Xiao Lie

Xiao Lie is a senior elder of Floating Cloud City's Xiao Clan, father of Xiao Ying and Xiao Lingxi, and the man who raises Yun Che as his grandson. His care gives an abandoned and poisoned infant a family, while his refusal to measure worth by cultivation becomes the moral foundation Yun Che repeatedly returns to. Although the worlds around his household expand from a small city to divine kingdoms, Xiao Lie remains most concerned with whether his children come home safely.

Biography

Raising Xiao Che

Xiao Lie is one of the Xiao Clan's strongest and most respected elders, but the death of his gifted son Xiao Ying leaves him with white hair, lasting grief, and responsibility for an infant he believes to be Xiao Ying's child. He devotes himself to Xiao Che even after the boy's damaged profound veins make him an object of ridicule. The resources, standing, and affection he gives the child do not depend on the martial promise other elders use to judge their descendants. (Chapters 1, 4–6, and 20)

He arranges Xiao Che's marriage to Xia Qingyue through Xiao Ying's old bond with Xia Hongyi and helps Xiao Lingxi prepare the wedding. Xiao Lie understands that the marriage may protect his grandson in a clan that offers little respect to weakness, but he does not treat Qingyue as property or demand that the young couple perform affection for his benefit. His quiet welcome after the ceremony centers the household on care rather than clan prestige. (Chapters 2, 5, and 14–15)

When the Xiao Sect delegation conspires to seize Lingxi, Xiao Lie recognizes that the theft accusation is false but cannot overcome the authority arrayed against them. A private confession spoken at Xiao Ying's grave is used to blackmail him into silence, and he accepts imprisonment beside his daughter rather than purchase safety by abandoning her. Yun Che's expulsion thus leaves Xiao Lie confined and bereaved, yet still the family elder whose safety directs the young man's promise to return. (Chapters 23–43)

Release and a restored household

Yun Che eventually returns to Floating Cloud City with enough power to overturn the punishment. He frees Xiao Lie and Lingxi, exposes the faction that persecuted them, and restores his grandfather's place without requiring Xiao Lie to become vengeful. Xiao Lie is relieved by Yun Che's survival and growth but worries about the violence and enemies that accompany such strength. His approval remains personal: he values the grandson who came back more than the status that makes the clan kneel. (Chapters 281, 296, and 325–343)

The Burning Heaven Clan's reprisals again place the Xiao household in danger. Xiao Lie sees how enemies use family bonds as leverage against Yun Che, but he refuses to blame the people his grandson protects for drawing conflict toward them. Through the Blue Wind war and Yun Che's apparent death in the Primordial Profound Ark, he holds the surviving family together and endures another period in which the child he raised seems lost. Two families reunited

Yun Che's return from the Illusory Demon Realm reveals the truth behind his infancy. Xiao Ying exchanged his own son with Yun Qinghong and Mu Yurou's poisoned child, then died protecting that secret. Xiao Lie learns that the grandson he raised is not his biological descendant and that Xiao Ying's natural son survived as Xiao Yun. The revelation restores one lost branch of his family without diminishing the other. (Chapters 610, 657, and 681)

He receives Xiao Yun and Number Seven Under Heaven while continuing to call Yun Che his grandson. Xiao Lie's response resolves the potential rivalry between blood and upbringing: Xiao Ying's sacrifice made both young men family, and neither must be displaced to recognize the other. The expanded household joins Floating Cloud City to the Yun family of the Illusory Demon Realm through affection before politics. (Chapters 681–929)

Yun Che's departure for the God Realm

When Yun Che must leave Blue Pole Star for the God Realm, Xiao Lie again accepts a separation he cannot control. He understands that remaining would waste the chance to heal and advance, even though divine travel places his grandson beyond any protection the Xiao family can offer. His farewell does not ask Yun Che to choose home over survival; it asks him to remember that a home remains. (Chapter 1037)

During the years that follow, Xiao Lie lives quietly among the family Yun Che gathered. His limited cultivation keeps him outside the conflicts of star realms and king realms, but that distance gives him a unique role. To the people waiting on Blue Pole Star, he is the elder who knew Yun Che before titles, inheritances, and enemies transformed the scale of his life. (Chapter 1037)

The apparent destruction of Blue Pole Star

Yun Che's brief homecoming lets Xiao Lie see both his extraordinary status and the exhaustion beneath it. The family reunion confirms that the vast God Realm has not erased the grandson's need for Floating Cloud City. Xiao Lie welcomes Yun Che without treating his achievements as a debt that must be repaid, preserving the ordinary family life he has tried to give him since infancy. (Chapters 1380 and 1400)

The Moon God Realm then appears to destroy Blue Pole Star. Yun Che believes Xiao Lie and the entire household are dead, and that belief helps drive his descent into vengeance. In reality, Shui Meiyin exchanges the planet with another through the World Piercer. Xiao Lie survives in concealment, unaware of much of the war being waged in the name of those presumed lost. Return after the imperial war

Once Blue Pole Star's survival is revealed, Xiao Lie reunites with Yun Che after the Northern Divine Region's conquest. He does not meet the feared emperor as a subject approaching a throne; he receives the grandson who believed himself responsible for failing his family. That recognition helps separate Yun Che's public sovereignty from the private identity nearly destroyed by grief. (Chapters 1622 and 1884)

Xiao Lie resumes life within the protected Blue Pole Star household. The scale of Yun Che's authority now makes outside attack less immediate, but the old man's priorities remain unchanged: Lingxi's well-being, the unity of Xiao Ying's descendants, and the return of family members who continue to travel beyond the planet. Later family life

By the Abyss period, Xiao Lie remains alive on Blue Pole Star and surrounded by the enlarged Xiao and Yun families. Age and modest cultivation prevent him from following Yun Che's newest disappearance, leaving him again in the position of waiting without the means to intervene. His continued presence nevertheless gives the missing emperor a concrete reason to survive and find a path home. (Chapter 1976)

The household he preserves is the long result of choices made before Yun Che could protect anyone: raising a child whose origins he did not know, accepting imprisonment for Lingxi, and welcoming Xiao Yun without withdrawing love from the grandson of his daily life. Those choices make Xiao Lie's family durable enough to survive revelations that would have divided a household built only on blood or status. (Chapter 1976)

Appearance and personality

Xiao Lie is introduced as an older man with prematurely white hair, the visible result of grief for Xiao Ying. He carries the dignified bearing of the Xiao Clan's Fifth Elder and one of Floating Cloud City's respected experts, but domestic scenes often show him tending flowers, eating with family, or receiving juniors without ceremony. He is restrained, perceptive, and intensely loyal. Xiao Lie can recognize corruption within his clan yet endures humiliation when open resistance would expose Lingxi or Yun Che to greater danger. His greatest strength is moral consistency: he does not stop loving Yun Che when the boy is weak, when he becomes powerful, or when another bloodline is revealed. Abilities and cultivation

As the Fifth Elder, Xiao Lie begins among the strongest profound practitioners in the small Xiao Clan and commands respect throughout Floating Cloud City. His cultivation is significant within that local setting but remains far below the forces Yun Che later faces in Blue Wind, the Illusory Demon Realm, and the God Realm. He therefore shifts from physical protector to protected family elder as the story's scale expands. (Chapters 1, 4–6, and 281–325)

Yun Che's medicines and resources improve the family's health, safety, and longevity, but Xiao Lie is not presented as pursuing a formal sequence of high-level breakthroughs. His practical strengths are clan leadership, emotional judgment, and the authority to hold together people drawn from multiple households. (Chapters 325, 681–929, and 1884)

Relationships

• Yun Che: His adopted grandson, raised from infancy after Xiao Ying's sacrifice. Xiao Lie's unconditional care is central to Yun Che's understanding of family.
