Gu Qingluo

Gu Qingluo is a descendant of the Longxi Gu Clan whose dormant Shining Dragon bloodline makes her both extraordinarily powerful and subject to lifelong political control. She first befriends the blind Su Chen in Northface, teaches him the clan techniques that become the basis of his early fighting style, and remains his closest personal partner through their repeated separations. Her story develops from a young noblewoman carrying out clan assignments into an independent strategist and battlefield leader whose bloodline, Aspect, and immortal cultivation make her one of humanity's decisive fighters.

Biography

A secret friendship in Northface

Gu Qingluo first meets Su Chen while bathing in the rear mountain outside Northface City. Although startled that a blind stranger can infer her identity, she quickly becomes interested in his unusual composure and reasoning. She is the Second Young Miss of the Longxi Gu Clan, visiting the Lin Clan on family business, while the local Lin and Su clans are rivals. That political context forces their friendship into secrecy, but she does not pity Su Chen or treat his blindness as helplessness. Instead, she respects his refusal to surrender his future and offers practical help by teaching him Snaking Mist Steps, believing that without her bloodline he can learn only its surface movements. Her assignment in Northface is to help tame Blue Night, a juvenile Demonic Beast descended from a Soaring Serpent, through cooperation with the Lin Clan and one of its treasures. Blue Night grows affectionate toward her and follows simple directions, but will neither obey dangerous commands nor submit to the Gu Clan as a whole, exposing the gap between the mission her family expects and what she can actually compel. When a wounded Su Chen enters Lin territory, Gu Qingluo hides and treats him, explains the Lin Clan's pursuit, and guides him through the Beast Garden. Their reunion at the Hidden Dragon Institute is restrained rather than joyful. Gu Qingluo apologizes for leaving but insists that affection cannot overcome the rules governing noble bloodlines: bloodline nobles marry within controlled lineages, and a commoner without a bloodline has little chance of acceptance. She avoids Su Chen even while continuing to watch him from a distance. This hesitation is not simple embarrassment. Su Chen's willingness to understand the danger rather than dismiss it allows Gu Qingluo to rejoin his team while cautiously calling their renewed partnership “just a team.” During the Goldwater ruins expedition, separation by Ferocious Temple Warriors makes the emotional cost of that caution unmistakable. After their companions rescue her and she sees Su Chen alive, she runs into his embrace, and the pair stop pretending that their attachment has disappeared. Gu Qingluo nevertheless retains an independent career: after graduation she returns to her clan and becomes a Knowledge Executor in Longxi rather than following Su Chen immediately to Clear River. Long-distance commitment and the Long Coiling reunion

Gu Qingluo and Su Chen spend much of the Clear River conflict apart, maintaining their relationship while each carries separate official responsibilities. When Gu Qingluo arrives in Long Coiling City on clan business, she abandons decorum long enough to leap into his arms. Her relative Gu Jintang initially regards Su Chen as an unsuitable commoner, but Gu Qingluo openly defends him and arranges for Jintang to guide him through the city. The reunion shows that she is no longer willing to deny whom she has chosen merely to preserve noble appearances, even though she still knows that personal confidence cannot by itself win her family's approval. Her business in the capital is to obtain a high-quality Bloodline Awakening Medicine for a Gu elder. Gu Qingluo refuses to let Su Chen spend extravagantly on that elder's behalf, explaining that the clan would not make the same sacrifice for members destined to be transferred to Empty Mountain after awakening. The judgment reveals a less idealized understanding of her family than she possessed in Northface. She accepts gifts from Su Chen, yet also uses Algae Thread Coral to embroider him a protective robe, making their exchange reciprocal rather than allowing his wealth to define the relationship. The vow matters because neither pretends that love has already solved the bloodline order. Engagement, awakening, and forced separation

When Su Chen reaches Swallow River, he discovers that Gu Xuanmian, Gu Qingluo's father, has engaged her to Zhou Qingkuang of the Scarlet-Eyed Cinnabar Crane bloodline. Gu Qingluo secretly meets Su Chen and insists that she belongs with him, but she also proposes a politically workable route: expose Zhou's infidelity or misconduct so her father can annul the engagement without losing face. She is especially firm that the man she marries should be faithful to her. Su Chen conceals his relationship with Zhu Xianyao, creating a contradiction that later turns a hard-won reconciliation into a deeper breach of trust. (Chapters 568–577)

The crisis changes when Zhou Qingkuang poisons Gu Qingluo. Su Chen uses the top-tier Awakening Medicine he reverse-engineered in Long Coiling because stimulating her dormant Shining Dragon is the only available way to save her life, even though both know awakening will trigger her compulsory relocation. The new bloodline gives the Yang Opening cultivator enough power to contest a seven-Lotus-Platform Light Shaking patriarch. Gu Qingluo immediately uses that brief freedom to demand justice from the Zhou Clan, employing the Shining Dragon's Undying Flame and Dragon Cloud Claw while adapting her long-practiced Flying Flower Hands and Su Chen's Clear Wind Net to trap a faster opponent. The approaching Dragon Envoy forces Gu Qingluo to choose quickly. She asks Tang Lifeng to witness an immediate marriage, only for Su Chen finally to reveal Zhu Xianyao. Gu Qingluo rejects the assumption that she must accept another partner, declares that Su Chen cannot choose her fate, and attempts to leave. Su Chen then physically compels her through an improvised marriage ritual and sexual consummation despite her verbal refusals; the narration subsequently treats them as husband and wife, but Gu Qingluo later explicitly describes his conduct as having forced himself on her. Empty Mountain confinement and earned independence

For two years Gu Qingluo lives among the Origin Beast branch in Empty Mountain. Although nominally honored and favored by an elder, she describes herself as a prisoner with freedom to walk: distant relatives claim authority over her because her bloodline awakened, even though she is absent from their branch registry and grew up without them. She initially suffers from the unfamiliar internal politics, then learns to investigate motives, punish harassment, and protect her position. Her experience makes her more cautious and strategically independent, not merely more powerful. (Chapters 744–748)

When Gu Feihong confines her to prevent contact with Su Chen, Gu Qingluo notices that the stated danger in New Rain City does not match the behavior of her guards. She engineers a commotion, slips out of the residence, and publicly calls for Su Chen rather than waiting passively for rescue. After they reunite, she recognizes that the Gu Clan and Chu imperial family can track awakened Shining Dragon descendants through specialized curses and instruments. Su Chen's analysis of the Capricorn, Swan-Catching, and Origin Dream curses turns their flight into a political negotiation. She remains in Empty Mountain as his guarantee while he withdraws the threat of public disclosure, yet her status changes materially: Gu Feihong is imprisoned, the Gu elders treat her as someone whose husband cannot be ignored, and the imperial family can no longer handle her as an isolated branch descendant. The Boundless Sect and the sea campaign

After Su Chen's Harpy campaign, Gu Qingluo confronts the unequal risks he has taken for Zhu Xianyao and does not conceal her jealousy. Their conversation does not erase the earlier breach, but it establishes a household in which she can challenge his priorities rather than silently accept them. Su Chen later nullifies the three curses restraining the Gu bloodline and spends extended time with her; after the Harpy settlement she accompanies him back to the Boundless Sect. Her improved bloodline depends on Su Chen's targeted research, Desolate Beast blood, and Origin Beast essence, so the result is neither a spontaneous awakening nor a generally available Gu Clan method. She participates in the Abyss campaign, survives battles in which even top cultivators require Lifesource Candles, and later advances with the Boundless Sect into war against the Astrals. Gu Qingluo's bloodline eventually reaches sixty-percent purity, giving her support power comparable to a Sovereign even before she becomes an Ultimate Emperor. She and Zhu Xianyao subdue the Crow Skyking, then hurry to reinforce the human coalition against awakened Desolate Beasts. Gu Qingluo's arrival stabilizes the Shining Dragon manifestation formed by the Gu elders, and her bloodline provides the strongest contribution to their collective defense. When Su Chen departs one battlefield, she and Zhu Xianyao help finish a Desolate Beast without him, establishing that both women have become independent strategic assets rather than extensions of his personal combat power. During the campaign against Hidden Cloud and the other Desolate Beasts, Gu Qingluo accepts that rushing to Su Chen's side could distract him and instead focuses on destroying the enemies assigned to the coalition. She later leaves her own battle to locate the hidden Demonic Beast reserve at his request, giving him the intelligence required to turn their ambush against them. Her later discussions with Su Chen also help test his conclusions about the returning gods and the old beggar's intervention. As the path of immortal cultivation spreads, Gu Qingluo forms a Golden Pill and then receives a calculated share of captured divine power after the Night Goddess falls, advancing to the Nascent Soul Realm. In the final battle she combines Origin Energy, immortal energy, willpower, and her Shining Dragon inheritance, transforms into a majestic dragon, and meets the Moon Goddess's supernatural heat with her own concentrated flame. The clash relieves pressure across the battlefield and helps the human forces break the gods' defense. This is her final state in the supplied corpus: alive, married to Su Chen, free of the old Gu restrictions, and fighting as both an immortal cultivator and the strongest realized inheritor of the Shining Dragon bloodline. Appearance and personality

Gu Qingluo is introduced as a beautiful young woman of about fourteen, with a clear voice and the bearing of a noble clan's daughter. She commonly wears white, and later descriptions emphasize the combination of that graceful appearance with the heroic radiance of her fiery Sky Armor. Her advanced cultivation preserves her youth through the story's long time span. When her Shining Dragon power is released, overwhelming heat and light surround her, and a gigantic dragon image or full draconic transformation replaces the understated appearance she maintains in ordinary life. She is warm, lively, proud, and emotionally direct. Gu Qingluo embraces people she has missed, enjoys food and teasing, and rarely hides anger once she decides that a boundary has been crossed. That openness coexists with a strong insistence on personal choice: she resists arranged marriage, rejects being treated as clan property, and objects to Su Chen deciding what she should accept in their relationship. Her attachment to him is enduring but not uncritical; jealousy, hurt, forgiveness, and partnership all remain visible rather than being flattened into unquestioning devotion. Abilities and cultivation

Cultivation progression

Gu Qingluo begins with the physical and Origin Energy training expected of a bloodline noble and is already capable of weaponizing leaves during Su Chen's blind years. At the Hidden Dragon Institute she develops through conventional human realms while practicing Gu Clan skills and team combat. She is at the Yang Opening Realm when her Shining Dragon bloodline awakens, but the quality of an Origin Beast inheritance lets her overpower much more advanced Light Shaking cultivators. After joining the Boundless Sect, accelerated absorption and expenditure of bloodline power carry her through Light Shaking and Spirit Burning to peak Thought Manifestation, and she later possesses Ultimate Emperor-level strength. Her final progression adds Su Chen's immortal system rather than replacing her Origin Energy cultivation. She first forms a Golden Pill, establishing an internal source of immortal energy that can be combined with her bloodline and will. Shining Dragon bloodline

The Longxi Gu lineage publicly resembles a Soaring Serpent line, but its true origin is the Shining Dragon, an Origin Beast associated with the fallen Illustrious Divine Dynasty. The bloodline can remain dormant for generations and is deliberately suppressed with medicine and controlled marriages. Awakening grants immense reserves of fire-aspected Origin Energy, aerial movement, physical power, longevity, inherited Bloodline Origin Skills, and the commanding pressure of a superior beast. Its political counterweight is severe: awakened descendants can be tracked, cursed, and compelled to relocate to Empty Mountain, while excessive purity risks the beast nature overwhelming the human component. Gu Qingluo's first awakening is medicinal and lifesaving, not voluntary. It changes all of her Origin Energy to the fire attribute and grants effortless cloud-stepping flight fast enough to exceed Su Chen's contemporary movement skills. Her Undying Flame turns even casual strikes into spreading fire, while Dragon Cloud Claw produces far greater direct force than her earlier techniques. The power is initially unfamiliar: rage and Su Chen's tactical instructions help her defeat Zhou Yashan, but she exhausts herself and cannot treat raw bloodline superiority as unlimited skill. Her earlier mastery of Flying Flower Hands remains more precise even when the newly inherited claw is stronger. (Chapters 594–598)

Su Chen later raises the usable bloodline through years of individualized research. During the first sea battle, Gu Qingluo's genuine purity is twenty percent, while her Shining Dragon Aspect provides another twenty percent of pseudo-purity; a theoretical sixty-percent display is considered too dangerous at that stage. The treatment requires scarce Desolate Beast blood and Origin Beast essence and cannot simply be copied across the clan. Later the restriction is overcome and her actual awakening reaches forty and then sixty percent. Against a controlled Sea Beast Wave, the superior Origin Beast aura slows weaker beasts, breaks their coordination, and interferes with the Sovereign's command. It does not directly enslave them or guarantee victory over their controller. Maintaining the projection taxes her heavily, identifies her as the enemy's priority target, and requires allies to keep stronger foes away while the surrounding army exploits the disorder. The ability is therefore most effective as strategic support rather than as a solitary extermination technique. (Chapters 944–947)

Her fire applications range from white-hot projectiles and persistent flames that burn into a target's body to Breath of the Shining Dragon, a broad radiance capable of destroying hardened enemies and dispersing supernatural darkness or fog. She can combine the dragon essence of her bloodline with Su Chen's fire Method Power, merging their two manifestations into a superheated joint attack. Some opponents still counter it: the Reaper's power erases one breath attack, environmental suppression can weaken Origin Energy control, and the strongest Desolate Beasts or gods require collective force. Her final attack against the Moon Goddess is stronger because it unifies bloodline power with immortal energy and will, not because ordinary dragon flame alone surpasses divine power. The Gu Clan can also combine multiple bloodline images into a physically consequential Shining Dragon manifestation. Gu Qingluo's unusually pure inheritance substantially stabilizes and strengthens this formation, allowing the group to endure attacks from Desolate Beasts and return Shining Dragon flames. The collective dragon is real enough to collide with an enemy, but it remains a constructed manifestation rather than the resurrected Origin Beast, consumes the participants' reserves, and can falter under prolonged pressure. Gu Clan techniques and combat craft

Snaking Mist Steps is the Gu movement art Gu Qingluo teaches Su Chen. Its surface pattern provides deceptive, snake-like footwork even without a bloodline, while Gu blood can expose its deeper Shining Dragon origin. Gu Qingluo uses the technique naturally in close combat and evasion, though her awakened bloodline later grants faster direct aerial travel. The Smoke Snake Imprint is a related tracking mark she places on Su Chen, enabling the pair to sense one another at close range; it is a mutual locator, not unrestricted long-range surveillance. Flying Flower Hands converts small, light objects or finger energy into accurate ranged attacks. Gu Qingluo first demonstrates the principle by throwing leaves and later develops nearly two decades of familiarity with it. After awakening, she channels her vast fire Origin Energy through the established handwork and combines it with Clear Wind Net, spreading numerous cutting strands to punish a faster opponent across a wide area. The method is individually weaker than Dragon Cloud Claw, but its accuracy, coverage, and her practiced control make it more useful against evasive targets and vulnerable points. Gu Qingluo also displays practical team-combat judgment developed across the Institute, sea, Astral, and Desolate Beast campaigns. She can sustain a disruptive aura while others attack, strip concealment from an army, identify hidden reserves, and merge her fire with another cultivator's technique. These are demonstrated applications of experience and trust, not a separate supernatural command ability. Conversely, her earliest beast-taming assignment with Blue Night has narrow results: the juvenile serpent accepts affection and simple commands, but resists dangerous orders and never becomes a general Gu Clan servant. External amplifiers and limitations

Several of Gu Qingluo's peak displays depend on resources outside her innate cultivation. Desolate Beast blood and Origin Beast essence support bloodline refinement; her Aspect temporarily raises apparent purity; Sky Armor supplies a finite divine blessing and strong defense; medicines restore her after extreme output; and Lifesource Candles temporarily amplify strength in lethal battles. These effects should not be conflated with her permanent baseline. Sky Armor's divine reserve recovers very slowly without a divine source, bloodline overload remains dangerous until Su Chen raises the limit, and a Lifesource Candle is consumed when burned. Her strongest persistent limitations are thus control, cost, and scale. The awakened bloodline can make a lower-realm Gu descendant vastly stronger, but it does not provide instant technical mastery or immunity to exhaustion. Pressure that terrifies ordinary beasts cannot simply dominate a Sovereign, and flames that erase Astral defenses may fail against powers built on different laws. Even at sixty-percent purity, Gu Qingluo works most effectively within formations or in combination with Su Chen, Zhu Xianyao, and other senior cultivators. • Su Chen: Gu Qingluo is Su Chen's earliest love, eventual wife, cultivation partner, and frequent battlefield counterpart. She gives him his first movement and throwing techniques and repeatedly believes in his research, while he helps free her from bloodline restrictions and strengthen her inheritance. Their relationship also contains serious breaches: he hides Zhu Xianyao from her and forces their marriage and first consummation after she refuses.
