King Calm Sea

King Calm Sea, born Xue Ting, is an Archean Mountain Regis Godfiend, commander of Calm Sea Pass, and the father of Xue Feng and Yan Jin. His hatred of demons drives him to protect humanity and pursue strength, but his conviction that only his own judgment can be trusted leads him to exploit his family, accept demon techniques, and cause the very human losses he intended to prevent.

Biography

From Orphan to Defender

King Calm Sea's childhood is revealed only after his crimes come to light. Demons destroy his hometown and kill his parents, leaving him among the minority who survive the flight. He becomes a wandering beggar, sees people prey on the weak, and nearly freezes before entering a large household as a servant. With little instruction, he secretly cultivates and subjects himself to severe discipline. Those experiences produce a lasting hatred of demons, but they also leave him dismissive of mortals whom he regards as unable to resist either demons or stronger humans. (Chapters 436–437)

His talent carries him from that beginning to Archean Mountain's highest ranks. He enters Archean Eon Grotto-Heaven, masters the Great Strength Fiend Body, reaches the Regis Godfiend realm, and develops sword techniques that touch the Grotto-Heaven profundities while he is still comparatively young. Archean Mountain regards him as the active Regis Godfiend with the greatest chance of becoming a Creation Supremacy. Stationed at Calm Sea Pass, he commands Godfiends such as Fairy Meng, gives cultivation guidance, and becomes a standard against which younger disciples measure themselves. (Chapters 19, 65, 134, and 286)

His protection extends far beyond the pass when a demon invasion threatens Eastcalm Prefecture. An Essence Soul sword mark that he had sealed in Yan Jin activates when his son faces death, annihilates Demon Monarch Poison Pool, and projects the Heavenly Tribulation Sword across the region to kill another demon monarch at Jadesun Palace. The remote attack has only a fraction of his full power, yet it changes the battle and saves the prefecture. The act demonstrates both genuine concern for his children and the indirect, power-centered way in which he expresses it. (Chapters 66–68 and 205)

That concern is distorted by his belief that hardship is the proper means of forging Godfiends. King Calm Sea takes several wives and concubines in hopes of producing capable descendants, then secretly arranges suffering to temper their will. He gives his most promising children resources and hidden safeguards but withholds ordinary care, treating their mothers and other mortals as expendable. Xue Feng receives slight favor because of his talent, while Yan Jin rejects the Xue family name. King Calm Sea's family policy therefore produces formidable cultivators at the price of alienation and harm that his children never accept as necessary. (Chapters 95–96, 205–206, 301, 307–308, and 437)

Forbidden Knowledge and Ruin

When Archean Mountain sends King Calm Sea into the forming World Gap, he sees a rare opportunity to improve the Heavenly Tribulation Sword. He studies the creation of the world, pursues the time lineage, and works beside King True Martial while protecting Xue Feng. His pride initially makes him underestimate the difference between them, but watching True Martial destroy powerful demon monarchs forces him to recognize that gap. He nevertheless remains a key protector whose sword and strength help the team survive battles that ordinary Regis Godfiends could not endure. (Chapters 300–317)

His pursuit of power has already crossed a hidden boundary. King Calm Sea accepts manuals from demons, leaks intelligence, and believes he can learn their ultimate techniques before turning the resulting strength against them. He does not intend to betray humanity, but he trusts his own assessment above Archean Mountain's repeated warnings. The Four Absolutes Sword's meditation method creates a second, evil consciousness inside his Essence Soul. Because he does not cultivate its later stages, the corruption exposes itself before it can completely replace and control him. (Chapters 436–437)

While his main consciousness loses time and memory, the second consciousness changes his appearance and murders civilians. After one such massacre, Meng Chuan identifies the Spring Autumn Tribulation sword technique and captures him. King Calm Sea admits that he noticed two earlier memory gaps but did not report them, reasoning that they did not prove his guilt. Heart Sea Palace then verifies the full history: he hated demons, but his forbidden studies and leaked intelligence had already caused Godfiend deaths before the corrupted consciousness slaughtered mortals. His intended shortcut to victory had instead given the demons a path to turn one of humanity's best prospects against his own people. (Chapters 435–438)

King Calm Sea accepts that his crime warrants death and asks to spend his remaining value fighting demons. Archean Mountain destroys his Essence Soul so the corrupt technique cannot regenerate its second consciousness, transforms him into an Ice Guard, and sentences him to patrol the World Gap for three centuries. He accepts the lethal risk of modification without complaint because the sentence permits him to keep killing demons. Before leaving, he challenges Yan Jin to become strong enough to enter the World Gap, still treating emotional distance and hardship as tools for cultivation rather than confronting the damage he caused. (Chapters 438–439)

The modification closes his path to the Creation realm but immediately raises his combat power to the level of a top Creation expert. His body becomes a deep-cyan ice lifeform, and his strength, speed, resilience, and control of frost improve. He joins the World Gap defenders, survives the Black River formation's attacks, and continues refining his spacetime-affecting sword. After King True Martial sacrifices himself, Calm Sea envies the senior brother whose final act decisively saves humanity and judges his own record as that of a man deceived and used by demons. That comparison deepens his stated need for redemption. (Chapters 439, 445–465)

Three Centuries of Atonement

King Calm Sea remains in the World Gap after the main fighting ends. He reports incursions, fights the remaining demons, and spends long periods as its only inhabitant. When word arrives that humanity has won, he smiles but refuses to treat victory as release: his sentence is unfinished, and he continues walking the empty world. Even after the Demon Realm stops sending forces and the forming world's cultivation phenomena vanish, he patrols alone until the full three hundred years have elapsed. (Chapters 465, 496, 515, 536, and 631)

At the sentence's end, his ice body is dim and near the limit of its lifespan, but his technique realm has advanced to the late Grotto-Heaven stage. He tears open the world membrane and returns to Archean Mountain, where Yan Jin demands remorse for the wives, children, and mortals harmed by his methods. Calm Sea initially defends their suffering as a price that produced Regis Godfiends and defeats Yan Jin's self-created sword art. Yan Jin's answer—that an unorthodox beginning causes an ever-greater deviation—finally makes him question whether his entire path was crooked. (Chapters 631–632)

Archean Mountain allows him three days to see the human world before permanent confinement on the mountain. The peaceful, prosperous society he once wanted to create shows him what Meng Chuan achieved without adopting his methods. He returns to Qin Wu, acknowledges that he went astray, admits that he implicated his wives and children, and asks that his gratitude be conveyed to Meng Chuan. At the end of his lifespan, the Ice Guard body dissolves into dust. His final judgment does not erase his crimes or his service: both remain essential to how his life is assessed. (Chapter 632)

Appearance and personality

King Calm Sea is initially a tall man with a cold expression and a gaze that can feel as sharp as an attack. He often sits motionless with his eyes closed, acknowledges few people, and speaks sparingly. After life modification, his body resembles a sculpture of deep-cyan ice. It does not visibly age during most of his sentence, though its color dims and its vitality weakens near his death. (Chapters 286, 300–301, 439, and 631–632)

He is intensely disciplined, proud, solitary, and focused on defeating demons. He can give useful cultivation advice and protect subordinates or children, yet he habitually equates strength with worth and trusts his own reasoning above institutions or relationships. His willingness to sacrifice the weak, conceal dangerous experiments, and engineer suffering is the central failure of that worldview. He accepts punishment and spends centuries atoning, but explicit remorse for his family comes only after Yan Jin confronts him and he witnesses the peaceful world created by another path. (Chapters 19, 307–308, 436–439, and 632)

Abilities and cultivation

King Calm Sea develops from a peak Regis Godfiend with Creation-level combat strength into an Ice Guard whose physical power reaches the level of a top Creation expert. His original system joins the Great Strength Fiend Body to sword techniques centered on time; life modification later replaces his Godfiend body and Essence Soul with an ice lifeform while preserving his technique realm.

Great Strength Fiend Body

The Great Strength Fiend Body is a transcendent-grade Godfiend body distinguished by overwhelming physical force. Its strength is greatest while the cultivator stands on the ground and is halved in the air, though even the reduced output remains exceptional among Godfiend bodies. King Calm Sea's mastery gives him formidable close-range power and speed, but his original body is still less durable than the most defensive special lifeforms. Archean Mountain supplies Scarlet Cloud Heaven to cover that weakness in the human world. The treasure cannot function after he enters the World Gap, leaving his own defenses exposed there. (Chapters 92–93 and 316)

At his Regis peak, he can defeat ordinary Regis Godfiends and fight with the strength of a weak Creation expert. His raw cultivation is not enough to overcome every specialized counter: Blood Shura's lifeblood technique bypasses Seamless domains and Quintessential Essence defenses, forcing him into a dangerous fight that Meng Chuan helps him survive. This encounter shows that his strength and technique do not make him immune to attacks that act directly upon lifeblood or exploit the limits of the human Godfiend body. (Chapters 314–317)

Heavenly Tribulation Sword and time lineage

King Calm Sea develops the Heavenly Tribulation Sword as his principal combat system. A projected sword gathers Heaven and Earth power into thousands of sword beams, while later techniques influence time and distort the void to make his strikes exceptionally fast. In the World Gap he studies the world being torn open and repeatedly refines the sword toward that destructive ideal. His Spring Autumn Tribulation becomes a recognizable high-level move, and after centuries of practice his overall technique realm reaches the late Grotto-Heaven stage. (Chapters 66, 286, 300–317, 435–436, 445–448, and 632)

His temporal control provides valuable team support but has defined limits. It can alter the flow of time around King True Martial long enough to help release a demanding sequence of attacks, yet Meng Chuan's tenfold Flowing Sand acceleration is explicitly greater. His sword art can also be disrupted when Monarch Peacock's Heaven Devouring interferes with movement, allowing a Black River formation to land repeated blows. The technique remains lethal and fast, but it is neither absolute control over time nor an answer to every domain. (Chapters 316–317 and 447–448)

Essence Soul sword mark

Before losing his Essence Soul, King Calm Sea can seal a sword mark into another person at great personal cost. The mark left in Yan Jin is an Essence Soul mystical technique that activates when Yan Jin faces death, incapacitates nearby enemies through an invisible fluctuation, destroys Poison Pool, and projects a weakened Heavenly Tribulation Sword across Eastcalm Prefecture. The remote attack retains only a fraction of Calm Sea's full power, and he places such marks in only a few children because producing them is so difficult. (Chapters 66–68 and 205)

The same Essence Soul becomes his gravest vulnerability when he cultivates an unverified demon meditation method. It generates an independent hostile consciousness without his awareness. Archean Mountain concludes that continued cultivation could allow this consciousness to consume and replace him, possibly leaving it controllable by the demons. Removing the Essence Soul through life modification permanently ends both his access to Essence Soul techniques and the corruption's route back into his mind. (Chapters 436–439)

Ice Guard body

Archean Mountain's life modification melts King Calm Sea's Essence Soul and converts his consciousness, memories, and preserved technique realm into an Ice Guard. The process is agonizing and can kill him if his consciousness collapses. Success gives him greater strength and speed, command of frost, a body that heals lesser damage, and complete immunity to Essence Soul mystical techniques because no Essence Soul remains to target. His test strike leaves only a mark on his palm before frost repairs it, and ordinary formation spears create holes without destroying him. (Chapters 438–439 and 448)

The ice body is also his single fatal foundation. It can repair cracks and holes, but complete shattering means death, and life modification permanently ends his path to the Creation realm. Its lifespan is finite rather than immortal. King Calm Sea nevertheless uses it for the entire sentence, improves his sword techniques over three centuries, and reaches the late Grotto-Heaven technique realm. At the latest point at which he fights, he can tear a world membrane open with repeated barehanded strikes and defeat Yan Jin, but soon afterward his exhausted life essence disperses into dust. (Chapters 439, 445–465, and 631–632)

Relationships

  • Yan Jin: King Calm Sea's seventh son and the clearest victim of his upbringing methods. He leaves Yan Jin a lifesaving sword mark but deliberately engineers hardship around him. Their final confrontation forces Calm Sea to question his path and acknowledge the harm done to his family.
  • Xue Feng: His fifth son and most favored child because of extraordinary talent. Calm Sea protects and cultivates him, but emotional neglect prevents mutual understanding. Xue Feng's achievements briefly pierce his pride and reveal that his son may equal him.
  • Qin Wu: His master, who once expects him to become Archean Mountain's next Supremacy. Qin Wu is devastated by his collusion, oversees his punishment, and receives his confession immediately before death.
  • Meng Chuan: The junior who captures his corrupted consciousness and participates in judging him. Calm Sea comes to trust Meng Chuan with the war's future and ultimately credits him with creating the peaceful world he had wanted to see.
  • King True Martial: Senior peer and fellow World Gap defender. True Martial's strength humbles him, while his decisive sacrifice becomes the standard of service against which Calm Sea judges his own compromised legacy.
  • Fairy Meng: Former subordinate at Calm Sea Pass. He guides her cultivation and later hires physicians after her fatal injuries, evidence that his harsh worldview does not prevent concern for capable Godfiends under his command.

Items

  • Ice Lotus: Xue Feng finds this world-birth treasure and asks King Calm Sea whether its unified ice-and-fire nature suits Yan Jin. Calm Sea confirms that it does; the lotus is then delivered secretly and enables Yan Jin's later breakthrough.
  • Scarlet Cloud Heaven: An Archean Eon Heaven Earth treasure bestowed to compensate for flaws in Calm Sea's defense. It produces a defensive domain when activated with Seamless Quintessential Essence but cannot be used in the World Gap and is reclaimed when he is sentenced.
  • Yan Jin’s Sealed Sword Mark: A costly Essence Soul technique placed in Yan Jin's body. Its activation saves Yan Jin and changes the outcome of the Eastcalm invasion, though it exposes his parentage to the demons.
