Wei Ruyan

Wei Ruyan is Zhang Xuan's seventh direct disciple, a survivor born with both the Innate Poison Body and Poison Soul Constitution, and the eventual head of the Poison Hall. A Saint's attack while she is still in her mother's womb leaves her deficient in spirit, soul, and blood; her mother dies giving her enough vitality to be born, and her father spends the next fifteen years trading his future for remedies that can keep her alive. What first appears to be terminal frailty is instead the uncontrolled burden of two constitutions that consume poison and convert it into strength. (Chapters 787–789)

Her growth is inseparable from loss. She wakes only after her father dies retrieving the final medicine Zhang Xuan needs, then chooses Zhang Xuan as her teacher and learns to direct a body whose mere proximity can poison trained combatants. Training at Poison Hall headquarters makes her its young leader, while captivity in the Temple of Confucius and the Firmament's Aura of Divinity carry her to Ancient Sage and then Conferred God King realm. At her latest direct appearance, she is alive in the Flooding Sea and finally reunites with the resurrected father whose death had defined her cultivation journey. Biography

Surviving a body that could not sustain her

Wei Ruyan enters the story unconscious, fifteen years old but so thin and pale that she appears close to death. Her condition begins before birth, when a Saint attacks her pregnant mother and damages the child's spirit, soul, and blood. Her mother burns away her own vitality to let the baby survive and dies soon afterward. Wei Changfeng, the girl's father, then devotes himself to preserving what remains, feeding expensive medicines and the spiritual essence of artifacts into her body even when each improvement proves temporary. (Chapters 787–788)

Zhang Xuan initially diagnoses the three deficiencies and attempts to mend them with Heaven's Path zhenqi. The treatment instead clashes with a dormant Innate Poison Body, making Wei Ruyan's physical signs vanish so completely that she appears to die. Refusing to accept that result, Zhang Xuan summons her soul and uses soul essence to sustain it. Contact reveals a second constitution: her Poison Soul suppresses even the Innate Fetal Poison inside Zhang Xuan, while the physical constitution absorbs toxins and medicinal energy through the body. The two constitutions explain both her potential and her collapse. Each requires power and poison to awaken, but together they have been consuming the limited vitality of an injured child. Zhang Xuan stabilizes the soul and identifies medicines capable of repairing her foundations, including a Grand Intermittence Pill. The pill eventually corrects much of the fetal damage, yet most of its nourishment is swallowed by the dormant Innate Poison Body, leaving her unconscious and forcing treatment to address the constitutions rather than only the symptoms. Waking to loss and choosing a teacher

Wei Changfeng retrieves the Cloudmist Flower needed for his daughter's cure, but a saint beast's attack leaves him mortally wounded before he returns. The task completes the promise around which he has built his life, while the cost transfers an unbearable debt to the daughter who has not yet awakened. Zhang Xuan later secures the remaining medicines, repairs her body and soul, and watches years of accumulated medicinal power drive the still-untaught girl directly to Chrysalis realm pinnacle. Her first conscious concern is her father. When she learns that he died acquiring her medicine, Wei Ruyan grieves the person who had been her entire world, but she does not reject the life he purchased. Long illness has already given her unusual mental endurance. She decides to live well enough for his sacrifice to have meaning and accepts Zhang Xuan as her teacher because he saved both her body and her dispersed soul. (Chapters 889–890)

Her second decision is to confront You Xu, whose scheme contributed to Wei Changfeng's death. Wei Ruyan poisons the physician but restrains immediate revenge long enough for Zhang Xuan to question him about the old principal. That balance establishes her later moral pattern: she is willing to kill those she judges responsible and has little sentimental attachment to orthodox restraint, yet she defers to Zhang Xuan's purpose and treats vengeance as something to complete after the truth has been extracted. Learning that her existence is poison

Wei Ruyan's inherited cultivation is initially deceptive. Medicines have filled her with power, but she has never practiced a battle technique, used a weapon, or built stable foundations. Over two months under Zhang Xuan, she disperses the unstable progress and cultivates upward again until Chrysalis realm. Rebuilding from the bottom converts a passive store of remedies into strength she understands, although it does not yet give her conscious control over the poison constitutions. (Chapters 889, 968)

At the Combat Master Hall's Dragon Gate Formation, that lack of formal combat experience seems disqualifying. Wei Ruyan nevertheless incapacitates combat masters simply by entering their range: her body and zhenqi naturally diffuse poison, so proximity becomes an attack even when poison techniques are prohibited by the test. The hall ultimately recognizes the effect as part of her innate strength rather than an external weapon. Her success reveals a domain-like combat style that bypasses defense, speed, and technique by making the surrounding space hostile. (Chapters 968–969)

The victory also exposes the cost of incomplete awakening. Wei Ruyan releases more poisonous energy than her body can regulate and collapses soon afterward, her weak appearance returning despite her realm. Zhang Xuan uses poisonous Heaven's Path zhenqi to stabilize the conflict for roughly a year, leaves a soul fragment with her, and entrusts her to poison masters traveling to their headquarters. She leaves because ordinary teaching is no longer enough: only the Poison Hall's inheritance can awaken both constitutions without allowing them to consume their bearer. (Chapters 970, 1,009–1,010)

Claiming the Poison Hall and returning for her teacher

Poison Hall headquarters initially places Wei Ruyan among people who value her constitution more than her wishes. When senior poison masters attempt to eliminate her, Zhang Xuan's soul fragment and a golden page hidden in her consciousness protect her. His will assumes the authority of the hall's founder, defeats the plot, and orders the assembled experts to awaken the girl's Innate Poison Body completely. The institution that might have consumed her instead supplies the accumulated poison knowledge and resources she needs. (Chapters 1,090–1,095)

Wei Ruyan wakes in control of an inheritance that can terrify the hall's highest-ranked experts. She accepts leadership of the Poison Hall and begins turning years of involuntary suffering into chosen study. Her gratitude is precise: the poison masters provide technique and position, but Zhang Xuan remains the person who twice preserved her life and gave her the chance to decide what the constitution means. She resolves to repay him rather than allow the hall's reverence to redefine her loyalties. (Chapters 1,094–1,095)

That resolve governs her return during the Master Teacher Pavilion's campaign against Zhang Xuan. As the Poison Hall's true head, she captures or incapacitates master teachers, threatens institutional retaliation if her teacher is harmed, and even adopts Zhang Xuan's composed posture while controlling the confrontation. Against You Ruoxin, diffuse poison makes the stronger opponent's zhenqi heavy and body immobile. The Pavilion Seal can still strike Wei Ruyan's soul directly and pushes her near her limit until Lu Chong intervenes, proving that mastery of toxin does not erase specialized counters. She nevertheless joins the other disciples in forcing the Pavilion to explain and apologize for its treatment of Zhang Xuan. (Chapters 1,535–1,544, 1,554)

Turning captivity into another awakening

The Hundred Schools of Philosophers later kidnaps Wei Ruyan because her constitution can replace one of the six Celestial Amulets used to open the Temple of Confucius's subordinate halls. They also need her poison to mature and harvest the Great Sage Bodhi Fruit. Held in a trance at the Hall of Lull, she is made to pour poisonous energy into the ancient tree until the fruits ripen, leaving her weak and exhausted before Zhang Xuan reaches her. Rescue converts exploitation into another opening for advancement. The Bodhi Tree's deadly gas functions as nourishment to the Innate Poison Body, and Wei Ruyan can absorb enough of it to approach Sempiternal realm consummation while others would die. She explicitly warns that this immunity has a capacity: the poison is too intense for her to take indefinitely and would eventually injure her. Zhang Xuan clears the obstructions created by the forced process, allowing her to complete the advancement without mistaking affinity for limitless tolerance. (Chapters 1,742–1,743)

The fruit and the Hall of Lull's tempering help her cross into Ancient Sage, after which her poison becomes strategically terrifying. She can quietly kill a Great Philosopher who is not prepared and can threaten an entire city through wide-area diffusion, so the direct disciples deploy her as both control and deterrence. She speaks about that destructive capacity with chilling calm and dark humor, a sharp contrast to the helpless girl first carried into Zhang Xuan's room, but she continues using it in coordinated service of the same lineage rather than for indiscriminate conquest. Crossing worlds and finding her father again

Wei Ruyan advances with the other direct disciples from Ancient Sage into the Azure. Zhang Xuan shatters and reconstructs their meridians so they can absorb the higher world's dense, mercury-like spiritual energy; after a dangerous five-day process, all nine disciples reach Dimension Shatterer realm. Her constitution remains central, but her progress is no longer only poison consumption: the shared Heaven's Path foundation lets her adapt to an entirely different world's laws. In the Firmament, Wei Ruyan fights beside the reunited lineage at the Celestial Mountain and encounters a river-shaped manifestation of high-tier Aura of Divinity. Fairy Linglong takes both her and Wang Ying to the Sky of Linglong, where the two become Conferred God Kings. When the Fairy appears to demand obedience, they ask whether accepting cultivation requires submission; assured it does not, they retain the power but refuse her as teacher, declaring that they would rather return their cultivation than recognize anyone besides Zhang Xuan in that role. The Flooding Sea finally resolves the loss that began her biography. Demon Monarch Qiankun's hidden successor proves to be Wei Changfeng, whose Innate Embryonic Soul preserved his identity through death and resurrection in the Netherworld Pool. Wei Ruyan recognizes him and embraces him in tears. Zhang Xuan understands that gratitude, resentment, and guilt over her father's sacrifice have remained a barrier in her heart; reunion frees her to accept that his life did not end as the price of hers. She is last directly named alive beside her restored father, after helping the lineage stabilize the collapsing space around Zhang Xuan's final battle. (Chapters 2,251, 2,262)

Appearance and personality

At fifteen, Wei Ruyan is extremely thin, with pale skin and yellowish hair that make her look chronically malnourished. Her pulse is weak and her spirit seems ready to disperse, outward signs of the prenatal injuries and the two constitutions consuming her limited vitality. Medicines and cultivation eventually restore her health, yet later observers can still mistake her slight or weak-looking frame for helplessness—a dangerous error once even the zhenqi she releases carries poison. She possesses exceptional endurance and a severe sense of obligation. A childhood spent close to death teaches her to bear pain without panic, and on waking she chooses to honor Wei Changfeng by living rather than surrendering to grief. The same resolve appears in her patience with You Xu, her willingness to rebuild cultivation she did not truly earn, and her acceptance of specialized training far from Zhang Xuan. Gratitude is never passive for her; it becomes study, vengeance, institutional responsibility, or physical protection. (Chapters 889–890, 968, 1,009–1,010)

Mastery of poison sharpens her into one of the lineage's coldest personalities. Wei Ruyan can discuss killing a city with an unnerving smile, frighten veteran poison masters, and answer enemies with understated, sometimes morbid humor. That ruthlessness is selective rather than empty. She obeys Zhang Xuan's judgment when information matters more than immediate revenge, risks herself for her brother- and sister-disciples, refuses to replace her teacher even for a God Monarch, and becomes openly vulnerable again when she sees her father. Abilities and cultivation

Innate Poison Body

The Innate Poison Body is a rare physical constitution that converts toxins into nourishment and naturally infuses Wei Ruyan's body, zhenqi, and surroundings with poison. It is congenital rather than learned, but the damage she suffers before birth and the simultaneous demands of her Poison Soul leave it dormant for fifteen years. Medicines intended to repair her are repeatedly absorbed into the constitution, explaining why vast expense keeps her alive without waking her and why the Grand Intermittence Pill strengthens her cultivation more readily than her ordinary health. Awakening changes poison from an illness into her cultivation medium. The Poison Hall's inheritance allows controlled activation, the Hall of Lull's deadly gas becomes usable energy, and ordinary combatants collapse merely by approaching her. At higher realms she can spread poison across a battlefield, burden an enemy's zhenqi, silently kill an unprepared Great Philosopher, and accelerate a poisonous Bodhi Tree's maturation. Affinity is not absolute immunity or effortless control. Early overuse causes physical collapse, the concentrated Bodhi poison would harm her if she absorbed beyond her capacity, and the Pavilion Seal bypasses bodily toxins to attack her soul. Her power also creates tactical risk for allies and institutions: indiscriminate diffusion can incapacitate everyone nearby, so mature use depends on range control, preparation, and choosing when the threat of mass poisoning is more valuable than release. Poison Soul Constitution

Wei Ruyan's soul carries a second poison constitution distinct from her body. Zhang Xuan discovers it after the physical treatment appears to kill her and he summons her soul; contact with that soul suppresses the Innate Fetal Poison that even his Heaven's Path zhenqi cannot remove. The Poison Soul Constitution renders the soul highly resistant to soul toxins and allows poisonous soul energy to strengthen it, creating a spiritual counterpart to the body's absorption of material poison. The double inheritance accounts for her extraordinary potential and childhood frailty. Both body and soul draw on the same inadequate vitality before awakening, so treating only the flesh cannot solve her condition. Once stabilized, the spiritual constitution helps her withstand poison training and supports attacks that ordinary antidotes cannot answer. It does not make the soul untouchable: the Pavilion Seal's direct spiritual force still brings her close to collapse, and Zhang Xuan's protective soul fragment is necessary when senior poison masters threaten her before the headquarters awakening. Poison arts and cultivation progression

Wei Ruyan's first realms come from years of accumulated medicine rather than disciplined cultivation. She wakes at Chrysalis pinnacle, disperses that unstable strength, and rebuilds it under Zhang Xuan before studying poison systematically at headquarters. Her mature method combines constitutional emission with learned control: she can poison through ambient contact, conceal effects until an opponent's zhenqi becomes unusable, and scale from a precise execution to city-wide area denial. The absence of a conventional weapon is part of the method, because her body and cultivation energy are themselves the delivery system. (Chapters 889, 968–970, 1,535–1,544, 1,847)

Forced use in the Hall of Lull carries her to Sempiternal consummation, the Bodhi legacy helps her reach Ancient Sage, and reconstructed meridians bring her to Dimension Shatterer realm in the Azure. A high-tier Aura of Divinity and Fairy Linglong's resources then elevate her to Conferred God King. At her latest state, she combines that conferment with two fully awakened constitutions and Poison Hall knowledge, while her choices in the Sky of Linglong show the key limit on outside cultivation: she accepts power only when it does not require surrendering her allegiance to Zhang Xuan. Zhang Xuan

Zhang Xuan saves Wei Ruyan at every stage when raw poison expertise is insufficient. He summons her soul after his first treatment fails, gathers the medicines that let her awaken, teaches her to rebuild an unstable cultivation, and leaves a fragment of his consciousness to protect her at Poison Hall headquarters. He later rescues her from the Hall of Lull and clears the obstructions created by forced poison absorption. For Wei Ruyan, these actions make him the teacher who gave her agency over a life previously controlled by illness and other people's sacrifices. Her loyalty is therefore protective rather than ceremonial. She threatens the Master Teacher Pavilion on his behalf, coordinates her lethal art with his other disciples, and refuses to call Fairy Linglong teacher even after receiving a Conferred God King cultivation. Zhang Xuan in turn recognizes the emotional burden hidden beneath that devotion and treats her reunion with Wei Changfeng as a necessary liberation, not merely a reward. Wei Changfeng

Wei Changfeng is Wei Ruyan's father and the source of both her survival and her deepest unresolved grief. He builds the Spirit Emporium and spends years gathering medicines and artifact spirits for her, then dies retrieving the Cloudmist Flower that completes Zhang Xuan's treatment. Wei Ruyan responds by choosing to live, punishing You Xu's role in the death, and carrying a mixture of gratitude and resentment toward a sacrifice she never asked him to make. His resurrection in the Flooding Sea transforms that sacrifice without erasing it. The Innate Embryonic Soul that preserves Wei Changfeng through the Netherworld Pool may also help explain the unusual spiritual talent inherited by his daughter. When she recognizes and embraces him, Wei Ruyan is no longer required to treat her own continued existence as the cause of his absence. Their reunion closes the personal wound beneath her otherwise controlled and ruthless adult identity. (Chapters 2,262)

The direct disciples

Wei Ruyan joins a lineage whose members understand separation, dangerous constitutions, and devotion to a common teacher. She fights with them against the Master Teacher Pavilion and Ancient Sages, adds poison-based suppression to their coordinated formation, and follows them through the Azure into the Firmament. Although seventh in seniority, her potential for wide-area killing makes her a strategic specialist rather than a subordinate combatant. (Chapters 1,535–1,554, 1,847–1,858, 1,910–1,913)

Her bond with Wang Ying becomes especially visible in the Sky of Linglong. Fairy Linglong trains and confers both women, but they question her conditions together and refuse any demand that would displace Zhang Xuan. Their shared response lets them accept a new world's resources without fragmenting the disciples' original family. They return to the Flooding Sea as members of the same eleven-person lineage, regardless of the different skies that claim their cultivation. (Chapters 2,135, 2,208–2,209, 2,241)

Poison Hall and Fairy Linglong

The Poison Hall begins as the only institution capable of awakening Wei Ruyan safely and becomes the organization she leads. Its experts initially include factions willing to kill or exploit her, but her constitution, Zhang Xuan's intervention, and the founder's authority turn the relationship around. As hall head, she gains a body of specialists who fear and follow her, and she can use the hall's institutional weight to defend Zhang Xuan against the orthodox Master Teacher Pavilion. Fairy Linglong is a later patron rather than a second teacher. She recognizes Wei Ruyan's talent at the Celestial Mountain, brings her to the Sky of Linglong, and supplies the resources for a Conferred God King breakthrough. Wei Ruyan respects the opportunity only within explicit limits: cultivation may create an affiliation, but it cannot purchase discipleship or obedience that conflicts with Zhang Xuan. • Celestial Amulets of Legacy — Wei Ruyan does not possess one of the amulets. Kong shi forged the subordinate keys from six special bloodlines, and the Hundred Schools uses her Innate Poison Body as a living substitute for the Hall of Lull's key.
