Moltherak
Biography
Sleeping Dragon King and reluctant ally
Moltherak first reaches Leo Skyshard as a soul-echo inside a mural in the Time-Stilled World. He identifies himself as the Beast of Wrath, the father and protector of dragons, and a king whose conquests once crossed galaxies, yet his greatest immediate wound is obscurity: more than three thousand years after the ancient Gods defeated and sealed him, even his name has largely vanished. Leo's Mana Heart lets him withstand the dragon's instinctive pressure, turning what begins as a test of submission into Moltherak's first serious interest in a modern human. (Chapters 320, 358)
That interest becomes a teacher-student exchange because Moltherak recognizes both an organ associated with dragonkind and a rare talent for perceiving aura. He explains that the Mana Heart constantly circulates and refines mana, repairs imperfections in a wielder's circuits, and supports unusually stable growth, while aura perception exposes intention, emotion, truth, and possible lines of action. His instruction also corrects Leo's history: the current Gods rose after killing or sealing ancient beast Gods and absorbing their fragments. In return for this knowledge, Moltherak asks Leo to seek a way to release him, and the two establish the basis of a future alliance. (Chapters 321–325)
When Leo later finds Moltherak's true soul on a floating island, the reunion shows how dangerous even the dragon's disembodied state remains: the ambient pressure of his awakening incapacitates Leonardo. Moltherak wants living dragons brought into the Time-Stilled World so that he can restore order to his species, but he also proposes a route to freedom. If Leo can bring a living God into the realm, Moltherak can contest and seize that body; in exchange, he swears that Leo's enemies will become his and that he will serve as sword and shield for life. His pride therefore yields to a binding bargain, not obedience. (Chapters 764, 768–771)
Moltherak supports the bargain by teaching Leo ancient fourth-dimensional travel. He implants a minute soul fragment as the medium for a spatial tunnel and teaches Leo to protect his mind with a tightly wrapped aura shield, but the process demands exceptional mana circuits, sustained energy, and precise control over the tunnel's angle. A mistake drags Leo toward a void capable of stripping identity and meaning; Moltherak rescues him once and warns that a second rescue may be impossible. He later condenses his aura into orbs that let Leo widen a tunnel for an entire fleet, although channeling even one orb nearly destroys Leo's circuits and body. (Chapters 772–773, 846–868, 905–906)
Leo ultimately delivers Helmuth into the Time-Stilled World, where Moltherak fights a patient war inside the Berserker God's soul rather than trying to overpower him at once. After waiting for Helmuth's resistance to exhaust itself, Moltherak erases the remaining opposition and reshapes the stolen body with his draconic essence. The new form's golden eyes, crimson hair, red-veined skin, and preference for enormous spells make the change visible. Moltherak then claims Draconia, reunites the diminished Dragon Empire, and honors his protection of the Cult by forcing Kaelith, Ru Vassa, and the other Great Clan Gods to retreat rather than risk his Origin-metal teeth. (Chapters 973, 977, 979, 983, 1044–1050)
Beast King challenge and final succession
Moltherak's restored empire initially turns his promise to Leo into strategic restraint. After the Cult kills Kaelith and Ru Vassa, he forbids his court from retaliating, explicitly citing the debt he owes Leo for his freedom and declaring that the Dragons will conquer elsewhere while their alliance holds. Yet the same policy reveals the collision ahead: he wants dragonkind to reclaim galactic dominance, and he understands that he and Leo may eventually run out of separate territory. Respect delays their conflict without resolving their incompatible ambitions. (Chapter 1164)
The Dragon Empire's rapid expansion exposes the difference between Moltherak's ability to win a battle and his ability to sustain a state. He pushes control beyond forty worlds despite too few dragons and too little administrative cohesion, leaving garrisons thin enough for the Great Clans and Mauriss to retake territory. When Moltherak answers by devastating Aqua Terrarium himself, his enemies exploit his absence to destroy Draconia. The loss is therefore a consequence of his conquest-first rule: overwhelming personal power cannot protect every world at once, and his opponents turn that limitation into leverage over the remaining dragon population. (Chapters 1172–1175)
Mauriss then threatens simultaneous attacks on every surviving Dragon world and offers a binding exchange: the attacks will stop if Moltherak fights one future opponent, at a time and place of Mauriss's choosing, while carrying his Origin-metal teeth. Moltherak recognizes the trap but accepts because pursuing one God would leave other dragon settlements open to extermination. He promptly tells Leo that the unnamed opponent will probably be him. The confession preserves their personal honesty even as the contract reverses their military alliance, and Leo answers that neither of them should hold back when the day comes. (Chapters 1176–1177)
In the final war, the contract places Moltherak against Dumpy, whom he recognizes as both an ancient swamp frog and a claimant to the identity of Beast King. Moltherak's experience, Dragonfire, spells, and Origin teeth overwhelm Dumpy in single combat, but Aegon Veyr joins him and turns the duel into a coordinated holding action. Dumpy's Divine Essence Disruption detonates Cosmic Destruction in Moltherak's hand, Mana Nullification collapses another spell, and Veyr exploits each opening. Their cooperation converts the very bloodline evolved to counter dragons into a practical answer to Moltherak's superior individual strength. (Chapters 1185–1189)
Veyr finally uses Moltherak's focus on Dumpy against him. He draws the Dragon King into a direct exchange, secretly passes an Origin dagger to Dumpy, and gives the frog time to conceal both himself and the weapon with Mana Nullification. Dumpy's stab destroys organs that Moltherak's regeneration cannot restore, then pierces his heart. Moltherak objects to the ambush but accepts the irreversible result; before dying, he names his killer the next Beast King. His succession is therefore neither voluntary retirement nor a simple defeat: Veyr creates the opening, Dumpy lands the fatal strike, and Moltherak recognizes the younger beast who proves capable of ending him. (Chapters 1195–1196)
Appearance and personality
In his original and soul forms, Moltherak is an immense crimson dragon with black horns, golden eyes, and runic scales, a presence so heavy that weaker observers can collapse before he deliberately attacks. After possessing Helmuth, he retains a humanoid frame but marks it with draconic traits: the eyes turn gold, the hair crimson, and red veins spread across the skin. The body is a captured vessel shaped by his essence rather than a resurrection of his original dragon body. (Chapters 320, 764, 768, 977–979)
Moltherak is proud, theatrical, violent, and intensely conscious of status. He destroys rulers he considers incompetent, treats large-scale combat as exhilaration, and permits a cruel Dragon court, yet his pride includes a strict concept of promises and worthy opposition. He keeps the Cult alliance while he believes its terms hold, warns Leo personally when coercion compromises it, and acknowledges Dumpy's victory at death. Those choices do not make him benevolent; they show that loyalty, kingship, and martial recognition are the principles through which he organizes his brutality. (Chapters 983, 1046–1049, 1091, 1164, 1177, 1195)
Abilities and power progression
Ancient dragon soul and divine vessel
Moltherak belongs to the first generation of beast Gods, remembered as the First Flame and progenitor of dragons. Ancient beast Gods possessed Demi-God bodies whose souls reached godhood, but Moltherak spends most of the narrative as a sealed soul rather than a complete combatant. His return depends on invading Helmuth's God-ranked body, exhausting its resident will, and reshaping the vessel with draconic essence. In that body he withstands divine attacks, regenerates severed limbs, fights several Gods, and travels directly through fourth-dimensional space. The exact degree to which the vessel reproduces every faculty of his original dragon body is not established. (Chapters 324, 358, 973, 977–979, 1046–1049, 1175, 1195)
Mana Heart lore and aura mastery
Moltherak's Mana Heart expertise comes from ancient dragon physiology: he describes the organ as a self-running mana engine that refines circulation, repairs circuit imperfections, improves resistance and recovery, and supports passive advancement only as far as the Monarch boundary. Advancement beyond that point still requires intent, mastery, and experience. The text establishes his knowledge of the organ and his recognition of Leo's, but does not explicitly confirm whether Helmuth's captured body acquires a physical Mana Heart. Moltherak's own aura mastery is direct: he reads emotional and intentional “strings,” exerts planetary-scale pressure, and can condense aura into transferable orbs. (Chapters 320–324, 769, 905–906, 1175)
Fourth-dimensional instruction and spatial travel
His ancient tunneling method presses against the third-dimensional boundary to open a corridor through folded fourth-dimensional space, allowing each step to cover roughly a thousand miles outside. A Monarch-grade body is the minimum he considers viable for the learner, while his implanted soul fragment provides a medium and the traveler supplies the mana. The technique burdens circuits, consumes fast mana stones, and requires an aura shield to keep spatial currents from tearing at the mind. Incorrect angles can cast the user into a void that erodes identity, and even direct God-level jumps require recovery after extreme distances. Once embodied, Moltherak opens such tunnels himself without Leo's training apparatus. (Chapters 772–773, 846–868, 1175)
Dragon magic, weapons, and counters
In Helmuth's body, Moltherak combines close-range draconic strength with large-area divine spells rather than Helmuth's axe-centered berserker style. Representative techniques include meteor-like Crimson Fall, Dragon King's Cataclysm, Cosmic Destruction, and Dragon Chomp; he also uses Dragonfire, spatial force, massive aura pressure, and rapid regeneration. His paired teeth, taken from his original dragon body and coated in Origin Metal, can threaten Gods who would otherwise ignore mortal weapons. His principal counters are equally explicit: Kaelith's Eternal Suppression can briefly constrain him, swamp-frog Mana Nullification and Divine Essence Disruption collapse his spell structures, and Origin weapons inflict damage his regeneration cannot reverse. His latest state is death after an Origin dagger destroys his organs and heart. (Chapters 979, 1046–1049, 1187–1189, 1195)
Power progression
| Stage / Realm / Ability | Chapter(s) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ancient beast-God soul — sealed | Before Chapter 320; revealed in 320–358 | Survives as the First Flame's God-level soul without a complete combat body; his ancient Demi-God dragon vessel is no longer available. |
| Helmuth possession / God-ranked vessel | 973–979 | Exhausts and erases Helmuth's soul, reshaping the captured God body with draconic essence and restoring direct divine combat access. |
| Fatal Origin wound | 1195 | Dumpy drives an Origin dagger through his organs and heart while Veyr disrupts his casting, permanently defeating the vessel and soul. |
Relationships
- Leo Skyshard: Leo begins as the unusual human who can face Moltherak's aura and becomes his student, liberator, and political ally. Moltherak genuinely respects his growth and keeps his word until Mauriss coerces him with the survival of dragonkind; even then, he warns Leo face to face before their forces become enemies. (Chapters 320–325, 768–773, 1164, 1177)
- Dumpy: Their species carry an ancestral predator-counter relationship, and Moltherak initially treats Dumpy as a younger challenger to the Beast King title. Dumpy's bloodline abilities frustrate his magic, while the frog's fatal Origin strike persuades Moltherak to name him successor. (Chapters 1185–1189, 1195–1196)
- Aegon Veyr: Moltherak possesses more raw power and experience, but Veyr supplies the tactical half of his defeat: he shares the pressure, engineers a distraction, passes the dagger, and keeps Moltherak's attention away from Dumpy. (Chapters 1187–1189, 1195)
- Helmuth: Helmuth is both prison and instrument. Moltherak invades his soul, waits out his resistance, and takes the God-ranked body that makes his return to the physical universe possible. (Chapters 973, 977–979)
- Mauriss: Mauriss first benefits from Moltherak's intervention against the Great Clan Gods, then destroys Draconia and coerces him into the final battle. Moltherak regards the agreement as binding but declares Mauriss an eternal enemy. (Chapters 1044–1050, 1175–1177)
Items
- Demi-God Breakthrough Potion: Moltherak does not use this potion in the supplied corpus. His ancient status derives from beast-era cultivation, and his restored God-ranked combat body is obtained by possessing Helmuth rather than by undergoing a potion-assisted breakthrough. (Chapters 324, 973–979)
