Quinn Talen

Quinn Talen is the central protagonist of My Vampire System, an orphan whose inherited Vampire System turns his struggle against an unequal human society into a conflict over the futures of humans, vampires, celestials, and demons. He grows from a persecuted military-academy student into the founder of the Cursed faction, the king who unites vampires with humanity against the Dalki, and ultimately the last vampire after Immortui's death removes vampirism from every other member of the species.

Biography

Awakening and Military Academy

Quinn begins as a sixteen-year-old orphan living on government support in a society where wealth controls access to powerful abilities. Bullied for his recorded level-one status and bitter about the institutions that failed him, he repeatedly tries to open the indestructible black book left by his dead parents. A drop of his blood finally activates it, replacing the book with a game-like system just before he is conscripted into military school. The system initially offers statistics, quests, and incremental growth rather than an immediately understood ability, so Quinn enters the academy determined to conceal it until he can protect himself from the military and private powers that would exploit a unique ability. (Chapters 1–3)

The secrecy soon becomes a survival problem rather than a tactical advantage. Sunlight halves Quinn's statistics, levelling changes him into a halfling, and the resulting hunger drives him to bite Layla after he tries and fails to resist feeding. He is horrified by his loss of control and begins investigating the rules of his condition while relying on Layla, Vorden, and eventually Peter to keep it hidden. After killing Ian during a portal expedition, Quinn reaches level ten and becomes a full vampire; the event forces him to accept that the system is not merely imitating vampirism and that survival can make him cross moral lines he once considered unthinkable. (Chapters 3, 18–20, and 80–86)

Quinn nevertheless keeps using his new power to oppose the hierarchy that shaped him. He learns the shadow ability from a book his system can absorb, combines it with vampire martial arts, and intervenes when weaker students are abused, first through his anonymous Blood Evolver identity and later as the Night Demon. His choices are not without consequences: blood skills cost health, shadow skills consume limited MC cells, sunlight can cripple him, and protecting his identity repeatedly places his friends at risk. When Peter is mortally wounded, Quinn chooses the blood ritual despite Peter's earlier betrayal, creating a vampire ghoul and the beginning of the Cursed family because saving a life matters more to him in that moment than certainty about Peter's loyalty. (Chapters 50, 86–91, 123, 130–141, and 375)

The academy's portal missions widen Quinn's conflict from school oppression to the returning Dalki threat and the hidden vampire world. He protects his group with Shadow Void during their first Dalki encounter, saves Fex after the latter becomes a Bloodsucker, and accepts Fex's offer to become blood brothers. These decisions establish Quinn's recurring idea of family as a bond created through mutual risk rather than ancestry. By the end of the academy phase, he has learned to distrust institutions without treating every person inside them as an enemy, and his secret group has become the nucleus of a community he is willing to kill for but also increasingly responsible for restraining. (Chapters 127–141, 217–220, 245–270, and 277–300)

Vampire World and the Cursed Faction

Fex's arrest forces Quinn to act openly against vampire law. Although the system warns that exposing himself as the successor to the vacant tenth seat will make him a target, Quinn enters the vampire settlement to prevent Fex's execution and Peter's indefinite imprisonment. He learns that his shadow marks him as a Punisher and that the tenth family has endured generations without an active leader. Rather than leave his friends to a legal order that has already condemned them, he infiltrates the settlement, accepts the authority attached to the tenth castle, and works with Peter, Logan, Vorden, Layla, and sympathetic vampires to break Fex out. (Chapters 333–357, 400–442)

The rescue succeeds because Quinn's relationships have become reciprocal. Fex had refused to identify Quinn even under threat of death; Peter recognizes Quinn's shadow when the latter intervenes against a vampire leader; and Arthur's return overwhelms the leaders who would otherwise destroy Quinn's group. Arthur's aid preserves them, but it also exposes Quinn to the Punisher legacy and the political consequences of inheriting the shadow. Quinn leaves knowing he cannot depend forever on a stronger predecessor, and his return to the tenth castle formally links a still-underpowered vampire noble to people who see the restored leader as their chance to escape inherited disgrace. (Chapters 357, 425–442, and 482–497)

Back among humans, Quinn's attempt to find safety becomes the Cursed faction. He reveals enough of his identity to secure allies, turns or accepts people rejected by the established powers, and increasingly delegates logistics and strategy to Sam while retaining responsibility for the group's direction. The faction's purpose reflects Quinn's own history: its members include people bullied, discarded, or treated as expendable, and Quinn insists that joining him is not a new form of servitude. His elevation to the world leaders' table is therefore both a victory and a burden; he speaks against retaliation by defeated groups, defends Paul as a willing ally rather than a captive, and warns the other leaders that the Cursed faction will not submit to the same abuse its members escaped. (Chapters 544–610, 646–682, 711–760)

Leadership also changes the scale of Quinn's failures. The Cursed faction ship becomes a mobile home and military asset, but Quinn cannot personally protect everyone on it, and Sam, Paul, Logan, and the other leaders repeatedly make life-changing decisions in his absence. Quinn accepts their competence without becoming indifferent to casualties, and he starts distributing power and equipment rather than concentrating every advantage in himself. By Chapter 800, the boy who once viewed strength chiefly as protection from individual bullies is responsible for a faction, multiple planets, and a growing vampire bloodline whose actions can create new subclasses even when he is elsewhere. (Chapters 670–742, 760–800)

Dalki War and Vampire Kingship

The Dalki war makes Quinn's human and vampire obligations impossible to separate. As tenth leader, he investigates the vampires' role in the Dalki's creation and discovers that their refusal to intervene rests partly on outdated assumptions about Dalki strength. He challenges that isolation while concealing Arthur's hostile intentions long enough to avoid creating another immediate war. When the vampire settlement is attacked from within, Quinn fights family leaders, uses the Punisher's shadow against enemies who vastly outclassed his academy self, and defeats Cindy's bid for power. The settlement subsequently treats him as the hero who succeeded where its king failed, giving political weight to the leadership he had previously carried mostly in name. (Chapters 836, 874–881, and 928–935)

Quinn does not respond to that recognition by abandoning his human commitments. He returns to Earth as a faction leader, briefly teaches at the academy, and continues rescuing people during attacks while trying to make students stronger without revealing every secret he carries. A demon-tier expedition separates him from the faction and makes him a student again: Chris teaches him the second stage of Qi, and Quinn learns to coat his body, weapons, and eventually shadow with external life energy. The isolation sharpens both his independence and his trust in the others; he chooses to train because the war requires more than his existing powers, while believing Sam and Sil will not recklessly sacrifice the faction searching for him. (Chapters 965–1028, 1057–1061, and 1144–1177)

Once reunited with his allies, Quinn turns the new control into an offensive strategy. He infiltrates Dalki motherships, directs scattered fighters rather than treating them as spectators, and uses the shadow to move allies and create openings inside vessels that conventional forces cannot breach. Losses during the operation trouble him not only because people die for his plan, but because he recognizes a growing ability to focus on the objective before mourning them. He promises support for the dead fighters' families, continues the assault, and tests powerful equipment cautiously enough to distinguish control from domination. His decision to give a demon-tier sword to Leo rather than keep every top weapon also shows a leader trying to build a resilient force rather than a cult of personal strength. (Chapters 1177–1211 and 1263–1264)

The title of king becomes real only after further catastrophe. Following the deaths of Bryce, Arthur, Paul, and others, Quinn initially doubts that an outsider who relies heavily on Sam can govern the vampire settlement. He accepts after Fex and Vincent argue that refusing the office would not remove his practical responsibility, but he makes his terms public: vampires must acknowledge his human past, treat humans as equals, and join the war against the Dalki. The acceptance marks a change from reluctant figurehead to conditional ruler; Quinn is willing to carry authority, but only if it can break the separation that allowed both societies to ignore each other's suffering. (Chapters 1371–1375)

Celestial Conflict and the Millennial Return

Quinn uses the kingship to bring vampire forces into the human war, publicly revealing allies whom the wider world knows only as “V.” He orders the leaders to rescue humans, demonstrates Absolute Blood Control against Dalki forces, and later defeats Graham by drawing on power that exceeds what his newly evolved body can safely contain. Victory ends the immediate war but leaves him unconscious and damaged beyond ordinary recovery. His companions place him in eternal slumber believing it may last ten years; instead, he awakens roughly a millennium later to a civilization that venerates “Hero Quinn” while preserving only a simplified account of what he and the Cursed faction endured. (Chapters 1390–1408, 1552–1573, and 1579)

The return strips Quinn of familiar certainties. Most of his old companions are dead, political arrangements have changed, and the surviving world treats his name as history or religion. His evolution into a Celestial Vampire restarts the visible system at a new level, grants the Ruler of Blood title, and connects strength to followers who offer blood while thinking of him. Quinn uses the alias BB in celestial space because he distrusts the beings overseeing it, and he searches for the surviving members of his chosen family rather than accepting worship as an end in itself. His reunion with Peter, Fex, Logan, and others is therefore mixed with anger at the institutions and altered memories that separated them. (Chapters 1573, 1587–1614, and 1628–1700)

Quinn's celestial status gives him access to a wider conflict but not allegiance to the celestials. He marks trusted followers only after explaining that their lives may become tied to his, investigates the Red Heart and celestial weapons, and resists missions that treat ordinary lives as expendable. When his interests align with celestial instructions, he still treats cooperation as conditional. His control of blood, shadow, Qi, and celestial energy grows through experimentation—often combining systems that their original teachers treated separately—yet every upgrade creates another group that wants to direct or contain him. (Chapters 1588, 1614, 1709–1758, and 1801–1875)

The conflict over Erin crystallizes Quinn's loyalties. Bliss argues that Erin may be necessary against Immortui, but Quinn refuses to excuse the deaths of people he loves for a distant calculation about humanity's future. He confronts Erin after she threatens Peter, adapts shadow and Qi to suppress dhampir energy, and defeats her with weapons Alex helped create. Quinn then turns the world's attention into celestial power to close Immortui's portal, asking people to contribute blood rather than passively wait for rescue. The success confirms that his public identity can mobilize immense power, but it also makes him too conspicuous for the celestial order and leads Mundus to remove him from his family. (Chapters 1875, 1937, 1967–1985)

Reawakened World and the Demon War

After escaping confinement and giving up his celestial standing for god-slayer power, Quinn follows his shadow link to Minny. Finding her alone makes the costs of his repeated disappearances personal: he apologizes, learns that Layla hid Minny because the vampire settlement had become dangerous, and chooses to search for Layla before pursuing larger cosmic questions. Once reunited, Quinn and Layla try to create the ordinary family life both had repeatedly been denied. Under the name Quinn Balen, he works as an unremarkable guard, helps raise Minny, and waits for the birth of Galen; this quiet period reveals that peace, not battle or kingship, is the life he actually wants. (Chapters 1993–2012)

That peace collapses when vampire politics again threaten his family. Quinn suppresses his identity until Grenlet uses Layla and Minny to coerce him, at which point fear for them overwhelms restraint and he exposes power capable of immobilizing an Original through aura alone. He then joins the struggle against Jim Eno, Jack Truedream, and the altered histories that have turned former allies against one another. Even when victory restores the world's memories, it cannot restore everyone Quinn has lost: Peter is left grievously injured, old factions are devastated, and Mundus returns as soon as Quinn's immediate enemy falls. Quinn increasingly understands that surviving one war simply makes him the focus of the next. (Chapters 2057–2105, 2137–2153, and 2277–2305)

Preparing for Immortui requires Quinn to confront the most dangerous part of his own lineage. His demon form can defeat a god slayer, but its killing impulse overwhelms conscious control, leaves him helpless for the equivalent of months of recovery, and is unsafe around anyone he wishes to protect. Later exposure to a demon king's energy produces a fully materialized vampire-demon form, proving the power can evolve while making its relationship to Immortui more explicit. During the final campaign Quinn therefore pursues demon blood and control rather than treating transformation as a cost-free trump card, and he relies on Sil, Peter, the champions, and his other allies to buy the time he cannot create alone. (Chapters 2185–2186, 2355, and 2386–2422)

Immortui attacks Quinn psychologically as well as physically. A constructed inner ordeal forces him to experience the pain of people who died because of him, including those he failed and those he killed, bringing old doubts about Cia, Bryce, and countless unnamed victims back without allowing him to dismiss them as necessary casualties. The dead members of the Cursed faction and Arthur eventually stand beside him, not to erase his guilt but to insist that his future actions still matter. Quinn emerges committed to the same principle that has driven him since the academy: he will protect the people he loves even when neither celestials nor demons offer a morally clean side. (Chapters 2471–2476 and 2495–2499)

In the last confrontation, Quinn combines evolved blood control, shadow, Qi, the God Slayer Armour, and the techniques he learned from allies to overcome Immortui's colourless power. Killing Immortui removes the source of vampirism from the world: every other vampire and subclass becomes human, while Quinn remains the last vampire. He returns to Layla, Minny, and Galen, accepts the change as a new beginning, and spends the following years with them. When Layla's restored mortality begins to catch up with her, Quinn refuses to turn her again; afraid that grief would make him violate that decision, he says farewell and voluntarily enters eternal slumber. The unresolved system quest concerning the Talen family remains active, so the corpus closes on rest rather than a confirmed final death. (Chapters 2509–2545)

Appearance and personality

At sixteen, Quinn has slightly curly black hair, poor eyesight, and heavily taped glasses that sit crookedly on his face. The system repairs his sight after the black book activates, removing his need for the glasses. His later vampire body is repeatedly recognized by its youthful appearance, red-glowing eyes when vampire powers are active, sharpened fangs, and a face that remains unchanged across his thousand-year sleep. His transformations can depart radically from that baseline: the late vampire-demon form has chalk-white skin, red eyes, blood-like wings, and living shadow across his body. (Chapters 1–2, 18, 1573, and 2185–2186)

Quinn is confrontational rather than submissive, but his anger is usually rooted in remembered helplessness. He retaliates against bullies even when weak, later becomes the Night Demon to protect other low-level students, and repeatedly reacts most violently when a friend or family member is threatened. He can be secretive, suspicious, and frighteningly pragmatic—especially when exposure might endanger his group—but he also revisits the harm caused by those choices instead of treating strength as moral permission. Leadership makes him more willing to delegate and negotiate, while family life shows that he values ordinary companionship above fame, rule, or endless combat. (Chapters 1, 20, 277, 375, 760, 1371–1375, 1994–2012, and 2471–2476)

Powers and abilities

Quinn's fighting style integrates the Vampire System, vampire physiology, blood aura, the Punisher's shadow, Qi, celestial or god-slayer power, martial arts, and equipment. These sources do not always share the same rules: some techniques consume health, MC cells, blood, celestial energy, or physical recovery, and several later evolutions replace earlier restrictions rather than merely increasing statistics.

Vampire System and vampire evolution

The inherited black book activates through Quinn's blood and becomes an internal system with statistics, quests, levelling, skills, an inventory, inspection, and a shop. Early quests award experience or statistics; drinking a new person's blood can add a stat according to blood type, while defeating sufficiently strong enemies grants experience. The system also explains or automates abilities Quinn has not learned conventionally, but it is neither omniscient nor fully candid: its Vincent-based intelligence withholds information, and Quinn repeatedly has to test effects himself. Its continued display at the end includes an unresolved Talen-family quest, but the corpus does not explain who ultimately designed every layer of the system or why all of its later rules persist. (Chapters 1–2, 18–20, 86, 1587–1588, and 2545)

Quinn progresses from human to halfling, vampire, vampire noble and higher vampire states, ultimately becoming a Celestial Vampire and then a god slayer. Early vampirism grants enhanced senses, regeneration, physical growth through levelling and blood, Influence, Daze, and the Blood Ritual used to create vampires or subclasses. Its costs are severe: direct sunlight initially halves his statistics and worsens with exposure; prolonged hunger drains health and can overwhelm conscious restraint; blood attacks consume his own health; and major evolutions or power surges can leave him incapacitated. Protective equipment and later evolution reduce particular restrictions, but they do not erase the psychological danger of hunger or transformation. (Chapters 3, 17–20, 86, 123, 136, 1587, and 2185–2186)

At celestial evolution, the system becomes the Celestial Vampire System. The Ruler of Blood title maximizes blood skills, removes their health cost, and permits control of blood after it has left a body; it does not establish control over blood still inside an untouched target. Followers can supply celestial energy by offering blood while thinking of Quinn, while dedicated followers bear a mark through which Quinn can transfer energy; the mark also ties their survival to his while he remains a celestial. Quinn later rejects that standing and becomes a god slayer, so the follower-based progression no longer defines his latest state. (Chapters 1587–1614 and 1993)

Blood aura and control

Quinn's first offensive vampire technique is Blood Swipe, a ranged line of aura that initially costs one health point per use. He develops the same resource into sprays, shields, hammers, crescents, drills, forests of branching blood, large weapons, wings, and combinations with martial strikes. These attacks can cut, pierce, restrain, bombard an area, or add reach to close combat, but early use is limited by his health and available blood. He learns to recover health through feeding and blood banks, yet exhausting either reserve can turn an otherwise successful attack into a lethal gamble. (Chapters 17–20, 91, 123, 270, and 608)

Absolute Blood Control and the later Ruler of Blood title change both scale and precision. Quinn can condense spilled Dalki blood into projectiles, shape blood from many contributors into large attacks, and control multiple blood constructs while combining their force with Qi, shadow, or celestial energy. The strongest applications depend on how much blood is available and on what his current body can withstand: defeating Graham with settlement-wide power leaves him requiring eternal slumber, and even the nominally cost-free celestial blood skills do not make his body immune to overload. In the Immortui war, demon blood evolves this control again, allowing Quinn to sense vast bloodshed and build attacks from blood spilled across the conflict. (Chapters 1371, 1390, 1572, 1587, 1985, 2355, and 2509–2515)

Shadow ability

Quinn learns the Punisher's level-six shadow ability from the Shadow Ability Book. Its initial system resources are MC cells, and its basic applications include moving shadow as a slowing barrier, hiding or transporting equipment in dimensional storage, cloaking himself, equipping stored gear, travelling through shadows, and forming Shadow Void. Shadow Void creates a dome that removes his sunlight penalty and gives him environmental control, but its activation and every manipulation of its boundary drain MC cells. Strong attacks can deplete those cells rapidly, making a breached defence dangerous even when the shadow itself is versatile. (Chapters 87–91, 110, 123, and 426)

Advanced Punisher techniques broaden the ability's purpose. Shadow Eater is a vampire-specific punishment that imposes sunlight-like weakness even in darkness and works more reliably on a weakened target; it does not affect non-vampires. Shadow Overload temporarily turns Quinn's body into shadow at an extreme MC cost, while Absolute Shadow can suppress a target's senses and isolate them for close combat. Quinn also learns to coat shadow with second-stage Qi, giving it physical resistance without forcing the shadow itself to absorb the whole attack. (Chapters 482, 928–929, 1333, 1875, and 1967)

Becoming a god slayer evolves the shadow so ordinary use no longer requires MC points and the shadow-body state no longer depends on Shadow Overload. New infection, perception, and possession-related functions can strengthen and direct weakened infected targets, but their success is conditional rather than guaranteed. In the final battle Quinn uses the evolved shadow for travel, defence, clones, locks, weapons, and combinations with blood aura and the Asura-style extra arms. The latest corpus therefore establishes vastly improved access and control, not unlimited immunity: specialized opposing powers can still bypass or contest it. (Chapters 1993, 2045–2046, 2386, and 2515)

Qi, martial arts, and combat skill

Leo introduces Quinn to Qi as life energy that can be sensed and moved through the body or into objects. Quinn first uses it to reinforce physical attacks, manage vampire hunger, improve recovery, and activate deeper functions in equipment. Chris later formalizes the stages: first-stage control moves Qi internally and into touched objects; second-stage control releases it as an external coating that strengthens defence and weapons and can disrupt an opponent's healing. Quinn learns the second stage through repeated fights against high-tier beasts, and his prior experience manipulating shadow helps him divide attention between distinct energies. (Chapters 333–336, 526, 646, 788, and 1009–1010)

Quinn eventually projects and condenses Qi at range, mixes it with blood and shadow, and uses specialized weapons to compress it into bullets capable of piercing defences that diffuse broader attacks. Qi does not provide an inexhaustible pool: coating multiple surfaces, reinforcing equipment, and shifting defence during combat require control over a finite reserve. His technique is enhanced by extensive close-combat training—Flash Step, Hammer Strike, kicks, gauntlet combinations, Fex's vampire martial arts, and later combat instruction from Edward, Arthur, and Chris—allowing him to remain dangerous when a particular energy is suppressed. (Chapters 50, 89, 217, 425–426, 1010, 1875, and 1972–1973)

Celestial, god-slayer, and demon power

Celestial energy first appears as a fourth, white energy used to harm celestials and empower marked followers. Quinn combines it with blood and Qi rather than relying on it alone, creates celestial blood techniques, and gains points from followers or defeated celestial beings. The same economy creates dependence on public belief and draws the attention of other celestials. Quinn ultimately gives up celestial status to escape their control, converting his path into god-slayer power; this preserves his agency but removes access to the celestial progression system as it previously operated. (Chapters 1587–1588, 1614, 1801, 1875, 1927–1937, and 1993)

Quinn's demon form comes from the vampire power ultimately traced to Immortui. Its first sustained use transforms his body, overwhelms his judgment with an urge to kill, destroys part of a planet, and leaves him unable to move until Mundus accelerates roughly six months of recovery. He retains no reliable memory of the rampage, so the demonstrated destruction does not equal conscious mastery. Later demon-king energy fully materializes a different vampire-demon form with blood wings and living shadow; this evolution is stronger and more integrated with his existing powers, but the earlier danger to allies remains the clearest established limitation. (Chapters 2185–2186 and 2386–2422)

Against Immortui, Quinn's latest combat state combines evolved blood, shadow, Qi, demon-derived power, and the God Slayer Armour rather than depending on one transformation. He can resist the colourless field, repeatedly reposition through shadow, sustain prolonged combat through the armour, and build large blood-shadow constructs while adapting to Immortui's counters. His victory removes Immortui's vampiric power from everyone else but leaves Quinn unchanged as the last vampire. The corpus establishes that he can deliberately enter eternal slumber afterward; it does not establish whether his unresolved quest will awaken him or what limits his power would have after such an awakening. (Chapters 2509–2545)

Relationships

  • Layla: Layla is Quinn's earliest confidante about his hunger and later his partner. Their relationship grows from secrecy and mutual protection into parenthood with Minny and Galen; Quinn's final choice to sleep is shaped by his refusal to turn mortal Layla against their judgment.
  • Peter: Quinn saves Peter with the blood ritual despite Peter's betrayal. Peter answers that mercy with centuries of loyalty, guards Quinn's first eternal sleep, and repeatedly risks his life as the companion who considers his rescued life dedicated to Quinn.
  • Vorden and Sil: Vorden is Quinn's first protective academy friend and a foundation of his chosen family. Quinn spends years trying to restore Vorden after the Blade-family crisis, while Sil becomes an indispensable ally whose sacrifices repeatedly buy Quinn time against stronger enemies.
  • Fex: Fex teaches Quinn vampire skills and becomes his blood brother after Quinn saves him. Quinn's decision to oppose the vampire council begins with refusing to let Fex be executed, and Fex later helps persuade him to accept responsibility as king.
  • Logan: Logan equips, studies, and repeatedly rescues Quinn and the Cursed faction. Quinn trusts his technical judgment with secrets ranging from vampire equipment to eternal slumber and the world's altered memories.
  • Sam: Sam turns Quinn's protective instincts into an administrable faction. Quinn openly acknowledges that Sam's strategy and management make his leadership possible, while Sam trusts Quinn to set the faction's moral direction.
  • Vincent: Vincent is Quinn's ancestor and the intelligence within the early system. He teaches vampire history and mechanics while withholding dangerous truths, then later takes physical form and helps Quinn through kingship, evolution, and both periods of eternal slumber.
  • Arthur: Arthur is Quinn's Punisher predecessor, teacher, rescuer, and eventual source of inherited shadow power. Their alliance fractures over Arthur's crusade against vampires, but Arthur's final sacrifice and posthumous defence remain decisive to Quinn's survival.
  • Leo: Leo is Quinn's respected teacher and first guide to Qi. Quinn later appoints him a vampire knight, teaches him in return, and continues to measure difficult choices against Leo's example.
  • Minny and Galen: Minny is Quinn's adopted daughter and Galen his biological son with Layla. Protecting them repeatedly overrides political and celestial demands, and the peaceful years he spends parenting them become the life he values most.
  • Erin: Erin begins as Quinn's teammate but becomes a dhampir enemy whose growth threatens vampires and his friends. Quinn ultimately kills her after refusing to accept Bliss's argument that Erin's possible future usefulness justifies her present victims.
  • Immortui: Immortui is the source of vampirism and the final antagonist whose power also exists within Quinn. Quinn rejects both Immortui's claim over that power and the celestials' competing authority, defeating him to protect his family at the cost of ending vampirism for everyone else.
