Fairy Meng

Fairy Meng, whose personal name is Meng Yan, is the Godfiend matriarch who restores the declining Meng family and prepares Meng Chuan to succeed her. Mortally wounded before returning to Eastcalm Prefecture, she spends her remaining strength, wealth, and experience on humanity's defense and on giving her grandnephew a path beyond her own.

Biography

A Wounded Matriarch's Return

Fairy Meng returns from Calm Sea Pass with injuries that no physician can cure. Remaining out of battle might give her as many as eight more years, while fighting at full strength would shorten that span further. She accepts this prognosis without self-pity, telling her younger brother Meng Yanping that death is natural even for Godfiends. Her calm masks the pressure on the clan: without its sole active Godfiend, the Meng family will lose both its duties and its standing in Eastcalm. Rather than protect that standing through an unfavorable marriage alliance, she lets the Yun family end Meng Chuan's engagement and concentrates on whether the clan can produce a worthy successor. Meng Chuan's early breakthrough gives her hope, but she refuses to mistake potential for success. Drawing on her own failure to qualify for Archean Mountain's entrance examination after reaching Force too late, she warns the elders that he still faces Saber Force, Core Condensation, and the Life-and-Death juncture. She personally counsels him on cultivation, compares different routes to mastery, approves his decision to specialize in speed, and gives him the costly Godfiend Jade Marrow Liquid after he perfects Marrow Cleansing. These choices exhaust resources the family can scarcely replace, but they turn her final years from merely preserving the clan into preparing someone capable of protecting far more than it. Eastcalm's Last Defense

Fairy Meng remains an active protector despite knowing that another full battle may kill her. When Meng Chuan reveals the unusual power in his glabella, she tests what he can perceive and advises him to conceal an ability that neither she nor her experienced Godfiend acquaintances understand. During the demon invasion of Eastcalm, she chooses to fight at Jadesun Palace rather than preserve her remaining lifespan. Her reconnaissance domain strengthens Jadesun Palace Lord while suppressing their opponents, and her intervention also keeps Yun Wanhai alive despite the hostility that had grown between their clans. The strain proves nearly fatal. Fairy Meng uses her walking stick and domain even as her old wounds reopen, blood reaches her mouth, and her control begins to fail; the demon monarchs identify killing her as the step that would collapse Eastcalm's resistance. King Calm Sea's distant sword mark turns the battle before they can do so, but Fairy Meng emerges pale, coughing, and unable to maintain her former appearance. She does not regret spending what remains of her life. Instead, she tells Meng Chuan and Meng Dajiang that she will hold on long enough to see whether the younger generation reaches Archean Mountain. The Successor and Her Final Counsel

Fairy Meng's remaining purpose becomes explicit when Meng Chuan leaves for the entrance examination. She orders him to ignore the family's troubles and focus on cultivation, then waits in Eastcalm and prays in the ancestral hall from the twentieth of December onward. Her body is already close to collapse after the invasion, but she persists until Meng Dajiang returns with news that Meng Chuan placed first and became an inner-sect disciple. The result releases the obsession sustaining her: she is satisfied that the Meng family has a protector who can surpass her and kill more demons than she did. (Chapters 70, 74, 90–92)

Before dying that night, Fairy Meng transfers all 182,200 credits accumulated across eighty years as a Godfiend to Meng Chuan and leaves him a final letter. She also explains that companions repeatedly shielded her during her own career, linking her survival and the Meng family's revival to cooperation rather than solitary prowess. Meng Chuan continues to follow that counsel long after her death, particularly her warning to hide trump cards; later records remember her as an outer-sect disciple who became a Godfiend through battlefield credit, danger, and fortune rather than privileged inner-sect training. Appearance and personality

Before the wounds that ended her career, Fairy Meng retained the appearance of a woman in her thirties or forties. She returns to Eastcalm visibly aged: an old woman with a walking stick, later a pale face and a weakening aura. She dresses without noted ornament and lives in a plain courtyard only slightly larger than an ordinary residence. Her stillness while watching peach blossoms makes her presence difficult to sense, and she dislikes having attendants hover over her. (Chapters 5, 18, 67, and 351)

She is affectionate without indulging false hope. Fairy Meng smiles easily with family and treats Meng Yanping as the younger brother she raised, yet she gives the elders and Meng Chuan unsparing assessments of how difficult Godfiend cultivation is. Her acceptance of death is neither passivity nor despair: she repeatedly risks the little life she has left, measures success by the people and clan she protected, and dies content only after securing Meng Chuan's future. Abilities and cultivation

Fairy Meng is an Archean Mountain outer-sect Godfiend whose strength lies in reconnaissance and battlefield support. The corpus does not name her precise Godfiend body or establish a later cultivation realm. It does establish that she reached Force at twenty-two, missed the age requirement for Archean Mountain's entrance examination, accumulated credits through life-and-death battles, and eventually became a Godfiend by what she calls a mixture of danger and luck. Fairy Meng fights with a walking stick and can manifest numerous illusory palms before meeting an attack directly. Against the black-furred ape demon monarch, those layered defenses reduce the force of its pole enough for her walking stick to knock it backward, though the exchange causes her to cough blood. Her most consequential application of strength is therefore cooperative rather than a solitary finishing move: she detects threats, constrains enemies, protects wounded allies such as Yun Wanhai, and gives Jadesun Palace Lord room to fight. • Meng Chuan: Fairy Meng treats her grandnephew as both family and the successor to her unfinished duty.
