Mercy

Mercy of Clan Dagonet is a young Legacy Master and the long-suffering companion of Tristan of Aegis Rose. He repeatedly tries to restrain Tristan's provocations, witnesses the humiliating duel with Sunny, fights beside him through the Domain War's final catastrophe, and survives into the postwar peace. (Chapters 1703–1704, 2249, and 2294)

Biography

Companion to Tristan

Mercy accompanies Tristan when the arrogant Legacy insults Sunny and challenges him to a duel. He initially tries to pull his friend away, then appears relieved when Sunny claims to lack a Memory weapon and suggests dropping the dispute. Tristan ignores him, lends Sunny a family sword, and loses a first-blood contest through a punch to the nose before charging over a parapet. Mercy retrieves the sword, apologizes, and hurries away to obtain help. (Chapters 1703–1704)

During the Domain War's final battle, Mercy and the injured Tristan end up defending the same patch of ground as Ray and Fleur. Mercy pulls Tristan away from a Nightmare Creature and questions his concussed claim that the humble shopkeeper was secretly the Lord of Shadows. When a Great abomination appears, the four are saved by a monstrous cottage that shelters wounded soldiers, allowing Mercy to survive the otherwise hopeless encounter. (Chapter 2249)

After the war, Mercy joins Tristan in approaching Rain, Tamar, and Telle during an outing. He lets Tristan deliver an elaborate invitation and then again reaches for him when the conversation turns hostile over their former armies. Rain slaps Tristan for insulting Tamar and leaves; Mercy responds to his friend's reproach with exhausted silence, remaining the cautious counterweight to behavior he cannot actually prevent. Several brief corpus matches use the common noun “mercy” rather than naming this character, including scenes in the Third Nightmare and Asterion's captivity. They do not establish Mercy of Dagonet's presence, powers, or later fate. His last verified direct scene is the postwar outing, where he is alive and still an Ascended companion to Tristan. Appearance and personality

Mercy is a young male Legacy whose age and armor resemble Tristan's, but the narration provides no stable hair, eye, build, or facial description. His most consistent physical behavior is reactive: stifled breaths, widened eyes, attempts to pull Tristan back, and a petrified or dejected posture after each avoidable disaster. He is cautious, loyal, socially aware, and easily exasperated. Mercy recognizes danger before Tristan, argues for de-escalation, tends to his injured friend, and remains beside him in genuine battle. His inability to stop Tristan is not the same as sharing every insult; on both social occasions he tries to prevent escalation and ends by apologizing or walking away rather than renewing the quarrel. Abilities and Aspect

Mercy is an Ascended Legacy warrior who survives the Domain War and can pull Tristan clear of a Nightmare Creature during close combat. The corpus does not name his Aspect, Aspect rank, Abilities, Flaw, weapon, armor enchantments, or combat style. Tristan

Tristan is Mercy's close friend and recurring responsibility. Mercy tries to restrain his duels and insults, carries away his weapon, seeks healing after his fall, saves him in battle, and accompanies him socially after the war. Their comic imbalance rests on real loyalty: even after Tristan ignores every warning, Mercy remains beside him when the danger is no longer self-inflicted. (Chapters 1703–1704, 2249, and 2294)

Sunny, Rain, and Tamar

Mercy does not personally antagonize Sunny but becomes collateral to Tristan's humiliation and receives Sunny's instruction to retrieve the fallen sword. Postwar, he watches a similar quarrel with Rain and Tamar and again fails to stop it. These encounters do not create a sustained relationship; they establish Mercy as a witness to how poorly inherited pride fares against Sunny's family and their allies. (Chapters 1703–1704 and 2294)

Mercy retrieves and carries Tristan's Heart Breaker greatsword after the duel, but the weapon is a family heirloom of Aegis Rose and not Mercy's possession.
