Apollyon

Apollyon is the bearer of the Golden Throne, a Fate Supreme, and the final-history enemy of Neo Hargraves. The son of Ouroboros and killer of both his father and Hades, he pursues Neo because Heavenbreakers and other advancing beings can become vessels for corrupt Daos. His methods include a reincarnation curse, Fate manipulation, Stage Nine divine power, and the Ancient-grade martial art Thousand Brilliance. Their last duel forces him through Nirvana into Fourth Step and Fourth Realm, after which he turns his body, power, and identity into chains that prevent progression beyond Third Step throughout the Cosmos. Biography

Return of the Golden Throne

Veydran first speaks Apollyon's name while trying to recruit Neo away from Ultris. The name alone shakes the Cosmos, reveals golden Fate Threads, and makes Neo's Existence try to bow to their returning sovereign. Ultris explains that Apollyon holds Hades's remaining fragments and can manifest into Neo's Cosmos if the family Life Flames are combined while the curse remains. Neo flees toward the True Blessed Lands, but Apollyon reaches across universes with a giant golden hand, seizes him, and delays killing him because he respects Hades enough to demand a conversation first. (Chapters 782–784)

That conversation continues when Moraine's true World of Darkness begins descending. Apollyon slows it and asks Neo to send her back before the surrounding universes are destroyed. He defends prior erasures as necessary because the broken Cosmos no longer resets cleanly and a surviving Ash can create an expanding paradox. Yet he does not dismiss Neo's anger, and his restraint distinguishes him from Veydran's indifference. After Neo escapes, Apollyon first tries to give the souls trapped in Darkness a proper end, then follows. His ruthlessness is therefore tied to a theory of stability, not pleasure in suffering. Ouroboros, Hades, and the cost of correction

Apollyon tells Neo that Ouroboros was his father and sent him into the True Blessed Lands for protection. When Apollyon returned, he judged that Ouroboros's campaign for peace had shattered the universe, the Eon cycle, and universal rebirth. He killed him and used the corpse's blood to nourish newborn universes that would otherwise die. Neo argues that Apollyon should have helped his father repair a mistake; Apollyon answers that calling the catastrophe a mistake does nothing for those still suffering in decaying worlds. The exchange defines his moral standard: intent matters less than the result imposed on victims. (Chapters 785–786)

His respect for Hades comes from the reverse pattern. Hades wanted destruction as mercy but continued working for peace until he could accomplish it, whereas Ouroboros wanted peace and produced ruin. Apollyon nevertheless preserves no sentimental exemption for Hades: later testimony says he killed Hades immediately after returning while still mortal on the Elemental and Divinity paths. He also refuses credit for Ultris's death. Shadow Supreme used an Entity-granted attack, and Apollyon orders the Eternals to watch him because the claimed motive is suspicious. Love, respect, judgment, and operational distrust remain separate in his decisions. (Chapters 786–787 and 825)

Thousand Brilliance Palace and self-suppression

Apollyon awakens inside Thousand Brilliance Palace, his old seat in the Righteous Martial Alliance. His Martial Alias is Thousand Brilliance, or Golden Sun, and recognition of that name gives martial power. Neo's curse-energized reincarnation immediately drains Apollyon's core, telling him that the curse has activated and can be used to track its subject. The True Blessed Lands suppress that tracking, however, and his greater danger is internal. He has been using the wounds inflicted by Third-Step Ultris to prevent his body from surpassing Stage Nine and entering Nirvana. Returning early cracks those self-seals and resumes an evolution he is desperate to delay. (Chapter 797)

He begins a witch hunt for Neo, Elizabeth, and their associates, and his contact with Heavenly Sect cultivators becomes treason in the Martial Alliance's eyes. Veydran defects because Apollyon killed their master, while Paul remains a spy inside Apollyon's palace. Apollyon knows Paul is a spy and can locate Neo's Sect, but waits for Neo to regain strength. The Golden Threads urge an immediate attack and predict his loss; Apollyon refuses to hand his generation's suffering to younger people and intends to finish the cycle himself. His delay is pride, admiration, and preparation at once. (Chapters 802–811 and 825)

The curse inside Hades's memory

Neo later examines Hades's divided Life Flame memories and reaches the moment Apollyon killed Ouroboros. Apollyon pauses the displayed past, turns from Hades toward Neo, and reveals that he secretly connected the fragments so anyone examining them would temporarily align the whole memory. The playback is designed to continue until Apollyon's own entrance, allowing the current Apollyon to catch the observer and locate them. This is an active, fragment-mediated intervention by the same person—not a memory duplicate, reincarnation, projection with its own agency, or independently ranked body. (Chapter 822)

Apollyon confirms that his original curse targeted Hades. It killed Hades's reincarnations before they became strong and sealed their memories until death, preventing them from developing a countermeasure. Hades altered the curse by tying his family into it, preserving them through a mechanism meant to destroy him. Apollyon then moves to kill Neo through the encounter, but Neo uses Severant to cut the memory itself and eject them both. The confrontation gives Neo the curse's history while exposing its limit: Apollyon's link depends on a medium that can be severed. (Chapters 822–823)

The final walk and Ancient-grade duel

After Neo recovers, Apollyon comes openly to the Sect gate and agrees to walk away from its residents before fighting. He discusses Ultris's time loops, the battle that cost Apollyon his eyes, and the reason fused histories left Ultris with multiple lives. When the ambush begins, Apollyon overwhelms two elite Martial Artists and manifests one thousand solar Technique Spirits. Neo identifies Thousand Brilliance as an Ancient-grade art beyond Legendary rank. Apollyon's Authority, [Inevitability], then makes attacks return even after Neo erases them, turning Fate's insistence into direct combat pressure. (Chapters 826–828)

Thousand Brilliance advances through solar phases while the two enemies converse through Intent. Apollyon asks how Neo treats the inhabitants of a devoured Cultivator's Cosmos, approves when told they are treated kindly, and asks Neo to act as the whetstone needed to force out his art's potential. As the breakthrough progresses through Morning, Noon, Afternoon, Evening, and Dusk, the Golden Threads wait to claim him through Nirvana. Neo realizes this is not merely a duel but Apollyon's funeral. Rather than finish him at his weakest, Neo helps him keep fighting long enough to meet the coming Calamity on his own terms. (Chapters 828–829)

Fourth Step, Fourth Realm, and total sacrifice

Nirvana pushes Apollyon toward Fourth Step while the Dao of Fate and Paradox enters his body. Neo cuts the Dao to buy him seconds, and Apollyon repeats the duel's movements alone as nine rebirth steps: Dawn, Sunrise, Morning, Noon, Afternoon, Sunset, Dusk, Night, and Midnight. He then calls the Heavens into himself and attains Fourth Realm through the Dao of Martial Arts, Extreme Heavens. The Heavens tear apart his body but momentarily suppress Fate and Paradox, letting him retain control after the Fourth Step Heavenbreaker breakthrough completes. Neo explicitly recognizes him as both Fourth Step and Fourth Realm, stronger than Celestial Worthy. (Chapter 830)

Apollyon strikes through Neo's heart and turns that combined power, his body, and his entire existence into conceptual chains. They seal Neo, the True Blessed Lands, and the Elemental Cosmos so no one can advance beyond Third Step, denying higher bodies to the Calamities. He then frees Ouroboros's corpse, kneels in thanks, and replaces the blood sustaining newborn universes with his own golden blood. His existence burns away so thoroughly that Neo cannot remember his name or face. The man who once corrected catastrophe using his father's corpse completes his solution by releasing that corpse and making himself the final cost. (Chapter 831)

Appearance and personality

Apollyon is presented as an ancient, physically imposing man whose presence feels warm like a setting sun even when he is preparing to kill Neo. Golden light, Fate Threads, and solar Technique Spirits surround his major appearances. In the True Blessed Lands he occupies a throne in Thousand Brilliance Palace, while his martial art passes visibly through the light of day: subdued dawn, sunrise, noon's intensity, the burning heat of afternoon and evening, and the darkness of midnight. The chapters emphasize weight, warmth, and cosmic authority more than fixed clothing, hair, or facial details. (Chapters 782, 797, and 826–830)

He is ruthless, austere, patient, and almost entirely outcome-driven. Apollyon kills people he loves or respects when he judges their continued existence catastrophic, erases unstable Ashes, and plans to cripple Neo despite receiving his help. At the same time, he delays a strategically easy kill to hear Neo, prioritizes trapped souls, refuses false credit for Ultris, and accepts total self-erasure rather than transfer the final burden. His tragic flaw is certainty: he treats his solution as the only tolerable correction and imposes permanent limits on every path without consent. His final sacrifice makes that coercion protective, but does not erase the lives harmed by his earlier enforcement. (Chapters 784–787, 797–825, and 830–831)

Powers and limitations

Fate Supreme, True Name, and the Golden Throne

Apollyon becomes the Supreme of Fate after returning from the True Blessed Lands. Fate is a naturally existing element, so his Supreme status gives control over a cosmic Law rather than marking the creation of a new one. His True Name carries enough authority to shake the Cosmos, reveal the Golden Threads, and pressure Neo's Existence into bowing. He can read the tapestry of Fate, track curse activations, and find Neo through connected lives, but the True Blessed Lands suppress those abilities. As Neo approaches a True-World level of existence, even the Threads warn that the lower Cosmos's tapestry cannot predict him reliably. (Chapters 782, 785, 797, and 825)

The Golden Threads and Golden Throne serve Apollyon but speak independently. They mock his strategy, urge him to enter Nirvana, promise to rescue him after defeat, and ultimately become identifiable as the Dao of Fate and Paradox attempting to enter his body. Their dialogue is not Apollyon's internal monologue, alias, or clone. His relationship with them is adversarial dependence: they amplify Fate around him while seeking the higher breakthrough through which they can possess him. (Chapters 797, 825, and 828–830)

Curse, fragments, and cosmic reach

Apollyon's curse kills Hades's reincarnations before they mature, seals their memories until death, supplies energy when linked reincarnations return, and signals Apollyon when it activates. He can hide connections among Life Flame fragments, force them to align during memory inspection, and use the resulting scene to catch an observer. Hades's alteration expands the curse to his family and changes its effects enough to preserve them, while Severant can cut the memory medium. The curse is therefore extraordinarily persistent but neither immutable nor unrestricted. (Chapters 783, 797, and 822)

Outside the True Blessed Lands, Apollyon can reach across universes with a hand large enough to grasp Neo and can trace him despite hiding. He holds Hades's fragments, controls or channels the Hanged Man's temporal power, slows the arrival of the World of Darkness, and later spreads a seal across both major worlds. Those feats sharply weaken inside the True Blessed Lands, where elemental and divine powers are suppressed. His current strength there depends heavily on Martial Arts and Authority, making location a genuine constraint rather than cosmetic scenery. (Chapters 783–787, 797, and 830–831)

Thousand Brilliance and Inevitability

Thousand Brilliance is Apollyon's Ancient-grade martial art, formally beyond Legendary rank. At Third Realm it manifests one thousand solar Technique Spirits and advances through phases from Dawn to Dusk during the duel, then through Night and Midnight during rebirth. Each stage moves their light into his body, exponentially increasing heat and force until mountains are destroyed by the clash. The technique has timing constraints: Apollyon must survive long enough to reach later phases, and Neo's large collection of resonating Technique Spirits pushes him toward a breakthrough he has tried to avoid. (Chapters 826–830)

Authority [Inevitability] makes attacks occur even after Neo uses temporal power to erase them, causing a canceled strike to return from another angle. It complements the martial art by replacing ordinary accuracy with Fate-enforced outcomes. Apollyon is still not invulnerable. Ultris's Third-Step wounds remain severe enough to suppress him, Moraine can fight him while he is injured, and Neo initially overpowers his Technique Spirits. His strongest victory requires Neo's aid against the Dao and Neo's unexplained decision not to use Primordial Chaos in the final clash. (Chapters 786, 797, and 828–830)

Fourth-path seal and erasure

At Fourth Step and Fourth Realm, Apollyon creates conceptual chains that pass through body and soul, bind Cosmoses and Paths, and prevent advancement beyond Third Step. The seal resists the True Blessed Lands' authority because it is fueled by both fourth-rank paths and Apollyon's complete existence; Neo estimates only a Sixth Step or higher could attempt to break it, while the seal itself prevents anyone from reaching that level. This is not a reusable technique demonstrated by a surviving Apollyon. Its absolute reach comes from consuming the user, erasing his body, name, face, and revivability. (Chapters 830–831)

Neo Hargraves

Apollyon treats Neo as a dangerous Heavenbreaker, the beneficiary of Hades's altered curse, and proof that the next generation can surpass its predecessors. Their opposition is philosophical as much as tactical: Neo wants to keep advancing until he can repair each new crisis, while Apollyon believes that ascent itself supplies bodies to the Calamities. Mutual respect grows through their conversations, and Neo ultimately helps Apollyon resist Dao possession. Apollyon repays that help by crippling Neo's path, but also ends the Endless Hell produced by unchecked transcendence. (Chapters 782–787 and 822–831)

Ouroboros and Hades

Ouroboros is Apollyon's father, beloved but neither respected nor forgiven for breaking the Eon cycles. Apollyon kills him, uses his blood to sustain newborn universes, and later frees the Hanged Man only after replacing that support with his own sacrifice. Hades is an enemy whom Apollyon respects because his actions created peace despite an ideology of destruction. Apollyon kills and curses him anyway, while Hades's alteration protects the family. These relationships show that Apollyon separates affection and admiration from his judgment of consequences. (Chapters 785–786, 822, 825, and 831)

Veydran, Ultris, and Shadow Supreme

Veydran initially leads the Eternals under Apollyon and accompanies him into the True Blessed Lands, but later defects because Apollyon killed their master. Ultris opposes Apollyon through time loops, reaches peak Third Step, destroys Apollyon's eyes, and leaves wounds Apollyon later uses as restraints. Shadow Supreme kills Ultris with an Entity-granted attack; Apollyon neither takes credit nor trusts the explanation. These distinctions matter because Apollyon's later rank cannot be inferred from another body killing Ultris, and Veydran's explicit Divinity-path wording cannot be assigned to him. Golden Threads and Percival

The Golden Threads serve Apollyon's throne but act and speak independently, celebrate his approaching possession, and later reveal themselves as the Dao of Fate and Paradox. They are not an alias for Apollyon or a clone carrying his personal ranks. Percival is likewise separate: his existence was born from Apollyon's lost eyes, giving Apollyon a possible tracking reference, but Percival has his own body, identity, progression, and actions inside Neo's Cosmos. Derivation and connection do not make either entity another Apollyon. (Chapters 797, 825–830, and 826)
