Zheng Yang

Zheng Yang is one of Zhang Xuan's first students, the fourth-ranked member of his eventual direct-disciple lineage, and its foremost spear cultivator. He begins as an insecure youth rejected by the spear teacher he admires. Zhang Xuan recognizes that heartbreak has introduced hesitation into both his spear and his temperament, restores the directness that once defined him, and gives him a path whose foundations eventually carry him to leadership of the Combat Master Hall. Zheng Yang is not the most innately gifted of the original class, but he is repeatedly distinguished by courage, perseverance, and an unwillingness to remain a burden on his teacher. Those traits take him from Hongtian Academy to the complete Dragon Gate Formation, the battlefields of the Master Teacher Continent, and finally the Firmament, where the Blazing Sun Monarch makes him a Conferred God King renowned for his spearmanship. Biography

Rejection, hesitation, and a new teacher

Zheng Yang enters Hongtian Academy with a lifelong passion for the spear and hopes to study under the renowned Wang Chao. Wang Chao rejects him as unsuitable, leaving him dejected and convinced that there is no other teacher capable of guiding his chosen weapon. Zhang Xuan identifies the deeper problem immediately: rejection by Su Feifei has turned the once-direct youth hesitant, and that uncertainty has entered every thrust of his spear. Rather than promising prestige, Zhang Xuan names the emotional wound Zheng Yang has concealed and offers to correct the weakness at its source. Zheng Yang acknowledges him as his teacher on the spot. (Chapters 7–8)

His loyalty forms before Zhang Xuan has any reputation to offer. When others mock Zhang Xuan as the academy's worst teacher, Zheng Yang joins Zhao Ya, Wang Ying, Liu Yang, and Yuan Tao in defending him and resolves that a student should clear the stain on a teacher's name rather than abandon him. Training under Zhang Xuan gradually restores the forcefulness of both his technique and character. He stops treating Wang Chao's judgment as the limit of his future and instead measures himself by whether he can justify the trust of the teacher who accepted him. (Chapters 9, 105, and 149)

That change becomes public during the Teacher Evaluation against Lu Xun's class. Zhang Xuan reduces a complex spear heritage to a direct Heaven's Path method suited to Zheng Yang's foundation. Against Mo Xiao, a more experienced student of the Wang Clan Spear, Zheng Yang relies on a single pierce instead of a prolonged exchange and manifests a primitive form of Spear Intent. Mo Xiao recognizes that he has no counter, while Zheng Yang later breaks through Lu Xun's Coiling Dragon Hands. At sixteen, he has acquired weapon intent that many lifelong practitioners never reach, forcing Wang Chao to concede that Zhang Xuan's instruction is superior to his own. Growing from student into spear teacher

As Zhang Xuan's class moves beyond Tianxuan, Zheng Yang continues cultivating beside the other original students and treats their collective progress as repayment for their teacher's labor. His spear remains the clearest expression of his identity: direct, aggressive, and increasingly stripped of needless variation. Even when the group separates to pursue different inheritances, he retains the techniques and values of Zhang Xuan's lineage as the foundation against which he judges every later opportunity. At Hongyuan, he demonstrates that he can now diagnose another spearman rather than merely execute a technique himself. When Xue Zhenyang and his followers bully weaker cultivators, Zheng Yang intervenes and casually points out flaws in Xue Zhenyang's spear. The older academy faction leader is so shaken by the depth of the advice that he insists on becoming Zheng Yang's student and pays a tutelage fee. Zheng Yang does not accept the role casually: he first asks Sun Qiang whether a student is permitted to teach, then stresses that Zhang Xuan's understanding exceeds his own many times over. The episode completes a reversal begun at Hongtian—someone once rejected as unworthy of instruction has become a teacher capable of redirecting an elite spearman's path. (Chapters 793–800)

Teaching also exposes the discipline beneath his hot blood. Zheng Yang does not simply hand Xue Zhenyang a powerful move; he explains, demonstrates, spars, and forces him to recognize why his existing habits obstruct the spear's intent. His confidence is genuine, but it remains rooted in gratitude rather than self-glorification. He presents his accomplishments as evidence of Zhang Xuan's instruction and uses the authority he gains to extend his teacher's methods to others. (Chapters 793–801)

Choosing the Combat Master Hall

Zheng Yang's decision to enter the Combat Master Hall is driven by fear of becoming excess baggage. He sees that remaining beside Zhang Xuan consumes resources while leaving him unable to shoulder any of his teacher's dangers. The Combat Master Hall offers the training, battles, and institutional resources needed to change that. He therefore challenges Qingyuan's simplified Dragon Gate Formation, accepting a trial in which groups of combat masters rise as high as eight cultivation stages above him. His aim is not a title for its own sake; he wants a name and strength that can carry part of Zhang Xuan's responsibilities. (Chapters 965–967)

The trial reveals the breadth that has grown around his spear. Zheng Yang uses simplified Heaven's Path spear, movement, fist, and cultivation arts; reads the coordination of the combat masters; heals with pure zhenqi; and advances his cultivation under battle pressure. He deliberately enters below his possible realm, then moves from Chrysalis realm primary stage to Half-Saint while sustaining real internal injuries. After clearing all nine stages, he weeps rather than celebrates, vowing to become someone his teacher will not be disappointed in. The victory makes him a candidate for Progeny of Combat and sends him to the headquarters for the complete formation. (Chapters 965–967 and 1,138)

At headquarters, Zheng Yang defeats the Dragon's Tail and Dragon's Back, survives the three opponents of the Dragon's Head, and continues into the Dragon's Pearl despite a broken spear and wounds covering his body. He uses his body as a spear after losing the weapon, taking hundreds of blows before becoming the first challenger in three centuries to clear the complete trial. The Combat Master Hall declares him Progeny of Combat and future hall master. His first decree is that every combat master must honor Zhang Xuan as a teacher while keeping his identity confidential, turning the highest authority he has yet received into formal recognition of the person who made his rise possible. Continental leadership and return to his roots

Training in the Hall of Spring and Autumn and life-or-death combat sharpen Zheng Yang from an earnest youth into an imposing leader. When the Master Teacher Pavilion moves against Zhang Xuan, he returns with his fellow disciples and stands against the continent's senior authorities rather than permit an unjust arrest. He is already strong enough to contend with 9-star master teachers, but his first response is concern for Zhang Xuan and Zhao Ya, not a claim to institutional precedence. The intervention shows that his loyalty survives separation and promotion: he will use the Combat Master Hall's authority for its ethical purpose, even when that places him opposite another pillar of mankind. (Chapters 1,540–1,550)

Zheng Yang soon formally assumes leadership of the Combat Master Hall. During the Otherworldly Demon invasion, he commands combat masters in the Dragon Gate and Cloudsea Subterranean Galleries, helping stabilize humanity's defenses instead of remaining at Zhang Xuan's side. His responsibilities therefore become larger than personal devotion. He protects the same civilization his teacher is fighting for and learns to make judgments in which the lives of ordinary people matter as much as victory over a strong opponent. (Chapter 1,669)

His return to Tianxuan Kingdom with Wei Ruyan demonstrates this maturity on familiar ground. Zheng Yang has let go of his youthful feelings for Su Feifei, but he will not watch her be sacrificed by a man who values treasure over her life. The investigation leads to a buried tablet saturated with Zhenqi of Slaughter. As an Ancient Sage and Combat Master Hall head, Zheng Yang withstands the killing intent, seals dangerous energy to protect the civilians above, and discovers the preserved body of Sage Ran Qiu, founder of the Combat Master Hall. An illusion then confronts him with the apparent corpse of Kong shi and knocks him unconscious. The shock exposes the limit of his knowledge rather than his courage; once awakened, he joins Zhang Xuan and Wei Ruyan in breaching the barrier behind the false tomb. (Chapters 1,857–1,867)

Guardian of the lower world and Conferred God King

At the boundary of the Azure, Zheng Yang first advances with the other disciples to Ancient Sage 4-dan Dimension Shatterer realm. Zhang Xuan destroys and reconstructs their meridians according to a network capable of absorbing the heavier spiritual energy, a dangerous process in which even experienced Ancient Sages die from small mistakes. Zheng Yang succeeds and again asks to follow his teacher into danger, but Zhang Xuan orders the disciples to remain and protect the Master Teacher Continent. He entrusts Zheng Yang with the Dragonbone Divine Spear, now itself a Dimension Shatterer artifact, and specifically charges him with defending humanity if another deity descends. (Chapters 1,912–1,913)

After a year without reliable news, the disciples decide that waiting has become less responsible than acting. They enter the Azure, endure spatial turbulence that injures even their reconstructed bodies, and reunite with Zhang Xuan near Xuanjiang City. When he prepares to ascend to the Firmament, Zheng Yang refuses another separation and reminds him that the students do not wish to be left behind yet again. This time Zhang Xuan accepts their choice, and the lineage enters the higher world together despite having no assurance of survival. (Chapters 2,075–2,078 and 2,103–2,104)

The Celestial Mountain separates them once more. Zheng Yang's talent with the spear attracts the Blazing Sun Monarch, who takes him to the Sky of Blazing Sun and rapidly raises him to God King realm pinnacle. Conferment grants him the recognition of that Sky and access to the power of its world, making him a Conferred God King. Within days he can defeat or stand against veteran conferred experts and becomes famous throughout the Firmament for ingenious spearmanship. The advancement adds power without changing his allegiance: when reunited with the other disciples in the Flooding Sea, he still seeks a strong opponent primarily so that a victory will prove Zhang Xuan's name. In the Flooding Sea, Zheng Yang and the other new Conferred God Kings collect resources while veteran experts resent their dominance. On seeing Zhang Xuan, Zheng Yang kneels with reddened eyes and addresses himself as an unfilial disciple. His next boast—that he wishes to challenge the mysterious Conferred God King of the Nine Skies for his teacher's honor—collapses when he learns that the title belongs to Zhang Xuan himself. He refuses the fight, having learned through years of failed attempts that every apparent opportunity to overtake his teacher ends in another lesson. At his latest appearance, he remains alive beside the lineage, helping investigate the Flooding Sea's treasures and responding to the dimension-rift crisis under Zhang Xuan's direction. Appearance and personality

Zheng Yang is introduced as a sixteen-year-old youth who habitually carries a spear. His early bearing is subdued by rejection, but successful training gives him a visibly sharper and more direct presence. By the time the Combat Master Hall broadcasts his complete Dragon Gate trial, he has matured into a keen young man whose aura feels capable of piercing the heavens; experience with bloodshed has removed the immaturity that remained under Zhang Xuan's early protection. His defining qualities are courage, hot-bloodedness, and perseverance. Zhang Xuan judges that Zheng Yang is not the most talented disciple, but that no one surpasses his devotion to the spear or willingness to press forward. He can be daring to the point of recklessness, as when he enters hidden passages first or tries trials meant for stronger cultivators, yet the motive is generally responsibility rather than thrill seeking. He wants enough strength to protect his teacher, his fellow disciples, and later the people under the Combat Master Hall. (Chapters 965–967, 1,199, and 1,862)

Zheng Yang's emotional development follows the correction Zhang Xuan makes in his first lesson. His youthful heartbreak turns his spear hesitant; mature Zheng Yang can revisit Su Feifei, recognize that his old passion is gone, and still intervene because allowing an innocent person to be sacrificed would violate his principles. He remains proud and competitive—especially about spear arts—but accepts correction quickly when it comes from Zhang Xuan. His authority as hall master and Conferred God King therefore coexists with an almost instinctive deference toward his teacher. (Chapters 7–8, 1,857–1,861, and 2,259–2,260)

Abilities and cultivation

Spearmanship and Spear Quintessence

Zheng Yang's foundational art is the simplified Heaven's Path Spear Art taught by Zhang Xuan. It pares spearmanship down to direct movements whose timing, force, and intent make them difficult to counter. His single thrust against Mo Xiao produces an early Spear Intent; years of training later carry him to Spear Quintessence, with only Zhang Xuan and the ancient inheritance of Sage Ran Qiu shown as clearly superior on the Master Teacher Continent. The art is especially effective when he can read an opponent and commit without hesitation, while doubt in his own purpose once weakened it sharply. (Chapters 159–160, 215–222, and 1,862)

His applications extend beyond wielding a weapon. During the complete Dragon Gate trial, his spear breaks against the guardian of the Dragon's Pearl, so he treats fists, legs, movement, and finally his entire body as continuations of the spear's intent. In the Firmament, Blazing Sun training refines the same foundation rather than replacing it, and his ingenious spear techniques allow him to defeat veteran Conferred God Kings shortly after receiving his conferment. Simplified Heaven's Path arts and combat judgment

Zheng Yang practices simplified versions of Zhang Xuan's cultivation, movement, fist, and weapon arts. Their pure zhenqi supports rapid recovery and can be used to help allies, while the shared logic among the techniques lets him change methods without losing the coherence of his fighting style. Against the Dragon Gate Formation he studies cooperation among multiple opponents, disrupts their timing, and advances his cultivation under pressure rather than relying on the spear alone. (Chapters 965–967 and 1,199)

These arts demand a sound foundation and do not erase realm differences automatically. Zheng Yang suffers severe internal injuries against formations whose members outclass him, and Zhang Xuan later warns the disciples not to force premature Ancient Sage breakthroughs merely for a short-term increase in power. His strongest successes combine technique with preparation, endurance, and a willingness to continue after injury. (Chapters 965–967 and 1,848–1,849)

Ancient Sage and Dimension Shatterer cultivation

Zheng Yang reaches Ancient Sage while leading the Combat Master Hall and becomes resilient enough to withstand concentrated Zhenqi of Slaughter that would overwhelm Great Sages. The position and his repeated mental tempering strengthen his will, but do not grant complete immunity to nonphysical attacks: the tomb illusion built around Sage Ran Qiu's body still knocks him unconscious by presenting an apparent truth capable of shaking his faith. (Chapters 1,861–1,864)

To reach Dimension Shatterer realm, he has his meridians shattered and rebuilds them using Zhang Xuan's reverse cultivation method and an Otherworldly-Demon-like network suited to mercury-like spiritual energy. The alteration lets him absorb energy unavailable to ordinary human meridians, but a mistake in the process would have killed him. At this rank he can guard the Master Teacher Continent against descending deities and wield the matching Dragonbone Divine Spear. (Chapters 1,912–1,913)

Conferred God King authority

In the Firmament, the Blazing Sun Monarch raises Zheng Yang through the God realms and grants him a conferment after he reaches God King realm pinnacle. Conferment does not change the underlying purity of his zhenqi; it gives his soul the recognition of a territory and the right to draw upon the Will of the World, multiplying his fighting prowess beyond that of an ordinary God King. His latest confirmed cultivation is Conferred God King, among the strongest ranks beneath the God Monarchs. (Chapters 2,208–2,209)

The authority remains connected to the Firmament and its laws. It does not make him capable of solving large-scale spatial collapse: Zheng Yang and the other conferred disciples can support Luo Qiqi's attempt to freeze the Flooding Sea's expanding rift, but even their combined power cannot permanently stabilize it. (Chapter 2,262)

Instruction

Zheng Yang can identify errors in another cultivator's spear and translate principles into drills and sparring. His instruction of Xue Zhenyang proves that he can pass on a usable path rather than merely display superior skill. He nevertheless treats his own teaching as derivative of Zhang Xuan's deeper comprehension and seeks permission before establishing a teacher-student relationship, a limit that reflects both humility and the hierarchy of the lineage. • Zhang Xuan: Zheng Yang's teacher and the central reason for his cultivation. Zhang Xuan repairs the hesitation in his spear, gives him the techniques that define his path, and later entrusts him with guarding humanity. • Zhao Ya, Wang Ying, Liu Yang, and Yuan Tao: His original classmates and the core of Zhang Xuan's first student group.
