Si Yuanbai
Si Yuanbai is the sword master of Qingsui Peak who brings Li Chejing into Azure Pond Sect. His warm manner toward the young disciple conceals a defiant history with the sect’s elders: he challenges their plans to sacrifice Chejing and is later imprisoned for opposing them. (Chapters 19–22, 81, 239)
Biography
A new disciple and a sect that wants the moonlight
Yuanbai notices Chejing condensing his first Embryonic chakra in a remote village and sees the moment as a chance to recruit him. He assigns the surrounding villages and their fixed tribute to Azure Pond Sect, then accepts Chejing into Qingsui Peak. He gives the family farming techniques, seeds and the Governance of Azure Pond seal while privately judging their hidden inheritance to be modest. His generosity establishes trust even as the sect receives territory and potential talent. (Chapters 19–22)
That trust is tested when Yuanbai discovers that Chejing has secretly cultivated the rare Supreme Yin Moonlight. Rather than expose his student to the whole sect, he conceals the resource and arranges for Chejing to perfect Moon Lake Autumn Reflection before informing the elders. He recognizes how long the peak has waited for that opportunity and shares in the family’s hope for the disciple. Yet his loyalty has limits: when the sect orders Qingsui Peak south, Yuanbai confronts its ancestor and accuses the elders of sending Yuxie to obtain twelve strands of moonlight for the demon kings. He refuses to let Chejing become another sacrifice. The ancestor seals Yuanbai’s cultivation and imprisons him in a tower. (Chapters 62, 81)
Yuanbai’s subordinates later report that he has been framed and released, with the sect compensating him for his losses. The details of the framing and his subsequent career are unknown. His defiance nevertheless contributes to the rift between Qingsui Peak and the sect’s ruling elders, while his ties to the Li Family persist through his younger brother Si Yuanli. (Chapters 239, 833)
Appearance and personality
Yuanbai appears as a kindly, bearded master whose mild humor comforts Chejing as he learns the dangers of cultivation. He can be gracious to village elders and affectionate toward his disciple, but becomes fierce when he believes the sect will exploit the boy. His challenge to the ancestor carries enough conviction to cost him his freedom and cultivation. (Chapters 19–22, 62, 81)
Abilities and cultivation
Yuanbai is a sword cultivator and reaches Foundation Establishment before he recruits Chejing. He uses a shuttle, invisibility and mana spells, teaches at a peak known for swordsmanship, and provides the disciple with cultivation scrolls. His initial belief that the Li Family lacks a profound method is mistaken; once he learns of Supreme Yin Moonlight, he responds through secrecy and negotiation. The sect’s elder can overwhelm and seal him, demonstrating the limit of his authority against its senior cultivators. (Chapters 19–22, 62, 81)
Although he is a Peak Master, Chejing learns that Yuanbai has long practiced talisman-making as well as swordsmanship. He supplies common cultivation methods and explains Azure Pond’s tribute, territory and sect protections. His service as a teacher brings Chejing into the sect but does not shield them both from its political bargains. After his imprisonment, the sect reportedly releases him and makes restitution; no later realm or appointment is established. (Chapters 20–22, 81, 239)
Relationships
- Li Chejing: His seventh disciple, recruited at a breakthrough. Yuanbai teaches him at Qingsui Peak and later risks imprisonment to prevent the sect from exploiting his moonlight. (Chapters 19–22, 62, 81)
- Si Yuanli: His younger brother and another Azure Pond cultivator, who later recalls Yuanbai’s connection to the Li family. (Chapter 833)
- Azure Pond Sect’s ancestor: His former superior, who rejects his warning, defeats him and orders his imprisonment. (Chapter 81)
Items
Yuanbai gives Chejing several common cultivation scrolls, including the Azure Essence Meridian Nourishment Technique, and presents Governance of Azure Pond to Tongya as an official territory seal. He also supplies Spirit Paddy seeds and White Essence Fruit kernels to the family. These gifts accompany the recruitment agreement; none is a personal advancement of Yuanbai. (Chapter 20)
