Lex Williams is the host of the Midnight Inn and the central figure through whom the establishment grows from an isolated two-story building into a realm-spanning refuge and political power. His early wish for excitement becomes an obligation to protect guests, workers, friends, and family, while his refusal to accept a prescribed limit drives an increasingly unconventional cultivation path. Biography

An unwilling host builds the Midnight Inn

Lex begins as a bored New Yorker whose ordinary career and hobbies no longer give him any sense of wonder. A shooting star answers his ironic wish for excitement by installing the Midnight Inn System, but the apparent opportunity immediately becomes coercive: the system expects him to open an inter-realm inn, attract guests, and cultivate despite his complete ignorance of the wider universe. Fear of exposing himself to stronger beings teaches him to separate the vulnerable man named Lex from the authoritative Innkeeper he presents to guests. (Chapters 1–4)

His first decisions establish the pattern that later defines him. Lex chooses Regal Embrace because its unification of body, spirit, and soul promises both unusual strength and a possible answer to his brain tumor. He spends scarce Midnight Points on facilities and Golden Keys, studies the needs of unpredictable guests, and recruits Gerard, Velma, and Z rather than trying to operate everything alone. Mary becomes the adviser who explains the system's rules, but Lex repeatedly tests her advice for loopholes, combining caution with a willingness to gamble when passivity would leave the Inn empty. The Inn's early crises turn hospitality into responsibility. Lex learns that treating visitors as guests can protect people whom the wider cultivation world regards as expendable, while attacks on the Inn reveal how little his system-granted authority helps once he leaves its protected grounds. He cultivates through pain, conceals his identity, and uses quests as opportunities to expand rather than as ends in themselves. Completing Body Tempering removes his tumor and unifies his three aspects, but the more important change is personal: he no longer seeks excitement merely to escape boredom, because other lives now depend on his judgment. Foundation, independence, and the Innkeeper persona

As Lex enters Qi Training and Foundation, he tries to prevent the Inn from remaining a fragile extension of his own weakness. He builds services, hosts large events, and delegates operations to workers whose competence increasingly exceeds the narrow roles the system assigned them. The Innkeeper persona helps him negotiate with cultivators and organizations that would dismiss his real cultivation, but maintaining the deception also isolates him: allies can trust the institution without knowing the human making its decisions, and enemies can attack Lex without realizing they are threatening the Inn's host. The World Seed Lotus changes both his cultivation and his conception of the Inn. Rather than accepting a routine Golden Core foundation, Lex permits the Lotus to use rare law-bearing materials and Divine Essence to rebuild it repeatedly. The process is dangerous and delays advancement, yet it produces a foundation vast and resilient enough to tolerate laws before his realm should allow it. His choice reflects an emerging conviction that a stable future is worth more than quick advancement, whether he is strengthening his own body or transforming a business into a home capable of sheltering people across worlds. When the Inn's star shift finally pushes him into Golden Core, the result no longer matches Regal Embrace. His core is exceptionally dense, and the laws incorporated into his foundation fuse with the technique's affinity. The deviation makes a conventional Nascent breakthrough almost suicidal, turning the reward for his careful preparation into a new obstruction. Lex refuses to abandon cultivation or surrender his future to that diagnosis. He uses Gelid Anima and further law-rich materials to stabilize the conflict, accepting that these measures only begin a longer reconstruction of his path. (Chapters 460–465, 500–501, and 611–627)

Dragons, the Temple of Fasting, and a remade soul

Dangerous work beyond the Inn exposes Lex to powers he cannot imitate through system authority. In a dragon's domain he endures Dragon's Might, absorbs part of its pressure, and develops the aura he names Domination. What begins as resistance becomes a tool for imposing his will, altering how weaker minds perceive him, and later carrying law, karma, Primordial weight, and Dao aura. The experience also reinforces a broader lesson: his best advances often come from studying a hostile force closely enough to make its principle part of himself rather than merely surviving it. Cassandra's instruction at the Temple of Fasting gives that improvisation structure. Ordinary training plans fail against Lex's endurance and Flow state, so she designs escalating trials that force him to understand space, divine energy, laws, and the weaknesses of his own soul. Lex values her expertise without accepting discipleship as obedience; when the temple's secrets or Ra's corruption threaten him, he investigates their motives and acts independently. Cassandra's warning that his soul cannot support a conventional Nascent path confirms the danger he already suspects, but it also pushes him to define advancement on his own terms. The birth of the Midnight Realm gives Lex the environment and pressure he needs to complete that reinvention. His evolved method turns the unity created by Regal Embrace into a new survival principle: his physical being can enter a soul-state, and destruction is no longer final so long as a fragment remains. The breakthrough to Nascent therefore changes more than his energy. It makes the soul the durable continuity of his identity, a development that later permits Jack's existence and ultimately allows Lex to survive in the Divine Ore Necklace after the apparent loss of his main body. A second body, family rescues, and immortality

Lex's fairy second body begins as an extraordinary extension of the same soul rather than an independent person. He names it Jack Daniels and allows its different meridians and racial nature to develop along a path distinct from his human body. Managing two bodies expands his reach but also complicates identity: Jack can act independently and build separate relationships, yet insight, oaths, and some consequences pass through the shared soul. Lex ultimately treats that difference as valuable rather than forcing the fairy body to remain a disguised copy of himself. (Chapters 1046–1073, 1379, and 1444–1494)

His search for his sisters turns accumulated power into a family obligation. Lex finds Moon's original body fused catastrophically to Yildirim Utopia and rejects solutions that would save the body by extinguishing her soul. He uses Empyrean Resonance, his blood, the Inn's resources, and the Lotus's understanding to heal and transform the connection until the planet itself becomes Moon's Golden Core. The result does not wake her, but it replaces imprisonment and deterioration with a path toward recovery, teaching Lex that rescue may mean rebuilding the conditions of a life rather than producing an immediate happy ending. At the peak of Nascent, Lex's suppressed ascension becomes impossible to contain. He chooses a tenet, withstands the first Earth Immortal tribulation, and then crosses multiple levels in rapid succession during the Trial of Eternity. The new status gives him enough authority to find Liz, stop the forces pursuing her, and offer the Midnight Inn without demanding obedience or affection in return. His proposal that she bond with the Sovereign Nemo carries enormous risk, but he leaves the decision to them and protects the process once they consent. Masterless cultivation and the burden of protection

Earth Immortality does not settle Lex's path. His many laws, physiques, affinities, and identities look incoherent from the perspective of conventional techniques, so the Masterless approach becomes a declaration that his cultivation will follow his own will rather than remain bounded by Regal Embrace or any inherited doctrine. He uses seals to control advancement, studies forms and laws in environments such as Abaddon, and keeps refining a path capable of integrating apparent contradictions. Its strength is adaptability; its weakness is the absence of a safe precedent, leaving Lex responsible for discovering every threshold and mistake himself. (Chapters 1511, 1598, 1615, and 1677–1679)

The same period deepens his responsibility toward the Inn's people. Lex increasingly treats workers as family and dispatches himself or Jack when their missions expose them to threats beyond their formal realms. His oath to save those close to him awakens Paladin power, which also manifests through Jack because they share a soul. Unlike a temporary technique, the power grows from fulfilled vows and the will to protect or avenge. It makes his promises materially consequential, but it also means that the burden he accepts cannot be separated cleanly from his strength. (Chapters 1652–1716 and 1971–1972)

Lex's relationship with the system also changes from anxious compliance to negotiation. Discovering that Mary is the surviving soul remnant of a previous host confirms that the friendly interface has a history and that systems are neither neutral nor omnipotent. He continues using the Inn's authority, but he insists on understanding costs, withholding trust when rules obscure motives, and building institutions that can function without his constant presence. Gerard's independent command and Mary's institutional memory become evidence that the Inn is no longer only a power attached to Lex; it is a community whose survival depends on shared responsibility. Heaven Immortal and the Primordial path

Lex eventually stops suppressing his second major tribulation and becomes a Heaven Immortal. The breakthrough tests body, spirit, soul, laws, and will rather than granting a simple increase in energy. His cultivation then accelerates from early levels to peak Heaven Immortal, but formal realm no longer captures his effective power: Domination carries increasingly complex influences, his soul-state makes conventional destruction unreliable, and his foundation supports attacks and defenses that can inconvenience or defeat beings above his stated stage. The Primordial Garden forces Lex to cultivate under another kind of restriction. Its rules limit how much of his existing strength he can express, so survival depends on adapting his body to Primordial energy, blessings, and materials instead of overpowering every obstacle. The process begins a Primordial Dao Body and adds Primordial weight to his aura, while encounters with stronger beings expose how far he remains from true Dao-level mastery. Rather than treating those limits as humiliation, Lex uses them as research, accepting pain and slow integration for advantages that can support his long-term path. Confronting Leon and Serene reframes his childhood and innate physique. Their revelations explain that his body was deliberately created from rare materials and that the apparent normality of his family life depended on clones, hiding methods, and compromises made under Damian's pressure. Lex refuses to let explanation become absolution: he recognizes what his parents attempted while judging the harm caused by secrecy and control. He ends the confrontation by improving them with Empyrean Resonance, then assumes responsibility for Belle, Liz, and Moon himself. The choice preserves care without restoring automatic trust. The Dream crisis, bodily loss, and the Gilded Hollow

When the Dream Realm begins swallowing the Inn's workers and guests, Lex cannot solve the crisis from a safe administrative distance. He prepares equipment, creates protections against dream influence, and uses remote projections, the Midnight Battalion, and the Dreamy Mirror to establish access. The campaign reveals both the reach and the limitations of the Inn: it can gather extraordinary allies and tools, but the Dream Realm can disrupt keys, tracking, system contact, and ordinary assumptions about identity. Lex therefore treats rescue as a problem of logistics and understanding as much as personal force. (Chapters 2186–2241)

His confrontation with Daekol ends in a defeat that strips away nearly every comfortable definition of survival. The attack destroys or severs his main body and cuts him off from the Inn, but a contingency prepared in the Divine Ore Necklace preserves his soul and cultivation foundation. At first the vessel can express only roughly third-level Qi Training energy, leaving a peak Heaven Immortal mind and foundation inside a small artificial body. Lex does not treat this as a return to the beginning. He assumes the identity of Cliff, mentors River and Pearl, and uses their progress to study Paladin cultivation while rebuilding himself without exposing what remains of the Innkeeper. Over years of altered time, Lex reinforces the necklace until it can contain an artificial or fake realm. He applies the Lotus's world-building principles, Taro's Journal, spatial mastery, and memories of the Midnight Realm's birth to construct internal land, seas, and law-bearing supports. This reconstruction turns apparent regression into a new material evolution: his available energy remains a constraint, but the vessel's stability and his accumulated techniques allow capabilities far above an ordinary Heaven Immortal. The project is also strategic, meant to give him a foundation for revenge and a route back toward those he was separated from. (Chapters 2328–2361)

At the supplied endpoint Lex enters the Gilded Hollow, cooperates with Pelagor and a black dragon, and pursues resources whose Dao-level aura would normally be lethal. A Primordial pond improves both his Dao Body and necklace, while the Primordial Farham Eggshell and remaining Genesis Dew become parts of a dangerous attempt to approach the Double Yang Disaster Rose. He has not recovered his original body or entered the Celestial realm, but his latest position is active rather than defeated: a peak Heaven Immortal foundation is building a stranger, tougher vessel while continuing to intervene in a universe that believes him gone. Appearance and personality

Lex is introduced as an ordinary young man whose developing tumor is invisible beneath an otherwise healthy life. Regal Embrace progressively rebuilds him, increasing physical strength and eventually unifying body, spirit, and soul. Later transformations can make him appear draconic, devilish, or overwhelmingly authoritative, while the Host Attire and masks let him control how guests interpret the Innkeeper. These presentations are functional identities rather than evidence that his human self has disappeared. After Chapter 2245, his active material form is the Divine Ore Necklace, from which he can project the figure known as Cliff. (Chapters 1–7, 180, 781, 1081, and 2245–2258)

Curiosity, improvisation, and a compulsion to search for loopholes define Lex's decision-making. He enjoys style, spectacle, and absurd solutions, but the humor frequently conceals calculation: he uses confidence to prevent stronger opponents from recognizing uncertainty and turns hospitality into leverage without abandoning its protective meaning. Repeated betrayals make him suspicious of institutions and hidden motives, yet he remains willing to trust individuals whose actions earn it. His strongest continuity is a refusal to accept a supposedly fixed outcome, whether the obstacle is a terminal illness, a cultivation dead end, a system restriction, or the loss of his body. His protectiveness is both virtue and burden. Lex gives workers autonomy, offers his sisters choices denied by their family, and repeatedly risks himself for guests or strangers. At the same time, he can be controlling when fear for someone overwhelms his respect for their independence, and the Innkeeper persona encourages him to shoulder problems alone. The Paladin path makes this tension literal: promises to protect increase his power, but every oath also expands the circle of people whose suffering he experiences as a personal failure. Abilities and cultivation

Midnight Inn System and host authority

The Midnight Inn System gives Lex access to an inter-realm hospitality establishment, its design interface, quests, store, staff contracts, and host-only functions. Wearing the Host Attire within the Inn makes many operations immediate, allowing him to alter facilities, move through the property, regulate services, and present a controlled Innkeeper identity. Golden Keys and later doors extend the Inn's reach, while the system protects guests under its rules. These are institutional powers rather than innate cultivation: loss of connection, realm interference, host-level restrictions, or absence from the Inn can block them. (Chapters 2–9, 29, 370, and 625)

Lex develops operational mastery by combining system functions in ways their descriptions do not prescribe. He uses hospitality rules as protection, quests as development funding, events as recruitment, and remote projections as both diplomacy and investigation. The same creativity creates risks because the system does not explain every consequence, and stronger entities can interact with its projections or domains in unexpected ways. His later insistence on autonomous staff, emergency procedures, and a realm capable of supporting the Inn reflects awareness that no single interface should be the establishment's only point of failure. At the latest point, system contact is severed from Lex's necklace vessel. Mary and the workers continue operating the Inn, but he cannot simply invoke host authority from the Gilded Hollow. The loss sharply separates the power of the Innkeeper from Lex's surviving personal capabilities. It also demonstrates why he invested in cultivation, relationships, and contingencies: the system remains central to his role, but his soul, will, techniques, and artificial body can continue acting outside its reach. Regal Embrace, the Masterless technique, and soul-state survival

Regal Embrace begins by altering Lex's body, spirit, and soul in separate procedures and then fusing them into one whole. The method removes his tumor, strengthens every aspect together, and establishes the unusual unity underlying later transformations. Qi Training builds discrete quantities of Qi; Foundation expands and stabilizes the base; and the law-saturated Golden Core pushes the technique outside its intended design. That deviation supplies exceptional potential but initially makes Nascent advancement almost certainly fatal, requiring Lex to evolve the method rather than follow it unchanged. Gelid Anima and other law-rich resources help replace incompatible elements, while the Midnight Realm's birth supplies the conditions for a reconstructed Nascent transition. The evolved technique lets Lex move his unified existence into a soul-state. In practical terms, physical destruction is not necessarily fatal if even a fragment carrying his continuity survives, and he can become intangible or interact through the soul where circumstances permit. This is not invulnerability: soul attacks, corruption, seals, realm rules, and overwhelming conceptual forces can still threaten him, and restoration requires energy and a viable surviving anchor. The Masterless technique becomes the broader framework for everything Regal Embrace can no longer contain. It is all-encompassing rather than tied to a single conventional affinity, allowing Lex to integrate laws, multiple physiques, Domination, Primordial energy, and his developing Dao Body. Its concealment makes his traces difficult to follow, but it does not make his cultivation invisible to someone directly examining him, nor does it protect him automatically from a Dao Lord who specifically searches for him. With no established manual for his combination, every advancement demands experimentation and self-imposed seals. (Chapters 1511, 1598, 1679, 1988–2011, 2226, and 2247)

Empyrean Resonance and adaptive physiques

Empyrean Resonance is Lex's original physique, later revealed as an engineered inheritance built from extraordinarily rare material. Its clearest active function is to stimulate beneficial evolution in humanoid beings through crimson energy. Lex uses it to improve workers, heal or evolve members of his family, and repair parts of Moon's damaged body-soul-planet relationship. The effect is not a precise editing tool: the target's nature determines the resulting evolution, and Lex cannot guarantee every outcome merely because the change is beneficial. (Chapters 460, 1045, 1214–1217, and 1977–1992)

Exposure to bloodlines and rare resources adds further physical traits, including an affinity for dragons and phoenixes and the capacity to enter specialized forms. Dragon-form applications increase strength and align naturally with Domination, but some transformations require a material trigger such as Jorlam blood and can be restricted by environments that suppress identity or race. The later Primordial Dao Body does not replace Empyrean Resonance; it attempts to unify these divergent adaptations into a body capable of carrying Dao-grade qualities without collapsing under them. Domination

Domination develops when Lex endures and absorbs part of a dragon's Dragon's Might. It is fundamentally his aura shaped by will: early uses suppress opponents, bend attention away from him, and impose emotional or physical pressure. With study, he can narrow it to a gaze, spread it over a battlefield, alter the sensation it produces, or use it as a medium for other effects. Its force depends on Lex's cultivation, will, and the qualities integrated into his path rather than on a fixed command that every target must obey. (Chapters 769–807 and 844–846)

Later Domination carries law, karma, Primordial aura, and traces of Dao weight. It can crush weaker structures, disrupt formations, pressure Earth and Heaven Immortals, and help establish a karmic connection for attacks that follow. Against entities near or above Lex's true limit it becomes pressure rather than absolute control, and certain corruption can exploit the aura's expanded surface instead of being repelled. He therefore learns to dismiss it when an interaction becomes harmful rather than assuming his signature presence is universally protective. (Chapters 1281, 1872, 1991, and 2008–2011)

The latest necklace state preserves Domination as part of Lex's peak-Heaven foundation, but reduced immediately available energy limits how freely he can express it. Rebuilding the vessel and its internal realm gives the aura a more stable material base, while further Primordial Dao Body development increases its qualitative weight. No chapter confirms that Domination alone grants Celestial cultivation; its ability to threaten stronger opponents is an exceptional application of an underlying Heaven Immortal state. Space, laws, formations, and combat integration

Lex's affinity for space develops from repeated teleportation, observation of realm structures, Cassandra's training, and direct study through his unusual eyes. He can Blink across short distances, sense or interfere with spatial arrangements, construct formations rapidly, and later use karma to deliver effects to distant or concealed targets. His right eye is especially useful for analyzing or assembling formations, while his left eye perceives laws and hidden structures. Neither eye supplies omniscience: overwhelming beings, Dao-level targets, misleading karma, or phenomena outside his comprehension can resist or punish inspection. (Chapters 749–807, 907–915, 1287–1292, and 2008–2013)

In combat he combines these senses with sword intent, seals, soul attacks, Domination, and equipment rather than relying on a single decisive move. A sword strike can carry cultivation seals; aura can create the karmic contact that lets a later attack reach a soul; formations can defend while he studies an opponent's lawcraft. This versatility explains why his effective threat exceeds a normal cultivator of the same stage, but it also requires attention and energy. Prepared enemies, race-specific methods, dream logic, or a vast realm difference can disrupt the chain before its interacting parts take effect. (Chapters 1208, 1287–1292, and 2008–2011)

Paladin power

Lex awakens Paladin power through an oath to save those close to him. The path converts resolve and fulfilled protective promises into green, holy or divine-tinged power that can reinforce his body, form weapons, suppress hostile forces, and support acts of protection or vengeance. Because Jack shares Lex's soul, the oath can manifest through the fairy body as well, allowing Jack to overcome race-based suppression even before he formally adopts Paladin advancement as his own route. (Chapters 1699–1716 and 1971–1972)

The power is conditional in a moral and practical sense. It does not grow from repeating empty declarations; progression follows vows that are sincerely accepted and fulfilled through difficulty. Lex's later study of River and Pearl shows him treating the path as a possible cultivation system whose obstacles can be overcome through sacrifice, service, and redemption as well as combat. After his bodily defeat, Paladin power remains one of the strongest parts of his peak-Heaven foundation and a principal means of acting while the necklace's ordinary energy supply is limited. Primordial Dao Body and necklace vessel

Lex begins forming a Primordial Dao Body by adapting to Primordial energy and integrating Dao-grade or Primordial materials into his already mixed physique. The project gives his attacks and aura qualitative weight beyond ordinary Heaven Immortals and helps him resist environments that would suppress lesser bodies. Progress is slow, painful, and dangerous. Dao-grade integration can trigger periodic Dao Body tribulations, and Serene warns that a later Fate tribulation is fixed rather than scaled kindly to the cultivator. The the story never show the Dao Body reaching completion. (Chapters 1883–1890, 1988, and 2008–2010)

The Divine Ore Necklace was prepared as a contingency using Lex's flesh, blood, soul connection, and regenerative divine metal. After Daekol's attack, it becomes his active vessel. Its initial energy resembles only third-level Qi Training, but its toughness reflects the true body's foundation, and Lex gradually reconstructs it into a self-contained artificial realm. This is a material change rather than a confirmed realm regression: his peak Heaven Immortal foundation and accumulated insights remain, while available energy, bodily interfaces, and access to the Inn are sharply reduced. By the latest chapters the necklace contains an increasingly stable fake realm supported by law-bearing structures and the Lotus's world-building principles. A Primordial pond improves both vessel and Dao Body, and the internal space stores resources such as Genesis Dew for further refinement. The vessel can project a humanlike presence and endure threats that would annihilate ordinary material, but it remains an unfinished substitute, not proof of Celestial advancement or complete recovery. Relationships

• Mary: Mary begins as Lex's system guide and becomes his adviser, confidante, and principal interpreter of the Inn's restrictions. Discovering her identity as a previous host's soul makes their trust more deliberate: Lex no longer treats her as a neutral interface, while Mary continues to challenge his risks and preserve the Inn when he is absent.
• Jack Daniels: Jack is Lex's fairy second body and shares his soul, memories, and some breakthroughs while developing a distinct material body, cultivation route, and social identity. Lex increasingly treats those differences as an advantage rather than reducing Jack to a disposable extension, even though danger or advancement affecting one incarnation can still reach the other. • Moon: Lex's effort to save Moon turns his protective instinct into a long-term reconstruction of her damaged body-soul bond. He refuses solutions that would erase her, helps transform Yildirim Utopia into her Golden Core, and later enters her dream to preserve the conscious reflection that still survives while her main body remains asleep.
