Li Yuanqin
Li Yuanqin is the son of Li Xuanfeng and Ning Hemian, whose position among the Azure Pond Sect’s cultivation families becomes a source of influence and conflict after his father’s death. He ultimately remains with his maternal Ning family rather than returning to the Li family. (Chapters 893–894, 1042–1043)
Biography
A strained inheritance
Yuanqin grows up in his father’s shadow. When Xuanfeng returns wounded after years away, Yuanqin watches him leave again to see the Daoist Master, suppressing both concern and resentment; the Chi brothers soon become his companions, and the bow he carries is still a skill he hopes his father will teach him. Xuanfeng catches him drinking with them and promises to take him traveling after the northern campaign, but dies before they can repair the distance between them. Yuanqin meets the news with stunned disbelief and emptiness, then performs the funeral rites and accepts his father’s bow, White Lightning. (Chapters 549, 690, 712, 893, 917)
The Chi family’s succession struggle
After Xuanfeng’s death, Yuanqin’s seniority in the Li family gives weight to his alliance with Chi Fubo, whose second lineage is contesting control of the sect. Yuanqin denounces Si Yuanli for leaving his father unsupported and advises the Chi elders to capture Li Xizhi as leverage over the Li family. The Chi faction treats him as a useful ally, while Yuanqin works through Liaokong in secret. When an ambush traps him and Xizhi inside a formation, Yuanqin appears caught between the sides; the later revelation that Liaokong is his man reframes that apparent cooperation, as Yuanqin, Xizhi, and Liaokong help bring down two Chi family members. (Chapters 893–894, 966–967, 1007–1009)
He remains with his maternal family
When the Li elders invite Yuanqin to return, he declines because the Ning family now depends on him and his mother, and he doubts that the Li family’s factions would accept his seniority without giving him real authority. He remains with Hemian and later reaches the Foundation Establishment Realm. By the time he reappears, he is helping Ning Wan: he tracks down Chi Xuxiao and recovers an item for her, then is still beside her at the Azure Pond Sect during its later crisis. After White Lightning is sent to the southern border, he says it should remain with the Azure Pond Sect until a worthy Li cultivator can claim it. (Chapters 1042–1043, 1285, 1488, 1535)
Appearance and personality
As a child, Yuanqin has gray-black eyes and softer brows; as a young man, he is described with sharp, narrow features and a gaunt face. At his father’s funeral he wears mourning robes and keeps a composed expression. He speaks softly and deliberately in council, weighing the factions around him; danger in the formation nevertheless leaves him visibly frightened. (Chapters 549, 893, 917, 1007–1009)
Abilities and cultivation
Yuanqin reaches the Foundation Establishment Realm by the time he and Hemian enter Ning Wan’s sealed dwelling. As a youth he carries a longbow and says that his father has not taught him archery, leaving his skill with it unproven. No named cultivation technique is established for him. (Chapters 712, 1285)
