About the novel
Coiling Dragon follows Linley Baruch, heir to a noble clan whose fame and Dragonblood inheritance have both declined. Discovering the Coiling Dragon Ring brings him the spirit mentor Doehring Cowart, while his friendship with the magical beast Bebe gives him a lifelong companion. Linley trains in earth and wind magic alongside the incomplete warrior tradition of his family, first seeking restoration and then the power to answer devastating personal losses.
His path crosses the Yulan continent, divine planes, the Infernal Realm, and the Planar Battlefield. Family, friendship, and the community he builds remain more important to him than rank in isolation, even as conflicts among Highgods and Sovereigns make those bonds increasingly difficult to protect. The story expands through new planes without abandoning the promises that motivated Linley's earliest cultivation.
World and cultivation
Mortals develop as warriors or magi through ranked stages, elemental affinity, spiritual energy, battle-qi, and insight into natural laws. Dragonblood Warriors can transform through inherited bloodline power, while divine beasts possess innate abilities tied to their species. Reaching the Saint level and becoming a Deity shift advancement toward understanding elemental laws and fusing their profound mysteries.
The Higher Planes contain vast populations of Deities, powerful clans, armies, and Sovereigns associated with the elemental laws and edicts. Divine sparks offer one route to godhood, while independent breakthroughs preserve greater future potential. Highgod strength depends heavily on law fusion, soul defense, artifacts, and innate gifts, and the Planar Battlefield turns service to Sovereigns into competition over rewards capable of changing a clan's future.
