Queen Rhiannon

Rhiannon Regina Luxuriae is the Succubus Queen who rules the Thirteenth Layer of the Abyss. Introduced as a Demigod adversary who uses charm, possession, and force to control captives, she is defeated only through a coalition built around Lux, Cai, and Antero. A negotiated soul contract turns that conflict into an alliance. Her protection of the Succubi, reconciliation with Aurora, and devotion to Dia later make her Lux’s partner and wife.

Biography

The Dragon kingdoms and the Abyss

Rhiannon intervenes when Ampelos’s Satyrs capture Cai’s expedition, but her rescue is selective and coercive. She protects the people Cai identifies as friends while using Epic Charm to leave six unrelated Ranker women under orders that strip their agency. At the Passion Palace, she intends to transform Cai into a Succubus and use Lux as the instrument, believing that a woman with the Celestial Maiden Physique must learn to take power before a man takes hers. Lux’s rescue force rejects that logic. Coordinated Mana Drain, light-based suppression, Gaap’s defense, and anti-ethereal attacks force the newly minted Demigod away from effortless magical dominance and into a prolonged battle she cannot cleanly win. (Chapters 874–892)

Cai’s access to Rhiannon’s memories exposes the trauma behind, but not an excuse for, her conduct. Her first love drained her essence to reach Calamity Rank, discarded her, and later tried to exploit her again. After centuries of survival, Rhiannon reached Calamity herself, killed him, absorbed his essence, broke through to Demigod, and seized the Thirteenth Layer. Defeat makes her negotiate rather than repeat that cycle. She gives Cai her true name under a soul contract, accepts memory erasure and restrictions against harming the group, and trades controlled essence transfer for Lux’s help against Andras. Her conditions also secure an escape route for every Succubus under her protection. (Chapters 895–898)

The alliance is immediately tested when Andras and Andrealphus attack. Rhiannon fights Andras directly above the battlefield, but his prepared barrier confines her while his ally targets Lux and the Thirteenth Layer. Her tears when Eiko’s reinforcements arrive show how much survival of her new allies matters despite her earlier contempt. Antero’s return breaks the trap and shifts the war. After Andras dies, Rhiannon takes the Twelfth Layer’s Core, subjugates his territory, and becomes the unmatched Overlord of the upper hundred Layers while leaving a trusted subordinate to administer the new domain. The Divine Army reckoning

Victory does not make Rhiannon abandon the bargain. She lets Lux draw more of her strength so he can help Cai and Iris reach D-Rank, accepting some temporary loss because his life essence compensates her and because she has developed genuine affection for him. She also negotiates safe entry into Heaven’s Gate for Succubi who want to see Elysium, while remaining in the Abyss herself to rule those who stay. Her choices move the relationship from enforced restraint to reciprocal trust: she could use Lux’s escape marble, but instead treats it as insurance and asks him to grow strong. (Chapters 909–911)

Looking through Lux’s memories reveals that Aurora, the daughter Rhiannon left in Agartha, is still alive and cursed as Misfortune’s Beloved. Rhiannon travels with Antero to recover Fortuna’s Tears, then gives the artifact to Lux because it can prevent Aurora’s misfortune from spreading to others, even though it cannot remove the daughter’s own suffering. The gift enables Lux to approach Aurora and bring her out of isolation. Rhiannon’s warning about hundreds of Abyssal Demigods also becomes a strategic benchmark: when later gates open, Lux remembers that even his coalition defeated her only through specialized counters and Antero’s protection. Abyssal invasion and broken memories

When the lower Abyss begins mobilizing, Rhiannon reads reports from her subordinates and recognizes the approaching danger. She is pregnant with Dia, a condition that diverts much of her physical and magical power into the developing child and extends gestation well beyond a human term. Antero therefore seals both entrances to the Thirteenth Layer and refuses to leave her exposed. The protection succeeds: Daniel’s conquest stops at the neighboring Layer, while outside observers assess that control of the Twelfth Layer has brought Rhiannon near peak Demigod strength when she is not under the pregnancy’s suppression. (Chapters 1089, 1092)

Rhiannon does not join the invasion of Elysium and Solais. Her Succubi remain anxious about their queen, but Lux assures them that Antero is protecting her and trusts that she is now on their side. This absence is a deliberate consequence of pregnancy, family, and allegiance rather than indifference to the conflict: she stays behind the sealed portals while her former enemies defend their worlds. The arrangement also shows the limit of territorial power. Rhiannon’s authority makes the Thirteenth Layer a refuge, but it cannot let her safely project full strength across the severed routes during the invasion. (Chapters 1094, 1098–1099)

The rescue from the Abyss and the final war

Lux returns to the Thirteenth Layer after Aurora dies and her soul is reborn somewhere deeper in the Abyss. Rhiannon’s first response is to rise and search despite being close to childbirth, but the strain endangers Dia, so she accepts Lux’s promise to go in her place. She identifies the four Layers where Abyssal victims are reborn and judges the 333rd most likely, then makes a pendant from her blood. Because she marked Aurora’s soul at birth, the pendant glows on the correct Layer and can form a red thread leading to her. This maternal preparation gives Lux the tracking method his necromancy lacks. (Chapters 1146–1149)

While Lux rescues Aurora, Rhiannon endures an eighteen-hour labor and gives birth to Dia. Lux returns with Aurora soon afterward, allowing mother, daughter, and newborn sister to meet in the same room. Rhiannon identifies Aurora’s reborn nature as a Transcendent Succubus, recognizes that the curse of misfortune is gone, and explains what Aurora needs to stabilize her mind and power. She also lets Antero leave to clear Lux’s route, trusting the ancient Golem’s judgment even while recovering. When Lux departs again, Rhiannon’s warning that Aurora must not die a second time expresses the responsibility she once failed to fulfill. (Chapters 1162–1168)

That new family is threatened when Daniel breaches the seal for the Pillar of Eternity inside Dia. Still weakened after birth and temporarily at peak Calamity rather than her normal Demigod state, Rhiannon fails to detect the stealth specialist who takes her baby. She prepares to burn her life force, then heeds a mysterious warning and stops Antero’s suicidal escalation. Rhiannon allows Daniel to extract the Pillar only under threat of vengeance if Dia suffers, personally retrieves her unharmed child afterward, and retreats rather than prolong a battle that could destroy both her daughter and the Thirteenth Layer. Open Heaven’s Gate

After the war, Rhiannon crosses the newly connected Bifrost Bridge with Dia and allows Lux’s partners to meet his first child. Their suspicion fades as Rhiannon lets them hold and care for the baby, while she privately resolves to be a better mother than she was to Aurora. She neither renounces the Abyss nor abandons her subjects: Antero continues stabilizing the leaderless Layers, and the bridge gives Rhiannon a route between the Thirteenth Layer and Heaven’s Gate. The new arrangement turns a ruler once trapped by responsibility into a mother able to maintain both homes. (Chapter 1225)

Rhiannon also becomes an advocate within Lux’s family. She apologizes to Henrietta for manipulating her in the Abyss, helps Anastasia encourage Henrietta to acknowledge her feelings, and deliberately lets their conversation reach Lux. Having already chosen to raise Dia with him, Rhiannon accepts his proposal to settle down and marry alongside Aurora and the other partners. Antero escorts her to the altar in human form, and two years later Rhiannon lives as Lux’s wife while raising their nearly three-year-old daughter. Her continuing place on Fridays with Aurora reflects reconciliation rather than rivalry between mother and daughter. (Chapters 1227–1228, 1232–1233)

Appearance and personality

Rhiannon is repeatedly described as a peerless beauty with striking purple eyes and a strong resemblance to Aurora. Her ordinary Succubus clothing is deliberately revealing. In combat, a black heart-shaped crest with four bat-like wings appears on her lower abdomen, an eye-like crest manifests on her forehead, six bat wings grow from her back, and dark crimson dragon-scale armor replaces the lighter clothing. Later pregnancy gives her a visibly swollen abdomen, while postwar scenes continue to present an adult beauty whose appearance contrasts with the infant she carries. She is proud, perceptive, teasing, and prepared to be cruel when control seems safer than trust. Her treatment of captives and attempted remaking of Cai reveal a willingness to violate others in the name of a lesson learned from her own betrayal. Yet she is fiercely protective of the Succubi and bargains away pride, true-name security, and military advantage to keep them from slavery or death. Trust in Lux, renewed concern for Aurora, and love for Dia do not erase her sharp tongue or dominance; they redirect those traits toward family, negotiation, and protection rather than proving that her earlier victims were justified costs. Succubus and Demigod abilities

Rhiannon’s normal stable rank is Demigod, superior to Calamity-class monsters and supported by centuries of Abyssal combat. Taking the Twelfth Layer’s Core increases her authority and brings her near the peak of Demigod strength, but the corpus does not state a new rank beyond Demigod. Pregnancy redirects much of that power into Dia, and immediately after childbirth Rhiannon is only at peak Calamity while recovering. This is a reversible suppression rather than a loss of her formal advancement; by the after-story she is again described among the strongest Demigods. Charm, possession, and mental intrusion

Rhiannon’s Epic Charm is one step below Divine rank and can impose detailed behavioral commands on multiple Rankers, including prohibiting suicide. She can possess Cai through an eye-shaped mark, act through the host’s body, enter the host’s spiritual world, inspect memories, and peer into Lux’s memories while he sleeps. These abilities are powerful but not absolute. Dragon Born possess racial resistance, strong targets may resist or require setup, and possession inside Cai’s spiritual domain leaves Rhiannon vulnerable when Cai regains control. A true-name command can bind her as well, though the accompanying soul contract destroys Cai’s soul if she exceeds the agreed conditions. (Chapters 874, 877, 892–898, 910)

Demigod magic and regeneration

Her magical arsenal includes purple barriers, homing rays and orbs, instantaneous movement, poisoned daggers, and Nether Flare, a rain of hellish crimson fire powerful enough to threaten an entire battlefield. High mana regeneration lets her continue firing Demigod-grade low-level spells after losing most of her reserve. The rescue coalition demonstrates practical counters: Shield Breaker cracks her barrier, repeated Mana Drain removes fifty-five percent of her maximum mana in one sequence and prevents repeated high-cost spells, Field of Light lowers her performance, and Antero’s manifested hands can block Nether Flare. Her garment and body regenerate shallow injuries, but soul-targeting attacks and concentrated Demigod-level force still hurt her. (Chapters 886–889)

Battle Maiden form and ethereal movement

Activating the heart crest changes Rhiannon from a magic-centered Succubus into a close-combat Battle Maiden. Crimson dragon-scale armor greatly increases defense, her physical strength rises enough to trade blows with Lilian, and she retains exceptional speed. She can alternate between forms of Ethereal Jaunt that nullify magical or ordinary physical attacks, then rematerialize to strike. The form involves a tactical exchange rather than a free increase to every statistic: Lux and Gaap conclude that she reverses magical intelligence with strength, making her strongest spells less central, and ethereal or soul-based attacks can still reach her across the phase boundary. Celestial Maiden Physique and essence transfer

The Celestial Maiden Physique lets Rhiannon absorb another person’s essence into her own cultivation or deliberately transfer strength through intimacy. Her betrayer used the same compatibility to drain her and reach Calamity; she later killed him and absorbed his essence to reach Demigod. With Lux and Cai, Rhiannon develops a controlled exchange that raises Lux to C-Rank and restores Cai to Ranker without forcing Rhiannon’s own rank to regress. The method still moves measurable strength, can leave participants exhausted, and depends on physical and spiritual compatibility; later transfers cost Rhiannon some power even when Lux’s unusually potent life essence makes the exchange worthwhile. Abyssal authority, contracts, and tracking

As Overlord of the Thirteenth and Twelfth Layers, Rhiannon commands Succubi, appoints administrators, controls territorial Cores, and can negotiate soul contracts whose penalties enforce exact terms. Her true name grants dangerous authority over her, so she protects it with memory erasure and reciprocal destruction clauses. She also marks Aurora’s soul with her blood, later creating a pendant that detects the correct rebirth Layer and manifests a guiding red thread. These powers require territorial authority, prior connection, or a formal medium; she cannot simply locate any soul anywhere, and Antero rather than Rhiannon performs the near-indestructible sealing of the Layer’s portals. Power progression

Rhiannon’s recorded progression is a backstory sequence rather than a promotion witnessed in the present-day campaign. Her later acquisition of the Twelfth Layer increases strength and influence within Demigod, while pregnancy and postpartum recovery temporarily suppress her output; neither event supplies a new formal rank. • Lux: Rhiannon first tries to use Lux to reshape Cai and treats him as a source of power. His determination to rescue Cai, willingness to honor negotiated conditions, and promise to save Aurora challenge her distrust.
