Ames

Ames, widely known as the Dragon Emperor, is the creator and ruler of Floating Dragon Island and one of the Shattered Star Ring's original four publicly known Beyond Grade A Supers. Initially defined by overwhelming personal freedom and little interest in administration, she gradually turns the people she chooses as family into the center of her decisions. Her patronage gives Han Xiao room to build the Black Star Mercenary Group, her teaching shapes Hila and Aurora, and her alliance with Han Xiao develops into an intimate partnership that survives the World Tree war and his final information-form transformation.

Biography

The Black Star Mercenary Group

Ames enters the story as a ruler whose authority is almost entirely personal. Floating Dragon Island is a continent-sized mass she tore from a planet and turned into a mobile base, while her Void Dragon skeleton throne gives her best-known title its second meaning. When a mercenary disturbance brings her to the dock, she halts everyone with force-field pressure and orders the offenders detained. She is arbitrary but not needlessly murderous: instead of insisting on execution, she accepts ransom as a new rule and makes clear that the law of Floating Dragon is whatever she presently declares. This combination of caprice, restraint, and unanswerable strength explains both the island's freedom and its institutional weakness. (Chapters 370–373)

Her apparent detachment conceals an old abandonment. Ames was an ordinary girl whose family left her when she was young; Aesop adopted her, guided the awakening of her Super talent, and promised to find her again after she became famous. He disappeared instead, leaving her to search the galaxy for him long after she had become powerful enough to live without anyone's protection. Han Xiao earns her attention by claiming to carry Aesop's message. She assigns him work outside Floating Dragon both to test his usefulness and to extend that search, even taking his call while casually fighting another Beyond Grade A in space. (Chapters 373, 376, 382, 386, and 393)

Han Xiao's new mercenary group becomes Floating Dragon's field team and external military arm by Ames's permission. That status supplies credibility and deterrence while leaving him operational freedom that her own poorly managed organization cannot provide. When DarkStar traps the group, she crosses several star systems through borrowed teleportation magic and crushes the enemy mothership and surrounding fleet with a single large-scale force-field attack. Her intervention protects a subordinate, but it also publicly attaches the Dragon Emperor's reputation to Black Star's survival and makes attacks on the group strategically costly. The relationship becomes personal when Han Xiao captures Aesop and brings him home. Ames's rare, serious thanks—and a voluntary touch despite her dislike of physical contact—show that he has accomplished what her own power could not. A possible future later described by Han Xiao makes the stakes explicit: had she found only Aesop's grave after a century of searching, her grief would have driven her to destroy planets until other powers besieged her, destroyed Floating Dragon, and forced her to disappear. The reunion averts that collapse and turns Han Xiao from a useful field commander into someone Ames trusts. She consequently allows his force to build an independent base and expand without demanding tighter control, even though its growth begins to eclipse Floating Dragon's own organization. Mutation Disaster and the Secret War

When Ames next examines Han Xiao's progress, she repeats the force-field test that had once nearly crushed him and is pleased by how much better he withstands it. She has little interest in the administrative value of his expansion and ignores the extra burden it places on Jenny, but she supports his plans because she trusts his judgment. Curiosity about the millions of apparently immortal people around him draws her to Planet Aquamarine, where her presence alone deters DarkStar from attacking. She also honors Han Xiao's connection to his homeworld by suppressing the impulse to seize players for study, a small but telling restraint from someone accustomed to acting without permission. (Chapters 508, 550–555, and 567)

On Aquamarine, Ames becomes interested in Hila and Aurora's complementary life-and-death abilities. Hila challenges her and is defeated with ease, but Ames recognizes both sisters' potential and the trauma that binds them, which echoes her own experience as an abandoned child. She offers to teach them, not merely to collect rare talents but to give Hila the strength she wants in order to protect Aurora. Ames then lets them finish the Mutation Disaster relief work before taking them away, placing their existing responsibilities above her own timetable. (Chapters 555–557)

The Secret War exposes the limits of a force held together by reputation rather than governance. Floating Dragon remains formally neutral and comparatively weak as an organization, while Black Star openly serves Purple Crystal and becomes the more active expression of Ames's influence. Ames supports him without trying to appropriate his accomplishments, but her history with Heber remains volatile: Heber once recruited her officer Carroll, defeated her when the dispute became a battle, and later cites Han Xiao as another talent she is wasting. At the Tyrant's gathering, Ames confronts the betrayal and the rival who enabled it, showing that her tolerance for personal independence ends when it is used to humiliate her authority. Her more durable investment is in her students. Ames trains Hila by restricting her own force-field output to Grade B and still controlling every exchange, demonstrating the precision beneath her spectacular destructive feats. She is demanding during instruction but protective outside it. After a decade, she permits Hila and Aurora to leave for Black Star's organization, tells them to be careful, and privately recognizes the unfamiliar satisfaction of having been their teacher. She even arranges covert protection for their journey before accepting Aesop's argument that danger is necessary for Hila's growth. The episode begins Ames's transition from possessing the people she values to allowing them to choose their own paths. (Chapters 691, 703–715, and 728–731)

The Evolution Cube and Crimson Dynasty

That lesson is tested when Han Xiao returns as a newly advanced Beyond Grade A and asks to separate his organization from Floating Dragon. Ames realizes that independence had always been his goal and is hurt that he never intended to remain her subordinate, yet she refuses to imprison him with either authority or affection. She admits that she is not the kind of leader he would permanently follow and accepts a new alliance between equals. Han Xiao offers her access to the Evolution Cube, not as payment for consent but as repayment for years of trust, and her willingness to accept the change preserves their bond at the moment its hierarchy ends. The Cube's enhancement activates the Void Dragon genes Ames had acquired by consuming Void Dragon Pith. Her physique, force-field strength, range, and control all improve, and she gains the ability to enter the Void Dimension for rapid travel. Rather than keep Floating Dragon safely outside the conflict, she takes the entire island into battle as a personal weapon and fights beside Han Xiao. She discovers during the confrontation that he has joined the Crimson Dynasty, but the revelation does not break their new alliance; it confirms that he is now pursuing political choices independently while still treating her as a trusted partner. Ames subsequently joins Han Xiao and dynasty forces against EsGod. She catches and crushes ships, restrains an EsGod clone, protects allies with barriers, and contests the enemy's absorbed force-field ability directly. The battle emphasizes an unusual feature of her achievement: force-field control is considered a common ability with limited innate potential, yet Ames has refined it to the level where she can contend with an Esper assembled from many stolen powers. Her strength is therefore not the result of a uniquely prestigious awakening; it is the product of taking a simple ability to an extreme. (Chapters 787–808)

Her alliance changes Floating Dragon's place in the Shattered Star Ring. Ames decides to relocate the island above Planet Aquamarine, presenting the move as good for Floating Dragon while also protecting Han Xiao's homeworld and keeping her students nearby. During the journey, Aesop identifies extremists carrying psionic bombs toward Aquamarine; Ames immobilizes their ship, searches it, and eliminates the threat before it reaches the planet. Later, after learning that Han Xiao concealed a dangerous ambush at Planet Lighthouse to keep her safe, she rejects being treated as a subordinate and chooses her own response: she attacks the Arcane Church's stargate, destroys the retreat route, and helps turn the failed ambush into an enemy disaster. She has become more responsible without surrendering the freedom that first defined her. (Chapters 813, 817–822, and 851–867)

The Flickering World

After EsGod's capture, Ames accepts that Han Xiao has surpassed her and asks to spar. Their battle tests her entire style: she seals space with layered barriers, uses Gaze of the Dragon to restrain him, hurls the ten satellite bases orbiting Floating Dragon, accelerates asteroids into bombardments, and treats the island itself as a weapon. Han Xiao's superior mobility, mechanical army, and endurance eventually exhaust her energy and defeat her. Ames neither excuses the loss nor resents his rise; after a playful final flick to his forehead, she says that she admires and trusts him. When he confides that a future calamity called the World Tree may threaten them, she promises to stand beside him. (Chapters 898–909)

The defeat also clarifies how their relationship has changed. Ames no longer needs Han Xiao as an agent, and he no longer needs her as a shield, so their time together becomes elective: they tour the recovering cities of Planet Aquamarine, speak as peers, and acknowledge how thoroughly his intervention changed the planet's fate. Their public closeness grows from shared history rather than factional necessity, although neither yet defines it openly. (Chapters 908–909 and 924–929)

Ames continues Hila's education across several star fields. On a hostile planet she watches Hila fight a beast tide to exhaustion without stepping in, trusting her student to decide how far to push while remaining present if the trial turns fatal. Hila eventually advances to Beyond Grade A. When Tolaen arrives expecting to build his reputation by challenging Ames, she allows Hila to answer instead and watches her graduate through victory. She then accepts Hila's decision to remain an officer under Han Xiao, treating the choice as the completion of her teaching rather than a rejection. (Chapters 925, 948–953, and 998–1003)

At Han Xiao's gathering of Beyond Grade As, Ames sits beside him while Hila takes the other side, visually placing their small circle inside a larger effort to stabilize relations among transcendent individuals. She later helps conceal Han Xiao's absence while he protects Hila and Aurora from a coordinated attack. Ames recognizes that he has manipulated her concern for her students, confronts him over it, and cooperates anyway because their safety matters more than her irritation. She accepts a promised journey through the secondary dimensions as compensation, turning conflict into another shared commitment rather than allowing it to erode trust. (Chapters 1005–1008, 1026–1031, and 1039)

Intelligent Plague and the Association

During the Intelligent Plague era, outsiders already treat Ames as a pressure point in plans against Han Xiao, evidence that their bond is strategically visible. Ames herself is less interested in defining it than in maintaining it. She stays comfortably at Black Star Palace when both Han Xiao and Hila are present, understands that his responsibilities leave him little time, and does not demand constant attention. When he finally fulfills his promise of a secondary-dimensional trip, she travels beside him rather than as a protected dependent; her Void heritage and previous travels let her operate in those environments while observing his repeated instinct to recruit every useful power they encounter. (Chapters 1045–1064 and 1071–1080)

The abduction of Aesop ends that relaxed interval. After the Soul Swapper places Aesop's consciousness in danger, Ames helps secure him and insists on striking back at the responsible forces. Han Xiao tries to exclude her from the most dangerous part of the retaliation against Manison, but she reminds him that the injured person is her family and that an alliance cannot mean he alone bears every risk. During the operation, she and Hila pursue the Soul Swapper while Han Xiao occupies Manison, choosing the objective only they can secure rather than intruding into a Mechanic duel where they would be less effective. (Chapters 1153 and 1157–1169)

With Aesop safe, Ames still demands an answer from the Modo Civilization. She accompanies Han Xiao through its territory, helps dismantle the fleets placed in their path, and lets him deliver the decisive strike against the chosen target. Yet she does not turn family injury into endless destruction. Once the retaliation is complete, she considers the account settled and returns home with Aesop. This measured ending contrasts with the catastrophic future in which grief over his death would have consumed her; she now has allies, a living family, and enough restraint to stop after making her point. Before leaving, Ames gives Han Xiao the handwritten Dragon Emperor Star Energy Extraction Technique, an advanced energy-training method she developed herself. The gift is personal knowledge rather than political currency, and it answers his support with something only she could provide. Hila's later plan to ask Ames to search the secondary dimensions if Han Xiao remained missing also shows the durable result of these years: her students still regard her as the person capable of reaching them across inaccessible spaces, even after they have established lives of their own. Sanctum Revival and the Super Crisis

As Han Xiao's responsibilities expand through the Sanctum discoveries and the Beyond Grade A Association, Ames becomes one of the few places where he rests. He regularly teleports to Floating Dragon during his free time, and she invites him back when work keeps them apart. Ames notices that his confidence has acquired an unfamiliar strain and asks what burdens him. Although he does not reveal the full truth, she responds to the emotional reality rather than the incomplete explanation, taking his hand and assuring him that their breath, warmth, touch, and her own presence are real. (Chapters 1219 and 1247–1248)

This intimacy does not make Ames passive in the association's confrontation with the universal civilizations. She relays Aesop's warning that a conflict between the civilizations and the association will change the universe's fate, remains with Han Xiao's people as a reserve during the crisis, and takes refuge with Floating Dragon personnel while he faces the direct members sent against the association. Her role is protective rather than strategic—she does not design the deterrence or command Han Xiao's response—but her presence gives his officers and her own organization a Beyond Grade A defender if negotiations collapse into wider war. (Chapters 1299 and 1309)

The civilizations withdraw, and Ames returns to Floating Dragon rather than seeking power from the outcome. Jenny's decision to prolong her emergency holiday immediately exposes an unchanged weakness: Ames has become willing to protect a community, but she still dislikes managing its ordinary work. The crisis therefore advances her personal bond and public alignment without converting her into an administrator or ideological leader. Floating Dragon remains a family-like domain organized around her presence, with others still carrying much of its institutional burden. (Chapters 1309–1314)

The World Tree War

The World Tree threat turns Ames's earlier promise into a concrete choice. Her relationship with Han Xiao becomes intimate before the general war reaches its decisive phase, and the two later announce it publicly. She does not allow that relationship to become a reason for exclusion: when the front grows more dangerous, Ames firmly tells him she is coming and has him transport her to the base. Han Xiao accepts because the decision is hers, completing the shift that began when he concealed the Planet Lighthouse ambush and she insisted that an ally chooses her own risks. (Chapters 1326, 1355, and 1420)

In the large Beyond Grade A battles, Ames acts mainly as a controller. She restrains enemy experts with Gaze of the Dragon, shields allies, disrupts formations, and turns battleships into projectiles. Her largest attacks require time to accumulate energy, so hesitant teammates repeatedly cost her openings; she adapts instead of charging alone and admits that she is unwilling to sacrifice herself as readily as the civilization direct members. This is not presented as cowardice but as a clear-eyed limit. Ames fights and bleeds for the explored universe while retaining the personal independence that has always governed which risks she accepts. (Chapters 1361–1363)

Her conduct toward Aurora after the battle is equally revealing. Though Aurora was prevented from healing the group and feels responsible for Ames's wounds, Ames pats her head, says that her survival matters more, and refuses to let the student treat an enemy's successful countermeasure as a personal failure. The once-inexperienced teacher now provides reassurance as deliberately as she once provided harsh training. Later comparisons still place the pressure of her force field above dangerous secondary-dimensional phenomena, confirming that wartime injury has not displaced her from the Beyond Grade A tier. Ames remains inside Han Xiao's closest circle as the war continues, meeting newly promoted allies beside Hila, Aurora, and Feidin. Once the World Tree is subdued, her public partnership with Han Xiao changes Floating Dragon's future more than any new title would. Jenny concludes that Ames no longer needs her constant protection and resigns to pursue a life of her own, while treating Han Xiao as family. Ames ends the war still ruler of the island and still resistant to administration, but no longer isolated behind the power that originally guaranteed her freedom. (Chapters 1392, 1420, and 1444)

Information Form and the Final Relay

Peace exposes a new distance between Ames and Han Xiao. He buries himself in research about the universe's information-form crisis, and she confronts him over continuing to carry an unnamed pressure after the World Tree and universal civilizations have ceased to threaten them. Ames asks why he cannot let others share the consequence; he replies that they cannot help and promises only that he will keep everyone alive. She understands that the subordinate she once protected has reached a level she cannot follow and feels the loss, even though his affection has not changed. (Chapter 1456)

When Han Xiao later needs personal memories and relationships to stabilize his information form, Ames becomes one of his anchors. The immediate reconciliation is private, but its effect is explicit: his bond with her strengthens the base he needs to preserve his identity during the final conversion. Ames is not reduced to a passive symbol in the meantime. She visits Aurora, tracks down Jenny and her family during their travels, rescues them from a cave-in, and fusses over Jenny's child with clumsy affection. Her family circle has expanded from the one missing adoptive father she pursued across the galaxy to several generations of people who voluntarily remain connected to her. (Chapters 1458 and 1461–1462)

Ames initially hesitates when Han Xiao repeatedly proposes that they have a child, but she ultimately chooses to do so. Roughly eight years later, she and their only daughter wait on Floating Dragon while Han Xiao begins the conversion that will join the dark universe to the real one. He has trusted Ames with the truth of the operation, making her one of the few people able to understand his absence. When their daughter senses him and asks when he will return, Ames does not offer false certainty; she says that he is doing an enormous task, will watch over the child wherever he is, and will return when she grows up. Her final role is therefore neither subordinate nor emperor in a larger state, but partner, mother, and keeper of the personal continuity Han Xiao is trying to carry across realities. Appearance and personality

Ames is a tall galaxy human woman with extremely long, smooth black hair, pale skin, long legs, and a youthful face that shows no sign of her age. Symmetrical black thorn-like markings extend from the corners of her eyes, whose calm intelligence often contrasts with her impulsive behavior. She normally wears a flowing or high-cut black dress and speaks in a husky, magnetic voice. Her most iconic presentation places her floating above the ground or seated on a throne made from the skeleton of a Void Dragon. (Chapters 370–371, 386, and 409)

She is proud, willful, curious, and accustomed to complete personal freedom. Ames dislikes bureaucracy, often leaves routine governance to Jenny, and can respond to insult or danger with overwhelming force. She is nevertheless less bloodthirsty than her reputation suggests: she accepts ransom instead of executions, avoids experimenting on Planet Aquamarine's players out of respect for Han Xiao, and ends her retaliation against Modo once the responsible party has paid. Her deepest vulnerability is abandonment. Loyalty to Aesop, her students, Han Xiao, and later her wider family repeatedly turns that vulnerability into protection rather than possession. Ames develops most visibly through the way she handles other people's independence. She first rules by declaring that her words are the rules, but later lets Hila and Aurora leave, accepts Han Xiao's separation, refuses to be protected without her consent, and eventually allows Aesop to travel through a safer soul-swapping arrangement. She can be demanding and jealous, yet she increasingly expresses attachment through trust, teaching, gifts, and presence. Her lingering reluctance to manage Floating Dragon prevents this growth from becoming a complete transformation into a conventional leader. (Chapters 370, 728–731, 770, 858–861, 1248, and 1314)

Abilities and class

Ames is a Beyond Grade A Esper whose ability controls force fields. The ability is described as common and limited in natural potential; her exceptional status comes from developing its scale, strength, range, precision, and versatility far beyond ordinary users. Aesop taught her how to awaken her Super talent, but the corpus does not describe a more specialized origin for the force-field ability itself. (Chapters 373, 804–806, and 906–907)

Force-field control

Ames can generate pressure, attraction, repulsion, restraint, and shock waves over both individual and fleet-scale targets. She grabs people or ships without physical contact, crushes hulls, tears land apart, redirects moving objects, splits formations, and drags battleships into one another. Gaze of the Dragon concentrates a powerful restraining field on a chosen target; despite its name and her frequent hand gestures, it remains an application of her Esper ability rather than a separate draconic power. Its pressure is strongest close to her, while large-area use emphasizes control more than instantaneous killing force. (Chapters 370–371, 400–403, 691, 804–806, 906–907, and 1361)

In a vacuum, she can keep accelerating objects for as long as she supplies force, allowing asteroids, satellite bases, and Floating Dragon itself to become weapons. Her named or distinctive applications include Seismic Wave, Satellite Cannon, and the asteroid bombardment called Dragon's Breath Shooting Star Fist. She can control many trajectories at once and once demolished a mothership fleet upon arriving from several star systems away. These feats require energy and concentration: her output falls in a prolonged battle, her strongest accumulation can be interrupted, and specialized anti-force-field equipment can temporarily resist her control. Defense, flight, and spatial movement

Force-field barriers let Ames fly, remain active in space, shield allies, and deflect dense energy fire. She can wrap an area in seamless layered defenses or create precisely bounded fields around individuals and ships. Her own Beyond Grade A body can survive in a vacuum; when she wants to speak there, she draws gas around herself to carry sound rather than because she needs it to breathe. A sufficiently powerful peer can strain or break her defenses, and maintaining them contributes to the same finite energy expenditure as her attacks. (Chapters 386, 779, 804–806, and 906–907)

After using the Evolution Cube, Ames's dormant Void Dragon genes awaken and grant her a form of Void Hyperdrive. She can enter the Void Dimension and use it as a route for extremely rapid relocation, while her enhanced physique and Esper parameters improve her conventional combat. The spatial ability depends on the Void heritage she acquired from Void Dragon Pith; it is not an inherent feature of ordinary force-field control. Beyond Grade A physique and combat method

Ames possesses the durability, energy reserves, reactions, and unaided space mobility expected of a Beyond Grade A. Although she normally fights through her Esper ability, she can combine force-field acceleration with physical blows and withstand impacts that would destroy ordinary Supers. Her battles favor spatial control, environmental weapons, and protection of allies over close-range exchanges. Opponents with superior mobility, exceptional endurance, or enough numbers to force continuous expenditure can outlast her; Han Xiao demonstrates all three during their spar. Dragon Emperor Star Energy Extraction Technique

Ames created the Dragon Emperor Star Energy Extraction Technique, an advanced and broadly compatible energy-training method. She records it by hand and gives it to Han Xiao after their retaliation against Modo, indicating that it is personal research rather than standard faction knowledge. The corpus establishes its high value and inclusive applicability but does not fully describe its training process, numerical effects, or developmental history. (Chapter 1177)

Relationships

• Han Xiao: Ames first makes Han Xiao a Floating Dragon field commander because he can help find Aesop, then protects and trusts his mercenary group while it grows. When he becomes her equal, she accepts his independence and forms an alliance rather than attempting to retain him. Mutual reliance develops into an acknowledged intimate partnership; she chooses to fight beside him, becomes one of his information-form anchors, shares his final secret, and raises their daughter while awaiting his return.
• Aesop: Ames's adoptive father, first teacher, and earliest family bond. His disappearance drives her century-long search, and the possibility of his death once threatened to turn her grief into indiscriminate destruction. Their reunion stabilizes her, though his continuing wanderlust and habit of withholding prophecies remain sources of frustration.
• Hila: Ames accepts Hila as a student after seeing her determination to protect Aurora. Her precise but punishing training helps Hila advance from Grade B to Beyond Grade A, after which Ames respects her decision to serve under Han Xiao. Their relationship matures into one between a proud teacher and an independent former pupil.
• Aurora: Ames trains Aurora alongside Hila and becomes protective of her gentler student. During the World Tree war, she comforts Aurora after an enemy prevents her from healing Ames, refusing to let her take personal blame. Ames continues visiting her in the postwar era.
• Jenny: Ames's cousin and head administrator carries most of Floating Dragon's routine burden, frequently suffering from Ames's indifference to management. Their bond remains familial despite the strain. Jenny eventually resigns after Ames and Han Xiao establish their partnership, and Ames becomes an affectionate, if inexperienced, aunt to Jenny's child.
• Heber: Ames's long-standing rival in the Shattered Star Ring. Their feud begins when Heber recruits her officer Carroll and defeats her in the resulting fight. They repeatedly clash politically and physically, though the World Tree threat ultimately places them on the same side.
• Manison: Ames knows Manison through the small circle of Beyond Grade As and Aesop's older connections. When Manison's pursuit of the Soul Swapper endangers Aesop, she works with Hila to secure the device while Han Xiao defeats Manison's avatar. They later cooperate through the association and World Tree defense.
• EsGod: Ames fights EsGod beside Han Xiao and the Crimson Dynasty, using force-field control to restrain his clone and protect allies. The encounter tests her highly refined single ability against EsGod's collection of absorbed powers.
• Feidin: Feidin's custody of the Soul Swapper gives Aesop a safer way to resume traveling with Ames's permission. He later remains part of the trusted circle that meets and fights alongside Ames during the World Tree era.
• Sylvia: Sylvia is one of Han Xiao's senior officers and interacts with Ames through the overlap between the Black Star Army and Floating Dragon. Ames's growing closeness with Han Xiao is familiar enough to the household that their near-consecutive calls become a source of private humor.
• Phillip: Han Xiao's artificial intelligence supports Ames with communication, tracking, and access to army resources. In the postwar era, Ames uses Phillip's authority to locate Jenny's family, while Phillip alerts Han Xiao to her movements.
• Herlous: Herlous serves in the mercenary group while it is formally Floating Dragon's field team. Ames's protection and institutional name give him and the other early officers room to build the force that later becomes independent.

• Floating Dragon Island: A mobile landmass Ames tore from a planet and equipped with shields, engines, and residential infrastructure. It serves as her headquarters, home, political domain, and occasionally a force-field-propelled weapon.
• Esper Ability Enhancement Orb: Han Xiao gives Ames this Universal Treasure after the Intelligent Plague era. Prolonged energy input can randomly improve an Esper ability and may raise its potential, but the effect is luck-dependent and the corpus does not confirm a specific enhancement Ames receives from it.
