Liu Yang

Liu Yang is one of Zhang Xuan's five original students and the third senior among his direct disciples. He begins as an insecure young fist practitioner whose damaged right arm has made his training ineffective. Zhang Xuan's diagnosis gives him both a viable path and a teacher he comes to defend with uncompromising loyalty, but Liu Yang's desire to prove that he can contribute independently also leaves him vulnerable to manipulation. That conflict drives him away from the lineage for a time and eventually into the most politically difficult role held by any of Zhang Xuan's students. (Chapters 3–4, 59–67, 1,226–1,230)

After learning to reverse the simplified Heaven's Path Divine Art, Liu Yang can reproduce the Zhenqi of Slaughter and pass among the Otherworldly Demons as one of their own. He accepts the dying Sovereign Chen Yong's inheritance so that he can understand and restrain the people humanity regards as its mortal enemy. As the next Sovereign Chen Yong, he defeats a coup, unifies the Spirit Tribe, and begins replacing predation and war with cultivation reform, trade, education, and a ceasefire. He later entrusts the stabilized throne to his own disciple, follows Zhang Xuan's lineage into the Azure and the Firmament, and becomes a Conferred God King of the Sky of Cloud Dragon. Biography

From an unwanted wager to absolute trust

Liu Yang enters Hongtian Academy intending to find a capable teacher, only to be treated as a stake in Cao Xiong's attempt to humiliate Zhang Xuan. He is reluctant to acknowledge the academy's only zero-score teacher and initially follows Zhang Xuan's instruction only because Cao has already wagered away the right to recruit him. His training record exposes the problem neither teacher nor student has understood: the Liu family's Lotus Acupoint Breakthrough Might damaged the meridians of his right arm, leaving the left much stronger even though the forms he practices are right-handed. Zhang Xuan tells him to execute the Soaring Flower Fist with his left arm, and the immediate doubling of his measured strength forces Liu Yang to recognize that the apparently disgraced teacher can see his body more clearly than anyone before him. The correction is not merely a combat trick. Zhang Xuan compiles a personalized circulation method intended to restore the damaged channels and later secures a Meridian Rejuvenation Pill, allowing Liu Yang's right arm to recover completely. Liu Yang responds to that sustained care with unusually rapid trust. During Cao Xiong's Enlightenment Will Trial, his confidence in Cao barely registers while his trust in Zhang Xuan reaches a level that proves the teacher-student relationship sincere despite its short duration. The youth who did not want Zhang Xuan at the start now regards the attack on his teacher's reputation as an attack on himself. (Chapters 59–67, 218)

That loyalty is already dangerous when Bai Chao insults Zhang Xuan and challenges Liu Yang to a direct clash. Liu Yang recognizes the opponent's Steel Armor Art and knows that he is being provoked, but he accepts anyway. The Heaven's Path Fist Art lets him break both of Bai Chao's hands in one exchange, yet the victory also reveals his fault: pride in his teacher can override restraint. In the Teacher Evaluation that follows, Liu Yang fights as part of the five-student formation against Lu Xun, providing direct fist power while learning that devotion must be paired with coordination rather than reckless individual retaliation. Becoming a direct disciple

Liu Yang travels with Zhang Xuan's class beyond Tianxuan Kingdom and repeatedly joins the other students in defending their teacher's standing. During the Tianwu period, however, Zhang Xuan also teaches several of them under the identity “Liu Cheng.” When that deception is revealed, Liu Yang is ashamed that he had compared the two teachers without recognizing the care and methods behind both identities. The discovery deepens rather than weakens his allegiance because it shows how much Zhang Xuan had done without demanding recognition. (Chapters 329–408)

At the formal disciple-acknowledgment ceremony, Liu Yang becomes Zhang Xuan's third direct disciple, following Zhao Ya and Wang Ying and preceding Zheng Yang, Yuan Tao, and Lu Chong. This rank becomes part of his identity: he is competitive with his peers but understands their arts well enough to complement them in a group, and he treats the defense of their common teacher as a collective obligation. The hierarchy remains unchanged even after separate inheritances and divine titles scatter the disciples across worlds. (Chapters 408, 966, 2,241)

A guest elder still searching for his own path

At Hongyuan Master Teacher Academy, Liu Yang's fists are strong enough that a brief exchange with Zheng Yang sends the spear user's weapon jolting away and impresses Xue Zhenyang, one of the academy's leading martial artists. Liu Yang, Wang Ying, and Zheng Yang accept positions as guest elders of the Martial Arts School and lecture for payment, intending to supply resources to the teacher who has continually supplied theirs. When academy politics place Zhang Xuan and the Martial Arts School in conflict, the three kneel publicly and identify him as their teacher, sacrificing the independence and prestige of their appointments rather than allow their positions to be used against him. (Chapters 793–813)

The guest-elder role proves that Liu Yang can teach and apply more than one rigid fist routine. The direct disciples exchange techniques with one another, and at the Qingyuan Combat Master Hall Liu Yang studies spear arts for only a few hours before defeating the head of the Weapon Division in a single move. His command of the spear remains secondary to his fists, but the episode demonstrates the speed with which a foundation built from Zhang Xuan's corrected methods lets him analyze an unfamiliar weapon and use it practically. That breadth does not quiet his insecurity. As Zhao Ya, Zheng Yang, and other disciples depart for constitutions, clans, or specialist inheritances, Liu Yang remains with Zhang Xuan and feels that he has no comparable path of his own. He trains until his body is overworked and measures himself against the achievements of all six peers. His motive is not simple envy: he fears failing the responsibility of carrying Zhang Xuan's name and wants an accomplishment that will make the lineage proud. Yet the need to prove his usefulness makes him susceptible to anyone who appears to offer rapid progress or a chance to increase his teacher's standing. (Chapters 1,136–1,139, 1,226)

The royal trap and a self-imposed exile

Qingyuan emperor Chu Tianxing exploits exactly that vulnerability. Liu Yang first refuses the emperor's private invitation, then reconsiders because reconciliation might spare Zhang Xuan further trouble. Concentrated high-tier spirit stones that could help his teacher, knuckledusters suited to his own combat style, and the promise of public recognition for Zhang Xuan all make the offer appear to answer his deepest concerns. Instead, the banquet is a trap: Liu Yang is poisoned, imprisoned, and tortured so that he can be used as leverage against Zhang Xuan. (Chapters 1,226–1,229)

After Sun Qiang and the poison masters rescue him, Liu Yang attacks Chu Tianxing in fury. The emperor dies during the confrontation, but not from the beating itself: the severing of the soul contract connected to Vicious is the immediate cause. Liu Yang does not know that distinction and refuses to hide behind Zhang Xuan's protection. Believing that he has killed the sovereign of an empire, he declares that he will accept the consequences himself. (Chapters 1,229–1,234)

He ultimately leaves a letter and disappears before his teacher can stop him. The decision combines guilt, pride, and a harsh attempt at responsibility. Liu Yang no longer wants enemies to make him a hostage or Zhang Xuan to spend political capital repairing his mistakes, and he concludes that he must find a path not defined by standing behind his fellow disciples. Zhang Xuan, reading the letter, recognizes his own neglect of the student's mounting pressure. The separation is therefore a failure of communication on both sides, but it also begins the independent journey Liu Yang had been seeking. (Chapters 1,230, 1,246)

A human successor in the Otherworldly capital

While wandering alone, Liu Yang enters a dangerous beast lair and, in desperation, reverses the circulation route of the simplified Heaven's Path Divine Art. The altered flow produces Zhenqi of Slaughter comparable in character to that of Sovereign Chen Yong. It lets him kill the beast but leaves him severely injured, and the unusual aura draws the sovereign to him. Guided by the Spirit God's oracle, Sovereign Chen Yong offers Liu Yang his heritage. Liu Yang accepts because Zhang Xuan seeks to end the Otherworldly Demon threat and he believes that understanding the enemy from within may finally let him help. (Chapters 1,792, 1,798)

Under the alias Yang Liu, he absorbs the energy of the blood moon through reversed circulation and rises to Sempiternal realm consummation within months. He gains fame among the Spirit Tribe's younger generation and becomes Sovereign Chen Yong's designated successor, yet rival sovereigns sideline him after staging a coup. Rather than expose himself impulsively, Liu Yang infiltrates the capital deeply enough to build an intelligence network and provide Zhang Xuan with accurate information about the new regime. His growth is no longer confined to striking harder: he learns disguise, patience, surveillance, and how to act inside a hostile political order. (Chapters 1,792–1,799)

When teacher and student reunite, Zhang Xuan gives him Ancient Sage resources and corrects the insecurity that has shaped his choices. Competition with his fellow disciples can motivate cultivation, but turning difference into resentment would only narrow his path. Liu Yang accepts the rebuke and assists Zhang Xuan's palace infiltration with his own information rather than trying to prove himself through another reckless duel. This is a decisive maturation: for the first time, the contribution he wanted so badly comes from skills and relationships he developed independently. (Chapter 1,799)

Sovereign Chen Yong and the work of peace

The succession crisis forces Liu Yang to make decisions that cannot be delegated to his teacher. After Sovereign Chen Ling falls, Liu Yang determines that Sovereign Chen Xing must also die for violating the tribe's rules and betraying its legitimate ruler. He does not allow personal hesitation to prolong the civil conflict. The dying Sovereign Chen Yong then imparts his cultivation and authority to Liu Yang, who survives the Ancient Sage ordeal, inherits the crown, and takes the sovereign's title. The transfer works because Liu Yang's simplified Heaven's Path cultivation can imitate the lineage's energy closely enough to receive it, but the process costs the previous sovereign his remaining power and life. Liu Yang's first challenge as sovereign comes from his own lineage. Zhao Ya and the other disciples attack his inauguration without recognizing him beneath the Otherworldly Demon appearance. He defeats them by exploiting flaws he knows from years of shared training, only for Zhang Xuan to halt the escalating fight and reveal both sides. Liu Yang then discloses his human identity to trusted allies while accepting the more difficult assignment of ruling the tribe rather than immediately returning to his teacher. (Chapters 1,844–1,852)

His rule is not a temporary military occupation. Liu Yang declares himself the sole sovereign, imposes a thousand-year ceasefire, and opens paths for trade, master-teacher instruction, and even intermarriage. New cultivation techniques reduce the tribe's dependence on consuming humans, addressing a material cause of the conflict instead of relying only on threats. Within a month, he assimilates the inherited power to reach Blood Reincarnation realm consummation and consolidates control; after half a year, the developing industries and exchanges have begun to ease tension between the two peoples. (Chapters 1,852–1,853, 1,909)

The reforms reveal the broadest change in Liu Yang's character. The student once willing to break an opponent's hands over an insult now enforces peace among people who have spent millennia killing one another. He remains decisive and backs the new order with severe penalties, but he uses sovereignty to change incentives, education, and cultivation rather than seeking vengeance for humanity's losses. His loyalty to Zhang Xuan has expanded into responsibility for subjects whom his teacher's world still regards as enemies. (Chapters 1,852–1,853, 1,909)

Leaving the throne for the Azure and the Firmament

Liu Yang initially remains on the Master Teacher Continent because the new peace is too fragile to survive his unexplained disappearance. Zhang Xuan specifically cites the danger of another coup when asking his direct disciples not to follow him into the Azure. Over the following year, however, Liu Yang prepares a succession of his own. He entrusts the title of Sovereign Chen Yong to his direct disciple Chen Xiao, and the peaceful state of the tribe after the transfer shows that his institutions no longer depend entirely on his personal presence. (Chapters 1,913, 2,077)

He then crosses into the Azure with eight fellow disciples. The passage leaves all nine badly injured, but they are rescued by Zhang Yuanwai and reunite with Zhang Xuan near Xuanjiang City. Liu Yang advances with the group to Semi-Divinity realm and joins the eleven direct disciples in stabilizing collapsing space during the confrontation with Kong shi's clone. When the clone attacks their teacher, they form a coordinated defense with Semi-Divinity artifacts and accept the risk of entering the golden page's indiscriminate area of effect rather than abandon him. In the Firmament, Liu Yang's early foundation and later training under the Cloud Dragon Monarch carry him to Conferred God King. He, Kong Shiyao, and Zhang Jiuxiao represent the Sky of Cloud Dragon during the Flood of Spiritual Energy, each emanating enough force to distort space. When the eleven disciples discover that the God Monarchs have unknowingly groomed members of the same lineage, Liu Yang retains his rank as their third senior. At his latest individual reference, he remains one of the three recently conferred Cloud Dragon experts whose strength is said to exceed that of ordinary veteran God Kings. (Chapters 2,241, 2,254)

Appearance and personality

Liu Yang is a teenager during his academy years and is explicitly seventeen by the Qingyuan period. The local corpus gives little stable detail about his ordinary coloring or dress. His body is defined more often through function: an initially weakened right arm, a fist practitioner's conditioning, and later the injuries caused by training beyond his endurance. As Yang Liu in the Otherworldly capital, he adopts a tall Spirit Tribe form whose altered height and aura conceal his human identity; the sovereign's crown subsequently marks him as the holder of Sovereign Chen Yong's authority. He is proud, competitive, hot-tempered, and intensely conscious of honor. Insults toward Zhang Xuan can push him into fights he knows are provocations, while the achievements of his fellow disciples create a fear that he is contributing too little. This insecurity is his most consequential weakness: it makes Chu Tianxing's promises effective and persuades him to leave rather than ask his teacher for help. Zhang Xuan's later warning helps him distinguish productive rivalry from envy and accept that service does not require copying another disciple's path. (Chapters 218–224, 1,139, 1,226–1,246, 1,799)

Liu Yang's later conduct retains his decisiveness while adding patience and political judgment. He can spend months undercover, create an intelligence network, execute a traitor when delay would endanger the succession, and remain behind to govern when he would rather accompany Zhang Xuan. His peace program shows that his empathy is no longer confined to his immediate lineage. Even so, his deepest loyalty remains filial: after becoming a sovereign and then a Conferred God King, he still identifies himself through his place among Zhang Xuan's disciples. Abilities and cultivation

Fist arts and combat learning

Liu Yang is fundamentally a close-range fist specialist. His early Soaring Flower Fist and Dragon Inch Fist are undermined by the mismatch between their right-handed routines and his damaged right-arm meridians. Executing the forms with his healthy left arm immediately doubles his output, while treatment later restores the right side. Zhang Xuan's Heaven's Path Fist Art gives him compact destructive force sufficient to break the hands of a defensive specialist through direct impact. The style is effective at ending exchanges quickly, but Liu Yang's readiness to accept provocations can turn that force into a tactical liability. (Chapters 3–4, 59–60, 218–224)

His simplified Heaven's Path foundation also gives him exceptional learning speed and perception of familiar techniques. He can acquire enough spear proficiency in a few hours to defeat a Combat Master Hall division head, and he exchanges arts with the other direct disciples rather than isolating his specialty. That familiarity later lets him identify their habits and flaws during the mistaken attack on his inauguration. The corpus nevertheless continues to frame fists as his primary combat identity; brief mastery of a spear demonstrates adaptability, not a permanent change of specialization. Reversed Heaven's Path circulation and Zhenqi of Slaughter

Liu Yang's signature independent discovery is the reversal of the simplified Heaven's Path Divine Art. Running its circulation route backward changes the character of his zhenqi into the killing energy associated with Otherworldly Demons. The Zhenqi of Slaughter lets him absorb the blood moon's energy, imitate Sovereign Chen Yong's lineage closely enough to receive its cultivation impartation, and conceal himself inside the Spirit Tribe without the ordinary human aura exposing him. It is not the pure Heaven's Path zhenqi wielded by Zhang Xuan, and Liu Yang cannot freely change its properties to the same degree as his teacher. (Chapters 1,798–1,799, 1,841)

The technique also has a firm physiological limit. Zhenqi of Slaughter is compatible with the Azure's mercury-like spiritual energy, but Liu Yang's original human meridian network cannot bear that energy's weight. Unlike Zhao Ya and Zhang Xuan, his channels have not been reconstructed into a more resilient pattern, so the reversed art alone does not let him absorb the energy safely. He reaches Dimension Shatterer realm only after Zhang Xuan later shatters and reforms the disciples' meridians using a mapped network and the reversed circulation method, a process with a real risk of fatal error. Inherited cultivation and sovereign authority

Sovereign Chen Yong's heritage accelerates Liu Yang from Sempiternal realm consummation into Ancient Sage. Cultivation Impartation requires compatible lineages, exact energy control, the donor's willingness to die, and enough Aeon of Ancient Sage to support the breakthrough. Liu Yang meets the compatibility condition because his simplified Heaven's Path art can reproduce the sovereign lineage's energy; after surviving the ordeal, he continues assimilating the inherited power and reaches Blood Reincarnation realm consummation within a month. The gain is therefore neither an effortless inheritance nor a technique he can repeat at will: it consumes the old sovereign's cultivation and depends on extraordinary external resources. As Sovereign Chen Yong, Liu Yang commands the Spirit Tribe's institutions and ritual network. His time undercover gives him intelligence assets before his accession, while the crown provides recognized political authority after it. He combines those tools with direct combat power, legislation, cultivation reform, and diplomacy. The title is transferable rather than personal, and Liu Yang eventually proves that by passing the throne to Chen Xiao before leaving for the Azure. (Chapters 1,792–1,853, 2,077)

Cultivation progression and latest state

Liu Yang begins at Fighter 1-dan with an impaired right arm. Zhang Xuan's tailored instruction and medicine restore the injury and establish the simplified Heaven's Path foundation that supports his rapid progress through the human cultivation realms. His reversed art and Sovereign Chen Yong's training take him to Sempiternal realm consummation; cultivation impartation then raises him through the Ancient Sage threshold, and assimilation carries him to Blood Reincarnation realm consummation. Zhang Xuan's dangerous meridian-reformation method later allows him to reach Dimension Shatterer realm before entering the Azure. (Chapters 3–4, 59–60, 1,798, 1,841–1,853, 1,913)

In the Azure, Liu Yang reaches Semi-Divinity realm and fights as part of the direct disciples' formation. After ascending to the Firmament, the Cloud Dragon Monarch supplies the higher-world resources and accelerated training that culminate in Liu Yang's conferment. His latest explicit state is therefore Conferred God King: far beyond an ordinary God King, equipped by the Sky of Cloud Dragon, and strongest when his fist combat, unusually deep foundation, and long-practiced coordination with his fellow disciples work together. • Zhang Xuan: Zhang Xuan identifies the damaged meridians that have stalled Liu Yang, heals his right arm, and gives him the foundation from which every later path develops. Liu Yang's loyalty is nearly absolute, but his fear of burdening the teacher causes him to conceal his pressure and flee after the Qingyuan incident. Their reunion repairs that failure of communication: Zhang Xuan challenges his envy, while Liu Yang contributes intelligence and later accepts the unwanted duty of remaining behind to govern. Even as sovereign and Conferred God King, he continues to define himself as Zhang Xuan's third disciple. (Chapters 59–67, 1,226–1,246, 1,792–1,913, 2,241–2,254)

• Sovereign Chen Ling and Sovereign Chen Xing: Their coup turns Liu Yang's inheritance into a struggle for political survival. He supplies Zhang Xuan with information against them and ultimately concludes that both traitorous sovereigns must be removed. • Chen Xiao: Chen Xiao is Liu Yang's own direct disciple and successor as Sovereign Chen Yong. • The Cloud Dragon Monarch: The Cloud Dragon Monarch selects Liu Yang as one of three successors from Zhang Xuan's lineage and supplies the resources that raise him to Conferred God King. Liu Yang represents the Sky of Cloud Dragon in the Flooding Sea, but the discovery that the other monarchs' new experts are his seniors and juniors makes clear that this patronage has not displaced his original teacher or lineage. The Celestial Amulets of Legacy control entry to the Temple of Confucius's Prime Hall and six Subordinate Halls during the struggle in which Liu Yang's separate path brings him into the Spirit Tribe. Liu Yang is not shown personally carrying or claiming one. Their relevance to his story is institutional: the Otherworldly Demonic Tribe is believed to possess a Subordinate Amulet and participates in the contest over the temple while Liu Yang is secretly being prepared as Sovereign Chen Yong's successor.
