Si Tongyi

Si Tongyi is Si Yuanli’s nephew and trusted envoy within Azure Pond Sect. His modest manner and close attention to factional interests allow him to remain useful through repeated changes in the sect’s leadership.

Biography

An envoy through the sect’s changing fortunes

Yuanli sends Tongyi with his seal to urge Yuanqin to visit Xuanfeng at Moongaze Lake one last time, calling it a reason to bring Yuanqin back to his family. Tongyi fears the chance may already have passed; he later reports that Yuanqin is missing and that Ning Hejing seized the Heavenly Glow Dawn Cloudliner he had tried to use. Tongyi continues serving as an intermediary with Xizhi over rewards, disciples and sect affairs. He learns to recognize seemingly courteous refusals as political favors: when the Li elders avoid meeting Yuanqin, he quietly welcomes the advantage this gives the Si faction. (Chapters 886, 889, 898 and 917)

As the Chi faction regains confidence, Tongyi warns Xizhi of defections and growing danger, explaining Yuanli’s arrangements while maintaining their alliance. His own position as Azure Pond Peak’s Foundation master does not stop him lowering himself before the newly powerful Li Family. He later helps secure Xizhi’s acceptance of Xunhui as a disciple, presenting a prized sword spell as a respectful gift. Their old familiarity survives, but he acknowledges that their relative standing has changed. (Chapters 937–938, 1036 and 1128–1129)

After Yuanli becomes a Daoist Master, Tongyi reports Ning Wan’s absence and watches Qin Xian receive the sect master’s position. He had wanted that office, but recognizes that his own place as Yuanli’s sole junior of the line is secure and endorses Qin publicly. He prepares to visit the Li Family with Xunhui. Later, he helps establish the Immortal Administration Bureau and transfers the Azure Pond cultivators’ registries and soul lamps into its authority, continuing his administrative work as sect governance is absorbed into the new order. (Chapters 1556–1557 and 1628–1631)

Appearance and personality

He wears feathered robes, including a red garment whose iridescent light resembles a flaming phoenix during flight. He is outwardly modest, respectful and willing to adjust his etiquette to changing rank, while privately recognizing factional opportunities and harboring ambitions of his own. (Chapters 917, 937, 1036, 1129 and 1557)

Abilities and cultivation

Tongyi is explicitly a Foundation cultivator and master of Azure Pond Peak. He uses flight, secret sound transmission and perception techniques, though the latter cannot penetrate Xizhi’s improved Rainbow Mist escape light. His more consequential capabilities are reporting, diplomacy and administration; his limited innate ability does not prevent him from maintaining relationships or managing registries. The Five-Colored Boundless Sword Art he presents to Xizhi is a family gift, not an art Tongyi is shown mastering. (Chapters 889, 937, 1036, 1129 and 1628–1631, 1641)
