Ria
Ria is a spiky orange-haired Mixedblood, MBO officer, and long-running member of Gustav Oslov's circle. Loud, competitive, and unusually quick to turn rivalry into friendship, he measures much of his growth against Gustav without treating that ambition as a reason for betrayal. His A-grade rock-manipulation bloodline develops from carried stones and earthen armor into terrain control, lava, massive projectiles, fortifications, and a later ability to draw power from a distant star. (Chapters 163–1687)
Biography
The loud rival at the entrance trials
Ria enters the MBO examination by insulting the participants who failed the tower approach, immediately provoking arguments and easing the fearful silence through sheer noise. He banters with Glade, challenges Teemee, and turns the endurance phase into a contest even while the test drains him. His first battles already show the core of his temperament: he is vain about strength and frustrated by being surpassed, but he responds to stronger peers by pushing himself rather than withdrawing. (Chapters 163, 179–180)
The assessment exposes the practical limits behind that confidence. Ria's bloodline is attuned to rock manipulation, so he carries palm-sized stones into an environment where usable earth may be absent. He can enlarge, harden, and merge them into a car-sized projectile, but his supply and energy cap the result. The later grade test identifies his bloodline as A-grade. These results earn him a place in the MBO cohort, yet they also establish why he remains obsessed with training: his potential is high, while his early control and resources are plainly finite. (Chapters 206–215)
Cadet rivalry becomes chosen loyalty
At the academy, Ria turns his competitive drive toward Gustav and begins calling him his rival. A match with Elevora demonstrates improved control—rock armor covers his limbs, the floor traps her legs, walls close around her, and fragments combine into a building-sized boulder whose blackened state doubles its speed—but she still breaks his armor and defeats him. The loss frustrates him without changing the direction of his ambition. By the field-mission period, he trains so relentlessly that his friends note his frequent absence and his refusal to accept remaining weaker than Gustav. (Chapters 413, 579, 708)
Ria's rivalry is affectionate rather than opportunistic. When Gustav becomes a wanted suspect, Ria insists that he will not let anything happen to his rival and joins the others' plan despite institutional pressure. He later treats Gustav's return and cooking as occasions for celebration, while continuing to speak openly about surpassing or at least closing the gap with him. The important development is not that Ria stops competing; it is that competition becomes a language of trust, giving him a reason to improve for the group's sake instead of a grievance against its strongest member. (Chapters 764, 802, 1016)
Genxodus operations and IYSOP
Cosmic missions move Ria from academy sparring into coordinated survival. He works within the same field team as Aildris, Elevora, Angy, Matilda, and the others, accepting direction when a specialist has the better plan. At the IYSOP selection he is still only peak Falcon and knows that Kilo-ranked candidates represent a serious gap, but he insists on earning a main-team position beside Gustav. The oasis connection then lifts the group to Kilo rank and unlocks predecessor-linked potential; Ria immediately demonstrates a mobility application by sinking into the ground and racing through it. (Chapters 1026–1144)
IYSOP tests both his humor and discipline. During the sinking-highlands traversal, falling rocks knock him loose and Gustav catches him, a small reversal of the rivalry he likes to dramatize. In the medallion challenge Ria turns ground into a sinking lava terrain, coats himself in dark rock, and batters opponents before obeying Gustav's order to fortify the team's breached barricade. The episode captures his value to the Earth team: his bloodline can attack, reshape the field, and hold a defensive objective, while his willingness to switch roles prevents pride from undermining strategy. (Chapters 1223, 1307)
The Outworldly search, capture, and release
Ria joins Aildris and Gustav in the search connected to the Outworldly crisis. Months of secluded training let him and Aildris test themselves against Jack, the world's strongest Mixedblood. Ria combines a volcanic, magma-trailed mass with Aildris's restraint and manages to scald Jack's palm. Jack remains overwhelmingly superior, but judges Ria capable of contending with a Beta-ranked Mixedblood. That is a combat assessment, not proof that Ria himself has reached Beta, and the corpus never supplies a later ordinary rank statement. (Chapters 1422, 1427)
At the barrier around the hidden central planet, Ria reveals that he can draw energy from a distant star. His body becomes incandescent and he channels the gathered power into a direct strike, adding a stellar-energy application to the rock-based bloodline already established. Even that attack cannot breach the repelling force; Gustav must carry him across. Ria then enters the planet because rescuing the captured members of the group matters more than the uncertainty of the terrain ahead. (Chapter 1439)
The Intergalactic Alliance later captures Ria to create leverage around Gustav and confines him as a high-value prisoner in Cell Block Delta-7. His friends refuse to alert Gustav immediately because they recognize the capture as bait, then attempt to gather evidence and devise a controlled rescue. The corpus shows Ria battered and tortured while they plan. After Gustav's trial, Gustav demands his freedom and the Alliance leadership promises release; Ria is back with the group by Chapter 1522. The confinement therefore ends through political pressure after failed direct efforts, though the exact extraction from the cell is not shown. (Chapters 1490–1503, 1520–1522)
Endric's expedition and the deity war
Once free, Ria volunteers to accompany Endric Oslov on an off-world search for another Time Candidate and the remaining sacred item. Endric warns him that the mission will be dangerous, but Ria wants experience beyond Earth and accepts the seriousness of the objective. Their later expedition with Sersi finds decoy worlds, hostile watchers, and forbidden routes. Ria contributes alert ground reconnaissance, keeps Sersi from treating herself as the weak link, and takes the ship's controls during a swarm attack, flying the damaged craft out while its shields collapse. (Chapters 1539–1540, 1606–1626)
The final war transforms that adventure into catastrophe. Ria helps secure rescued civilians and later shields Sersi with a red-hot aura when Nocturnis attacks. He repeatedly tries to protect Endric despite being outmatched, is wounded and knocked unconscious, and witnesses Gustav's apparent death. In the months that follow, grief leaves him visibly thinner and shaking, but he remains in the hidden-star council, helps recover fragments of Gustav's essence with Aildris, and continues the ritual effort even as deity pursuit destroys his shields. (Chapters 1630, 1648–1669)
Ria survives the final confrontation behind the protection created by Gustav and Angy. When Gustav returns, Ria embraces the rival he had mourned; afterward he participates in the funeral procession and the group's attempts to live with Angy's sacrifice. Years later he remains close enough to interrupt Endric's work and tease E.E at his wedding. His epilogue state preserves the trait present at the entrance test—boisterous competition—but now as part of a veteran community bound by losses and missions that none of them could have survived alone. (Chapters 1680–1687)
Appearance and personality
Ria is introduced as a tall, slim young man with spiky orange hair. His most visible combat change is the accumulation of stone over his limbs or whole body, giving him the silhouette of a dark rocky humanoid and greatly increasing the mass behind his strikes. Later stellar channeling surrounds him in crackling energy and incandescent light rather than replacing his physical form. (Chapters 163, 413, 1307, 1439)
He is loud, mocking, sociable, and intensely competitive. Ria often uses jokes and boasts to relieve tension, though the same impulsiveness can start needless arguments or make a defeat feel personally humiliating. He recovers quickly when stronger people give him a standard to chase, and his rivalry with Gustav contains admiration rather than resentment. In crises, the showmanship gives way to dependability: he follows battlefield orders, encourages Sersi, flies under pressure, and keeps protecting companions even after an enemy has demonstrated that Ria cannot win. (Chapters 163–180, 764, 1307, 1610–1626, 1648–1669)
Bloodlines and abilities
Rock and terrain manipulation
Ria's A-grade bloodline is explicitly attuned to rock manipulation, although the corpus does not provide a distinct canonical name or an origin beyond his being a Mixedblood. He can telekinetically control existing stone, enlarge and harden small pieces, merge fragments, and change their form into hammers, fists, armor, walls, or boulders. Early dependence on carried stones shows a key mechanical limit: in an artificial or stone-poor environment, he needs material prepared in advance. Enlarging and controlling the mass also consumes energy, and his entrance-test effort leaves him trembling as he forces hostile ground to respond. (Chapters 179–180, 207, 215)
With accessible terrain, Ria can manipulate the battlefield itself. He sinks feet into the ground for anchoring, accelerates himself by driving the earth beneath him, traps an opponent's legs, raises converging walls, and pulls fragments upward into a building-scale projectile. He can turn a projectile black to double its speed, cover limbs or his entire body in rock for striking power and protection, and later convert ground into a sinking lava field. The rock coating softens damage but transmits enough force to injure him; Elevora shatters sections and kicks through his defense, so armor mass does not make him immovable. (Chapters 179–180, 413, 1307)
His control also supports movement and fortification. After the oasis awakening he can sink into earth and travel rapidly through it, while at IYSOP he adds a defensive layer around Gustav's barricade. These applications require usable ground and are vulnerable to environments, barriers, or opponents that deny contact or overwhelm the constructed material. Later battles show larger scale and better heat integration, including the magma-trailed mass used against Jack, but do not show that these constraints have disappeared. (Chapters 1144, 1307, 1427)
Stellar-energy channeling
By Chapter 1439, Ria can draw energy from a distant star, a capability that surprises the companions present. The gathered power makes his body glow with fierce incandescent light and concentrates into a direct, high-force strike. Chapter 1648 later describes a red-hot aura used to shield Sersi, which is consistent with his heat-linked development but is not formally named as the same technique. The corpus does not explain whether stellar drawing is a predecessor-unlocked extension of his A-grade bloodline, a learned technique, or another source of power, so its origin should remain unresolved. (Chapters 1439, 1648)
The stellar attack offers power in environments where ordinary stone may be inaccessible, including open space. Its limits are clearest at the hidden planet: even after drawing from a distant star, Ria cannot overcome the repelling force. No recharge time, maximum range, or physiological cost is stated, and later chapters do not establish a higher named form. His latest ordinary combat record therefore combines advanced rock, lava, heat, shielding, and stellar-channel applications while leaving their exact relationship and upper boundary unstated. (Chapters 1439, 1648–1669)
Power progression
| Stage / Realm / Ability | Chapter(s) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| A-grade bloodline | 215 | The MBO assessment explicitly groups Ria among the candidates with A-grade bloodlines. This is a grade/potential classification, not a Mixedblood rank. |
| Peak Falcon rank | 1068 | Ria is explicitly listed among the group members still at the peak of Falcon rank. His starting rank and the earlier Zulu, Serial, Gilberk, and Martial intervals are not individually shown. |
| Kilo rank, at least second step | 1144 | After the oasis connection, Gustav observes that everyone present is Kilo-ranked and that no one is below second step. Ria is present; his exact step above that floor is not stated. |
| Stellar-energy channeling | 1439 | Ria draws power from a distant star and channels it through an incandescent strike. The source does not identify this as a new formal rank or explain how it relates to his predecessor awakening. |
Relationships
- Gustav Oslov: Ria calls Gustav his rival and uses the gap between them as a reason to train. The rivalry remains loyal: he supports Gustav when the MBO turns against him, accepts his orders during IYSOP, and enters the Outworldly search to recover their friends. Gustav catches him during the sinking-highlands challenge and later forces the Alliance to release him, while Ria's grief after Gustav's apparent death reveals how fully competition has become friendship. (Chapters 579, 708, 764, 1016, 1223, 1307, 1520, 1660–1680)
- Aildris: Aildris is a frequent field partner and stabilizing counterweight to Ria's impulsiveness. Their combined attack makes Jack exert real effort, and they later work together in the hidden-star resistance and recover one of Gustav's scattered essence fragments. (Chapters 1422–1427, 1660–1667)
- Endric Oslov: Ria chooses Endric as his expedition leader after the Alliance releases him. Their banter develops into operational trust as they search for the Time Candidate and sacred item; Ria pilots on command and later risks himself trying to keep Nocturnis away from Endric. In the epilogue he remains familiar enough to interrupt and tease the more work-focused Endric. (Chapters 1539–1540, 1606–1626, 1648–1655, 1687)
- Sersi: On the expedition, Ria encourages Sersi when she fears she is holding the team back and treats her as an equal contributor. He later shields her during the deity attack, and both survive the war and its aftermath as members of the same reduced circle. (Chapters 1610, 1626, 1648–1687)
- Teemee, Glade, and the MBO cohort: Ria's entrance-test antagonism toward Teemee and Glade grows into long-term camaraderie. Their banter remains abrasive, but the group repeatedly trains, competes, and takes institutional risks together. (Chapters 163–180, 339, 764, 1687)
Items
Ria is not shown owning a separately cataloged notable item. He travels in and helps operate Gustav's spacecraft during Endric's expedition, but the vessel remains Gustav's asset rather than Ria's property. His early habit of carrying small stones is tactical preparation for his bloodline, not a unique named possession. (Chapters 207, 1540, 1606–1626)
