Gerard
Gerard is one of the Midnight Inn's first two summoned workers and eventually becomes its head of security. His unshakable hospitality, tactical judgment, and repeatedly evolving Regalia Bloom bloodline turn an apparently elderly attendant into one of the Inn's most trusted leaders and formidable defenders.
Biography
From attendant to defender
Lex names Gerard when the Inn has only two workers and assigns him to handle guest requests. Gerard approaches even bizarre visitors with the same smooth courtesy, guiding Bastet to her room, driving guests around the grounds, and noticing needs that Lex overlooks. That service ethic is not empty formality: when a zombie brings two dying people into the Inn, Gerard calls attention to their survival and ensures Lex treats them as guests rather than debris from a fight. (Chapters 4–6, 29, and 168)
Cultivation transforms the scale of his responsibility. Gerard races to the peak of Qi Training within months, awakens Regalia Bloom, and interrupts personal retreats when the Inn or its guests need him. During the Raskal attack he uses a golf cart as the medium for his bloodline, channeling and redirecting energy against enemies several realms above him. Exhaustion and the limits of his vehicle remain real constraints, but his decisions protect weaker people and demonstrate that his power is inseparable from the objects and duties he chooses to carry. (Chapters 217, 224, and 250–256)
His bloodline evolves repeatedly, magnifying both combat ability and an unwanted physical attractiveness that draws attention away from his work. Gerard treats that side effect as a burden rather than a reward. More consequentially, the attacks and Lex's periods of incapacity force him beyond individual service: stress visibly ages him when the Inn suffers, and he assumes responsibility for workers and guests when the host cannot intervene. (Chapters 384, 411–413, 460, 528, and 535)
Security leadership and the Inn's wider wars
Gerard founds Umbragard as the security house of the Inn, giving its guardians a shared identity and command structure. In the Midnight Battalion he passes orders, manages rotations, and refuses to abandon an operation merely because outside commanders do not understand what his people are protecting. His authority rests on calm competence rather than rank alone: others look to him when conditions deteriorate because he can judge when to investigate quietly, when to evacuate, and when to commit the full force under his command. (Chapters 620, 665–666, and 830–839)
Later missions show a leader still interested in mastery rather than comfort. Gerard studies how his bloodline moves energy through objects, accepts hostile environments as training, and uses specially tailored clothing as a channel when surrounding radiation would overwhelm ordinary cultivators. Multiple evolutions grant extraordinary control but not immunity; prolonged manipulation strains him, and he remains willing to retreat or adapt instead of confusing exceptional talent with invulnerability. (Chapters 1065–1070, 1418, and 1452–1455)
By the latest period Gerard's reputation combines strength, wisdom, charm, and institutional trust. He remains the person Lex chooses when a delicate security crisis requires independent command. Rumors that his meditation is preparation for the Heaven Immortal realm are not confirmed, but his encounter with the dark bird entity demonstrates that he still evaluates his own mistakes rather than resting on reputation. His latest role is therefore not simply the strongest attendant: he is a senior protector expected to absorb uncertainty and keep the Inn functioning when its master is elsewhere. (Chapters 1747, 1937, and 2191–2192)
Appearance and personality
Gerard is introduced with the appearance of an old man and the polished manner of a traditional attendant. Cultivation and Regalia Bloom progressively reverse visible age and make him exceptionally handsome without diminishing his mature bearing. The bloodline's involuntary beautification embarrasses him because admirers interfere with his work; periods of severe stress can restore signs of age, visibly connecting his appearance to both power and emotional burden. (Chapters 4, 217, 411, 535, and 1069)
He is courteous, patient, and meticulous, but not meek. Gerard can refuse outside orders, command a battlefield, or confront enemies far above his realm when his responsibilities require it. He prefers competent preparation and calm service to display, and his private uncertainty over relationships or mistakes contrasts with the reassuring figure most workers see. (Chapters 250–256, 665, 830–839, 1747, and 2191–2192)
Abilities and cultivation
Regalia Bloom
Regalia Bloom allows Gerard to channel, redirect, and manipulate energy through objects he touches. A golf cart can become both shield and weapon; a tailored suit can conduct hostile environmental energy away from his body; and fine control can support forging or other precision work. The medium matters, and sustained loads exhaust him, so his best applications combine a suitable object with tactical positioning rather than producing limitless power without cost. (Chapters 250–256, 528, 1070, 1452–1455, and 1937)
The bloodline undergoes multiple evolutions with no predictable method. Each change increases Gerard's reach and control, enabling him to contend with enemies whose formal cultivation greatly exceeds his own. Its persistent cosmetic effect makes him more handsome after every evolution, an unusual limitation because unwanted attention obstructs the discreet service and security work he values. (Chapters 250, 384, 460, 528, 535, and 1418)
Cultivation, command, and combat judgment
Gerard advances from a newly summoned worker to peak Qi Training with extraordinary speed and continues cultivating alongside his bloodline development. His later exact realm is not consistently stated in the the story, and rumors of an imminent Heaven Immortal breakthrough remain speculation. Independently of rank, his battlefield value includes energy perception, measured risk-taking, staff command, and an ability to recognize when protecting others matters more than defeating an enemy outright. (Chapters 217, 250–256, 620, 830–839, and 2191–2192)
Power progression
| Stage / Realm / Ability | Chapter(s) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mortal system worker | 4 | Initial generated-worker status. |
| Qi Training | 167 | Special abilities already distinguish him from ordinary workers. |
| Peak Qi Training | 217, 250 | His age regresses physically while his bloodline approaches and then undergoes evolution. |
| First bloodline evolution | 250, 252 | Within a sensed zone he can control/redirect energy through a selected item, enabling Nascent-scale contribution despite Qi Training; stamina and body remain limits. |
| Second bloodline change/evolution | 460, 1070 | The Inn star shift advances the bloodline instead of the cultivation realm; later text confirms two evolutions total by that point. |
| Multiple later activations/mutations; ambient energy control internalized | 1418, 1452 | Gerard can control surrounding energy even without a fresh activation, indicating that bloodline traits have become persistent. |
| Late Earth Immortal, approaching peak | 2030 | First unambiguous late formal checkpoint after off-page intermediate realm crossings. |
| Earth Immortal, likely late; Heaven breakthrough only rumored | 2191 | He returns from retreat and faces threats above an average Earth Immortal's level; rumor says he may be preparing for Heaven, but no breakthrough is shown. |

Items
Gerard's finalized top-character inventory contains no separate notable item page. His equipment matters chiefly as a temporary channel for Regalia Bloom rather than as a unique persistent artifact.
