Zhao Ya

Zhao Ya is one of Zhang Xuan's earliest direct disciples and the recognized first senior of his expanding lineage. The daughter of Baiyu City's lord, she first approaches the disgraced Hongtian Academy teacher intending to expose him, only to become one of the clearest demonstrations of his ability to diagnose a student's hidden potential. His discovery of her Pure Yin Body turns what she believes to be an embarrassing illness into the foundation of a cultivation path that eventually carries her from a minor kingdom to the peak of the Firmament. Her importance extends beyond fast advancement. Zhao Ya repeatedly chooses loyalty and principle over convenient power: she accepts separation from her teacher so that she can become strong enough to help him, rejects the Glacier Plain Court's lethal method for fully awakening her constitution, endures the destruction and reconstruction of her meridians, and continues to place her teacher and fellow disciples before institutional interests. By the latest stage of the story, she is a Conferred God King of the Sky of Adamant Gold, renowned as one of the Firmament's strongest conferred experts while remaining, first and foremost, Zhang Xuan's disciple. Biography

From proud skeptic to devoted disciple

Zhao Ya arrives at Hongtian Academy as the privileged daughter of Baiyu City's lord, educated from childhood and intent on entering the class of the celebrated Lu Xun. When she hears that the academy's worst-ranked teacher has supposedly doubled a student's strength with a single pointer, her impatient pride drives her to challenge the story. Zhang Xuan refuses to entertain her unless she acknowledges him as her teacher, and their contest of wills ends with her cleaning his classroom and accepting his tutelage while secretly planning to record evidence of his incompetence. (Chapter 5)

That plan collapses when Zhang Xuan identifies a private physical affliction that physicians and even her family had failed to understand. He later explains that she possesses the Pure Yin Body and that Baiyu City's White Jade Pure Maiden Skill, although useful to ordinary female cultivators, is dangerously unsuitable for her: it compounds the yin energy already accumulating in her body. His accuracy turns her suspicion into trust, and she voluntarily defends her decision to study under him when her butler Yao Han demands that she withdraw. (Chapters 6, 22)

As one of Zhang Xuan's original students, Zhao Ya trains alongside Wang Ying, Zheng Yang, Liu Yang, and Yuan Tao. Learning that their teacher has risked himself in pursuit of a way to awaken her constitution gives the group a shared determination to justify his efforts. Zhao Ya's early awakening makes her pure-yin zhenqi intensely cold, and she masters the Baiyu City techniques Falling Heavens and its more difficult derivative, Descending Heavens, in time to coordinate with her classmates against Lu Xun. Her ability to transmit the force of her palm through Yuan Tao without injuring him demonstrates both relentless practice and the trust already binding Zhang Xuan's first class together. Turning talent into a foundation of her own

Zhao Ya leaves Tianxuan Kingdom with the rest of the class and continues training as Zhang Xuan moves through the larger powers beyond Hongtian Academy. At the beginning of those travels, she remains among his strongest students, reaching Zongshi realm pinnacle while the group heads toward Honghai City and the soul-oracle tomb. Her progress is not presented as effortless: Zhang Xuan repeatedly supplies corrected techniques and resources, while Zhao Ya answers them with sustained cultivation and readiness to accompany the group into danger. Her growth accelerates around the Myriad Kingdom Alliance. A Frigid Yin Pill and the cold resources of the local Glacier Plain Court help her advance beyond Zhizun realm, and the court's Glacier Plain awakens thirty percent of her Pure Yin Body. In half a month she rises from Half-Transcension to Transcendent Mortal 4-dan, temporarily surpassing her teacher's cultivation and acquiring the increasingly refined, otherworldly bearing associated with her constitution. These gains establish a pattern that persists throughout her life: Zhao Ya is often the first of the disciples to reach a new threshold, but her standing within the group comes as much from discipline as talent. She cultivates while traveling, takes part in collective operations rather than treating her gift as a reason to stand apart, and gradually assumes the practical role of first senior. Even much later, when her juniors greet her as their senior after crossing into the Azure, she first checks that all eight of them survived and directs their attention toward finding their teacher. Leaving her teacher in order to become his support

The Glacier Plain Court recognizes Zhao Ya as the long-awaited bearer of the constitution required of its highest court chief. Envoy Liu Xuan argues that the court possesses the inheritance and resources needed to awaken her far faster than Zhang Xuan could alone. Zhang Xuan refuses to decide her future for her, but Zhao Ya chooses to leave with the envoy. Her motive is not dissatisfaction with his teaching; she wants to become powerful enough to stand beside him and repay the protection and guidance she has received instead of remaining a burden on him. The departure is emotionally difficult for both teacher and student. Zhao Ya kowtows to Zhang Xuan and promises that, wherever she goes, she will always remain his student; after he leaves, she admits that she is reluctant to part even though she understands the necessity of independent growth. Her decision becomes an early model for the other direct disciples, several of whom later accept separate inheritances for the same reason. (Chapters 556–557, 1,138)

At the court headquarters, her cultivation and status rise with extraordinary speed. Within months she is acknowledged as the Glacier Plain Court's young court chief, with strength beyond the Leaving Aperture realm cultivators who represent the court at the Sanctum of Sages. A long-distance formation eventually lets her speak with Zhang Xuan; the more mature Zhao Ya can barely restrain her emotions when she sees him, and the exchange confirms that neither institutional elevation nor prolonged separation has displaced their bond. Defying a cruel inheritance and rebuilding from ruin

The promise of the Glacier Plain Court's inheritance conceals a moral crisis. Zhao Ya learns that her mother was the previous court chief, that she had fled after sealing her cultivation, and that the court later forced her to return. She also discovers that the final traditional step for awakening the Pure Yin Body requires harvesting yang energy from male disciples treated as disposable cauldrons. Zhao Ya refuses categorically, accepting the possibility of being crippled rather than killing innocent people for her advancement. (Chapters 1,495–1,497)

First Elder You Ruoxin responds by imprisoning her and fusing an Icy Silkworm-based Heaven Sealing Lock into her body. The lock freezes both meridians and dantian, making any attempt to circulate zhenqi potentially fatal. When Zhang Xuan infiltrates the court after receiving her plea for help, Zhao Ya's deepest concern is that he not be harmed on her account. She ultimately forces her sealed power into motion to protect him, strikes back at You Ruoxin, and shatters every one of her frozen meridians together with the lock. The act frees her from the restraint but leaves her unable to cultivate and close to death. (Chapters 1,497–1,498, 1,503–1,506)

Zhang Xuan keeps her alive with Heaven's Path zhenqi and acupuncture, then seeks a way to replace what no longer exists. Using an anomalous vine from the Dongxu Gourd, he constructs a new meridian network compiled from human, saint-beast, and Otherworldly Demon patterns. Zhao Ya endures the prolonged, excruciating process without allowing him to stop, even as powerful enemies surround them. The resulting network not only restores her path to cultivation but becomes more rational and resilient than an ordinary human network, transforming a catastrophe into one of the central sources of her later potential. Breaking the seals placed on her future

After recovering, Zhao Ya remains involved in the conflicts surrounding the Temple of Confucius. The Hundred Schools of Philosophers kidnap her and Wei Ruyan, then use Zhao Ya's Pure Yin Body to decipher the winter-aspected seal on the Canvas of Four Seasons. She cooperates only because her captors promise an opportunity for Zhang Xuan to break through to Ancient Sage. Once he reaches her, the mental control on her breaks, and he rebukes both the kidnappers and her willingness to trade her own safety for his advancement. (Chapters 1,733–1,734)

The episode nevertheless exposes the exceptional consequences of her rebuilt meridians. She rapidly assimilates a droplet of Ancient Sage blood that would normally take far longer to refine, gaining a life-preserving reserve before guiding Zhang Xuan toward the other captured disciples. The same energy-conversion efficiency later supports her sustained advancement, while her cold energy and constitution make her a key combatant in the group rather than merely a protected target. Zhao Ya reaches Ancient Sage and then Great Philosopher realm as the disciples reunite. During a test against Kong Shiyao, she holds her ground despite the latter's higher realm, using strong fundamentals, combat experience, and attacks aimed at exploitable openings; after taking in a droplet of deity blood, she breaks through to Blood Reincarnation realm and wins decisively. At the passage to the Azure, her artificial meridians uniquely withstand the mercury-like spiritual energy. She becomes the first disciple able to absorb it, advances to Dimension Shatterer realm, and discovers that further progress is still blocked by the capacity of her body and the limits of the lower world. Rising through the Azure and the Firmament

After a year on the Master Teacher Continent, Zhao Ya and eight fellow disciples reach Ancient Sage 4-dan consummation and decide that waiting for news of Zhang Xuan is no longer acceptable. They cross the spatial passage to the Azure, suffering internal spatial tears in the process, but their first collective priority remains locating him. Zhao Ya leads the group as its senior; even while wounded, she reasons from the different flow of time that their teacher may still be near Xuanjiang City, and the disciples soon reunite with him. (Chapters 2,075–2,077)

The disciples later follow Zhang Xuan onward to the Firmament. Initially its pressure reduces them to near helplessness, and Zhao Ya is frustrated that she cannot share her injured teacher's burdens. At the Celestial Mountain, however, she hunts a white-tiger manifestation of the Aura of Divinity, defeating an opponent with the strength of a low-tier god through her Pure Yin Body, aggressive persistence, and the recovery pills Zhang Xuan prepared. Absorbing the higher-tier aura makes her a true god and triggers the Bell of Conferred Kings; God Monarch Fumeng personally takes her to the Sky of Adamant Gold because of her affinity with its cultivation. Under Fumeng's resources and accelerated training, Zhao Ya becomes a Conferred God King reputed to rival the strongest new conferred experts and to cripple opponents through her unique constitution. In the Flooding Sea she protects the privacy of Zhang Xuan's identity, disciplines Hu Xiao when she learns that he attacked her teacher, and cuts through a barrier formed by several veteran Conferred God Kings to reach Zhang Xuan. Her immediate response to seeing him is to kneel in tears and identify herself as his unfilial disciple, showing that her new rank has changed neither her hierarchy nor her loyalties. At her latest appearance, Zhao Ya remains one of the strongest members of the eleven-disciple group. She helps gather rare resources for Zhang Xuan, leads her juniors into a coordinated attempt to claim the Nine Skies lotus leaf, and joins the effort to stabilize the dimension rift threatening the Flooding Sea. When that effort fails, her continued instinct is to turn toward her teacher for a solution. She is alive when the collapsing space ejects the disciples from the final confrontation. Appearance and personality

Zhao Ya is consistently described as an exceptional beauty. Even before her constitution awakens, she is a striking young woman accustomed to admiration; the Pure Yin Body subsequently transforms her domineering young-mistress bearing into the grace of an otherworldly fairy. By the time she becomes the Glacier Plain Court's young court chief, she has grown taller, and her features and refined disposition are said to rival nearly every woman Zhang Xuan knows. In the Firmament, she appears as a tall, slender warrior with black hair, silver armor, a sword, and the majestic bearing of a goddess of war. (Chapters 5, 208, 1,314, 1,496, 2,259)

Her earliest defining trait is impatience. Zhao Ya reacts to doubt and provocation with immediate defiance, hates losing, and can be baited into proving herself. Zhang Xuan's instruction gradually turns this stubbornness into disciplined resolve rather than erasing it. The same temperament that once makes her scrub a classroom rather than admit defeat later lets her practice Descending Heavens relentlessly, refuse the Glacier Plain Court even under torture, and endure the reconstruction of an entire meridian network. She is intensely loyal, protective, and morally direct. Her teacher is her clearest boundary: threats or insults against him provoke a response that she would not make on her own behalf. Yet her devotion is not merely emotional dependence. She repeatedly seeks strength so she can reduce his burdens, leads the other disciples as their first senior, checks on Lu Chong when his progress appears dangerously fast, and emphasizes mutual protection within the lineage. Her refusal to harvest innocent cultivators for a complete awakening shows that this loyalty is paired with an ethical line she will not cross for power. (Chapters 1,496–1,497, 1,848, 2,242, 2,251)

Abilities and cultivation

Pure Yin Body

Zhao Ya inherits the rare Pure Yin Body from her mother, a former Glacier Plain Court chief. It manifests the world's purest yin within a female body and, once awakened, sharply accelerates cultivation and the comprehension of cultivation and battle techniques. Its direct combat expression is cold energy: her zhenqi can freeze her surroundings, bring snow over a vast area, pressure enemies, and infuse her physical or sword attacks with a frigid quality. At high levels she can drive the constitution hard enough to turn the surrounding hundred li into winter, while in the Firmament her constitution is said to let her cripple opponents with unusual ease. (Chapters 22, 1,496, 1,849, 1,905, 2,254)

The constitution also has important limitations. Before Zhang Xuan diagnoses it, her use of another yin-aspected art causes excess yin to accumulate rather than circulate correctly, producing physical distress and aggravating her irritable temperament. Awakening it requires increasingly rare cold resources, and the Glacier Plain Court's inherited method claims that full awakening demands the balancing of yin and yang through fatal harvesting. Zhao Ya rejects that method, so the corpus never establishes that she completes the traditional final awakening; her later power comes through continued cultivation, reconstructed meridians, and higher-world resources instead. Meridian reconstruction and energy assimilation

The Heaven Sealing Lock crisis destroys Zhao Ya's original meridians, but Zhang Xuan replaces them with a Dongxu Gourd vine laid out in a newly compiled network. The vine can carry spatial and lightning power and is far more resilient than ordinary meridians. Its path combines features found in humans, saint beasts, and Otherworldly Demons, bringing her internal circulation closer to what Zhang Xuan identifies as a more efficient natural arrangement. This grants Zhao Ya extraordinary throughput and conversion: she can assimilate Ancient Sage blood quickly and survive energies that would crush an ordinary human cultivator's channels. This ability is not a generally reproducible technique. Zhao Ya survives only because Zhang Xuan spends a day sustaining every part of her body with Heaven's Path zhenqi, because the anomalous vine is available, and because she endures a process in which a single error could kill her. The new meridians later let her absorb the Azure's mercury-like spiritual energy and reach Dimension Shatterer realm before the other disciples, but they do not grant limitless growth: at primary stage, her meridians and dantian become saturated, and further advancement requires the higher world's environment to expand her body's capacity. Combat arts, swordsmanship, and teamwork

Zhao Ya begins with Baiyu City's palm techniques. Falling Heavens delivers a cold, crushing palm strike, while Descending Heavens transmits force through an intervening target to strike an opponent at range; her early use of it depends on Yuan Tao trusting her control completely. As her cultivation rises, the sword becomes her principal weapon. She combines its cutting reach with the freezing field of the Pure Yin Body, and her later attacks are sharp and aggressive enough to contest Ancient Sages and sever a joint barrier raised by multiple veteran Conferred God Kings. Her combat ability rests on unusually firm fundamentals rather than constitution alone. Against Kong Shiyao, she compensates for lower cultivation with experience, precise judgment of openings, and movements that carry a deeper conception than their surface form. As first senior, she is also an experienced formation fighter: she coordinates naturally with her fellow disciples, channels power with them into a single focal point, and leads group efforts against threats too strong for any one disciple. Her effectiveness is greatest when her cold field, resilient meridians, sword, and the lineage's practiced teamwork reinforce one another. (Chapters 1,733, 1,905, 2,260–2,262)

Cultivation progression and latest state

Zhao Ya begins as a low-level Hongtian Academy student, but the correction of her cultivation path and the first awakening of her constitution produce rapid early breakthroughs. She reaches Dingli realm pinnacle before the Teacher Evaluation, Zongshi realm pinnacle during the journey beyond Tianxuan, Half-Transcension shortly before reaching the Glacier Plain, and Transcendent Mortal 4-dan after the Glacier Plain resource awakens thirty percent of her constitution. At the Glacier Plain Court headquarters, concentrated training carries her beyond Leaving Aperture realm within months. (Chapters 208, 223, 448, 548, 555, 1,290)

After her meridians are rebuilt, Zhao Ya advances through Sempiternal realm, Great Philosopher realm, and Blood Reincarnation realm, then uses heavy spiritual energy to reach Dimension Shatterer realm. A further year of cultivation brings her to Ancient Sage 4-dan consummation; in the Azure she reaches Heavenly Semi-Divinity, and the Celestial Mountain's high-tier Aura of Divinity makes her a god. God Monarch Fumeng's subsequent training elevates her to Conferred God King. At the latest point in the corpus, this remains her confirmed realm: she is among the strongest Conferred God Kings, but she has not become a God Monarch. Zhang Xuan

Zhang Xuan transforms Zhao Ya's life by identifying the Pure Yin Body, correcting the technique harming her, and treating her as a student whose choices matter. Zhao Ya responds with absolute filial loyalty: she leaves to acquire power that can support him, preserves his handwritten manual even after outgrowing it, risks herself for opportunities that might help him, and continues to kneel to him after becoming a Conferred God King. Their bond is repeatedly tested by separation and institutional pressure, but neither her court rank nor her divine cultivation displaces the teacher-disciple relationship. Her fellow direct disciples

Zhao Ya is the first senior of Zhang Xuan's direct disciples and often serves as their organizing center. Her earliest friendships with Wang Ying, Zheng Yang, Liu Yang, and Yuan Tao are forged through shared training and the Teacher Evaluation. The lineage later expands to include Lu Chong, Wei Ruyan, and others; Zhao Ya worries about their health, coordinates their battles, corrects indiscretion, and insists that they protect one another. Family and the Glacier Plain Court

Zhao Ya is the daughter of Baiyu City Lord Zhao Feng and the previous chief of the Glacier Plain Court. She grows up apart from her mother and learns only after entering the court that her mother had fled its coercive awakening tradition, married Zhao Feng, and surrendered herself to protect husband and daughter. Zhao Ya initially accepts the court because it offers the resources to become independent and help Zhang Xuan, but she turns against First Elder You Ruoxin when institutional survival is placed above innocent lives and her autonomy. Although she holds the title of young court chief, her later story is defined more by rejecting the court's abusive inheritance than by governing it. (Chapters 5, 556, 1,496–1,498)

God Monarch Fumeng and the Sky of Adamant Gold

God Monarch Fumeng recognizes that Zhao Ya is suited to the cultivation of the Sky of Adamant Gold and takes her from the Celestial Mountain after her divine breakthrough. His resources make possible her rapid rise to Conferred God King, and Zhao Ya represents his sky during the Flood of Spiritual Energy. She nevertheless makes clear that this new patronage is subordinate to her original lineage: she punishes a fellow Adamant Gold expert for attacking Zhang Xuan and publicly reunites with her teacher even when doing so exposes the connection among the God Monarchs' carefully groomed successors. Celestial Amulets of Legacy

The Celestial Amulets of Legacy govern access to the Temple of Confucius and its Subordinate Halls during the expedition in which Zhao Ya is forced to decipher the Canvas of Four Seasons. Zhao Ya is not shown claiming a personal amulet. Instead, her direct relevance is complementary: the cold-energy light sphere formed around her and the Hundred Schools youths can pass through the Hall of Great Accomplishment's entrance, while the Xingmeng Sword Saints enter through the protection of their amulet.
