Sun Yuan

Sun Yuan, the Great Ape Emperor, is the senior super divine beast of the Ape and Monkey Clan and Hou Fei's mentor and intended predecessor. He protects Hou Fei as the clan's future leader, exposes him to the Inherited Prohibited Area's battle-based cultivation, and lends his own standing and armor so that Hou Fei can safely pursue Qin Yu and Hei Yu.

Biography

Guarding the clan's future

Sun Yuan intervenes when the newly ascended Hou Fei tries to enter Bird-Clan territory as a Demon King, forcibly bringing him back rather than allowing the Ape and Monkey Clan's only other super divine beast to gamble his life. He then places Hou Fei in the Inherited Prohibited Area, where repeated life-and-death battles replace ordinary cultivation. The decision is severe—Hou Fei suffers serious injuries almost daily—but it advances him from level-six Demon King to roughly level-two or level-three Demon Emperor in only sixty outside years. (Chapters 383–389)

When Qin Yu seeks Hou Fei, Sun Yuan extends lineage privilege through their brotherhood and authorizes Qin Yu to enter the otherwise restricted grounds. He personally summons Heart Clearing Wind to carry Qin Yu and the Ox Demon Emperor through the surrounding Cosmic Fragmentary Golden Stream, then explains that outsiders face opponents equal to their own strength and are overwhelmingly likely to die. Sun Yuan does not forbid Qin Yu's choice, but insists that he understand the trial's unequal defense, perfected stick skill, and inability to rely on spiritual beasts. (Chapters 387–389)

A mentor's mistake and parting gift

Sun Yuan's guidance is imperfect. He forgets to warn Qin Yu that Divine Armor cannot be used inside the trial, exposing him to a danger beyond the already brutal conditions. When Qin Yu survives and Hou Fei challenges the omission, Sun Yuan does not hide behind his title; he admits his carelessness and apologizes directly. Qin Yu accepts because the mistake fits Sun Yuan's blunt, inattentive temperament rather than a plot, repairing trust between the Great Ape Emperor and the brothers. (Chapters 389–392)

Once Hou Fei completes the second stick technique and reaches level-three Demon Emperor, Sun Yuan accepts that he is strong enough to search Bird-Clan territory. He removes the blood contract from Golden Abyss, his own Divine Armor, and gives it to Hou Fei because future leadership matters more than his personal equipment. Sun Yuan knows he remains formidable without armor, whereas many Demon Emperors could still kill Hou Fei. The gift converts mentorship into succession: Hou Fei leaves not merely as a talented junior but as the publicly protected future Great Ape Emperor. (Chapter 392)

Political protection beyond training

Sun Yuan's deterrence follows Hou Fei even when he is absent. Emperor Yu and Mystic Emperor avoid treating Hou Fei as an ordinary target because killing him could bring the Great Ape Emperor's retaliation, while Bird-Clan experts recognize Golden Abyss and hesitate to use lethal force. Hou Fei also carries Sun Yuan's instruction into later confrontations, explaining the Dragon and Peng Emperors' inherited strengths and weaknesses through lessons learned during their time together. The mentor's influence therefore shapes both Hou Fei's survival and his judgment after their separation. (Chapters 392–411)

At the Cyan Emperor's Divine Tribulation, Sun Yuan appears beside the other Demon Realm rulers and openly challenges the Peng Demon Emperor when the latter confronts Hou Fei and Hei Yu. He frames Hou Fei as the Ape and Monkey Clan's next chief, making any attack a political assault on the clan rather than a private vendetta. With the Dragon Emperor also present, the Peng Demon Emperor backs down. Sun Yuan's final material act is thus consistent with his first: he uses authority to keep Hou Fei alive until the younger ape can inherit that authority himself. (Chapters 420–424)

Appearance and personality

Sun Yuan is shorter than Qin Yu and appears thin and slight, but radiates a domineering aura stronger than the physically larger Ox Demon Emperor's. He is battle-loving, proud of the Inherited Prohibited Area, blunt in judgment, and sufficiently restless that he rarely administers ordinary affairs. His harsh standards treat survivable injury as part of a super divine beast's education, yet he is not indifferent to responsibility: he stays near Hou Fei's trial, apologizes for a dangerous omission, gives away his own armor, and publicly shields his successor. (Chapters 383–392, 421)

Abilities and cultivation

Battle comprehension and the Heaven Startling Stick Canon

Sun Yuan is a level-eight Demon Emperor super divine beast whose clan converts combat experience directly into cultivation and attack power. He has completed three entries into the Inherited Prohibited Area and mastered the Heaven Startling Three Stick Strikes, the fifth of six escalating stick techniques. The fourth technique can already topple ordinary level-nine Immortal Emperors, while the fifth brings him near the Dragon and Peng Emperors despite their inherited treasures. His power comes from comprehension expressed through the long stick, not an external clan treasure. (Chapters 386–392)

The sixth technique, the Heaven Startling Single Stick Strike, remains beyond him. Only one Great Ape Emperor across the clan's long history has mastered it, establishing a clear ceiling on Sun Yuan's otherwise exceptional attack. His balance is also relative rather than absolute: his defense is below the Dragon Emperor's and his bodily speed below the Peng Demon Emperor's, though his stick method compensates well enough that neither weakness is easy to exploit. Combined inherited-treasure power can still slightly exceed him. (Chapters 386, 392, 408)

Inherited Prohibited Area authority

As Great Ape Emperor, Sun Yuan can summon and control the Heart Clearing Wind that safely traverses the local Cosmic Fragmentary Golden Stream. That protection is location-specific: the stream surrounding the clan's prohibited area does not attack him, but other Cosmic Fragmentary Golden Streams would still kill him. He can admit outsiders, explain the trial structure, and escort them to its boundary, but he cannot override its rules or retrieve Hou Fei after using all three of his own lifetime entries. (Chapters 387–389)

Golden Abyss and demonstrated limits

Golden Abyss is Sun Yuan's Divine Armor until he voluntarily removes its blood contract and transfers it to Hou Fei. The armor substantially reduces the number of Emperor-level enemies capable of threatening its wearer, but Sun Yuan's confidence without it rests on his stick comprehension rather than immunity. He does not claim that no one can harm him; the Dragon and Peng Emperors' inherited treasures remain comparable threats, and the supplied chapters show deterrence and reputation more often than a direct full-power battle among the three rulers. (Chapters 392, 403–424)

Relationships

  • Hou Fei: His student, fellow super divine beast, and intended successor. Sun Yuan restrains his reckless search, accelerates his growth through combat, grants him Golden Abyss, and protects his political status as the next clan leader.
  • Qin Yu: Hou Fei's brother and an outsider whom Sun Yuan admits to the clan's prohibited area. A dangerous omission strains their trust, but Sun Yuan's apology and sacrifice for Hou Fei resolve the conflict.
  • Hei Yu: Hou Fei's brother and beneficiary of Sun Yuan's intervention when the Peng Demon Emperor confronts the younger generation at the Cyan Emperor's tribulation.
  • Ox Demon Emperor: A peer and friend within the Beast Clan who helps visitors locate Sun Yuan, discusses the prohibited area with him, and accompanies Qin Yu to meet Hou Fei.
  • Peng Demon Emperor: A rival Demon Realm ruler. Their different advantages make them comparable overall, and Sun Yuan's presence is sufficient to deter an attack on Hou Fei and Hei Yu.
  • Dragon Emperor: The third major Demon Realm ruler and another near-peer, whose inherited treasure grants greater defense while Sun Yuan possesses superior unarmed and stick-based battle comprehension.

Items

  • Inherited Prohibited Area: The Ape and Monkey Clan's battle-training ground, administered but not freely controlled by Sun Yuan. Its repeated trials develop both him and Hou Fei while imposing strict entry counts and lethal conditions.
  • Golden Abyss: Sun Yuan's Divine Armor, transferred to Hou Fei as protection and a practical investment in the future Great Ape Emperor.
