Hou Fei

Hou Fei is a Fiery-eyed Aquatic Monkey, Qin Yu's second sworn brother, and Hei Yu's combative counterpart. Raised in Jiang Lan's ravine, he develops from a restless divine beast eager for any fight into a disciplined stick practitioner trained by the Asura Godking. His blunt humor and appetite for battle remain constant, but his choices increasingly center on protecting his brothers, their household, and the family he eventually builds with Zi Xia and Hong Yun.

Biography

Leaving Jiang Lan's ravine

Hou Fei first meets Qin Yu in the hidden underwater ravine where Jiang Lan has raised him. Already a middle Yuanying-stage divine beast, he is frustrated by the lack of opponents willing to spar and introduces himself by boasting that he is stronger than the wounded newcomer. His unruliness is real, but so is his attachment to the small household: he obeys Jiang Lan's rebuke, calls Jiang Li his elder sister, and treats the ravine's rules as restraints imposed by people whose judgment he nevertheless trusts. (Chapters 112–114)

Three years of sparring turn Qin Yu from a convenient opponent into the “big brother” Hou Fei actively wants to follow. When Qin Yu prepares to return to the dangerous underwater world, Hou Fei argues that Hei Yu is already outside and pleads for the same freedom. Qin Yu supports him on the grounds that experience is necessary for growth, while Jiang Lan allows the departure only after warning Hou Fei not to enter berserk mode except in a crisis. The exchange establishes the balance that shapes him: he craves danger, yet accepts guidance when it comes from family. (Chapters 113–116)

Freedom initially brings out Hou Fei's least restrained instincts. He absorbs a whale's blood essence, delights in being beyond the ravine's prohibition on killing, and has to be reminded that exposing his divine-beast identity could make stronger experts eliminate him as a future threat. He agrees to hide his real power and follows Qin Yu into Blood-red Cave territory. Although he enjoys the prospect of status and combat, his first political loyalty is already personal: when Cave officials belittle Qin Yu, Hou Fei is prepared to abandon the guardian position rather than accept an arrangement that separates his own standing from his brother's dignity. (Chapters 116–127)

Blood-red Cave and Stellar Tower

As a Blood-red Cave guardian, Hou Fei gives Qin Yu both protection and room to maneuver. Other guardians hesitate to expose or challenge Qin Yu because they fear Hou Fei's strength, while Hou Fei kills Sang Mo when Qin Yu identifies him as an immediate threat. His temper brings him into open confrontation with Cha Hong and Cha Po, but it also becomes part of Qin Yu's strategy: Hou Fei can compel attention with direct force while Qin Yu investigates Cha Hong's secrets and prepares to seize the cave. Once Qin Yu acts, Hou Fei supports the takeover and accepts the vice-master role rather than seeking leadership for himself. (Chapters 117–138)

The Nine Demons Hall's retaliation tests the cost of that loyalty. Hou Fei fights the Di brothers and refuses to withdraw when Qin Yu is endangered, entering berserk mode and then forcing a second transformation his current level should not safely sustain. In the silver-haired, golden-eyed form he disables several brothers with speed and stick power far above his ordinary state. The decision saves Qin Yu from immediate pressure but leaves Hou Fei unable even to raise a hand once the transformation ends. Jiang Lan's intervention prevents stronger onlookers from killing him, making the episode both a victory of devotion and a warning that fury can spend his body faster than courage can protect it. (Chapters 148–156)

After Qin Yu establishes Stellar Tower, Hou Fei becomes its second master and treats its enemies as threats to a shared home rather than merely opportunities to fight. He returns with Qin Yu to the Qian Long Continent, passes his own 6-in-9 tribulation, and joins the effort to contain the surviving Di brother's revenge. During Qin Yu's tribulation, Hou Fei's failure to stop Di Nai's escaping, burning yuanying fills him with guilt because he had guaranteed Qin Yu's safety. Qin Yu survives, but the incident teaches Hou Fei that overwhelming a body with one stick is not the same as controlling every consequence of a battle. (Chapters 157–191)

Tribulation, mortal-realm war, and ascension

Hou Fei and Hei Yu later train under Jiang Lan's direction and face their 9-in-9 heavenly tribulations. Both survive only after severe danger, relying on Jiang Lan's prior instructions and the unusual weapons he gave them. Hou Fei reports the success to Qin Yu with his usual exuberance, but his description does not pretend it was easy. When the three reunite, Hou Fei has gained a human form, a hereditary movement technique, and enough perspective to warn Qin Yu that the same tribulation can destroy even exceptionally gifted divine beasts. His excitement at reunion therefore coexists with a more sober understanding of inherited talent's limits. (Chapters 233–242)

In the loose-immortal and loose-devil treasure war, Hou Fei fights beside Qin Yu and Hei Yu as part of a practiced three-person unit. His stick can shatter a low-grade immortal weapon, and his speed lets him kill powerful loose practitioners at close range, but formations and coordinated long-range attacks can still pin him down. When more than ten opponents contain him, he follows Qin Yu's order to enter the Qingyu Immortal Mansion rather than treating retreat as cowardice. He later helps strike the exposed Yinyue Palace and Mount Qingxu forces, directing his appetite for battle toward Qin Yu's effort to answer the massacre of the Qin clan. (Chapters 243–255)

Hou Fei joins the Ni Yang's Realm expedition while his transformed demon energy is already drawing him toward ascension. His flowing-water field and fiery eyes help detect dangerous wind blades, though their coverage is too narrow to make the spatial hazards safe. Near the Blue Clouds Road, he and Hei Yu accept Qin Yu's advice not to risk their lives in a final trial when only a short time remains before they must leave the mortal realm. That decision is a marked change from the monkey who once sought any available opponent: preserving the brotherhood's future matters more than proving courage in a challenge with no necessary reward. (Chapters 258–310)

Reunion in the Demon Realm

In the Demon Realm, Hou Fei becomes the designated successor associated with Great Ape Emperor Sun Yuan, but rank does not replace his search for his brothers. Qin Yu finds him training against the inherited Heaven Startling Thirty Six Stick Strikes; Hou Fei has mastered thirty-five movements and repeatedly fails at the final overlapping-wave attack. His response is persistence rather than embarrassment. Once he reunites with Qin Yu, the two turn immediately to finding Hei Yu, showing that advancement and imperial sponsorship have not displaced the relationship by which Hou Fei defines himself. (Chapters 383–398)

The reunion with Hei Yu brings Hou Fei into a settled family circle inside Jiang Lan's Realm. He trains there for a thousand outside years while Hei Yu lives with Bai Ling and Hei Tong, then supports the attempt to recover Bai Xin from the Peng Demon Emperor's domain. Hou Fei lets Qin Yu decide whether the group should leave safety, not because he lacks eagerness but because the rescue exposes Hei Yu's whole family to imperial retaliation. In the ensuing confrontation he fights level-eight Demon Emperors and helps shield Hei Yu from the despair caused by revelations about his murdered parents. (Chapters 398–415)

Continued time-accelerated training refines the aggression that once depended on berserk transformation. Hou Fei develops the Heaven Startling stick sequence, spars constantly with Hei Yu, and reaches combat power comparable to a level-nine Emperor while the brothers' enemies watch their growth with increasing fear. His rivalry with Hei Yu remains noisy and physical, but it is also productive: Hei Yu derives much of his spear path from Hou Fei's stick technique, while each forces the other to improve. By the time Qin Yu begins his ninth stellar stage, Hou Fei is no longer merely a naturally powerful divine beast; he is an expert whose repeated practice has made his inherited path deliberate. (Chapters 413–427)

The single stick strike and separation in the Divine Realm

When Qin Yu enters the Dark Star Realm, Hou Fei stays inside Jiang Lan's Realm because he cannot safely imitate a Dark Star practitioner. He resents the separation but accepts Hei Yu's argument that the realm's tenfold time difference gives them a chance to catch their faster-advancing elder brother. Training does not silence a deeper uncertainty. Hei Yu's knowledge of his murdered parents leads Hou Fei to admit that he does not know whether his own parents are alive or who they are; Jiang Lan raised him but offered little instruction or explanation about his birth. The confession reveals vulnerability beneath his habitual boasting. (Chapters 428–470)

Hou Fei first masters the Heaven Startling Three Stick Strikes and believes they place him near the Great Ape Emperor's level. Qin Yu's return gives him a sharper standard. After comprehending spatial laws, Qin Yu evades Hou Fei's attacks and walks him through the sequence from seventy-two strikes to the single strike, explaining that the stick path has entered the Dao but that Hou Fei uses its spatial principle without fully understanding it. Hou Fei is frustrated by being surpassed, yet he treats the demonstration as instruction. He eventually condenses the path into the Heaven Startling Single Stick Strike instead of defending his earlier achievement as complete. (Chapters 447–488)

The three brothers choose to undergo their Divine Tribulation together, causing the ancient formation to produce eighty-one dark-blue lightning bolts of amplified quality. Hou Fei immediately offers to take the first great attack with his newly mastered single strike, accepting that it may injure him so the brothers can share the later burden. They survive and ascend together, only for the monkey-clan senior Sun Lian to demand Hou Fei as a disciple. Hou Fei invokes Jiang Lan as his existing master and resists being separated, but the senior immobilizes him and carries him toward the Asura Sea, turning advancement into another involuntary parting. (Chapters 487–504)

Asura training and Purple Mystic Mansion

At the Asura Sea, Sun Lian transfers Hou Fei to the Asura Godking Luo Fan. Luo Fan creates a space accelerated ten thousand times and personally trains him for nearly a hundred million internal years. Hou Fei later learns only that his new master undertook this enormous effort because someone powerful had requested it and will explain the patron's identity after Hou Fei reaches the Godking level. The arrangement gives Hou Fei the sustained instruction Jiang Lan never provided, but it also turns the mystery of his origins into a goal his own cultivation must eventually unlock. (Chapters 504–574)

Hou Fei returns publicly behind Luo Fan during Floating Snow City's groom search. He makes signals to Qin Yu from the Asura party, worries about the gifts being judged, and reunites with both brothers without treating his powerful new affiliation as a competing loyalty. Qin Yu later crafts him a replacement stick infused with Dark and Yellow Energy. Hou Fei's delighted naming of the Dark Cyan Single Aura Stick reflects both continuity and change: it preserves the weapon discipline Jiang Lan began while applying “Burst” and “Extreme Weight” effects suitable for the strength developed under Luo Fan. (Chapters 573–592)

When Qin Yu rejects Jiang Fan's groom-search decision and establishes Purple Mystic Mansion, Hou Fei joins the independent household. He accepts Jiang Lan's protection, reconnects with Hei Yu's family, and stands behind Qin Yu during the confrontation with Floating Snow City's authority. Later he urges the brothers to establish a Divine Realm base equal to the sacred lands and ascender powers, counting his own and Hei Yu's combined strength as part of its foundation. The ambition is characteristically grand, but it is no longer personal glory: Hou Fei wants a durable territory in which their extended family does not depend on another ruler's permission. (Chapters 599–623)

Zi Xia, Hong Yun, and the truth of his parentage

Hou Fei eventually leaves the New Cosmos for the Divine Realm and becomes attached to Zi Xia, with Hong Yun repeatedly remaining beside them. His brothers initially observe the romance with amusement because Hou Fei, usually direct in combat, follows the two women through a more uncertain personal conflict. He promises to return when duty calls him away and continues seeking them rather than dismissing affection as a distraction. The relationship broadens the family he must consider: for the first time, his choices are shaped not only by sworn brotherhood and mentorship but by the wishes and vulnerability of partners outside Qin Yu's established household. (Chapters 629–649)

The Blood Sea Queen's claim over Zi Xia and Hong Yun forces Hou Fei to test that commitment against an opponent he cannot overpower. He remains in place when blood slaves are ordered to capture him and refuses to accept that Zi Xia should die for violating palace commands, even after the Queen offers to spare him personally. Invoking Qin Yu's name does not resolve the imbalance, and Qin Yu ultimately intervenes. Hou Fei's dependence on his elder brother is explicit, but so is his own decision: he risks capture before he knows rescue will come because leaving the women would contradict the loyalty he demands of himself. (Chapters 649–653)

Zi Xia becomes Hou Fei's wife, and he later also marries Hong Yun after years of conflict between affection and rivalry. Their children draw the Unfettered Exalted Celestial repeatedly to Purple Mystic Mansion, and Luo Fan finally reveals that this Exalted Celestial arranged Hou Fei's instruction. The corpus ultimately identifies him as Hou Fei's father, resolving the absence Hou Fei admitted while training in Jiang Lan's Realm. At the final confrontation, Hou Fei remains beside Qin Yu and Hei Yu; the discovered lineage gives him immense protection, but his anxious cry when Hei Yu is threatened shows that old brotherhood, not newfound status, still governs his immediate loyalties. (Chapters 653–680)

Appearance and personality

Hou Fei is a monkey divine beast with fiery golden eyes and a naturally powerful body. His ordinary early form is compact enough to wield a long black stick at speed, while one transformation makes him a gigantic ape. The dangerous second berserk transformation returns him to human height with silver hair, golden eyes, and violet lips while concentrating still greater strength and speed. In the upper realms he also assumes a human form and wears robes, but his eyes, exuberant movement, and habit of scratching or rubbing his head preserve the identity others recognize as “Monkey.” (Chapters 112–127, 148–156, 414–447)

He is boisterous, proud, blunt, mischievous, and transparently fond of combat. Hou Fei boasts even to family members who know his limits, insults rulers who expect deference, and often responds to complicated threats by proposing a direct fight. This surface simplicity is not stupidity: he recognizes traps, analyzes formation dangers, understands when Qin Yu is provoking a wider conflict, and can obey a retreat. His maturity appears not as quietness but as better direction of the same intensity—away from proving himself in every encounter and toward protecting people whose safety matters more than his pride. (Chapters 112–191, 233–310, 383–680)

His affection is equally undisguised. Hou Fei calls Qin Yu “big brother,” needles Hei Yu as “Mixed Hair Bird,” treats Jiang Li as an older sister, and takes his place as second uncle within Hei Yu's household. Unknown parentage creates one of his rare periods of open grief, which explains why the later revelation about the Unfettered Exalted Celestial matters even though it does not replace his chosen family. With Zi Xia and Hong Yun, his protective loyalty extends beyond the sworn-brother structure and develops into marriage and fatherhood without making him less exuberant or combative. (Chapters 113–116, 383–470, 629–680)

Abilities and cultivation

Hou Fei's combat system combines the innate body and hereditary memories of a Fiery-eyed Aquatic Monkey with a progressive stick path. His greatest attacks depend on both trained force and a weapon: Jiang Lan's original black stick supports his lower-realm rise, while Qin Yu's Dark Cyan Single Aura Stick multiplies his later strength. His development is therefore neither purely inherited nor purely item-derived; natural power gives him exceptional capacity, but repeated training and increasingly suitable weapons determine how effectively he can concentrate it.

Fiery-eyed Aquatic Monkey body

As a Fiery-eyed Aquatic Monkey, Hou Fei is a super divine beast whose body is stronger than ordinary cultivators at the same nominal stage. He combines water and fire attributes, controls surrounding water, absorbs blood essence, and receives hereditary memories that supply movement and cultivation knowledge. His fiery eyes aid direct observation, while a field of flowing water lets him sense disturbances approaching through the area it covers. The Ni Yang expedition demonstrates the field's limit: its radius is smaller than stronger experts' detection methods, leaving little reaction time against fast wind blades and no protection from spatial cracks. (Chapters 112–127, 241–289)

Hou Fei can use water and his fur to form Water Elemental Battle Armor. The protection is useful enough that Qin Yu initially prioritizes new defensive clothing for him, but it is weaker than Hei Yu's feather-derived armor and does not make Hou Fei safe from coordinated experts or upper-realm power. His innate strength, speed, and transformation let him dominate ordinary opponents in close combat, while his hereditary movement technique makes him comparable to Qin Yu's full flight speed after the 9-in-9 tribulation. Against formations, long-range attacks, or opponents several major levels above him, however, he still needs retreat, allies, or a protected realm. (Chapters 148–156, 233–249, 283–290)

Berserk transformations

Berserk mode amplifies Hou Fei's physical strength, speed, and aggression beyond his already exceptional divine-beast state. Against the Di brothers, he first becomes a giant ape and then forces a second transformation into the concentrated silver-haired form when he sees Qin Yu risking his life. The second state lets him break powerful restraints, disable multiple Purple Demon aquatic dragons, and move faster than Qin Yu's then-current maximum. The activation is tied to extreme fury in that early use rather than calm control, making devotion an effective trigger but also a tactical vulnerability. (Chapters 148–156)

The transformation's cost is severe at Hou Fei's early level. His hereditary memory indicates ordinary berserk mode should cause pain in bones and muscles without a fixed time limit, but the second transformation is beyond what he can properly sustain. It ends abruptly and leaves him unable to lift a hand, exposed to enemies he could threaten moments before. Jiang Lan had warned him not to use the state outside a critical situation for precisely this reason. Later cultivation emphasizes Heaven Startling stick techniques and stable body strength rather than presenting the exhausting second transformation as an unlimited answer to stronger opponents. (Chapters 115–116, 148–156, 383–504)

Cultivation and divine-beast inheritance

Hou Fei advances from middle Yuanying stage through heavenly tribulations and Demon Emperor levels at a pace characteristic of his rare bloodline. His 6-in-9 tribulation is manageable, but the 9-in-9 trial nearly defeats him and Hei Yu despite their gifts; Jiang Lan's instructions and their unusual weapons are decisive. After that tribulation, Hou Fei can take human form and use a hereditary movement art. Association with Great Ape Emperor Sun Yuan gives him an imperial succession path in the Demon Realm, though the corpus grounds his actual growth in practice rather than treating designation as an automatic transfer of power. (Chapters 112–191, 233–290, 383–427)

Time acceleration drives his later progression. He trains for thousands of effective years within Jiang Lan's Realm, reaches the threshold of level-nine Demon Emperor, and deliberately suppresses advancement while waiting for Qin Yu. After the shared Divine Tribulation, Luo Fan gives him nearly a hundred million internal years of direct instruction in a space accelerated ten thousandfold. The latest chapters continue to present him as an elite close-range combatant, but not as a Godking; Luo Fan explicitly withholds the final explanation of his parentage until that future threshold, preserving a clear limit on Hou Fei's established cultivation state. (Chapters 390–504, 573–680)

Heaven Startling stick path

The Heaven Startling path compresses long combinations into progressively more concentrated attacks: seventy-two, thirty-six, eighteen, nine, three, and finally one stick strike. Hou Fei's early obstacle is the last of the Thirty Six Stick Strikes, an overlapping-wave movement he repeatedly fails despite mastering the preceding thirty-five. By the time Qin Yu returns from spatial-law comprehension, Hou Fei has reached the Three Stick Strikes. Qin Yu explains and demonstrates that the sequence embodies limited spatial law; Hou Fei knows how the forms produce power before he fully understands why, which allows great force but leaves the attacks readable to someone with deeper spatial comprehension. (Chapters 383–390, 447–448)

Hou Fei later masters the Heaven Startling Single Stick Strike. The condensed attack focuses the sequence's force into one action rather than distributing it across a prolonged exchange, making it suitable for meeting a massive incoming attack head-on. During the shared Divine Tribulation, he proposes using it against the first array of eighty-one lightning bolts and accepts the likelihood of injury. This shows both application and limit: the technique can concentrate enough force to contest amplified divine lightning, but it does not erase the wielder's durability threshold or the need for Hei Yu and Qin Yu to share the tribulation's remaining burden. (Chapters 447–488)

Black Stick and Dark Cyan Single Aura Stick

Jiang Lan's Black Stick is the original medium for Hou Fei's path. Its material is exceptionally hard, surviving clashes with immortal weapons and letting Hou Fei shatter a low-grade immortal weapon through raw close-range force. It reinforces the Heaven Startling techniques but does not create his comprehension; the same forms can be taught, adapted into Hei Yu's spear work, and demonstrated by Qin Yu with an ordinary metal stick protected by energy. The weapon's practical limit is therefore its wielder's force and understanding, even when its own durability exceeds the equipment around it. (Chapters 113–181, 241–300, 383–488)

Qin Yu later crafts the cyan-black replacement that Hou Fei names the Dark Cyan Single Aura Stick. Its “Burst” and “Extreme Weight” properties directly suit his preference for concentrated physical attacks, and absorbed Dark and Yellow Energy raises its power to a level comparable with a first-rate Grandmist Spiritual Treasure. It can rip space and multiply Hou Fei's attack power, but those are explicitly equipment-derived advantages layered onto his trained stick path. Hou Fei continues wielding it when Purple Mystic Mansion confines hostile Godkings, giving the latest chapters a clear source-grounded state: elite mastery armed with an extraordinary weapon, not unexplained Godking authority. (Chapters 592–680)

Relationships

  • Qin Yu: Qin Yu begins as Hou Fei's sparring partner and becomes his sworn elder brother. Hou Fei supplies direct force and emotional loyalty, while Qin Yu repeatedly gives him freedom, refuge, technical instruction, and crafted equipment. Even after Asura Sea training, Hou Fei chooses Qin Yu's household as home.
  • Hei Yu: Hei Yu is Hou Fei's younger sworn brother, rival, and principal training partner. Their insults and competitions conceal absolute trust; Hou Fei helps search for him, protects his family, and remains emotionally shaken when Hei Yu is endangered in the final confrontation.
  • Jiang Lan: Jiang Lan raises Hou Fei in the ravine and is the first person Hou Fei calls master. He gives Hou Fei the original black stick and vital tribulation instructions, though both later acknowledge that he offered little direct cultivation teaching.
  • Luo Fan: The Asura Godking becomes Hou Fei's sustained upper-realm instructor, providing nearly a hundred million accelerated years of training at another person's request. Their master-disciple relationship later leads Qin Yu to spare Luo Fan after trapping the hostile Godkings.
  • Sun Yuan: The Great Ape Emperor recognizes Hou Fei as a successor within the Demon Realm's monkey-and-ape lineage, giving powerful factions a reason to hesitate before killing him while he is still below their own rulers' level.
  • Jiang Li: Hou Fei treats Li'er as an older sister from their life in the ravine onward. His fury when Jiang Fan addresses her harshly after being trapped in the New Cosmos shows that the kinship remains active rather than ceremonial.
  • Zi Xia and Hong Yun: Hou Fei follows, protects, and eventually marries both women. Their conflict with the Blood Sea Queen forces him to risk himself in a relationship not founded on combat or sworn brotherhood, and their children make him a father.
  • Unfettered Exalted Celestial: He secretly arranges Luo Fan's instruction of Hou Fei and is ultimately identified as Hou Fei's father. The revelation answers Hou Fei's long uncertainty about his birth without replacing the family he formed before learning it.

Items

  • Black Stick: Jiang Lan's original weapon is exceptionally hard and supports Hou Fei's rise through the Heaven Startling forms. Qin Yu later creates the Dark Cyan Single Aura Stick as its upper-realm successor, adding “Burst,” “Extreme Weight,” and Dark and Yellow Energy to a weapon comparable with a first-rate Grandmist Spiritual Treasure.
  • Jiang Lan's Realm: Hou Fei uses the realm as refuge, household, and time-accelerated training ground. Its protection lets him survive imperial pursuit and spend far longer refining his cultivation and stick path than the outside chronology alone would allow.
