Mercer

Mercer, known as the Desolate Beast, is a Beyond Grade A Pugilist associated with the Arcane Church. A huge beastman whose strength and durability suit direct combat, he first opposes Han Xiao at Planet Lighthouse, is captured and ransomed, and later fights beside the broader Beyond Grade A alliance against the World Tree.

Biography

The Evolution Cube and Crimson Dynasty

Mercer enters the Planet Lighthouse battle as one of six Arcane Church Beyond Grade As assembled around Sagman, Taylor, Sea Spirit Dylan, and Psyker. He presses Han Xiao at close range and is astonished when the Mechanic temporarily matches his greatest asset, physical strength. During the retreat, Han Xiao swaps positions with Mercer to isolate another attacker; Mercer later falls behind while absorbing the pursuing mechanical army's fire. Abandoned when the stargate closes, he fights Heber until both are injured and exhausted, then is taken prisoner, sealed, and eventually returned when the Arcane Church pays the Crimson Dynasty's ransom terms. (Chapters 845–847, 851, 855, 858–860, 863, 866, 869, and 881)

Intelligent Plague and the Association

After regaining his freedom, Mercer joins another Arcane Church operation, this time the attempt to kill Hila. He and Tolaen serve as tank-type close-range fighters, but Hila's life-span-reducing death energy makes both of them unusually cautious, leaving a Mechanic avatar to absorb much of the pressure. Han Xiao's intervention and Kasuyi's covert cooperation ruin the ambush, and Mercer escapes with Sagman and Taylor rather than suffering a second capture. He later contacts the captured Tolaen with the rueful fellowship of someone who already understands imprisonment. (Chapters 1044, 1047, 1049, 1055, and 1087)

The World Tree War

Mercer becomes part of the united Beyond Grade A force during the World Tree crisis. In a clash with revived historical Supers, Aegon wounds him heavily, but Aurora immediately restores his burned and torn body, allowing him to remain in the fight. During the final campaign, Mercer joins Heber and other Pugilists in a coordinated charge that smashes through World Tree fleet defenses. His direct appearance in that battle confirms that he survives into the late war, but the supplied corpus gives no later personal scene settling his postwar life. (Chapters 1350 and 1437)

Appearance and personality

Mercer is a gray beastman more than seven meters tall, shaped like an upright beast and covered from head to toe in thick fur. He is massively muscular and wears simple custom armor, with green Pugilist flames surrounding him in combat. Proud of his physical strength and eager to test it against worthy opponents, he can be stubborn and aggressive, though Hila's dangerous life-draining power reveals a pragmatic caution beneath his bruising style. (Chapters 846–847 and 1047–1049)

Abilities and class

As a Beyond Grade A Pugilist, Mercer specializes in tremendous strength, speed, durability, and close-range combinations. His fists can match Han Xiao's temporarily amplified strength, his rapid movement creates sudden pressure on distant targets, and his dense body endures sustained fleet and mechanical fire even while injured. He can project ranged Shockwave Blasts when direct contact is unsafe, but his strongest and most natural role is as a tank-like melee attacker in individual duels or Pugilist formations. (Chapters 846–847, 858–860, 1047–1049, and 1437)

Relationships

  • Han Xiao: Mercer begins as Han Xiao's enemy at Planet Lighthouse and later attacks Hila under the Arcane Church's orders. Their opposition ends when the World Tree crisis brings the major Beyond Grade As into the same war coalition.
  • Heber: Heber claims Mercer as his opponent during the Lighthouse pursuit, defeats the already trapped Pugilist after a prolonged duel, and later charges beside him against the World Tree.
  • Sagman: Sagman is Mercer's fellow Arcane Church attacker at both Lighthouse and the Hila ambush; the two also share the experience of being captured by enemy powers.
  • Taylor: Taylor supports Mercer with teleportation and battlefield magic, escapes both failed operations beside him, and remains part of the same church cohort.
  • Hila: Mercer helps ambush Hila but treats her death energy with marked caution because it can reduce his lifespan.
  • Aurora: Aurora heals Mercer from serious wounds during the alliance's battle with revived historical Supers.

Items

Mercer wears simple armor custom-made for his immense beastman body, but it is not named and is not presented as the source of his power. His abilities come primarily from his Pugilist physique and energy. No persistent named personal weapon or other artifact is established in the supplied corpus. (Chapter 846)
