Percival

Percival is a former Demigod Academy Student Council president who becomes an Executioner, leader of the Apollo Clan, and one of Earth's principal defenders. His pride and competitive humor initially make him a foil for Neo Hargraves, but repeated crises turn rivalry into friendship and shared responsibility. His unusual command of Fate is eventually traced to a buried prior identity: Percival is a reincarnation of the Supreme Sun, a betrayed leader whose memories and power were sealed across successive lives.

Biography

Student Council president and rival senior

Percival is the Student Council president and Ruler of the academy's second year when he watches Neo's ranking-tournament performance beside Amelia de Beaufort. He is experienced enough to see how Neo might upset the expected result, but proud enough to keep emphasizing his own judgment when the prediction proves imperfect. During the entrance ceremony, he cuts off Neo's inflammatory speech, resumes the official program, and uses precisely controlled aura to silence a disturbance without disrupting the rest of the hall. His vanity coexists from the beginning with real administrative control. (Chapters 46, 52, and 54–55)

That control becomes practical during the Calamity Window, when Percival mobilizes students and reports that evacuation is proceeding smoothly. Neo's return from the Window frightens him: Neo has no heartbeat despite moving under a powerful Death presence, and Percival instinctively orders weapons raised. The experience sharpens their competitive tension. When Neo later completes the Student Council test within seconds of Percival's record, Percival insists his own time would have been better under sunlight, yet still admits Neo as a Disciplinary Officer and gives him the council ring. Wounded pride does not stop him from applying the institution's result. (Chapters 123, 148, and 150)

Percival's academy identity is built around exceptional promise. He boasts that he achieved Mythic Divine Energy purity before enrollment and calls himself the most talented even when Amelia and other council members challenge him. The confidence is partly comic and partly defensive: Neo's ability to survive impossible situations unsettles the standards by which Percival measures himself. Their early relationship therefore establishes a pattern that persists later—Percival needles Neo, competes with him, and nevertheless recognizes when Neo's capabilities make cooperation more valuable than status. (Chapters 54–55 and 150)

Executioner in Tartarus

Years later Percival meets Neo as an Exalted Demigod, Apollo Clan Blessing Holder, Seraph, and one of the Sphinx's Executioners. His platinum-blond hair and True Soul Weapon hammer make his growth visually obvious, while the density of Apollo's Intent within him suggests a history deeper than a normal blessing. Percival's assigned mission is to find Ares's God Weapon and, if possible, the dead god's body. He bluntly tells the newly arrived Neo that the old gods are dead, then joins him, Olivia von Villiers, and Nicolas on the voyage into Tartarus. (Chapters 393–395)

Training with Neo and Kane Williams exposes both Percival's power and his limits. By calling Sunshine and invoking Apollo's Might, he temporarily reaches Grade 3 Exalted strength, but repeated deaths still punish careless solo attempts. He eventually accepts that asking for help is more useful than repeating a failed method alone. His Holy affinity and Sunshine's stronger Holy power also make him essential to Neo's proposed cure for Elizabeth's Void corruption, though Percival's own mastery and Divine Energy pool are initially insufficient for the purification. (Chapters 406, 409–413, and 417)

The mission separates him from the others when his Fate of Fortune detects that entering the Abyss of Nightmare will break his Fate of Life. The golden thread sacrifices itself to pull him through a violent Space passage, and Julie de Beaufort secretly reverses the damage before erasing the encounter from his memory. Outside the Nightmare, Percival uses the blessing of Artemis to establish that his companions are inside Tartarus's immense tree. He briefly merges with Sunshine through Divine Transformation's Spirit Form, but the burst leaves him exhausted, showing that mobility and insight still have heavy costs. (Chapters 456–457)

Sunshine then confronts Percival with forgotten lives in which cowardice and misplaced trust cost their companions everything. Percival is not ready to recover the memories, but he accepts the warning to act rather than surrender. By manipulating Fate, he temporarily draws Neo's soul into contact and helps him reason through the Nightmare's layered structure. He initially calls destroying it impossible; nonetheless, he continues supporting the attempt. His development in Tartarus lies in that contradiction: he can acknowledge hopeless odds without treating hopelessness as permission to abandon the people still inside. (Chapters 460–463)

Apollo Clan leader and defender of Neo's family

After the Tartarus era, the God Clans try to exploit instability around Henry Hargraves. Percival reveals power described as comparable to the Senators, forcibly takes leadership of the Apollo Clan, and sides with the Poseidon Clan in Henry's defense. He describes the decision as repaying a favor and warns that Neo must have left a guardian over his family. The warning is both strategic and personal: Percival uses his recovered authority to stop his own clan from turning a private crusade into another catastrophe. (Chapters 567–568)

Over the following war, Percival becomes one of the continent's leaders alongside Arthur, Morrigan di Montaigne, Amelia, and Mars Everhart. Arthur and Mars reach Exalted Demigod yet cannot force Percival or Morrigan to reveal their full strength. Percival argues that society and clan conduct need attention even while the group searches for Sacred Treasures and a path beyond Exalted limits. His position is no longer the academy's ceremonial presidency; he is balancing military growth, political order, and the behavior of institutions he can now command. (Chapters 569–571)

Homecoming and recovered companionship

When Neo finally returns, Percival's confidence conceals loneliness. Neo notices how he speaks about the old mansion and invites him to breakfast with the wider group. The gesture restores an ordinary social bond after millennia defined by war, leadership, and incomplete memories. Percival also continues doing the less visible work of investigation: even he cannot identify the hidden actor manipulating events, but he passes what he knows about the Age of Gods to Arthur and helps persuade the group that Neo should no longer carry every threat alone. (Chapters 700–705 and 720)

This renewed friendship does not erase Percival's independent judgment. He joins the response to the Universal Alliance because Earth will be targeted regardless of whether its defenders retreat, and he travels as part of a team rather than as Neo's subordinate. His role within the group is now informational and connective as much as martial. He turns pieces of inaccessible history into shared context, while Neo's recognition of his loneliness makes their bond reciprocal rather than another debt Percival must repay. (Chapters 715, 720, and 729–730)

Divine War, Supreme Sun identity, and protected isolation

Percival enters the Divine War nearly at Class level forty-nine, approaching but not yet confirmed at the Fifth Class advancement. Against Laplace, he manipulates Arthur's Fate to protect him from the Fate of Death. The intervention succeeds but turns Percival's eyes white, causes severe bleeding, and creates wounds Amelia cannot close. Even while blinded and barely standing, he continues reading the battle, warns Amelia that Laplace is withholding a crucial limitation, and hides Felix from the enemy's perception long enough for the decisive shot. Fate manipulation is therefore the team's enabling defense, not an effortless guarantee of good outcomes. (Chapters 739 and 747–750)

When a machine god's golem approaches, Percival recognizes Ultris's existence and joins the combined attack with the surviving defenders. Later, absorbed memories finally reveal the life hidden behind Sunshine's warnings. Percival is the reincarnation of the Supreme Sun, a former Forgotten Suns leader who possessed the Eye of All Fate and Eye of Existence Watcher. Xel'thar betrayed him, stole one eye, and cursed his successive lives so he could not recover his memories or power. The Supreme Sun nevertheless cast the Eye of All Fate into the river of time, denying the betrayer complete victory. (Chapters 751 and 768)

The final history adds another danger: Percival's present existence was born from eyes lost by Apollyon, allowing Apollyon to use him as a reference point. Percival must remain inside Neo's Cosmos so he cannot expose the Sect's location. He dislikes the isolation but accepts it. The Heavenly Records eventually create a golem-manipulation technique through which he can act outside with Neo's permission, restoring contact without removing the underlying risk. The once-impatient president ends as someone capable of accepting restriction when his freedom could endanger everyone around him. (Chapter 826)

Appearance and personality

Percival is a broad-built young man with platinum-blond hair. In his Executioner era he carries a large hammer across his back, one of the four True Soul Weapons. Apollo's Might covers him in golden fire, strengthens his body, and makes his eyes burn with solar power; Spirit Form gives him luminous wings and briefly merges him with Sunshine. During the Divine War, excessive Fate manipulation turns his eyes entirely white and leaves him bleeding from the nose and mouth. (Chapters 393, 409, 457, and 747–749)

He is cheerful, boastful, competitive, and fond of teasing Neo as “suicide-loving.” Percival readily advertises his talent and invents qualifications when a rival approaches his records, yet his vanity does not prevent responsible action. He can run an evacuation, accept a test result he dislikes, seize a clan to stop an attack, and endure crippling backlash for companions. His deepest fear is not personal defeat but repeating an older failure whose memories he cannot access. Over time, his need to be individually superior gives way to a willingness to ask for help, share information, and accept protective isolation. (Chapters 52–55, 123, 150, 409–413, 460, 568, and 826)

Powers and limitations

Fateweaving

Percival can perceive and manipulate distinct Fate threads, including the Fates of Fortune, Life, Death, and Space. A self-created Fate of Fortune thread protects him and provides the medium needed to interact with other Fates, which explicitly qualifies him as a Fateweaver. It can sacrifice itself to secure his escape, and Percival can protect another person from the Fate of Death or pull a soul into temporary contact. These acts are not free corrections of reality: saving himself subjects his body to an uncontrolled Space passage, while protecting Arthur blinds him, causes internal damage, and leaves wounds ordinary healing cannot repair. (Chapters 456–457, 463, and 747)

His Fate perception also supports concealment and analysis. Against Laplace, Percival hides Felix's position and diverts hostile attention while identifying the weakness behind the enemy's refusal to unfold a World. The ability can be resisted or disrupted by competing Fate threads, and Percival does not know every cause behind the futures he sees. His missing prior lives further limit interpretation: Sunshine remembers dangers and betrayals that Percival senses only as emotional pressure until the Supreme Sun history is recovered from another source. (Chapters 460–463 and 748–750)

Sunshine, Holy power, and Divine Transformation

Sunshine is Percival's guardian Spirit and a sentient sun with exceptionally strong Holy affinity. Percival can call the Spirit into the sky, surround himself with golden flames, fly on wings of light, and use solar Holy power for combat or purification. Sunshine can keep him alive when his Core is damaged and possesses memories of their shared reincarnations that Percival lacks. Because the Spirit's output depends on Percival's Divine Energy pool, its theoretical purification power may exceed what he can sustain. (Chapters 394, 406, 409, 417, and 456–457)

Apollo's blessing includes Might, which temporarily raises Percival to Grade 3 Exalted strength. Divine Transformation's Spirit Form merges him with Sunshine for a short increase in speed and power. Both states impose limitations: Might does not prevent swift death against a superior training threat, and a brief Spirit Form crossing leaves Percival drenched in sweat and severely exhausted. These are amplified conditions rather than evidence that his permanent Exalted grade has changed. (Chapters 409–410 and 457)

Artemis's blessing and reincarnation

The blessing of Artemis can create paths of silver light toward a requested person, place, or object. Its projection speaks through Percival's status screen and helps him establish that the trapped Executioners are within Tartarus's tree. The guidance is informative rather than omniscient: the projection explicitly cannot guarantee its answer when cut off from related projections, so Percival tests it against the ship's known location before trusting the conclusion. (Chapter 457)

Percival is also a Seraph who reincarnates across lives. The later Supreme Sun reveal explains the unusually dense solar Intent and buried memories, but current Percival does not automatically recover the original leader's complete abilities. Xel'thar's curse was designed to prevent precisely that restoration. The final connection to Apollyon's lost eyes is a liability as well as an origin, since it lets Apollyon use Percival as a reference point for locating the people around him. (Chapters 393–394, 768, and 826)

Relationships

Neo Hargraves

Percival begins as Neo's boastful senior and institutional evaluator. Competition gradually becomes partnership in Tartarus, political repayment through the protection of Henry, and genuine companionship after Neo returns. Percival still mocks Neo and resists dependence, but he also shares hidden history and joins the war so Neo will not face every burden alone. Neo responds by recognizing Percival's loneliness and later creating a safe way for him to remain connected outside the Cosmos. (Chapters 46–55, 148–150, 393–463, 568, 704–720, and 826)

Sunshine

Sunshine is Percival's guardian Spirit, power source, and keeper of the lives he has forgotten. The Spirit sustains him, supplies Holy affinity, and challenges the despair that follows his separation from the Tartarus team. It also refuses to disclose every painful memory before Percival is ready. Their bond is therefore not merely summoner and summon; Sunshine protects his physical life while carrying the continuity of identity that Xel'thar's curse took from him. (Chapters 406–417 and 456–460)

Amelia de Beaufort, Arthur, and Felix

Amelia is Percival's long-standing council colleague and one of the few people comfortable rebuking his pride. In later war they become peer leaders and battlefield partners. Arthur and Felix depend directly on his Fateweaving against Laplace: he shields Arthur from destined death and hides Felix long enough to fire. Their teamwork contrasts with Percival's early insistence on individual strength, proving that his decisive contribution can be enabling someone else's attack rather than delivering the finish himself. (Chapters 46–55, 150, 571, and 747–750)

Apollo and the Supreme Sun

Percival belongs to Apollo's clan and carries Intent so dense that Neo initially wonders whether he is Apollo reincarnated. The later evidence corrects that inference: Percival's prior identity is the Supreme Sun, and his lost eyes and sealed memories explain the unusual solar and Fate qualities. Apollo remains the source of his clan blessing and Might, while the Supreme Sun is Percival's own former life rather than a second patron. (Chapters 393–394, 409, and 768)

Items

True Soul Weapon hammer

Percival carries a massive hammer identified as one of the four True Soul Weapons. It accompanies him on the Tartarus expedition and marks his Executioner-era combat role. The corpus establishes its category and ownership more clearly than its individual name or complete ability set, so its effects should not be conflated with Percival's solar blessing, Fateweaving, or guardian Spirit. (Chapters 393–395)
