divine Essence Disruption: rather than erasing divine essence, it creates a significant chance that nearby divine techniques destabilize during casting. The counter is distance, timing, or non-magical pressure; sufficiently durable Gods may survive Dumpy's corrosive output, while Moltherak remains stronger in direct exchanges until disruption creates openings for Veyr. (Chapters 917–919, 1146–1147, 1158, 1187–1189, 1195)

Representative combat role and latest state

Dumpy's strongest applications are combinations rather than isolated attacks. At the Pit, nullification removes formation defenses so that giant size, swords, and acid can reach massed soldiers. Against Kaelith, Ancient Swamp River controls movement for Veyr's ambush. Against Moltherak, disruption causes self-inflicted spell backlash, nullification denies recovery of the casting rhythm, and concealment delivers the decisive Origin strike. His mature role is thus a corrosive battlefield controller and protector who makes stronger opponents vulnerable. He survives the final battle, remains a Demi-God, and rules an autonomous beast dominion as Beast King. (Chapters 916–919, 1153–1159, 1187–1199)

Relationships

  • Leo Skyshard: Dumpy calls Leo “Lord Father” and treats him as parent, master, and the center of his chosen family. The relationship matures from shoulder-bound dependence into reciprocal trust: Dumpy guards Leo when he is helpless, protects his household in his absence, and eventually governs independently without surrendering that loyalty. (Chapters 400, 718, 822–826, 916, 1116, 1199)
  • Charles: Charles recognizes Dumpy as Leo's most reliable protector and teaches him discipline, tactical limits, and a species-native fighting style. Dumpy carries out Charles's final mission, preserves his letter, mourns him, and later joins Veyr in avenging him against Kaelith. (Chapters 503, 689, 694–695, 718, 823, 1158–1159)
  • Aegon Veyr: Veyr and Dumpy develop into complementary senior fighters. Veyr uses Dumpy's disruption against Kaelith, then trusts him with an Origin dagger and deliberately takes Moltherak's attention so that Dumpy can land the fatal blow. (Chapters 1153–1159, 1187–1195)
  • Amanda and Caleb Skyshard: Dumpy treats Leo's wife and children as charges rather than incidental companions, physically interposing himself around them and later supporting the House Skyshard faction. (Chapters 822–826, 1196)
  • Moltherak: Their clash revives the species-old opposition between swamp frogs and dragons. Moltherak initially dominates him, but Dumpy's evolved counters and Veyr's planning turn him into the dragon's executioner and recognized successor as Beast King. (Chapters 1185–1189, 1195–1199)

Items

  • Demi-God Breakthrough Potion: Dumpy explicitly does not use a potion. His beast body initiates a natural breakthrough, a slower and more painful process that absorbs ambient mana and divine essence over time and offers no controlled opportunity to stop and retry. (Chapter 1116)
  • Timeless Assassin's Origin Daggers: Veyr passes one dagger to Dumpy during the battle with Moltherak. Dumpy conceals it with Mana Nullification, uses its irreversible damage to destroy the Dragon King's organs and heart, and thereby lands the fatal strike. The dagger is a temporary battlefield weapon rather than Dumpy's regular equipment. (Chapter 1195)
