Yuan Tao

Yuan Tao is one of Zhang Xuan's original students, the fifth senior among his direct disciples, and the bearer of the Yuan Clan's complete Ancient Emperor Bloodline. He begins as a plump orphan and wandering cultivator who ranks last in Hongtian Academy's entrance examination, has never learned a proper cultivation art, and initially wants to withdraw from the supposedly incompetent teacher assigned to him. Zhang Xuan sees the dormant bloodline beneath that poor foundation, gives him a viable method, and turns his natural toughness into a cultivation path centered on earth, bodily defense, and overwhelming impact. Although frequently comic, Yuan Tao has one of the lineage's clearest patterns of adaptive courage. He wins early fights through misdirection because he knows that speed is his weakness, accepts agonizing bloodline treatments rather than disappoint his teacher, leaves for the Yuan Clan only after receiving Zhang Xuan's approval, and later turns his own body into a weapon against the strongest powers on the continent. His assimilation of a phantasm formed from Kong shi's lectures and his eventual conferment in the Sky of Acheron raise him from an overlooked academy student to one of the Firmament's strongest Conferred God Kings. Biography

Finding a path after finishing last

Yuan Tao joins Zhang Xuan's first class with little confidence in either himself or his teacher. His parents died while he was young, he grew up roaming Tianxuan City's streets, and he never received a complete cultivation or battle technique. The only obvious advantage he possesses is unusually thick skin and a sturdy body, neither of which prevents him from finishing last in the entrance examination. When the other students discuss withdrawing, he is willing to follow, but their attitude changes as Zhang Xuan diagnoses each of them and supplies Yuan Tao with a corrected form of the academy's basic art. His first victories already show the survival instincts hidden behind his anxious manner. Against Zhu Hong, Yuan Tao follows Zhang Xuan's telepathic instructions, distracts the stronger opponent with inverted movements, and strikes the exposed mingmen. In the Teacher Evaluation, he faces Kong Jie across a two-realm cultivation gap and knows that his speed is insufficient for a direct exchange. He therefore acts frightened, offers a bribe, and attacks when Kong Jie looks away, accepting public accusations of shamelessness because a practical victory for his teacher matters more to him than a polished reputation. Zhang Xuan's discovery of the dormant Ancient Emperor Bloodline gives Yuan Tao a way beyond tricks alone. A specially prepared crimson medicinal fluid must be rubbed into his skin, causing pain like repeated flaying; when his resolve begins to fail, the thought of disappointing Zhang Xuan makes him continue until the entire bottle is absorbed. Scale-like armor forms over his skin, a charge breaks a thick tree without hurting him, and his defense and striking power multiply. The ordeal turns his loyalty into physical development: perseverance under pain awakens the very strength that his lack of formal education had concealed. (Chapters 88, 181)

Choosing a clan without changing teachers

Zhang Xuan continues looking for compatible substances to deepen the awakening. Because the Emperor Bloodline is associated with formidable physical defense, the Dragon-blooded Great River Snake's inner core can stimulate it, and later resources further improve Yuan Tao's body. His unusual blood eventually draws attention in Hongyuan Empire, where a staged duel makes him bleed and allows a visiting Yuan Clan elder to confirm his identity through bloodline resonance. The Yuan Clan explains that Yuan Tao is not an accidental orphan. Its Ancient Emperor Bloodline has weakened over generations, so the clan teleports children into ancient ruins where the old environment might restore a complete inheritance. Most die or never awaken; Yuan Tao survives in Tianxuan Kingdom and manifests the purest form the clan has seen for millennia. His recovery makes him both a lost young master and the prospective heir on whom the clan's revival depends. (Chapters 698)

Yuan Tao nevertheless refuses to leave without Zhang Xuan's approval. The Yuan Clan can offer the complete heritage, but the teacher who accepted him at his lowest rank remains the authority he trusts. When Zhang Xuan tells him that returning is necessary to reach greater heights, Yuan Tao kneels in tears and initially insists on staying. He finally accepts separation as an assignment rather than abandonment, vowing to awaken the bloodline fully and justify the expectations placed upon him. (Chapters 698–700)

Returning as a weapon in his own right

Training with the Yuan Clan transforms Yuan Tao's natural resilience into high-level physical cultivation. When the direct disciples converge to protect Zhang Xuan from the Master Teacher Pavilion's coalition, he enters by climbing tens of thousands of meters and diving at several times the speed of sound. He cannot defeat Zhang Wuheng through ordinary technique, so he converts altitude, weight, and his durable body into a crushing impact that incapacitates the Zhang Clan's First Elder. (Chapters 1,542)

The method is unmistakably his: tactically sound, physically absurd, and disguised beneath comedy. After landing on Zhang Wuheng with his backside, Yuan Tao pretends to misunderstand the situation, pulls the injured elder from the earth by the head, and offers a dubious cure until the man flees. The performance humiliates an enemy who had attacked his teacher while allowing Yuan Tao to maintain the fiction of concern between allied Sage Clans. (Chapters 1,542)

He then stands with the other returned disciples in demanding that the institutions which condemned Zhang Xuan apologize publicly. Yuan Tao asks for both a continent-wide apology and an extravagant payment, using bravado to keep pressure on the Master Teacher Pavilion. The once-lowest student now faces the world's highest authorities without deference, but the motive remains the same as in his earliest classroom fight: an insult or threat to Zhang Xuan is a debt he considers his responsibility to collect. Bearing an inheritance meant to use him

The Hundred Schools of Philosophers later kidnaps Yuan Tao because his unique bloodline can substitute for a Celestial Amulet and open one of the Temple of Confucius's subordinate halls. With his senses sealed and protective power placed around him, they force him to lift the altar in the Apricot Pavilion. Pressure ignites his Emperor Bloodline, manifests the earth-aspected Longxi avatar, and lets him draw seemingly boundless strength from the ground as long as his feet remain planted. (Chapters 1,731, 1,750–1,755)

Luo Ruoxin recognizes an opportunity inside that exploitation. Terra Qilin blood essence, sharing the Emperor Bloodline's earth attribute, strengthens the Longxi manifestation and lets Yuan Tao tear the altar free. Zhang Xuan then drives the phantasm of Kong shi's accumulated lectures into Yuan Tao. The phantasm and Terra Qilin share an origin in Kong shi's Temple, allowing Yuan Tao to assimilate both its enormous energy and its trove of cultivation knowledge rather than serving merely as the captors' key. Assimilation swells him to a giant, drives his cultivation from Aureate Body through Sempiternal realm consummation, and summons an Ancient Sage Ordeal. The surge is still not limitless. Even with Ancient Sage blood and an available Aeon of Ancient Sage, he lacks the total accumulation required; the ordeal terminates before completion, making any second attempt at least twice as hard. He leaves the Temple with an Ancient Sage-grade body and extraordinary inheritance but the humiliating technical status of a failed breakthrough, a reminder that constitution and fortune cannot erase the need for sufficient foundations. Surviving failure and crossing the final threshold

Yuan Tao's failed ordeal becomes a prolonged personal conflict. While his seniors and juniors reach Ancient Sage, he waits for a second ordeal whose timing he cannot predict and consoles himself by overeating. The delay wounds his pride because he believes slow advancement shames his teacher, yet the group still assigns him its most important defensive role. His body has been tempered by the first ordeal and the assimilated phantasm until it is comparable to an Ancient Sage artifact, allowing him to ram even far stronger opponents and absorb attacks the others cannot. When the disciples mistakenly attack the newly inaugurated Sovereign Chen Yong, unaware that he is Liu Yang, Yuan Tao joins their coordinated assault as the physical vanguard. His charge helps turn six separate specialties into a formation capable of pressing an opponent whose realm exceeds theirs. The episode demonstrates both the value and limit of his path at this stage: his body can contend with Ancient Sages before his cultivation formally reaches that realm, but strength alone does not give him the perception to recognize a disguised brother-disciple. Yuan Tao eventually survives the second Ancient Sage Ordeal and reaches Great Philosopher realm, then advances with the rest of the lineage. Zhang Xuan later shatters and rebuilds the disciples' meridian systems so they can safely absorb the Azure's crushing, mercury-like spiritual energy; after five dangerous days, all nine reach Ancient Sage 4-dan Dimension Shatterer realm. Yuan Tao thus crosses the threshold that once rejected him, not by pretending the failure never happened but by preserving the durable foundation needed for a harder second attempt. Carrying the Emperor Bloodline into the Firmament

After following the lineage through the Azure and into the Firmament, Yuan Tao initially loses the freedom his great body once gave him. The higher world's pressure and scarcity leave the disciples dependent on Zhang Xuan again, though Yuan Tao's enormous appetite returns as soon as the group receives a proper meal. At the Celestial Mountain he competes for an Aura of Divinity alongside the others and proves strong enough to draw the attention of a God Monarch. (Chapters 2,075–2,077, 2,103–2,106, 2,131–2,135)

The Acheron God Monarch takes Yuan Tao into the Sky of Acheron and supplies the resources for him to become a Conferred God King. By the time of the Flood of Spiritual Energy, the monarch boasts of Yuan Tao as one of three prodigies expected to dominate the Flooding Sea. The boast inadvertently reveals a larger truth when Yuan Tao introduces the eleven new conferred experts by their lineage rankings and names himself fifth: the God Monarchs' successors are all students of the same mortal teacher. In the Flooding Sea, Yuan Tao remains one of the lineage's strongest defensive combatants and reunites with Zhang Xuan as part of the ten disciples who arrive after Zhao Ya. His conferred title and Acheron affiliation do not replace his original identity; he kneels with the others and presents the power cultivated by a God Monarch as the outcome of Zhang Xuan's foundation. At his latest named appearance, he is alive, operating with the other Conferred God Kings, and acknowledged as one of the strongest experts in the Nine Skies. (Chapters 2,241, 2,251, 2,259)

Appearance and personality

Yuan Tao is consistently recognizable by his plump build and exceptional appetite. Early narration and other characters openly call him a fatty, and his bulk initially seems like part of his comic, low-ranked image. Bloodline activation can cover his skin in scale-like armor or expand him to enormous size under an influx of energy, but he normally returns to the same rounded human form. Even in the Firmament, a feast makes observers wonder whether a mystical beast is hiding inside his stomach. (Chapters 21, 87, 181, 1,755–1,756, 2,106)

He is resourceful, shameless in a calculated way, and extremely adaptable. Yuan Tao readily feigns fear, distracts opponents, uses his backside as a falling weapon, and turns formal demands into exaggerated negotiations. These choices are not random foolishness. He understands when his speed or cultivation is inferior and changes the terms of a contest until defense, surprise, or social embarrassment favors him. Zhang Xuan explicitly regards him as the most adaptable of the direct disciples. (Chapters 214–215, 793, 1,542, 1,555)

Beneath the comedy is strong pride and attachment. Yuan Tao endures an agonizing awakening because he cannot bear to betray Zhang Xuan's trust, refuses the Yuan Clan until his teacher approves, and interprets falling behind his fellow disciples as a personal failure. He can be gluttonous and mischievous, but threats to his teacher strip away any hesitation. His development turns street-level survival instinct into the confidence to confront Sage Clans and God Monarchs while preserving the irreverence that lets him see solutions more solemn fighters miss. Abilities and cultivation

Ancient Emperor Bloodline

Yuan Tao possesses the complete Ancient Emperor Bloodline inherited from the Yuan Clan. The clan sends children into ancient ruins because proximity to older environments can restore a bloodline that has thinned over generations; Yuan Tao's survival in Tianxuan Kingdom produces the purest form found in millennia. Its core attribute is earth. By tapping the weight and stability of the ground, he can bring forth extraordinary physical strength, speed, and especially defense, with a fully awakened manifestation described as comparable in potential to Zhao Ya's Pure Yin Body and Wei Ruyan's Innate Poison Body. Awakening progresses through compatible substances and ordeals rather than a single effortless release. Zhang Xuan's crimson medicinal fluid first produces scale-like armor; Dragon-blooded materials with powerful defense and later Terra Qilin blood deepen the response. In the Apricot Pavilion, a Longxi avatar appears behind Yuan Tao, and contact with the earth makes his might seem inexhaustible. That grounding is also a condition: the fullest expression described there depends on his feet remaining on the surface, so aerial displacement and opponents who deny stable footing can limit the advantage. Defensive body and impact combat

Yuan Tao's body is both shield and primary weapon. Even before full awakening, stronger opponents struggle to breach his skin, and he can charge through a thick tree without pain. Yuan Clan cultivation, Temple inheritance, and the first Ancient Sage Ordeal eventually temper him until his physical body is comparable to an Ancient Sage artifact. He fights through tackles, ramming attacks, and the conversion of height or mass into kinetic force rather than relying on an elaborate named weapon art. (Chapters 181, 195, 1,542, 1,849)

This specialization gives him exceptional survivability but does not make him invulnerable. His earliest win over Kong Jie requires deception because the slower Yuan Tao cannot land a blow reliably across a realm gap. The Hundred Schools still has to protect him from the Apricot Pavilion's branches while his senses are sealed, and even a body capable of facing Ancient Sages cannot supply the cultivation energy missing from his first breakthrough attempt. His mature style therefore combines durability with tactical positioning and the other disciples' support rather than treating endurance as a substitute for judgment. Kong shi's phantasm and cultivation progression

The phantasm Yuan Tao assimilates is a manifestation of many years of Kong shi's lectures, carrying both vast energy and deep cultivation knowledge. Terra Qilin blood makes the fusion possible because the beast and the phantasm share their origin in Kong shi's Temple. Assimilation carries Yuan Tao to Sempiternal realm consummation and substantially improves his future prospects, but it nearly makes his body burst and still fails to provide enough energy for Ancient Sage. The inheritance amplifies what his bloodline can hold; it does not remove his body's capacity limits or guarantee a breakthrough. (Chapters 1,755–1,756)

After clearing the more difficult second Ancient Sage Ordeal, Yuan Tao advances from Great Philosopher to Dimension Shatterer realm and crosses into the higher worlds with his fellow disciples. In the Firmament, an Aura of Divinity enables godhood, and the Acheron God Monarch's resources bring him to Conferred God King realm. His latest state combines a God King conferment, an earth-aspected complete Emperor Bloodline, an Ancient Sage-tempered body, and the accumulated instruction of both Zhang Xuan and Kong shi's phantasm. Zhang Xuan

Zhang Xuan is the first teacher to see value beneath Yuan Tao's poor results and lack of education. He supplies the cultivation method and awakening resources that let Yuan Tao understand his own body, defends his right to remain Yuan Tao's teacher before the Yuan Clan, and then accepts the pain of separation so the student can inherit his bloodline properly. Yuan Tao's loyalty is equally active: he makes Zhang Xuan's reputation the reason to endure pain, returns to fight institutions that threaten him, and continues naming him as teacher after receiving a God Monarch's cultivation. The direct disciples

Yuan Tao's closest social world is Zhang Xuan's lineage. Zhao Ya, Wang Ying, Zheng Yang, Liu Yang, and he begin as the first class, later joined by disciples including Lu Chong and Wei Ruyan. He jokes and schemes with them, accepts Zhao Ya's authority as first senior, and supplies the defensive center of their coordinated attacks. In the Firmament he personally explains their rankings to the astonished God Monarchs, defining all eleven as one family before any of their new institutional affiliations. The Yuan Clan and the Acheron God Monarch

The Yuan Clan is Yuan Tao's blood family, the source of his complete physical heritage, and an institution that depends on him for renewal. Its decision to send children into ancient ruins costs many lives and leaves Yuan Tao to grow up as an orphan, but its representatives recognize his authority and seek Zhang Xuan's consent rather than simply removing him. Yuan Tao accepts the clan's training without allowing heirship to displace his discipleship. (Chapters 696–700)

The Acheron God Monarch later fills a similar role at a higher scale, taking Yuan Tao for his aptitude and cultivating him to Conferred God King realm. The monarch is proud enough to boast about the young expert yet discovers that Yuan Tao's primary hierarchy predates the Sky of Acheron. Their relationship is therefore patronage rather than replacement: the Acheron inheritance expands his strength, while Zhang Xuan's lineage continues to determine whom he calls senior, junior, and teacher.
