Lifesource Candle
A Lifesource Candle is a single-use strategic resource made from the power of the Gu Clan’s Origin Beast bloodline. Burning one temporarily raises a cultivator’s strength, can extend a dying person’s remaining life, and can serve as a sacrifice or ritual medium.
History
The Gu Clan’s strategic production
The Gu Clan produces the candles by expending large amounts of energy from its Origin Beast bloodline holders. Under its political arrangement with the Chu Clan, it must deliver an annual quota that is distributed among the seven Desolate Beast Bloodline Clans. This production helps justify the Gu Clan’s continued survival and makes it a strategic supplier for humanity. (Chapter 750)
The Gu Clan also secretly accumulates candles for a forbidden time-reversal ritual intended to wash away its curses. Chu Jiangyu discovers a cache of 161 while spying through the Swan-Catching Mirror, interrupting its completion. The candles are taken into Chu Clan custody after the confrontation. (Chapters 750 and 752)
Su Chen’s cache and personal use
Su Chen obtains all 161 candles when Chu Yuan turns over Chu Jiangyu’s Origin Ring as part of a settlement. Su Chen values them both as temporary power sources and as unusually suitable sacrifices for the Origin Bone Scepter. He later burns dozens while forcing rapid advancement in thunder- and wind-type Arcana Techniques, illustrating both their effectiveness and their extreme monetary cost. (Chapters 755 and 857)
Su Chen and Gu Qingluo activate candles together during a later battle, drastically increasing their strength and briefly raising Su Chen’s effective cultivation to the Ultimate Emperor Realm. (Chapter 1026)
Human wartime reserve
In the wars against Desolate Beasts and greater threats, human Ultimate Emperor cultivators burn Lifesource Candles as a shared trump card. Their strength can more than double, but the boost is temporary and the limited stock may be exhausted by a prolonged battle. Lower-tier forces also combine candles with large formations to help bridge the otherwise overwhelming gap against Desolate Beasts. Sabotage ordered by Eternal Night increases the pressure during one such battle and forces the humans to expend more of their limited candle reserve; he is an opposing strategist, not a producer or verified user. (Chapters 1074 and 1089)
Abilities and properties
- Temporary amplification: Lighting and activating a candle sharply raises the user’s strength, allowing more powerful Origin Skills and, in exceptional cases, a brief effective jump in cultivation. (Chapters 1026 and 1074)
- Life extension: One candle can significantly extend the remaining days of someone near death. The corpus does not define a fixed duration or describe it as permanent healing. (Chapter 755)
- Ritual medium: A sufficiently large collection can support the Gu Clan’s forbidden curse-cleansing technique, while individual candles can be offered to the Origin Bone Scepter. (Chapters 750 and 755)
- Consumable duration: A candle is spent as it burns. Users must attack quickly to avoid wasting its short-lived power, and extended battles can consume hundreds. (Chapters 857 and 1074)
- Production cost and scarcity: Formation drains substantial power from Gu Clan Origin Beast bloodline holders. Each candle is worth tens of millions of Origin Stones, making large-scale use strategically and economically costly. (Chapters 750 and 755)
