Tyris

Tyris, known by her True Name Sky Tide, is the matriarch of the White Feather clan and a Transcendent whose command of wind, clouds, and lightning makes her a decisive protector of human forces. Her severe reserve conceals a strong sense of responsibility: she repeatedly accepts political punishment, mortal danger, and exhausting battlefield duties to shield people under her care.

Biography

Guardian of the Chained Isles

As ruler of the Sanctuary, Tyris monitored the failing heavenly chains and the migrations that would follow an island's fall, treating the safety of the whole region as her responsibility. She was wary of Valor's secrets around Reckoning Island, quietly told Sunny to deny having visited it, and later cautioned his cohort about the Night Temple without exposing what she knew. Her restrained hospitality—including inviting young Awakened to her table—therefore coexisted with the vigilance of a frontier ruler who understood that local danger and Great Clan politics were intertwined. When Cormac tried to seize Sunny and Cassie after the Night Temple's destruction, Tyris placed herself between them and him. She rejected his claim that Valor's will overrode her authority, admitted that she regretted tolerating his earlier scheme, and chose to fight rather than surrender people from her Citadel. She killed Cormac, sent the survivors toward their Second Nightmare, and undertook to manage both the Great Clan's retaliation and the destabilization of the Chained Isles. The Antarctic Evacuation

White Feather's reassignment brought Tyris to Antarctica in support of the civilian evacuation. Rather than treat the duty as mere exile, she joined the Irregulars against the Remnant of the Jade Queen, took personal responsibility for the Corrupted Tyrant, and adapted when it unexpectedly took flight. Her winds dispersed its lethal ash, while her transformed body, lightning, talons, and saber wore it down before she eradicated the surviving hive. The victory cleared the army's route, though Tyris was wounded and Sunny happened to deal the final blow to the already-failing Tyrant. (Chapters 857–868)

At Falcon Scott, Tyris assumed responsibility for containing the Winter Beast because her Aspect directly countered the Corrupted Titan's power, even though she could not kill it. After recovering, Tyris transported Valor's vanguard to East Antarctica and returned to the field. Against a winged Titan, she worked with Wake of Ruin, diverting deathly miasma from the human formation, tearing away one of the creature's necks, and helping bring it down; once freed, she redirected her power against the wider horde. Her contribution protected the army's formation and made her one of the Saints whose intervention turned a desperate engagement into a human victory. (Chapters 1098–1119)

The war between Valor and Song then made Tyris a priority target. At the Black Skull, she took the sky and broke through winged thralls until Beastmaster concentrated a ruinous mental assault on her, forcing her out of her Transformation and leaving her surrounded. Shield of the Sword Army

In Godgrave, Tyris's control of the Cloudveil made her indispensable to the Sword Army. She committed to holding the clouds during the Ivory Island's advance and later protected the expedition force from the annihilating sky for more than a week. Once her essence was exhausted, the Cloudveil breached twice before she recovered, killing soldiers and exposing the terrible dependency her duty created. Although tired, she continued to take part in command discussions and questioned entrusting a war party to the unfamiliar Lord of Shadows, placing the expedition's survival above easy deference. During the siege of the Greater Crossing, Tyris and White Feather led the aerial defense of the Ivory Island. Appearance and personality

Tyris is tall and slender, with a perfectly straight posture, long pale-gold hair, a cold and strikingly beautiful face, and piercing amber eyes with narrow vertical pupils. Her usual light steel armor bears stylized white feathers on its pauldrons and greaves, and she later wears a white cloak embroidered with silver thread. She normally speaks with austere brevity and maintains an aloof, severe expression even under pressure. Sky Tide commands wind and storm clouds on a strategic scale. She disperses airborne poison, redirects lethal miasma into enemy hordes, and maintains or reshapes cloud cover to protect armies from supernatural environmental threats. This affinity let her contain the Winter Beast when other Saints could not and later keep Godgrave's annihilating sunlight behind the Cloudveil. Her protection is neither limitless nor permanent: she could only contain the Winter Beast, not slay it, and maintaining the Cloudveil for over a week exhausted her essence enough that the sky breached before she recovered. Outside her Transformation, Tyris possesses the physical might and martial skill of a Saint.
