Nephis
Nephis, commonly called Neph and known by the True Name Changing Star, is the last active heir of the Immortal Flame clan and the ruler of the Human Domain. Her Divine Aspect, Light Bringer, joins restorative and destructive soul fire to the power of longing. Across the corpus, her determination to destroy the Nightmare Spell develops from an angry survivor's private war into responsibility for humanity as a whole; in the latest phase, she temporarily leaves her collapsing Domain and crosses the Nightmare Desert with Sunny to pursue a possible counter to Asterion in the real Tomb of Ariel. (Chapters 25, 353, 2248–2262, and 2835–2859)
Biography
From isolated Legacy to Changing Star
Nephis arrived at the Awakened Academy in a police-issued tracksuit despite being the daughter of Broken Sword and Smile of Heaven, the ruined Immortal Flame clan's last heir. She had already earned a True Name in her First Nightmare and possessed exceptional martial training, but kept herself socially distant. When the winter solstice scattered the Sleepers, she chose to protect the newly blind Cassie, later answering Sunny's question about carrying such a burden with the simple declaration that she wanted to. (Chapters 25–38)
On the Forgotten Shore, Nephis, Sunny, and Cassie became an interdependent survival group. Nephis taught the others that combat required mastery of both body and mind, accepted Sunny's scouting and adaptability, and endured her Flaw to heal him after the Carapace Centurion crushed his body. Her directness and reserve initially concealed how much pain every use of her power caused. By crossing the Labyrinth, surviving the Soul Devouring Tree, and reaching the Dark City together, the three established loyalties that would shape every later conflict among them. (Chapters 39–95 and 122–138)
The Bright Castle transformed Nephis from a cohort leader into a political one. She judged Gunlaug's protection to be another form of captivity and decided to build the opposite of his regime: open hunts, shared food, and the promise of escape. That public contrast attracted the dispossessed and allowed her to inherit the First Lord's legacy, but her private objective was harsher. She intended to reach the Gateway, destroy the Spell, and eventually bring down the Sovereigns who had betrayed her father, even if doing so required an army and a civil war. (Chapters 149–167, 240–267, and 2841–2842)
Nephis defeated Gunlaug, survived the struggle for his throne, and led the Dreamer Army against the Crimson Spire. She used the mass death caused by the restored sun to strike the evolving Crimson Terror, then remained at the Gateway with Sunny after the survivors escaped. Although she could have won their duel, she held back; when he discovered the deception, she invoked his True Name and ordered him through the Gateway, accepting two years alone rather than leave him behind. Much later, she acknowledged that using the Sleepers and losing so many of them had taught her that a worthy end did not justify unworthy means. (Chapters 280–350 and 2841–2842)
Solitude, return, and the Antarctic war
Stranded in the Dream Realm, Nephis crossed the dead Forgotten Shore and the Nightmare Desert without a cohort. She eventually found a Nightmare Seed and challenged the Second Nightmare alone as a Sleeper, an unprecedented path that returned her directly as an Ascended Tyrant. The trial did not reward her merely for killing stronger enemies: it made her weak, forced her to beg, and destroyed the small community she tried to save. She later described the defeat as the event that broke her pride and made her more cautious, even though her underlying purpose survived. (Chapters 764–810, 1259, and 2842–2843)
Nephis's return reunited her with Cassie, Sunny, Effie, and Kai, while the Fire Keepers rallied around her as the living symbol of the Forgotten Shore. She refused to use Shadow Bond to control Sunny and rejected the thought that relief from her Flaw could substitute for her own strength. Because she was still unable to challenge the Sovereigns directly, she accepted adoption into Clan Valor, presenting cooperation as gratitude while intending to penetrate the system that protected her enemies and destroy it from within. (Chapters 768–810 and 842)
After Falcon Scott fell, Nephis went to East Antarctica with Valor's envoys and rejoined the cohort in the field. She fought beside Sunny against titanic abominations, purified injuries and corruption with her flames, and helped him refine the shared battle rhythm they had begun as Sleepers. Her alignment with Valor caused tension, but she treated the clan as an instrument rather than a new loyalty. Visits to the ruined Chained Isles and conversations about Hope also clarified that she identified with resistance to impossible power, not with the divine lineage she had inherited. (Chapters 1063–1163)
At the Black Skull, Nephis joined the vanguard, ordered the wounded Tyris to retreat, and fought Dire Fang shoulder to shoulder with Sunny. In the Nightmare Desert, her incorruptible soul and flames were the one reliable way to destroy the Skinwalker's vessels; even after one snapped her neck, she healed and burned it from within. With the Great creature still pursuing, Nephis and the surviving Masters chose the uncertainty of a Nightmare Seed over annihilation, entering the Third Nightmare as a divided group forced into alliance by a common threat. (Chapters 1188–1230)
Longing in the Tomb of Ariel
The Great River initially stranded Nephis on the shell of a Great Monster, where Sunny eventually found her. Their quiet voyage on the Black Turtle gave them rare time to rest, spar, and speak about the years they had spent apart. Nephis revealed the emotional defeat of her Second Nightmare, while Sunny entrusted her with knowledge of the Estuary. Later, Ananke taught them the rudiments of the sorcery of Names, giving Nephis a second way to channel fire and the world's concepts beyond the direct functions of her Aspect. (Chapters 1244–1333)
As the cohort searched the River, Nephis helped retrieve their scattered companions and learned what their corrupted future selves had become. Her passive Longing Ability made her soul immune to the Defilement, so the group's plans increasingly depended on her surviving contact with sources of Corruption that would doom anyone else. That immunity did not remove ordinary danger: Great creatures, the loops of Wind Flower, and the Defiled Saints could still wound or kill her, while the crown and ship she carried remained essential to keeping the wider cohort effective. (Chapters 1369–1503)
In Twilight and the march to Verge, Nephis recovered the decisiveness that her Second Nightmare had damaged. She fought the Dread Lord and the other Plagues, supported plans built from the Mad Prince and Torment's previous cycles, and accepted that the cohort's victory depended on actions she could not fully know. Sunny then abandoned the final advance to seek freedom in the Estuary. Nephis continued without him and destroyed the First Seeker, allowing the Nightmare to end before its Corruption could consume the challengers. (Chapters 1503–1585)
Conquering the Third Nightmare made Nephis a Saint and unlocked a Transformation with winged, radiant, and formless states. The victory also imposed a loss she could not perceive: the Vile Thieving Bird stole Sunny's fate, severing Shadow Bond and erasing him from her memory. She emerged beside a man she no longer recognized, while the gaps left by forgotten experiences followed her into later life. Thus the freedom Sunny gained preserved Nephis from slavery's unequal bond, but also erased the history through which their trust had been formed. (Chapters 1564–1589 and 2695)
The hidden alliance and the Domain War
Four years later, Nephis served Valor publicly as a Saint and commander of the Fire Keepers while secretly preparing to replace the Sovereigns. She entered Godgrave to inspect the Nameless Temple and accepted an alliance with its mysterious Lord of Shadows after testing him and his retainers in combat. She did not know that he was Sunny, yet found his battle art strangely difficult and familiar. At the same time, the forgotten Sunny approached her as Master Sunless, while Cassie quietly placed both identities in Nephis's path. (Chapters 1607–1623 and 1660–1678)
Nephis discovered that her future Domain's source element was not fire or light, but longing: any aspiration inspired by knowing her could nourish her spirit essence. Her alliance with the Lord of Shadows gave her an independent military partner, while her growing intimacy with Master Sunless allowed her to experience a private life beyond leadership. She became drawn to both men without knowing they were the same person, and each relationship pushed her to articulate what kind of ruler she wished to become rather than merely whom she wished to destroy. (Chapters 1660–1840)
When the Domain War began in Godgrave, Nephis led the Sword Army's advance while maintaining the secret conspiracy against both rulers. She survived Revel and Moonveil's ambush after Moonveil suppressed her Aspect, relying on martial skill, Memories, and Sunny rather than her usual flames. Between battles, she deepened her sorcery and worked with Sunny to reforge the Dream Blade into a bound Supreme weapon. Those experiences made loss of power, cooperation, and deliberate craft parts of her path instead of exceptions to solitary strength. (Chapters 1841–1908 and 2004–2061)
The conspiracy culminated when Effie, Kai, and Jet seized the Great Citadels and weakened the old Domains. Nephis and Sunny then challenged Anvil and Ki Song directly. Repeatedly destroyed and restored inside the Sun God's fallen realm, Nephis forged her soul and Will together until her nascent Domain ignited and made her Supreme. She burned through Ki Song's vessel while Sunny killed Anvil, then cooperated in staging the Lord of Shadows' betrayal and death so that humanity would accept one visible ruler instead of another divided throne. (Chapters 2175–2260)
Sovereignty and the war against Asterion
As humanity's new hegemon, Nephis absorbed the government and surviving Great Clans into one Domain, appointed stewards, and used the Night Garden to connect previously isolated territories. She also revealed that the waking world was being consumed and accelerated humanity's migration rather than preserve the Sovereigns' secrecy. The scale of rulership exposed a new burden: billions of desires were always present in her consciousness. Privately, Sunny survived his staged death, and the two Supremes became lovers who shared the Ivory Tower while he protected their realm from the shadows. (Chapters 2261–2277)
Nephis continued seeking power beyond Supremacy instead of treating the throne as an endpoint. She studied natural Ascension, the Flame of Desire, and sorcery based on Passion, campaigned against Cursed beings, and used the Longing Domain to heal distant subjects such as Jet. When the Night Garden expedition became trapped in the Eternal City, she opened a Dream Gate between distant points in the Dream Realm, brought the Ivory Island as reinforcements, and helped contain the Great Titan Flesh of Kanakht. These victories also confirmed that even a Supreme Titan could be checked by Cursed powers, mental assault, or an enemy whose regeneration outlasted her destruction. (Chapters 2296–2442 and 2677–2715)
Asterion's return attacked Nephis through ideas rather than open force. His knowledge spread like a plague, transferring people's devotion from Longing to Hunger and eroding her Domain. When he appeared in Bastion, he used its population as a shield; Nephis threatened him but refused to annihilate her own city merely to reach him. He then publicized the compromises behind the Domain War, turning her willingness to risk lives against the image of Changing Star. Nephis helped identify hidden thralls through gaps in her healing network, while Cassie attempted memory removal; Nephis herself repeatedly burned and healed an enthralled Saint until pain overwhelmed Asterion's influence. Neither method scaled fast enough to save humanity. (Chapters 2733–2794 and 2843)
After Mordret began destroying Asterion's human power base, Cassie's old message identified oblivion and the Tomb of Ariel as a possible alternative. Nephis agreed to follow Sunny without demanding the explanation that his stolen fate prevented her from retaining. They delegated what authority they could, left the collapsing Human Domain behind, and took the refitted Chain Breaker through the Forgotten Shore into the Nightmare Desert. Sunny considers several possible solutions within the Tomb—using the Vile Thieving Bird against Asterion's fate, reclaiming his own fate and access to Nightmares, or exploiting the Great River's time—but none is yet confirmed as Cassie's intended answer. In Nephis's latest direct scene, she remains alive in the desert and is still advancing toward the real Tomb. (Chapters 2835–2859)
Appearance and personality
Nephis is tall, slender, and strikingly beautiful, with flawless ivory skin, silver-white hair, and calm grey eyes that shine with white fire when she invokes her power. Her composure and Legacy posture make her seem older and more remote than her years. Ascension and Transcendence perfect her body further; as a Saint, she can manifest broad white wings, become a brilliant spirit whose skin resembles incandescent light, or dissolve into a vast mass of flame. (Chapters 25–26, 35, 764, and 1588)
Her usual reserve is partly discipline and partly social inexperience. Nephis speaks plainly, misses ordinary jokes or conventions, and often appears aloof even when she cares deeply. In battle and command she is analytical, economical, and almost unnervingly calm. In private, particularly with Sunny and the cohort, she can be competitive, awkward, curious, and quietly playful. The difference becomes more visible after she allows herself a life beyond vengeance and begins sharing the Ivory Tower with Sunny. (Chapters 25–38, 1260, 1660–1678, and 2276–2277)
Nephis's defining trait is perseverance rather than fearlessness. Anger and conviction let her keep moving after her clan's destruction, but failure changes how she understands strength: the Forgotten Shore teaches her that means matter, the Second Nightmare breaks her certainty, and the Tomb restores it through reliance on others. As Queen, she remains capable of ruthless calculation, yet measures victory by whether humanity survives with its agency intact. Her refusal to destroy Bastion to reach Asterion and her willingness to leave the throne in search of another solution follow that mature standard. (Chapters 1259, 1677–1678, 2261–2266, 2754–2757, and 2841–2842)
Abilities and Aspect
Nephis is a Supreme Titan with the Divine Aspect Light Bringer. Its powers combine soul fire, command of flame, immunity to Corruption, and the source element of longing; her Dreamspawn nature, Sun God lineage, sorcery of Names, swordsmanship, and Supreme Will extend that foundation. The powers below are explicitly established, although the full limits of a Divine Aspect and the requirements of future Apotheosis remain unknown. (Chapters 353, 1124, 1678, 2248, and 2713)
Divine nature, lineage, and soul cores
Light Bringer allows up to seven soul cores. Nephis's innate Halfbreed Ability lets her absorb part of the soul essence of humans and of Nightmare Creatures destroyed by her flames, which enabled her to grow from a Dormant Demon after the Forgotten Shore to an Ascended Tyrant in Antarctica and ultimately a Supreme Titan. Multiple cores increase her essence reserves and Class, but their formation still requires accumulated essence, and severe acts of destruction and restoration can damage or rebuild them. (Chapters 353, 1124, 2248, and 2713)
Her attributes establish several overlapping origins. Dreamspawn means that, as the child of a Hollow mother, her soul belonged to both the waking world and Dream Realm before she was born. Nephilim describes a union of divine and profane traits, Flame of Divinity marks her divine affinity, and The Fire is the inherited lineage of Sun God. These descriptions establish her dual nature and lineage but do not fully explain the metaphysical relationship between them. (Chapters 353, 1124, 1387, and 2757)
Soul Flame
Soul Flame is Nephis's Dormant Ability and the central expression of Light Bringer. Its white fire can restore or destroy, augment her body and soul, empower weapons and Memories, heal catastrophic injuries, and burn hostile flesh or spirits. She first demonstrated it by reconstructing Sunny's shattered bones and organs; later, she burned a Skinwalker vessel from within, healed herself through a broken neck, and channeled immense rays through the Blessing. The same flame can purge lingering corruption or mental contamination when the target remains reachable. (Chapters 53, 240, 1124, 1219, 1396, 2241, and 2442)
The Ability becomes broader with Rank and Domain. As a Master, Nephis could augment the soul as well as the body; as a Supreme, she can restore selected subjects at great distance through their connection to Longing. That support is not automatic or infinite: she must pay attention to the recipient, spend essence, and retain a functioning Domain connection. Cassie's wounds briefly fail to receive the distant blessing after Asterion attacks her, but the scene does not establish exactly how he blocked it; more broadly, subjects transferred from Longing to Hunger no longer sustain the same connection. (Chapters 1124, 2248, 2696, 2733, and 2752)
Flame Manipulation and Transformation
Flame Manipulation, her Awakened Ability, lets Nephis bend fire to her will whether or not she created it. She shapes flame into weapons, barriers, explosions, and concentrated incinerating rays; if no flame exists, she can produce it herself while paying the pain imposed by her Flaw. Water, darkness, and enemies with regeneration do not nullify the power, but they can complicate its application, while Aspect suppression such as Moonveil's can remove access altogether and force Nephis to rely on steel and technique. (Chapters 1124, 1887–1900, 2241, and 2712–2714)
Her Transcendent Transformation has at least three demonstrated states: a mostly human form with white wings, a radiant spirit of immaculate light, and a vast, formless mass of unleashed flame. The winged and spirit forms grant flight, speed, and direct integration between body and fire, while the formless state allows her flame to assume broader shapes. The Transformation does not make her untouchable. Supreme and Cursed enemies can contaminate, disperse, or repeatedly destroy the radiant body, requiring her to heal and reform it at tremendous cost. (Chapters 1588, 1900, 2241–2248, and 2695)
Longing and the Supreme Domain
Longing began as an unusual passive Ascended Ability whose stated effect was to make Nephis's soul incorruptible. It protects her from the Defilement itself rather than every soul or mental attack: the cohort depends on that immunity in the Tomb of Ariel, but ordinary wounds, Aspect suppression, delusions, and coercive ideas can still affect her. Its immunity is sufficiently direct that Sunny temporarily copied it to approach forbidden knowledge without immediately becoming Corrupted. (Chapters 1124, 1259, 1387, 1447, 1503, and 1568)
After Transcendence, Longing revealed itself as Nephis's source element. Any person inspired by her to yearn for something can generate spirit essence for her; the desire need not be directed at Nephis herself. At Supremacy, these connections became the Longing Domain, encompassing people and the Great Citadels under her rule, feeding her higher-quality essence and allowing remote blessings. Its scale is also a burden: she constantly feels billions of desires, must resist drowning in them, and loses both authority and power when Asterion persuades or enthralls those people into his Hunger Domain. (Chapters 1677–1678, 2248, 2262–2266, 2696, and 2733–2863)
Sorcery of Names and Supreme Will
Ananke introduced Nephis to the sorcery of Names in the Third Nightmare. Rather than relying on a fixed Spell enchantment, a Verse invokes a True Name and channels the concept it represents through essence and Will. Nephis later develops this practice through the Name of Passion, using her own intense emotions as fuel, and demonstrably invokes Fire, Light, and Destruction for different effects. She can illuminate hundreds of kilometers around the Chain Breaker or create firestorms capable of contesting titanic enemies. The corpus does not give a complete catalog of Names she knows. (Chapters 1291–1308, 2436–2440, 2695, and 2841)
As a Supreme, Nephis can impose her Will directly on the world, strengthening attacks, cutting or burning phenomena beyond ordinary matter, and resisting the authority of other high-rank beings. Passion strengthens that Will but can create dangerous interactions: when the Madness of Kanakht drew strength from obsession, invoking Passion empowered the enemy as well. Large workings also consume immense essence, expose her to her Flaw, and cannot guarantee a kill against Cursed beings whose concepts or regeneration counter simple destruction. (Chapters 2241–2248, 2436–2440, 2695, and 2712–2714)
Dreamspawn passage and Dream Gates
Nephis's Dreamspawn attribute places her on the boundary of nightmare and reality. After Supremacy, her Dream Gates can allow passage in both directions rather than only from the waking world into the Dream Realm, which lets her move a Great Citadel to Earth. Sunny considers her Dreamspawn nature the likely reason for this difference, but the precise mechanism is not confirmed. When the Night Garden belongs to her Domain, its own Component also lets her connect two points within the Dream Realm, an application she uses to extract the ship and bring the Ivory Island into the Eternal City. These feats are tied to Citadels, Domain reach, and heavy expenditure rather than unrestricted personal teleportation. (Chapters 353, 2276, and 2677)
Swordsmanship and battle art
Nephis was trained as a Legacy before entering the Spell and already understood the bodily and mental foundations of combat at the Academy. She reads intent, identifies structural weaknesses in styles, and incorporates useful principles without merely copying surface movements. Years of sparring with Sunny, solitary travel, and war produced a Transcendent battle art whose essence technique integrates her body, soul flame, weapons, and Will. Even deprived of her Aspect, she remains capable of fighting elite opponents through technique and tactical adaptation. (Chapters 26–43, 140, 787, 1619, 1768, and 1887–1900)
Her weapons progress with her Rank. The original Dream Blade served from the First Nightmare through her solitary journey, while later Valor weapons supplied greater raw power. Sunny eventually reforged the Dream Blade into the Blessing, a bound Supreme sword designed around Nephis's soul and flame rather than a replaceable Memory. The weapon channels her fire especially well, but it remains an instrument: her core skill and Aspect, not the blade alone, let her contend with Sovereigns. (Chapters 1879, 2044–2061, 2235, and 2241)
Pristine Soul
Nephis's Flaw, Pristine Soul, requires her to suffer whenever she actively uses her power. Manifesting and controlling her fire feels like being burned alive; extensive healing, augmentation, Transformation, or sorcery can therefore subject her to continuous, overwhelming agony. Endurance does not remove the cost. Pain can exhaust, disorient, or emotionally hollow her, and mental attacks become more dangerous when they compound it. Nephis learns to use pain as focus and as the furnace for her Will, but the Flaw remains active even at Supremacy. (Chapters 53, 353, 1124, 2241–2248, and 2695)
Power progression
| Stage / Realm / Ability | Chapter(s) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dormant Sleeper / Divine Aspect — Light Bringer | 53 | Her white Soul Flame first demonstrates the Divine Aspect gained in the First Nightmare; every active use inflicts her Flaw's burning agony. |
| Dormant Monster / two soul cores | Before Chapter 353; revealed Chapter 353 | The runes establish that she had already possessed two cores during the battle with Gunlaug, before forming her third. |
| Dormant Demon / three soul cores | 353 | The end of the Forgotten Shore confirms her multi-core Divine progression and the reserves behind her exceptional Sleeper strength. |
| Dormant Devil / four soul cores | 434 | While stranded in the Dream Realm after the Forgotten Shore, she forms her fourth core and advances one Class. |
| Dormant Tyrant / five soul cores | 693 | Continued survival and killing in the Dream Realm produces a fifth core while she remains Dormant. |
| Ascended Tyrant | 774 | Conquering a Second Nightmare alone as a Sleeper returns Nephis directly as a Master with five cores and no prior practice controlling essence. |
| Ascended Terror / six soul cores | Before Chapter 1254; revealed Chapter 1254 | Soul shards from the Battle of the Black Skull and Nightmare Desert complete her sixth core before the Third Nightmare. |
| Ascended Titan / destroyed core restored and seventh core formed | 1518 | Her Terror Core destroys itself in an attack, but absorbed essence rebuilds it and forms the seventh core, advancing her to Titan. |
| Transcendent Titan / radiant Transformation | 1588 | Completing the Third Nightmare advances her to Saint while preserving all seven cores and unlocks her Transcendent Transformation. |
| Supreme Titan / Longing Domain | 2248 | Her nascent Domain ignites during the battle with Ki Song, naturally advancing her to Supreme while she remains a seven-core Titan. |
Relationships
- Sunny: Nephis and Sunny begin as wary partners, become rival students and commanders, and are bound when she uses his True Name to save him at the Crimson Spire. She never uses Shadow Bond to exploit him, but its inequality poisons their chance at intimacy until his fate is stolen and both the bond and her memories of him vanish. They meet again through his separate identities, become lovers during the Domain War, attain Supremacy together, and now trust each other enough to travel toward the Tomb of Ariel without Nephis retaining the full plan. (Chapters 35–95, 240–353, 689–810, 1244–1589, 1660–2277, and 2835–2859)
- Cassie: Nephis saves Cassie at the beginning of the Forgotten Shore and refuses to treat her blindness as a reason for abandonment. Cassie later betrays Sunny's True Name to Nephis because she believes it will save her, creating a wound among all three friends. Over time she becomes Nephis's seer, strategist, and principal architect of the conspiracy against the Sovereigns. Nephis continues to trust her even when Cassie's plans require secrecy, memory loss, or actions whose purpose only becomes clear years later. (Chapters 35–38, 44–95, 335–350, 1556–1589, 1660–2260, and 2835–2838)
- Effie and Kai: Both follow Nephis on the Forgotten Shore, survive the Spire because of her campaign, and later become independent government commanders rather than retainers. They reunite with her after her two-year isolation, enter the Third Nightmare beside her, and ultimately seize Bastion and Ravenheart as part of her rebellion. As Saints and stewards, they turn the charismatic army Nephis once improvised into durable institutions of the Human Domain. (Chapters 149–350, 768–810, 1063–1230, 1417–1589, and 2227–2262)
- Broken Sword and Smile of Heaven: Nephis inherits her father's mission, her mother's divine lineage, and the wreckage left by their fall. Broken Sword's former companions kill him after he approaches Supremacy, while Smile of Heaven becomes Hollow but remains alive. Vengeance begins Nephis's war against the Sovereigns, yet ruling humanity forces her to move beyond restoring family honor; she eventually keeps her mother in the Ivory Tower even while the rest of the Domain collapses. (Chapters 38, 160–167, 368, 796–810, 2241, and 2796–2798)
- Anvil: Anvil helps destroy Immortal Flame, then adopts Nephis into Valor when she becomes too powerful and popular to eliminate easily. Nephis accepts his protection as camouflage, fights for his clan while building a rebellion inside it, and finally challenges him as a Saint. Her conspiracy weakens his Domain, while Sunny deals the final blow; Nephis's triumph is consequently not a simple duel of heirs, but the result of years spent turning Anvil's own structures against him. (Chapters 796–842, 1063–1230, 1607–2233, and 2235–2260)
- Morgan: Valor presents Morgan as Nephis's adopted sister and peer. Morgan respects her ability but remains devoted to Anvil for most of the war, placing the two women on the same battlefield without the same final purpose. Nephis's conspiracy eventually removes Morgan from the decisive confrontation rather than killing her, and Morgan later helps stabilize the remnants of Valor before disappearing from public rule. (Chapters 802–842, 1097–1230, 1841–2233, and 2261–2263)
- Mordret: Nephis treats Mordret as a dangerous temporary ally in the Third Nightmare and later benefits from his war against Anvil. Their interests diverge after Supremacy: Mordret builds a Domain of himself and ultimately tries to destroy humanity so that Asterion cannot consume it. His assault forces Nephis and Sunny to abandon gradual preparations and enter the Tomb immediately, leaving him at war with the Domain she is trying to save. (Chapters 1215–1589, 1985–2260, 2555–2560, 2839, and 2874–2877)
- Asterion: Asterion was once her father's comrade and an apparent childhood protector, but participated in Broken Sword's death and later reduced Nephis to one of three surviving Dreamspawns in his plans. His Hunger Domain spreads through knowledge, steals the desires that sustain Longing, and uses Nephis's own people as hostages. She cannot defeat him without devastating humanity, so her current journey seeks a way to erase the idea on which his existence depends or obtain enough power to overcome him safely. (Chapters 368, 1528, 2266–2280, 2733–2840)
Items
- Dream Blade: Nephis's first sword Memory, received in her First Nightmare and carried through the Forgotten Shore, Nightmare Desert, Underworld, and Second Nightmare. Although it became too weak for her Rank, she preserved it for its history. Sunny later used its physical and spiritual pattern as the foundation of the Blessing, reforging a faithful early weapon into a bound Supreme sword. (Chapters 353, 1879, and 2044–2061)
- Crown of Dawn: The evolved form of the Dawn Shard and the recovered legacy of the First Lord. It enhances nearby Memories, allowing Nephis to strengthen a cohort or army's equipment rather than only her own. She uses it as both a battlefield force multiplier and a public symbol from the Dark City through the Domain War, though suppression of her forces can still leave the enhanced Memories insufficient. (Chapters 255–287, 1343, 1843, and 1892)
- Chain Breaker: The cohort's ancient flying ship, named for Noctis's rebellion against divine chains. Nephis travels aboard it through the Great River and later campaigns, but it remains a shared cohort vessel rather than her personal possession. A team of artisans refits and reinforces it for the expedition to the real Tomb of Ariel, while Sunny and Cassie add a defensive array; Nephis pilots its latest voyage along her former solitary path across the Forgotten Shore and Nightmare Desert. (Chapters 1163, 1369–1550, 2677–2717, and 2839–2859)
- Blessing: A bound Supreme sword forged by Sunny from the Dream Blade and linked directly to Nephis's soul. Its Flame Conduit property accepts and intensifies her soul fire, making it the principal weapon she uses against the old Sovereigns and later Cursed beings. It is not a conventional Spell Memory and has no separate generated item page in the supplied manifest. (Chapters 2044–2061, 2235–2255, and 2695)
