Yan Jin

Yan Jin is an ice-and-fire sword cultivator, Meng Chuan's longtime friend, and the estranged seventh son of King Calm Sea. His refusal to accept his father's treatment of their family shapes both his isolation and his persistence. From Eastcalm's crises through city defense, his brother's death, and a final reckoning with King Calm Sea, he gradually builds friendships and a family without surrendering his judgment of the harm done to them.

Biography

Eastcalm, Shared Danger, and Friendship

Yan Jin arrives in Eastcalm as a gifted but withdrawn youth training under Jadesun Palace. At the Demon-Slaying Meet, his paired swords and unusual strength let him fight a tiger demon head-on, yet he leaves the arena rather than exploit an opponent already wounded by Meng Chuan. His cold manner keeps most people distant, but his fairness earns Meng Chuan's attention. Their connection deepens when Yan Jin hears that an unknown maid has been abducted and immediately orders a rescue, because the fate of a maidservant who once cared for him makes such abuse intolerable. (Chapters 15–16 and 25–27)

The rescue exposes a Skydemon expert, and Yan Jin's willingness to stand at the front nearly kills him. Meng Chuan saves him from the first lethal pursuit, after which the two repeatedly spar and become friends despite Yan Jin's reserve. During Eastcalm's later demon invasion, Yan Jin kills demons while evacuating, then encounters Demon Monarch Poison Pool. A protection sealed in him at birth activates when death appears certain, destroying Poison Pool and helping decide the wider battle, but King Calm Sea's apparition calls it the only aid he will ever give. Yan Jin responds with bitter laughter rather than gratitude toward a father whose voice he has not heard in years. (Chapters 28–30, 44, and 65–66)

Yan Jin travels with Meng Chuan and Liu Qiyue to the Archean Mountain selection, where his robust foundation, will, and true dual-sword style earn admission. The friendship survives his preference for a remote cave abode and long solitary cultivation: he names Meng Chuan and Qiyue as the few friends in his life, drinks with them before their departure, and hopes they will share another battlefield. When they leave first, he advises caution and continues writing to them, turning a bond formed in Eastcalm into his strongest chosen relationship outside his troubled family. (Chapters 70, 76, 79, 84–95, 125, 131, and 136)

An Obstinate Path and His Brother's Last Gift

Archean Mountain reveals both Yan Jin's persistence and its cost. He spends a decade taking the Azure Lotus Divine Body only to Greater Mastery before the sect's deadline forces him to become an Indestructible Godfiend. He also refuses to abandon Icefire Seven Absolutes, although it requires separate Ice and Fire Sword Intents and their fusion. Years of solitary cultivation eventually let him form Ice Soul and Fire Soul, achieve Lesser Mastery, and enter the Great Solar realm, but his isolation leaves him with few connections beyond the Eastcalm friends who continue visiting him. (Chapters 107, 125, 188, and 205)

His estrangement from the Xue family is more deliberate than ordinary distance. Yan Jin formally changes his surname and rejects King Calm Sea's authority, while his feelings toward his half-brother Xue Feng remain conflicted because Xue Feng treated him well before leaving for Archean Mountain. Xue Feng quietly finds an ice-and-fire lotus suited to Yan Jin and has Meng Chuan deliver it without revealing the source. Its balance gives Yan Jin the insight needed to enter the Realm of Dao, condense an Essence Soul through his sword art, and become Marquis Clear Snow—a title taken from the maid name associated with his mother rather than from his father's house. (Chapters 95, 301, 307–308, 320–321, 331, and 335–336)

Deployed to defend a city with Xue Feng, Yan Jin initially considers requesting reassignment but refuses to disrupt the sect's wider defensive arrangement. Repeated sparring and a Myriad Sword Sect legacy secretly passed on by his brother help him master Snow Drift and reach top-Marquis combat strength. Their relationship thaws just before Patriarch Yellow Oscillate kills Xue Feng while he draws danger away from the city and his teammates. Meng Chuan then reveals who supplied the ice lotus. Yan Jin recognizes Xue Feng as his brother without qualification and promises to finish the work he left behind. (Chapters 335–340)

War's End, Reckoning, and Later Service

Later evidence recovered from King Calm Sea's memories establishes that Yan Jin's suffering was not mere neglect: his father deliberately arranged his tragic childhood as a method of tempering talent, regarding Yan Jin's mother and other victims as expendable. Meng Chuan tells Yan Jin what he has learned and eventually passes along a letter from the punished King Calm Sea. Yan Jin also marries his former disciple Mu Fengxue and has a daughter; the companionship softens his formerly frozen manner, while his understanding of his father's crimes and Xue Feng's care helps him emerge from the state those experiences created. (Chapters 437–438, 524, 526, and 536)

When King Calm Sea returns after three centuries of World Gap punishment, Yan Jin meets him with Qin Wu and asks whether he regrets the lives destroyed by his methods. King Calm Sea initially defends those sacrifices, so Yan Jin attacks with the sword art he created during the intervening centuries. He loses because his mid-stage Grotto-Heaven technique remains below his father's late-stage attainment, but he still identifies the moral failure at the center of that strength: a crooked method of teaching and cultivation leads farther from the proper path. King Calm Sea later admits that judgment before his death, giving Yan Jin acknowledgment rather than reconciliation. (Chapters 631–632)

Yan Jin subsequently reaches the technique and Essence Soul conditions under Archean Mountain's expanded rules, then uses an outer-realm treasure to break through to the Supremacy realm. He declines an expedition to Earth Cloud Mystic Realm because its accelerated time would consume his remaining lifespan away from his family for only a small chance of further advancement. Instead, he tries to create a transcendent-grade Godfiend body better matched to himself, contributing to the system that will train future disciples. More than eighteen centuries into his life, he remains alive, meets with Meng Chuan and Yan Chitong, and lives as one of the old friends who survived the war. (Chapters 646–647 and 761)

Appearance and personality

Yan Jin first appears as a slender, white-robed youth with two swords in one scabbard. He is pale while cultivating in extreme cold, sometimes with frost covering his hair and brows, and his expression is usually calm or cold. His later title, Marquis Clear Snow, preserves his association with snow and his mother's maid name. The corpus does not establish lasting scars or a substantially different appearance in old age. (Chapters 16, 23, 25, 91, 188, and 336)

He is proud, laconic, stubborn, and willing to train through pain, but his reserve conceals a strong concern for victims and the few people he accepts. He refuses an unfair advantage, risks himself for an abducted stranger, treasures friends intensely, and subordinates his desire to avoid Xue Feng to the sect's defensive needs. Marriage and a clearer understanding of his family history make him gentler and friendlier, though his confrontation with King Calm Sea shows that softening does not mean excusing abuse. (Chapters 16, 23, 25–28, 89, 125, 131, 320, 336, 526, and 632)

Abilities and cultivation

Yan Jin's cultivation combines a powerful early ice-and-fire foundation, paired sword techniques, the transcendent-grade Azure Lotus Divine Body, and successive sword legacies. His development is slowed by imperfect compatibility and his insistence on difficult paths, but direct experience, the ice lotus, and later legacy study carry him from mortal swordsmanship to a self-created Grotto-Heaven sword art and finally the Supremacy realm.

Icefire foundation and dual swords

As a mortal, Yan Jin possesses tremendous natural strength and a robust Godfiend foundation developed with rare resources and an Icefire Divine Body. His two longswords correspond to Yin and Yang: when one side is suppressed, the other accumulates force for a rebound, and together they can form a vortex that redirects incoming attacks. This lets him contend head-on with a stronger tiger demon and block almost half of a Skydemon expert's projectile barrage. The method cannot erase a sufficiently large power gap; the Skydemon's direct strike overwhelms the deflection, fractures Yan Jin's bones, and leaves him unable to continue alone. (Chapters 16, 23, and 28)

Repeated sparring with Meng Chuan brings him close to Force, while the selection examinations show the advantage and limitation of his specialization: single-weapon measurements understate him because his best combat depends on the interaction of both swords. His foundation grants strength, speed, recovery, and control above ordinary peers, but not Meng Chuan's exceptional movement. He therefore relies on deflection, accumulated counterforce, and complementary blades rather than pursuit speed. (Chapters 29, 44, 76, 79, and 84)

Azure Lotus Divine Body and Icefire Seven Absolutes

Yan Jin chooses the Azure Lotus Divine Body after entering Archean Mountain but reaches only Greater Mastery before becoming an Indestructible Godfiend. He later acknowledges that the body was never perfectly compatible with him. His chosen Black Metal Sutra, Icefire Seven Absolutes, is even more demanding: it requires Ice Sword Intent and Fire Sword Intent to be comprehended separately and then united. After years with only the ice side, solitary cultivation in a chamber of ice lets him develop both Ice Soul and Fire Soul, fuse their opposing qualities, and advance to the Great Solar realm. (Chapters 107, 125, 188, and 647)

The path's greatest cost is time and isolation. A less demanding Heaven-level legacy might have advanced his technique faster, but Yan Jin refuses to switch even when he cannot see a route to completion. That obstinacy delays his Godfiend ranks and does not yield a perfected Azure Lotus Divine Body. It nevertheless provides enough mastery for him to teach Meng You, whose compatibility with the same body is better than his own, and later motivates his attempt to design a transcendent-grade formulation fitted more closely to ice-and-fire cultivators like himself. (Chapters 125, 320–321, and 647)

Marquis sword arts and battlefield applications

The Ice Lotus harmonizes ice and fire from one source, giving Yan Jin the insight that ordinary practice has failed to provide. Within months he enters the Realm of Dao; after further sword insight lets him seek answers from his inner self, years of Quintessential Essence nourishment culminate in a newly condensed Essence Soul and his Marquis breakthrough. The item catalyzes understanding rather than supplying a permanent combat effect, and his initial Marquis strength remains suited to supporting a stronger city guardian. (Chapters 320–321, 331, and 335)

Xue Feng's Myriad Sword Sect inheritance then transmits a large sword-art legacy directly into Yan Jin's Essence Soul. With repeated sparring, he masters Snow Drift, whose many sword beams raise him to top-Marquis combat strength. During city defense, he spreads Quintessential Essence threads across long distances to hinder third Firmament demon monarchs, weakening their attacks and movement so allied beasts can kill them. The threads are battlefield support rather than decisive strikes against peers, and Xue Feng still defeats him consistently in direct sparring. (Chapters 336–339)

Over the next three centuries, Yan Jin draws on the Myriad Sword Sect and later Star Cluster Building legacies to create his own sword art at the mid-stage Grotto-Heaven realm. It lets him exchange many blows with King Calm Sea, but his father's late-stage Grotto-Heaven technique and longer World Gap refinement still defeat him. After Yan Jin also satisfies the necessary Essence Soul threshold, an outer-realm treasure restores his aged body and permits a Supremacy breakthrough. His latest stated project is a better Godfiend body formulation; the corpus does not confirm that he completes it. (Chapters 632 and 646–647)

Sealed Essence Soul protection

The Yan Jin’s Sealed Sword Mark is not one of Yan Jin's learned techniques. King Calm Sea places the Essence Soul mystical technique in him at birth at great cost, and it activates automatically when Poison Pool is about to kill him. The manifested gray sword clears poisonous fog, suppresses and destroys the demon monarch, then sends its remaining force toward the battle at Jadesun Palace. It is explicitly a single-use protection: after activation, King Calm Sea says there will be no second mark, leaving Yan Jin responsible for his later survival. (Chapters 66 and 205)

Relationships

  • Meng Chuan: Best friend from Eastcalm and Archean Mountain. Their shared danger, sparring, correspondence, wartime service, and old-age meetings make this Yan Jin's longest chosen friendship; Meng Chuan also mediates Xue Feng's gift and the later truth about King Calm Sea.
  • Liu Qiyue: Fellow Eastcalm survivor and one of his few early friends. She worries about his isolation, while he values her and Meng Chuan enough to hope that all three will fight together again.
  • King Calm Sea: Father whom Yan Jin refuses to recognize after changing his surname. The sealed protection proves some concern but does not erase deliberate cruelty; their final confrontation forces King Calm Sea to acknowledge that his methods went astray.
  • Xue Feng: Older half-brother who cares for Yan Jin despite their family conflict. His ice lotus, legacy, sparring, and death transform Yan Jin's guarded affection into an explicit promise to continue his work.
  • Mu Fengxue: Former disciple and later wife. Her long companionship softens Yan Jin's manner, gives him a family independent of the Xue household, and shapes his decision not to spend his remaining lifespan in Earth Cloud Mystic Realm.
  • Meng You: Junior whom he guides in the Azure Lotus Divine Body, applying the lessons of his own difficult and imperfect mastery to help the next generation advance more smoothly.

Items

  • Ice Lotus: Found by Xue Feng in the World Gap and delivered through Meng Chuan so Yan Jin will accept it. Its unified ice-and-fire nature resolves a longstanding cultivation bottleneck and enables his progress to Marquis Godfiend.
  • Yan Jin’s Sealed Sword Mark: A one-use Essence Soul mystical technique placed in Yan Jin at birth by King Calm Sea. It activates against Poison Pool, saves Yan Jin and Eastcalm's defenders, then permanently dissipates.
